Installing Quicktime& iTunes problems.

I gave my son an ipod nano 2nd gen. for Christmas, and can't get QT & iTunes install. I get the following message:
HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\classes\Quicktimeplayerlib.Quicktimerplayerapp\CLSID.
Help!
iPod nano 2nd Gen.   Windows XP

It's unlikely taking permissions of the registry key will solve install problems for QT when the initial post referred to a msi file.
This is a rare(ish) variation on a problem involving error messages mentioning missing .msi files that mostly affects 64-bit systems. Although the initial symptom for most people is the missing .msi message, if they use CleanUp, the underlying problem with the registry keys relating to the the Side-by-Side configuration of installed componentry for QuickTime (or Apple Application Support) will come to light.
That's what happened to poor Felix here. (Note in his first post that he's said he's already tried using CleanUp to address the .msi message ... so now the registry key issue has come to light.)
If permissions are just not set properly for the keys, regedit can get us through. But if there's underlying trouble with the ACLs (for example, some people get blank permissions on keys, which are impossible to manipulate via regedit) or other exotica going on, things get messy.

  • Having a problem installing Quicktime/itunes software can't control where it's going to download

so i'm trying to load quicktime/itunes software on my Win7 laptop. had it on the same laptop but with vista. i can not control where the software is being downloaded too. Trying to send to my external drive labeled originally F: somehow it got changed to I:. The package doesn't recognize the label F: and says there's not enough space. I have 410gbs free! The package doesn't give me the option to change where i want to send it. Can't DL bonjour for the same reason. Safari 5 wasn't a problem. So what's the verdict, y'all? I can't update my itouch, which i'm sure sorely needs it.
    Thanks in advance

ok so after days of trying I finally got it to work...
    here's what I did.
    1. Uninstall old versions of iTunes. Reboot.
    2. Uninstall old versions of Quicktime. Reboot.
    3. go in and remove any left over traces of QT or iTunes from hard drive
    4. Remove temp files related to itunes or quicktime. Reboot.
    5. Uninstall audio driver for audigy 2 (WDM)
    6. Install new version of iTunes
    7. reinstall drivers for audio
    8. reboot
    9. check audio drivers (for some reasons even though I reinstalled it didn't come back as the right one after the restart and was listed as disabled) update the driver.
    10. Reboot again
    11. now things should work again.
2 quick notes... Make sure to save a backup copy of your itunes library.itl and your itunes music library.xml so you can system restore back and have the old version work, just in case.
now I Can't be sure... but I assume something like step 9 was happening and not showing up that way in my drivers... although that doesn't explain why uninstalling and fresh installing after installation didn't fix it earlier. but it works now and I'm thrilled.

  • Many problems installing Quicktime+iTunes

(Keep in mind I have windows 7 64 bit)
I need the firmware update for my iPhone 3g, which normally I avoid because I always seem to have a problem with quicktime installing properly. But since a couple up my apps needed to work, I gave in.
When I tried to run the update through iTunes, it installs everything correctly. When I went back into iTunes, I got an error saying iTunes needs Quicktime to run properly. So I uninstalled both iTunes and Quicktime. I ran the Apple Update utility and it did the same thing. So I went to the web site and installed them separately. Again, iTunes 1, Quicktime 0. Now I get an error that I don't have the right file path for the .msi file.
I looked on the forum for this solution and found that I needed the Windows Installer Utility (to remove installer files that failed?) Removed Quicktime.
Attempted to reinstall again, since I can't get in iTunes, which I really need.
Now, a different set of problems occur. Now all of my icons that are shortcuts are Quicktime icons, and I cannot get into them without finding the original file in my directory. At this point Quicktime is not even on my computer any longer. When I try to install it, I get an error saying "Could not open key Unknown\components\(A bunch of numbers) Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel." I am on the only account on this PC, but to be fair, I did right click the install file and choose "run as administrator."

  • Installing Quicktime 7 problems.. HELP PLEASE!!!

