Installing QuickTime from downloaded installer results in crash.

Hello all, I'm having an issue with QuickTime (obviously).
The problem started when I was at Apple.com/Trailers (LOVE that site). I was going to catch up on all the latest trailers, but Safari said it couldn't find the QuickTime plugin. So I thought I should just trash all of the QuickTime plugins I could find, because I thought maybe they had become corrupted (if that's even possible). So after trashing all of the QuickTime plugins and QuickTime player from /Applications, I went to Apple.com/QuickTime/Download and downloaded the latest version (for Leopard). The disk image gets done downloading, mounts on the desktop, and the installer starts. I click through all the obligatory "Next, Next, Agree, Next, etc." stuff and it starts to install. The only problem is, when it gets to the part where it says "running installer script", Installer.app just totally crashes. It doesn't even give me a crash report.
What gives? Any help is greatly appreciated.
PS - For system specs, just look at my signature, they're always kept up-to-date.

Nevermind, I guess...
I just retried the download and everything seems to be working A-OK.

  • Cant Install Tiger From Original Installation Media After Hard Drive Failure.

    I have this MacBook:
    http://everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook/specs/macbook-core-2-duo-2.16-black-13 -mid-2007-specs.html
Hard Drive failed (no boot, nasty clicking sound).
I installed a new hard drive. Tried to install Snow Leopard from a retail disk - it would boot from the disc and I would get partway through the installation before stalling.
After doing research, I realized I needed to install from the original installation media (tiger) and then upgrade to a newer OS.
I dont have the Original installation media, called up Apple - paid their fees, got the 4 installation discs and no pressing C while booting, or pressing the option key will get the computer to boot from that installation disc.
    I just get a folder with a ?
I know the drive works fine, because it booted normally from the Snow Leopard disc.
I know the new disc Apple sent is good, because I put it in my other computer (iMac) and saw the installer and was able to open the PDF readme.
Now im stuck - cant reinstall the OS because I cant get it to boot off the disc!
When holding down the C button during boot, I can hear the disc drive making noise - but all i get this that blinking folder with a ?

I could not boot into time machine's external drive. I used my snow leopard disk to install and and then Mavericks from app store. Then migration assistant.
I am thinking about a backup to my backup.
    thanks for the help.

  • Trying to install app from App Store results in "An error has occurred."

I am trying to update TextWrangler in the OSX App Store application. Multiple attempts to update have resulted in the same error. This appears to be also happening with other apps (Pages, in particular), but for the moment I will keep troubleshooting localized to TextWrangler.
The basic symptom is that I try to update TextWrangler and receive a dialog stating "TextWrangler failed to download / Use the Purchases page to try again.". After I acknowledge the dialog I see "An error has occurred." next to the "Install" button on the purchases page. Further attempts receive the same error.
Initial attempts to remedy this have included deleting everything in $TMPDIR/../C, everything in /Library/Updates, ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist, ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.storeagent.plist, Library/Cookies/com.apple.appstore.cookies, ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.storeagent, everything in Library/Caches/com.apple.storehelper/ as indicated in several forums offering help related to this problem. I have also tried completely removing the software (from /Applications) and installing from scratch; I get the same symptoms in this case.
As per https://discussions.apple.com/message/23951810#23951810, I have included a log file to (hopefully) help diagnose the issue. While I don't really understand much of the log output, I do find it interesting that at Apr 21 17:02:49 (when the download starts) you see many mathematically meaningless percentages displayed.
I very much appreciate in advance any help you can provide on this issue
The following log was created by:
    1. quitting all applications
    2. starting Console
    3. selecting /var/log -> appstore.log
    4. clicking "Clear Display"
    5. starting App Store
    6. clicking "Purchased"
    7. clicking "Install" next to TextWrangler
    8. waiting until the "TextWrangler failed to download / Use the Purchases page to try again." dialog appeared
    9. quitting App Store
    10. in Console, select all and copy/paste here:

  • CS3 install on new MacBook Pro results in crashes

I have been using Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium for a couple of years with no problems.  During that time I also upgraded Photoshop to CS4 and purchased After Effects CS4 as well.  Yesterday I did a clean install on a new 17" MacBook Pro laptop.  I installed the Creative Suite 3 Design Premium software then downloaded the Photoshop CS4 and After Effects CS4 upgrades and installed those.  When I tried to launch Acrobat Professional 8 it crashes after a few seconds of being opened.  I tried reinstalling it but with the same result.  Now InDesign CS3 and Illustrator CS3 do the same thing.  I have searched for an answer to this and can't find one.  I've spent several hours installing and reinstalling software with the same result.  Trying to find a link to create a support ticket with Adobe proved useless so far.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?  Is there an Adobe Updater file that can be replaced in case it is corrupt or something?  Any help is most appreciated.
    Randy

