Installing PSE6

I've just posted this question in the wrong section! (did say I was new to all this )
I'm trying to install PSE6 and keep getting the message "java script alert" critical errors were found in set up. incompatible payloads already installed. see set up log for details. (can't find out where the set up log is either)
Had previously dowloaded trials of CS3 and PSE6 and chose PSE6 but when it came to loading the disk this message came up, managed to get rid of some of the files but cannot get rid of the remaining files or load the new one
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thankyou.

Look in the Utilities folder of your computer for a folder labeled *Adobe Installers*. Inside you'll find installer programs for PSE6 and PSCS3. Run both and choose uninstall. Then try running the PSE6 installer package again. If you still have no luck, head over to the Adobe web site and use their help forums there. They know lots more then most of us.

  • INSTALLING PSE6 ON NEW IMAC (PURCHASED DISK) WOULD NOT LOAD

I have a new mac computer, OS 10, and loaded the trial version of photoshop elements 6 and then purchased the program. I tried to install using the disk, and got error message, called help desk, they got it loaded after 2 + hours. Now when I click to open the program, it takes 10 to 15 minutes if it even opens.....any ideas??

Thank you for your help! In reading another site, I got a recommendation to run a cs3clean program (http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs3clean.html). That worked, although I lost my In Design program, adobe flash, adope shockwave and adobe reader. There are several warnings that this would happen.
I reinstalled all programs (including the new retail pse6), and everything seems to work now. Will not be trying any more trials.

  • Unable to install PSE6/Mac

I just got PSE6, and tried to install it, but got the error shown in Picture 1.png.  This seems very odd, both as Picture 2.png shows that I'm only using Mac OS Extended filesystem, and because filesystem type is not even listed under system requirements.  I did try repairing file permissions; that didn't have any effect.  I also tried verifying the disk, and it came back as being ok.  (Picture 4 is there to show that my machine meets the other system requirements listed.)
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Dave

After downling PSE 6 on my Mac running Leopard, there is no way to install the thing. No installer, no way to double-click the application, nothing but a bunch of files in the .dmg.
Now I discover that according to the previous post in this thread, Adobe products won't install on case-sensitive drives.
Who's in charge at Adobe? Scooter in the mail room?
    Into the trash it goes.

  • Install PSE6 on Mac, unable to update RAW

Recently installed PSE 6 on Mac and then downloaded and installed updates. All went OK but was unable to install the update for RAW - error message 'unable to locate product to be updated' Any thoughts please....?

Thanks for getting back so promptly - but I'm still a little confused. How do I know what version of RAW I currently have? Once I know that, I presumably chose the appropriate update from the list given. Does PSE6 come with RAW to be installed along with everything else - not sure how this works.

I downloaded PSE 6 but cannot install it in my MacBook Pro, running OS X 10.5.6, and it gives me this message:

so, can anybody help me please? Thanks.

  • Save Catalog and Tags etc,as I want to uninstall PSE6, then re-install

I have just used the "Backup and Restore" in Pse 6 and backedup to an external F drive. But I didn;t put it into a special folder. Will I have trouble Restoring it, when I re-install pse6 back on the computer. Will it restore the catalog etc as it was before, tagged and catagorized? I have about 10.000 photos in the catalog..    Or do you suggest I use the "Backup and Restore" function again, only this time creating a folder for it..before sending it to the external F drive.   I have plenty of room on the external drive.   I look forward to a response
                                                                                      Thanks Pattie.
If the 2nd option is the way to go, I will then have to delete the first backup from Ex F drive, how will I know what to delete. How will I recognize it, as the EX F drive is structured to backup  other files outside of PSE6.

    Thanks di,
but do you mean I can uninstall pse than reinstall pse, and all my catagorized and tagged photos will remain the same.
Also the reason I want to uninstall both pse and premier elements, and a few other things is, as recently I tried to delete a few files I thought were not needed, I think I deleted something important, because I could not get just the organizer to open.  I have since been able to open it by renaming it from thumb.5.cache to old.5.cache.  But since then a few more problems have arisen. Like when using Premier el 4 to make a movie, it's very slow. and not recognizing myDVD burner .  It has more in it's name now. Like HL-DT-ST  DVDRAM  GH20NS10  ATA Device.  I'm sure it didn't have the DVDRAM written there before.  When I go to Burn to Disk it won't recognize either the DVD drive or the Inserted DVD.    Everything has changed so I though I would remove both programs completly from computer then re-install them to see if that may help

  • Unable to install PSE 8 on iMAC G5 OS 10.4.11

I am running OS X  10.4.11 and can't get PSE 8 to  install. I've tried all weekend. I am not running Safari at any  time and not at start up.  I  load the PSE 8 DVD; open the setup.app;  the PSE8 splash screen opens an  says its loading; and another Installer  Alert (blank) window opens on top. Then the app cranks on for hours...last  time I let it run for 3 hrs and no install happened.
This is the  worst PSE install ever.  I succesfully  installed PSE6 on my MAC;  installed PSE8 on my Dell; and installed Word  2007 on the MAC w/ no  problems.  Any ideas on what I shoudl try next?
Adobe  support was not  helpful....they wanted me to try the SW on another MAC  computer.  What?  Like I have a spare MAC sitting around for sofware  testing?