"The install script engine is missing from this machine. If available, run isscript.msi or contact your support personnel for futher assistance."
I have Windows XP Home edition with service pack 3. A Dell Diminsion DIM4600 Intel, Pentium, 4 CPU 2.80GHz, 2.79 GHx, 256 MF of RAM
I need Quicktime to view videos in my Kodak Easyshare software. I have tried to install in at least 12 times, but still come up with the same error.
I have downloaded and succesfully installed Installshield isscript. At least that's the message I get. "The InstallShield Wizard has successfully installed ISScript", But yet when I search for the isscript.msi file, my system cannot locate it.
I have cleared my temp file, several times, and tried to remove quicktime from my computer by the add/remove in My Computer. But there is still a file when I look in My Computer. I have gone on the apple support website and followed the MSCONFIG troubleshoot conflicts in Widows XP. NOTHING is working. KODAK.com, Apple.com online and Installshield was no help. I'm hoping someone from this discussion can help. I need to get these video's. My dance team has been waiting for two months to review their performances. AGGGHHHH!!!

"The install script engine is missing from this machine. If available, run isscript.msi or contact your support personnel for futher assistance."
The installshield engine is only reqiuired for uninstalling older (QuickTime 7.1.0 or earlier) versions of QuickTime. It's not required for the install of the new version. So if we can get the existing QyuickTime uninstalled by other means than the Add/Remove Programs control panel, the install of the new version should go through okay.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from Microsoft:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another QuickTime install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Quicktime alternative screwed up apple quicktime & itunes

i installed quicktime alternative to try it out. big mistake!
no quicktime files would play. period. within firefox or ie or even from the harddrive. (actually, i could right click a file and open with vlc, but that's a pain to do every time)
i uninstalled qt alternative and now my quicktime/itunes problem starts!
i still couldn't play qt video and now itunes doesn't start up either. says it needs quicktime blah blah. i never uninstalled apple quicktime
so logically i figure qt alternative uninstalled a normal quicktime component
i reinstalled the quicktime/itunes package. itunes installs fine then on to quicktime where the installation stops shortly after clicking Agree to the EULA
where i get an ERROR and Installation could not be completed.
also tried uninstalling Apple quicktime but when I click on Uninstall I get the hour glass pointer for a few seconds then nothing happens.
also tried installing from the quicktime stand alone installer
Did a search and found someone with a similar problem but no remedy.
    No qt=no itunes=NO IPOD!
    Please Help!
    Windows 2000

okay, I tried quite a few things and finally got quicktime and itunes working again. In case any one else encounters this problem here is what I did, at least the steps that fixed it.
    1 re-install quicktime alternative.
    2 re-install quicktime 7 from the qt7 standalone installer.
During the process I encountered several error messages saying install failed or fatal error. (Something about ActiveX Control missing and a failed dll.) DON'T click cancel, click OK through each error and the installer will resume after a brief pause. Quicktime installed successfully, iTunes also now starts up so I'm happy.
I'm leaving qt alternative on the harddrive for now though I'd like to remove it I'm worried the uninstall will corrupt quicktime again. But if anyone has a surefire way of removing it without disrupting apple's qt I'd like to know.

  • CS6 corrupt after installing quicktime

Exports in CS6 premiere, AE and mediaencoder fails horribly. When I open projects in premiere, ALL sound is panned to the left and exports from ME give me videos with audio 'left' only.
After 3 weeks of headaches I found the 'solution'. I did full re-installs of system and CS6, keeping track of what program could cause the problem.
It seems that when I install Quicktime the problem comes up. Now I didnt install it and everything works OK. Only thing is that I get notified that I need to install quicktime. I also NEED quicktime sometimes for projects.
    Any suggestions?
    my system:
    i7, 24Gb RAM, win7 pro

Last night I had the same problem. Tried to upgrade and got the version with Itunes to see what it was. After reboot, Both physical drives and a vertual drive now have the yellow mark. This program should not have touched device drivers. Uninstalled both quicktime and Itunes and rebooted. Same thing. Reinstalled Quicktime. Same thing. Ran reg mechanic. it said 2 dlls where missing:
    PxSFS.DLL
    pxwma.dll
These don't seem to be device drivers, so should not have had an effect, but I replaced them which made reg mechanic happy. Problem is still there.
In Event viewer for application I now have this error at each reboot:
The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( IDriverT ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: Service started.
For System Event I have this at each reboot because the cdroms are disabled:
The Cdralw2k service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.
Looking through this thread it looks like just other users replying. Where is Apple? they created this mess.

Open your QuickTime control panel (either via the Control panels, or by going "Edit > Preferences > QuickTime Preferences" in the Quicktime Player). In the Advanced tab, uncheck Enable Direct3D video acceleration:

  • Itunes 7 fails to install - QuickTime problem.

