Installing QuickTime in a Corporate Environment

I apologize if this has already been asked, but I searched and couldn't find anything related. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.
I need to deploy the latest version of QT in a corporate environment. Our users are locked down and cannot download or perform automatic updates. Since they cannot upgrade to Pro, I'd also like to remove the Pro-related menu times. I'd also like to prevent the Help-->Check for Existing Updates menu from being displayed.
I've extracted the Windows Installer (.msi) files and created a transform for some minor changes. Other than the items above, the install works and runs great. I've poked at the registry and nothing jumps out at me. I've also gone through Edit->Preferences, but there are no options that match my requirements.
Any help would be appreciated.

You may be right, but I thought it was worth a shot. Previous versions have been a little bit more friendly in this regard.
I appreciate your reply. Thanks!

Hello smellwood & Welcome to Discussions
Quicktime 6.0.3 is as far as you can go in the OS 9 environment.

  • Using Time Machine in Corporate Environment

Hi, I have a question regarding time machine in a corporate environment. Instead of purchasing a time capsule, I thought it would be straight forward to share a large drive and have our ten Mac Pro computers share that drive for a time machine. This seemed to work for my test computer.
I then went to install it on one of our Mac Pros. I was able to map the shared drive but Time Machine did not recognize it. This made me take a step back and wonder if this use is even a good way to set it up. I read online where others were sucessfully setting up time machine using shared drives. Do I need to purchase a time capsule to use time machine on these ten computers? If so, will that configuration work over a wired network.
    Thanks for any input.

No, not necessarily. You can connect one (or more) drives to one Mac. That Mac would back-up directly, of course; others on the same network can back up to the same drive(s) either via WIFI or Ethernet. See #22 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip,* also at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum. In this case, the Mac being backed-up directly should have it's own partition on the backup drive; the others could each have one, or could all share one.
You could back them all up to a Time Capsule (although with that many Macs, you'd almost certainly have to connect one or more USB drives to it for some of them to back up to). See #Q1 and Q2 in the Using TIME MACHINE with a TIME CAPSULE *User Tip,* also at the top of this forum.

  • TC and corporate environment.

We are looking to use TC in a corporate environment. We would like to house the TC units in our server room, do Mac's have to be directly connected to the TC in order to backup, or are the discoverable via Bonjour or TCP/IP? If this does not work, what solutions have you found to be useful?

A TC will work either wirelessly or via Ethernet cable, although it's recommended to connect via Ethernet for the first backup (which copies everything); it will be much faster that way.
To avoid having to buy multiple TCs, you could connect a USB drive to the TC, and back some of the Macs up to it, rather than the TC's internal HD. Keep in mind that to keep a reasonable "depth" of backups, TM usually needs 2-3 times the space of the data it's backing-up. See #1 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip,* also at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum.
You can also back up wirelessly to a shared drive on another Mac on the same local network. You could get, say, a Mac Mini and connect a drive (or drives) to it, and use it as a server to back up several Macs. See #22 in the FAQ Tip.
Or, you could get a Mac for your server room, and install +OSX Server+ on it, and all the other Macs could back up to it that way. I'm not really familiar with OSX Server; you might find more in the Server forums at: http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=96

Hello I would like to install Quicktime on business computers using SMS. I have found the command switches that are need to do the install silently but Because of our environment I can not have Quicktime going out the the internet for updates dose any one know if this can be truned off during install ? Or is there post install reg key change or ini file that would allow this. I have searched the web and there a a few things out there but none of them work. Any suggestion or advice would be helpful. Dose apple provide any support for this ?

    check Edit > Preferences
From there you should be able to uncheck for QT to look for updates...see if that helps.