  • PSE6 and a new imac

(The imac is only 3 months old and yes with Snow Leopard newly installed a few days ago also...)
I just bought and received my copy of PSE6 tonight and have had no luck installing it.  It started out slowly (the progress bar seemed to be running through mud!) and when it got to about 90% done it just stopped.  To get to this point must have taken 20 minutes.  Did everyone else have such a long time installing this program?  I haven't installed all that many programs into my new imac but of the ones that I HAVE installed...none ever took more than a few minutes.
I finally stopped the process and removed the disc from my computer.  I want to try this again tomorrow when I get home from work but sure would like to know if it's me (I'm not exactly a newbie here, really!) or if its a compatibility issue.  Any and all help would be appreciated!
Yes, I tried this installation as Admin.  Also, this was not a download but from a disc.  I tried looking for help online through normal channels but I don't seem to have any luck finding anyone else with this problem.
    Thanks in advance!
    Randy

I purchased a new IMAC 24" in early August with OS X v 10.5.  I painlessly installed OS X 10.6 (SL) with no problems.  Once SL was successfully installed, I subsequently installed PSE6.  It also installed painlessly in less than 15 minutes.  I did get an error message ("application cannot be located") when attempting to install updates from a manual update check from within PSE6.  However, a friend encounters the same error when checking for PSE6 updates when running on OS X v 10.5, thus I would not conclude this as a SL issue, but rather maybe more general Adobe issue.  Good luck.

  • Win:  photos not recognized in PSE6

I shot 60 photos in NEF. I edited them, saving each as JPEG, copy to Organizer.
They all showed up with '?' in the corner, and were treated as missing files. I deleted all, and imported them again into Organizer. No '?'s now, but PSE6 still treats them as missing files. For example, if I double-click on a photo, it appears as a single, but PSE6 goes off trying to find it! Same if I try to print a photo.
I have a similar problem with all my photos.
This has only happened since I re-installed PSE6 on a new hard drive.
    I tried re-booting. Didn't help.
    Can you help?
    TIA

Most likely your new drive has triggered a PSE 6 bug. To verify, run the utility "psedbtool":
    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/#_Downloading,_Installing,_and
If that is indeed the problem, there is a straightforward fix.

  • PSE6 as external editor for iphoto

I've trawled the forum but can't find a solution, perhaps somebody can help? I have just installed PSE6. Having set PSE6 as the default external editor in iPhoto, when I click edit in iPhoto the PSE6 app opens and I can start playing with the image no problem. However, if when in PSE6 I select File>Open and try to select an image from iPhoto the OPEN button remains grayed out.
Enable: All readable documents & Format: JPEG are selected. Clicking on an image brings up the file size beside the Format:JPEG drop menu indicating that it knows which file I am selecting but still the OPEN button remains grayed out. I also tried the Create Montage function. A new project is created and the idea is you click on an empty space within the project and it takes you to iPhoto to select an image. Again as soon as iPhoto opens the OPEN button is grayed out.
I've read on other forums people experiencing similar issues but as yet I've not read about a solution. It's very frustrating because I chose PSE6 on the basis that it works seamlessly with iPhoto. Does anybody have any ideas or can you direct me to a thread that addresses this issue? Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Installing photoshop elements 6

Hi, totally new to all this, and in need of help!!
Trying to install PSE6 and it is coming with "java Script Alert" Critical errors were found in set up. Incompatible payloads already installed. See set up log for details. (can't find set up log)
I had trials of Adobe CS3 and PSE6 on the computer to find out which was suitable, chose PSE6 and having spent 'ions' trying to load the disc!!! Managed to follow the Adobe instruction for uninstalling the trials but this message still comes up and I can't load my disc.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, simple instructions as to what to do as I'm a bit of technophobe! Thankyou.

You probably need to run cleanscript to get rid of everything:

  • A big issue between LR2 and PSE6?