I successfully used an earlier Itunes with an Ipod 1GB Nano. My new 2GB Nano (courtesy of Netgear promotion!) demanded V7 which I downloaded and tried to install. There were many errors installing Quicktime, but one was
    "Could not open key HKEYLOCALMACHINES\software\classes\QuickTimePlayerLib.QuicktimePlayerApp\CLSID"
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel"
I accessed myself (8-)# I tried running regedit, but that key and all the other "QuickTime" "software/classes/" keys gave the same error. I tried right clicking to set permissions, but although the list comes up, I cannot enable any of them.
I even tried safe mode, but all those entries are give similar errors. I have now deleted all references to "QuickTime" in the registry except the inaccessible ones, and the "Program Files" directory, but installation gives the same errors.
The result is that Itunes will not install, and I am unable to use my new Ipod.
A Google search finds no-one with similar problems.
    Any ideas?

I am answering this blind as I did not realise I would not have access to the previous posting! Thanks for responding.
There is no version number of the installer under properties, but it says "V7" when run, and was downloaded earlier today (38,808,256 bytes) from the Apple site (as linked to by my then presumably working Itunes).
I see exactly my problem is in http://forums.vnunet.com/thread.jspa?threadID=93546&tstart=0
    and unresolved.
I rolled back Windows to yesterday (and then the day before), and now find I cannot even uninstall either Quicktime or Itunes. The "Add or Remove programs" utility starts its progress bar and then quits with no report. I tried a re-install of the only previous installation of Itunes and it reported "You have a later version of Itunes installed" (meaning presumably V7) The Itunes I have on disk will not run "Files missing". This I suppose must be due to the failed installation of V7, which System Restore has failed to undo.
I tried then the V7 install again, and got:
"QuickTime failed to install Error #-2903"
    and later
    "Error 1905 c:\Program Files\Quicktime\QTOControl.dll
    Hresult -2147220472"
... and then followed by three or four registry errors in HKEYLOCALMACHINES\SOFTWARE\Classes\ including the one I started this thread with. All these registry items are inaccesible under regedit ("Error opening key").
I am now in a position that I cannot go back or forward and still cannot link my IPOD to Itunes.
Is Itunes the only program that can transfer music?
It seems that one cannot simply copy, as firstly there is no "music" folder, and when it is done in a kosher way, the filenames are changed to an internal format, with the real names in a database.
It looks like Apple are managing to stop loads of other people using their new IPODs. I would ask for my money back if it wasn't a gift from Netgear (8-)#

  • Problems Quicktime + itunes install error message

I've tried many times to install quicktime and itunes on my computer. Most of the time it does all the operations and right before the end of installation it displays a message of some sort saying problems with error -3 or somthing along those lines. What does this mean?
I tried downloading all the types of quicktime i could, as well as deleting and reinstalling. However i don't know much about solving these type of problems on computers.
After every installation I end up having itunes but I dont have the quicktime player? How do i fix this?
    Windows XP
      Windows XP

    hi mrhappyfeet!
I have Windows XP64 installed with all of the latest Windows updates and everytime Quicktime is about to finish I get that error message.
i'm afraid that actually encapsulates the nature of your problem. there is a conflict between QuickTime and Windows Update KB908531 on x64 versions of Windows (and also some 32-bit versions of Server 2003).
for some information on troubleshooting the beast, see:
b noir: Re: Windows XP 64, trouble after install of itunes update
if you decide to go the "uninstall KB908531" route with this one, strongly consider blocking the resultant Windows Explorer vulnerability by using one of the three (at last count) workarounds discussed in the "vulnerability details" section of the following security bulletin:

  • Quicktime & iTunes Install Problems

    hi,
I've been having a few problems with my computer recently, i installed SP2 for XP.. but had to revert back to SP1 because SP2 just caused my computer to not work. however, since i got it back, back running on SP1.. i can't install iTunes from the net or from the CD i got along with my ipod.
It does appear to install, however during the installation i notice that it doesnt install Quicktime, despite saying that is is finished. So when i try to open iTunes, a box saying there has been an error comes up asking me to either report it or debug. no matter which i do, it doesnt make a differnce.
I have just managed to install the Quicktime standalone player for the first time without problems.
What should I do about iTunes?

    hi fuel injectedx!

does Quicktime open properly when you try to launch it? or do you get an error message?
what error message do you get when you try to open itunes?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) (not for XP) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.