  • Install wizard freezing at "Updating environment strings"

Since September of last year, when ever I try to install Quicktime, regardless of the iTunes bundle or the standalone version, it would always go well until it says "Updating environment strings". And then it would just stop. I even got out all the malware that I thought was eating up my computer.
HP Pavilion 503n   Windows XP Pro   it totally *** whe it comes to gaming (64MB Intel Video,) 40GB HDD, 17" Flat Panel Monitor, 2 CD-RW,

so after months of reading forums and pulling my hair out..here's what I did to get to work: ( windows XP pro )
    after a fresh reboot:
    1. Open a windows explorer window.
    2. right click on C:\ ( or your main windows drive )
    3. ->properties->security
    4. this will display all users and their permissions to this folder. click on add, enter your user name, and give yourself full access....this will take a while, it recursively sets the permissions of every file and folder on this drive for you to have full access ( I know, it sounds dangerous, and it probably is..but I got really f'ing frustrated..and had to go to extreme measures ).
    5. right click on the QuickTimeInstaller.exe file->run as: click off of the check box that says "Protect My Computer From Unauthorized .....etc..." - click on OK..
    6. I chose a folder other than the default ( I think ...\QuickTime3 )
and I just about soiled myself when it actually worked...I hope it does for you !!!

  • HT5016 how to install QuickTime 7.7.1 at window xp computer?

how to install QuickTime 7.7.1 at window xp computer?

    Sources I have is:
    - jdk-6u21-windows-x64.exe
    - ogs-3.1.2.2-windows.exe.
    - I created folder in c: call "java".
    - setup jdk-6u21-windows-x64.exe in (C:\java).
    - You may need to set JAVA_HOME in Environment variables with new java home (e.g C:\Java\jdk1.6.0_21) and you can add this in the Path variables:
    C:\Java\jdk1.6.0_21;C:\Java\jdk1.6.0_21/bin;C:\Java\jdk1.6.0_21\jre;C:\Java\jdk1.6.0_21\jre\bin
    - Double click on ogs-3.1.2.2-windows.exe and start setup glassfish server (I choosed Custom Installation --> Install and Configure).
    - After installation you may need to set java path in C:\glassfish3\glassfish\config\asenv.bat
by adding this line set AS_JAVA=C:\java\jdk1.6.0_21
and add in C:\glassfish3\glassfish\config\asenv.conf  this line:
    AS_JAVA="C:\java\jdk1.6.0_21"

  • How do I get Streamclip AVI files that were saved without first installing Quicktime ALternative 1.81 to play in Premiere Elements 11?

I had Hi-8 "home movie" tapes transferred to mp4 files. To pull many short clips from these long files, I used MPEG Streamclip 1.2. The default save for these short clips was mp4. Either they didn't work in Adobe Premiere Elements 11 or I thought they wouldn't -- I can't recall now -- so I saved each clip as AVI. These AVI files won't play at all in Premier Elements. I Googled for advice and found that I needed to convert to Quicktime Alternate 1.81. I fear this had to be done before I saved the clips, but I didn't realize that. Still, I just now uninstalled Quicktime 7 and installed Quicktime 1.81, then tried converting the AVI clips files, first back to MP4 (didn't work at all in PE11) and then to MOV (only played audio). The AVI files play fine in Windows Media Player and VLC.  All I have are the original files saved as AVI in Streamclip. Is there any way to get these to play and be editable in Premiere Elements 11? I've attached a jpeg capture of a gspot readout for one of these files. THANKS!

Glad that you finally sorted out what you were doing and discovered DV AVI.
In your particular situation Prism would serve your purposes of generating the DV AVI 4:3 since your footage is 640 x 480. However, for others with different footage, the free Prism shortcoming is that it cannot offer DV AVI widescreen 16:9; whereas MPEG Streamclip can do the job for 16:9 as well as 4:3.
QuickTime Alternative 1.8.1 that does come with the MPEG Streamclip's required MPEG2 Playback Component (free) also meets the Premiere Elements requirement for QuickTime installed on computer with Premiere Elements to work. This works in spite of the fact that QuickTime Alternative 1.8.1 is not the latest version of the regular QuickTIme.
In post 2 of the following older thread, I detail the use of Prism (for 4:3) and MPEG Streamclip (for 4:3 and 16:9) to produce the DV AVI file.
Finished video of project looks "weird" / slightly choppy? - Elements Village
Any questions or need clarification, please do not hesitate to ask.
Moving forward, do not use AVCHD (MPEG4 AVC/H.264) or H.264.avi in Premiere Elements. It is not supported.

