Installing Reader 10.1.1 never ends

Saw that my 9.x.x reader was out of date so went to adobe site to pull newest reader.
Executed reader install [not upgrade] via the downloaded & saved install file.
Install detected earlier edition of reader, and properly removed it.
Install continued then to install latest reader. During the process, at approximately 70% complete, it was working on a help txt file but never made it past that point. Computer kept functioning properly for all other apps. After waiting 24hrs to be sure, I was forced to kill the adobe installer's process.
Have not tried again to install, wanting to get feedback on whether this problem has been seen before.
OS is fully patched Windows XP. Silverlight is NOT installed.
Please indicate whether this is a known issue, possible remedies and other suggestions.
Thanks!

You may want to try the following:
Run this fix from Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Uninstall Reader using Add/Remove Programs
If you want to reinstall Reader, download it from http://get.adobe.com/reader/direct/

iOS 7 allows you to have your apps update automatically. Therefore, the list of what has been updated stays so that you can see what was updated, when and what the release notes say. It has been suggested that they list has a limit, much like Recents. Currently, there is no way for the user to delete the entries manually. Just try not to look at them.

    Try resetting the printing system.
    1. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax
    2. Move your mouse over the Printers list
    3. Hold down the Control button and click the mouse
    4. Click the "Reset printing system ..." popup
    5. Restart your Mac
This will remove your print queues but not your printer drivers. So you will only need to add your printer queues again.

    Running Acrobat X Pro.
Occasionally, a website with a PDF triggers Reader to be installed on my system.
NEVER want reader (that's why i bought Pro).
How do i keep Reader from EVER being installed?

I don't get a pop-up. Something triggers the Reader installer to be loaded on my system. This occurs without my knowledge. Then, the next time i go to open a PDF, instead of it opening immediately with Acrobat Pro, I get the first screen of the installation stuff for Reader (Accept/Decline Terms of use, etc.). At this point, i get out of the install, go into control panel and uninstall Reader (which is listed as a loaded program, even though i haven't finished the install). After i uninstall reader and open a PDF, it opens correctly with Acrobat Pro. This happens once or twice a month at least. Is it possible that the Adobe Acrobat Update Service task loads Reader on my system at some interval? How do i block Reader form EVER being installed or loaded?

  • Suddenly never ending pinwheel and slower than usual

My macbook pro suddenly started to get slow and gave me a never ending pinwheel while only having Safari running. The mouse was working but no response when clicking. Only way to restart computer was by holding down the Start button. Restarted and this time the computer hang up when I tried to Log in (while writing Login and password). I mangaged to Log in two more times but I got the pinwheel again when browsing internet. Finally I managed to make it to Support/Community.. any idea what's wrong?
    Thanks in advance (: !

Print out these instructions and info at the links provided as most require you to be offline.
Do a SMC and PRAM reset first, then a Hardware Test
    https://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/26871.html
    https://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509
If the hardware test gives any errors, note them here.
Check the time and date on your computer to make sure it's correct.
If your still having slowdowns, pull the power plug on both the router and the modem, connect the modem and wait a bit then connect the router. Reboot your computer and it should connect automatically to your wifi. See if your slowdowns only occur if connecteted to the WiFI or not, that way it can be determined if it's a internet issue or not.
(If your still having slowdowns, it might be because you have a Open Network on your router and someone is leaching off of it. WPA 2 with AES is the only secure wifi standard))
You can test your internet connection speed here, see if it matches what your paying for.
    http://www.speedtest.net/
IF your computer still has issues then:
Fish out the 10.6.x disks that came with your computer (grey) or the 10.6.3 Snow Leopard retail disk, stick it in the computer and reboot holding the c key.
(Make sure the disks are clean on the bottom, wipe with a very soft cloth and a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol to clean and don't place the disk on a harsh surface that can damage the bottom.)
Second screen in, under the Utilities menu is Disk Utility, select your drive on the left and click First Aid, Repair Disk (please write down any errors this gives and tell us) and Repair Permissions (the results there you can ignore)
Do not erase or reformat the drive.
Reboot and see if your computer works, if not repeat the c boot off the installer disk again and this time skip Disk Utility and install OS X.
It will install on top of your 10.6.8 installed version (only, not your programs or files), which when finished you reboot and immediately Software Update to 10.6.8
This should take care of anything wrong with OS X itself.
Now to clean the caches of the user and other checks.
Download the free OnyX for 10.6 and run ALL the maintenance and cleaning aspects and reboot at the end of the tasks (you can cancel in between reboots) but reboot at the end of using Onyx)
Do all the checks it asks when it starts up and note any errors here they report.
Also under the Verify Tab is a Preference (plist) check, check the "show only corrupt files" and run that, make a note of all and any corrupt plist files.
    http://www.titanium.free.fr/
Plist files are preference settings files that sometimes get corrupted and may be the cause of your problems.
If you have some, then you can look in your Users/Library/Preferences folder for them and Trash them and reboot the machine and load the program responsible, the plist file gets rebuilt without your preferences which you reset.
The next thing to check would be your web browser plug-ins here
    https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/
For Flash in Safari check here again as it's more accurate
    http://flashbuilder.eu/flash-player-version.html
Download Flash and install if it's not this version (latest)
    http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
    Silverlight here
    https://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/get-started/install/default.aspx
Finally install and run ClamXAv on your drive, this will look for known malware that might have gotten accidentally installed.
    http://www.clamxav.com/
Since OS X was reinstalled, along with bundled programs like Safari, this should only leave applications and users as a source of any infection.
If your stil having issues, then create a new user and transfer your files over and when up on the new user, delete it.