    Hello;
Im experiencing a strange situation between PSE6 and LR2. What about to tell you it happens to me twice, so I was able to recreate and document the issue. Before I go on I want to warn you that the only way to fix it was uninstalling and installing PSE6. The repair process did not work.
Before I describe and specify the Test Script I want to describe my system:
Vista Home Premium SP1, PSE6 and the 30 day trial of LR2.
Processor: Dual 2.89 MHz, 4GB of RAM, 512MB ATI Graphic Card
2 Internal HD; 250 GB and 650 GB
    1 External HD 500GB.
Description: After I edited a RAW picture in PSE and saved as PSD I closed PSE6 and went to LR2 to continue editing, then after some editing in LR2 I decide to do more editing in PSE6 from LR2. I closed PSE6 and get back to LR2. I opened PSE6 from the Desktop and went to the Organizer-Edit-Preferences and BOOM; I get the message Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 (Organizer) has stopped working CLOSE THE PROGRAM.
    Test Script:
WARNING: If you decide to go on and test this I want to warn you that both times I had to uninstall and install PSE6.
    1. Edit a RAW picture in PSE6 and saved as PSD, exit PSE6.
    2. Edit the same PSD picture in LR2, do anything you want.
    3. Edit the PSD picture in PSE6 directly from LR2: Develop->Photo->Edit in PSE6.
    4. Chose the Default Option: Edit a Copy with Lightroom Adjustments
    5. When in PSE6 do anything or nothing to the picture and CLOSE exit from PSE6.
    6. Start PSE6 and from the Organizer go to EDIT->Preferences and chose General
    7. Now, if the problem its repeatable and its not only me you should get the message that the Organizer has Stopped working and you must have to close the program.
Organizer has Stopped working and you must have to close the program.
    8. Since everytime that I tried to get into the Preferences PSE6 Crash I had to unistalled and installed again, I try to do the repair but in my case did not work.
Note: I don't know if the same it's going to happen with JPG's or TIFF's, at least I don't want to test it.
If somebody has any comments or knowledge about this please let me know. For now my Trial of LR2 has come to a stop.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Antonio;
After many, many test I discovered that the problem, at least in my case it is caused by the new ACR 4.5. Please read the Thread that I post under Camera Raw. I include the link below.
I also open two Bug Reports about this, but as usual Adobe (and other Software Companies) will never take responsability for this, until one day they release a new version with "enhancements".

  • DVD  driver is deleted when PSE 6 is installed

    Windows Vista & PSE 6.
After installing PSE 6, I lose my DVD Driver. This has happened three times, each requiring a clean install of Windows. I have modified the registry as instructions on the Adobe site has suggested, and this does indeed work........for a time.
Unfortunately, after a while it seems that even the registry fix does not stop the driver vanishing. I have tried to download driver updates, but with the missing registry files, this is virtually impossible to accomplish as the system will not accept a new DVD driver.
The DVD is a TSST SH-S203N. It works fine on the system, until PSE6 is reintroduced. There is no other burning software installed on the system.
The time has now come when I am looking to install PSE6 for a fourth time, but am unwilling to have a complete overhaul of my system if it is going to corrupt it again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks :)

Are you loosing the sofware or it gets removed from device manager. Are you able to burn the DVD through the PSE application. What registry entries are you modifying? Is the problem solved when you uinstall PSE6?Also is the burning software present in progam files or it disappears from there also?

  • Help in restoring PSE6 catalog to PSE9

My PC computer hard drive crashed.  I do backup, but I had not backed up my PSE6 catalog for about 3-4 months.  I do have all my photos backed up though.  I'm going to restore the catalog to a new PC running Win 7 so I upgraded to PSE9 since I understand PSE6 doesn't work with Win7.
    Here is my plan.
    (1) copy all my photos folders to the new computer. I organize my folders by year and date.
    (2) install PSE9 and restore the PSE6 catalog to Organizer in the new computer.
    (3) import the additional photos taken after the last catalog backup into the PSE9 Organizer and tag all of them.
    (4)  if all looks right I would backup the new catalog.
Does this make sense??  I'm just concerned that I am forgetting something.
    Comments will be appreciated.
    Barbara

I am trying to do a similar conversion. I have my PSE6 backup and I recently installed PSE9 on a new computer running Windows 7. I am unable to restore. The error message says "invalid backup". The backup files are Backup.tly and catalog.buc. I do not have PSE6 anymore; all was lost with a hard disc failure. I have all my pictures backed up with the file structure intact. And I can not locate my PSE6 install files. If I could obtain those files, should I pursue installing PSE6; restoring to PSE6, then converting to PSE9?

  • Problem with PSE6  - new disk - new PC

    hello all,
after installing PSE6 new, I see all the old pics twice. What I want is to install PSE6 new but the deinstallation process didn't delete all files from PSE 6.
I will install from scratch and than import all pictures new.
    Who can help me?
    My OS is Vista

Un-installing and re-installing never solves catalog/photo issues. Re-importing is rarely ever a good solution.
You did have the catalog file from the old computer. You said "I copied a whole disk from my old PC to an external disk. I connected this external disk to my new PC. I installed PSE6 on my new PC and I got the first problem: I saw only the thumbs and PSE6 wasn't able to find the jpg's".
The only way this can happen is if you have the catalog file from the old computer.
Now, if you still have the files on this external disk (and they haven't changed), the catalog file is on there.
If you can find that file on your external disk (My Catalog.psedb is the default name, it might be something else *.psedb) then you want to use that file. Double-click on it. If it has a single image of each of your photos, but it can't find the photos, stop there, let us know, and we will inform you how to make it find the photos. Do not re-import (yet). Do not uninstall then re-install.