  • Error message when trying to install Quicktime 7.2

When I try to install Quicktime 7.2 on my MacBook Pro, I get a message saying that there was an error and I need to try again. When I have tried via Software Update, it says it has moved the download to the trash. I am running OS 10.4.10. If it is an additional clue, I also tried downloading and installing Onyx and ran into a similar problem.
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You are trying to update to OS X 10.8.2 using the conventional update package for other Macs.
You have a Mid 2012 MacBook Pro, and it needs a special 10.8.2 version. To install it, open  > Software Update and install all the available updates

I recieve the following error message when trying to install Quicktime for Windows "Error writing to file C:/Program Files/QuickTime/QTSystems/QuickTimeCheck.ocx. Verify that you have access to that directory."  I just trying to get the latest version of iTunes.  Thanks

"Error writing to file C:/Program Files/QuickTime/QTSystems/QuickTimeCheck.ocx. Verify that you have access to that directory."
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • ITunes is telling me to install Quicktime to play my movies, but the download is for Windows 7 and I have 8.  What's the solution?

iTunes says I need to install Quicktime.  When I clicked on MORE INFO, the Quicktime download is for Windows 7/Vista.  I have Windows 8.  I can play all movies except Dirty Dancing, altho I can play the extras...  Do I need to install Quicktime?

Either you don't have a SIM in the phone, which is required for activation, or you have a phone that was probably hacked to unlock it.
    A) Do you have a SIM in the phone?
    B) Where EXACTLY did you get the phone?

  • What license do I need to install QuickTime on educational machines?

I work as a technician and webmaster for Martin Luther College and we are looking into installing QuickTime onto our institutional machines. I am wondering what permission/licenses we need to have in order to do that along with what restrictions thre are for us. We are looking only at QuickTime playback functions for Windows XP, Vista, and 7 along with Mac OS X.
    Thank you for your help!

If you need only the free QuickTime Player, you probably will be fine just downloading installing it on your systems and I doubt Apple would give you any trouble. To be strictly correct, though, your college would need to fill out and submit this licensing agreement:
    https://developer.apple.com/softwarelicensing/agreements/pdf/qt7sitelicense.pdf
There is no cost involved; it's strictly a formality. Mac OS X comes with QuickTime, so no additional licensing is necessary unless perhaps you want to install QuickTime Player 7 on systems with 10.6. and 10.7, in which case the above license should cover it.
    Regards.

  • Running Windows 7 [64 bit]-Do I need to install Quicktime?

    Hello all,
This is my first Post. I'm a Premier Elements 9 Newbee
and want to know if Apple Quicktime is needed with Windows 7?
If so, do I download the 64 Bit version?
My Premier Elements 9 software is working fine without it.
I'm using a Canon Vixia M-30 with memory cards.
So far, no issues with the exception of a few video files showing only green thumbnails in the organizer?
I will be back with countless questions on how to do this and how to do that but i'm learning slowly.
    Thanks Bluesburst

Hi Bill & thanks for the information.
    I installed Quicktime 7 yesterday.
When I open the Quicktime player I am prompted to:
"Some of the file types associated with Quicktime applications
are currently associated with with other applications.
Should I restore these file type associations to Quicktime"?
Do I need to do this or should I proceed without doing so?
Will connecting these files to Quicktime alter the way I view / edit or import video in P.E.9?
I don't want to make changes to Elements default settings until I have more experience with the program.
Will I be viewing my video's with Pe9 or Quicktime if I chose to "restore the file types to Quicktime?
    Thanks again for your help.