I just tested on my Intel Core Duo 2 iMac running OS X 10.6.8.
I can run Acrobat 8 Professional 8.3.0 without crashing. I can also run the InDesign CS3 and Illustrator CS3.
So there's something in your system that's causing the crashes. Sorry I don't have more suggestions.

  • Problem installing CS2 from download.

I was attempting to re-install Adobe CS1 but could not get it to re-activate.  I called Adobe support and was directed to download the CS2 suite from their site.  I downloaded it and attempted to install.  The filenames are a little different than those referenced in the installation instructions but everything went perfect until it ask me to insert CD #2.  The extraction process extracted the program files to different folders on my c: drive so there are no actual CD's.  I don't understand why the install routine cannot find or be directed to the next set of extracted files.  This has gotten very frustrating.  Can someone please help me?  I downloaded the following:
    CS2_install_Win.pdf  -- installation instructions
    CreativeSuiteCS2Disc1.exe
    CreativeSuiteCS2Disk2.exe
    CreativeSuiteCS2Disk3.exe
    CS_2.0_WWE_Extras_1.exe
    VCS2.zip
    thanks for your help,
    tom

Before I start copying files............when I extracted the files the process created the following folder structure:
    C:\Creative Suite
              |_
                  Adobe Creative Suite 2.0
                                 |_
                                    Adobe InDesign 2.0
                                    Adobe Version Cue 2.0
    C:\Creative Suite CS2
              |_
                 Adobe Creative Suite 2.0
                                |_
                                   Adobe Illustrator CS2
                                   Adobe Photoshop CS2
                                   etc
                                   etc
    C:\CS_2.0_WWE_Extras_2
Where do I need to move files from/to?
    thanks, tom

  • Error installing CS4 from downloaded .dmg file

I work for a company that receives upgrades from Adobe and most recently was given the downloadable CS4 upgrade from our IT department. When I went to open up the DesignPrem_CS4.dmg file it gives an error of "The following disk images failed to mount" reason "not recognized." Have you heard of this happening before?
We are currently running CS3 on Mac OS 10.5.6 which was installed from a CD. I've done some searching on this error, but the only thing I have found is that the file might be corrupt. We had IT download it again, but had the same issue. I've also tried to run the .dmg file through Disk Utility and tried to repair it without any success. Any thoughts on fixing this? Should we download directly to our Mac desktop? Could a file become corrupted by downloading to the Windows environment and then transferring over a network to the Mac?
    Thanks

    Hi Buko,
If it is a corrupt file, what steps can we take to insure that it doesn't happen again? Our IT department has downloaded it twice. Could it be the method or program in which they are downloading? What causes corrupt downloads?
    Thanks

  • When trying to install CCleaner from Downloads window it flashes and fails to install. Why?

The download is 2.9Mb and saves to Downloads window. When the exe. file is double clicked in the downloads window it flashes briefly but does not install despite numerous attempts at the entire download process.

Please read this article to see if it helps, it might give you some ideas:

As an alternative, try to download from this link, it should give you an option to save to your desktop:

  • Installing Quicktime 7.6.x ( leopard) iin SL

to fire out all the hidden dust in my boot disk ( some from march 2001), I decided to make a snow leopard from zero install....
I've only keep; music, pictures, movies, address book, ical, networks settings, keychain and few more things.
I know when a update leopard to snow leopard Quicktime 7 is moved to SL aplications folder.... but I'm unable to install it from his installer.
Can I do this or I must to forget to have it running in SL ????

Snow Leopard supports QuickTime Player 7 version 7.6.3 but not the later 7.6.4 version. (Note carefully the *System Requirements* at the QuickTime 7.6.4 for Mac download page.)
To install the appropriate version of QT Player 7 simply follow the instructions at Installing QuickTime Player 7 on Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard. It will be installed in /Applications/Utilities, not in /Applications.

I don”t know if this makes a difference but the file is iTunes.mpkg not the .dmg that you mentioned. Thank you for the response.