A never-ending UT acquisition is not the same as the problem described by CSCtd49439.  That would also not account for an inflated number of end hosts.  Without knowing the exact details of the end hosts, I do know we had an old bug in Campus 4.x where UT would generate perpetual duplicates.  This was fixed in 4.0.11, but one would need to reinitialize the ANI database to remove the duplicates.  If this is an upgrade from LMS 2.6, then perhaps you still have old, stale data.  Running this command would fix that:
    NMSROOT/bin/perl NMSROOT/campus/bin/reintdb.pl -ut
As for the never-ending UT, check to see if the UTMajorAcquisition process is still running.  If so, contact TAC, and they can walk you through the process to get a thread dump from this process.  That will help identify what the process is doing and whether or not this is some kind of deadlock, or a configuration issue.

  • Never-Ending transcoding/importing? Here's the fix.

    Symptom:
Transcoding keeps getting to 99% or so, and reverting back to 75% and continuing Ad Infinitum in a seeming never-ending loop.
    Problem:
    The registry is corrupted.
    Solution:
    1. Close all programs.
    2. Run Regedit.
    3. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Adobe -> Common.
    4. Delete "Media Cache".
    5. Restart computer.
Another possible culprit has proved to be an application called "FindSounds Palette" and it should be uninstalled completely using the following method:
Uninstall "Find Sounds Palette" (FS Palette).
Delete the two registry key folders for "Comparisonics".
    Uninstall Encore CS3.
    Delete Registry Keys for Encore.
    Restart.
    Re-Install Encore CS3.
    Re-Install Encore 3.0.1 update.
    Restart.

Never should have been a question - sorry.

That would be the best thing to first do and then use the recovery media of which you will now have to order since the O/S seems corrupted beyond repairs. This way you can be sure the recovery media will restore it back to factory install and hopefully they will not do this again til they will consult first before upgrading the O/S.

  • FCPX never ending transcoding after Mavericks?

    Hello folks,
Saw some of the other threads about problems with FCPX and Mavericks.  Fortunately, everything has been fine for me... up to this point.  I didn't see this discussed yet so I figured I'd post my issue in it's own thread.
I've been trying to import some files (AVCHD) as usual for ongoing projects.  I copy the files and transcode them to optimized media.  Never had a problem before.  It seems to copy all the files fine, but seemingly never stops transcoding.  I've been trying to import two different projects... about 4-5 hours of footage each... and it's been two days now and the transcoding never ends!  Typically one such project takes about real time to import and transcode (4-5 hours, if not faster, never really timed it).  I'd begin an export in the morning and come back after lunch and it would always be done.
That is no longer the case it seems.
Has anyone else experience the same issue?  I just installed any and all updates available (nothing for FCPX however), restarted my computer and FCPX, and am trying again.  Hopefully the footage ingests fine this time.  But for the sake of losing more time and getting more frustrated, I'm hoping someone out there has a solution to this in the event the same problem persists for me.
    Any feedback would be appreciated.
    Matt

    Hi Russ,
Thanks for taking the time to respond.  You've been extremely helpful in the past!   As an update... I started the import around 7pm last night (EST).  This morning, at 5am, it was still importing and transcoding... but it looked like it was at least working.  After restarting last night, I tried to import and transcode a single short clip before doing the full import and that was easily successful.
When I get to the import prompt, I only check off "Copy files to Final Cut Events folder" and "Create optimized media".   This workflow has been great for me.  I turn off background rendering and don't even render 2 hour long projects with heavily edited footage before exporting to m4v master files (which turn out just fine without the rendering).  That's beside the point though.
Back on track, when I open the Background Tasks, of course the transcoding is going.  The Importing Media is stuck on 99%.  Not sure if that's normal or not... never really paid attention to that in the past.   The Rendering says it's creating audio waveforms.  Again, not sure if that's normal or not.
In Activity Monitor, I might have found a problem.  It seems FCPX is only using around 0.5% of CPU during the import.  No other program is running really except for Activity Monitor, which would leapfrog FCPX in how much of the CPU it's using at time.  At the bottom, it says my computer is around 98-99% idle!  That all raises an eyebrow to say the least.  I'm not a computer whiz when it comes to the technical aspect of how my system might be performing and I have admittedly not tried an import on another machine yet (I have three iMac's).  So it may just be an issue with this one machine.
It's a 2011 model year running a 2.93 quad, i7.  At least I'm pretty sure of that.  I'm on a corporate event now typing away from another one of my iMac's and won't even know if the import and transcoding back at home is successful until I get back in tonight around 6:30 or so.
Even if it is, there's definitely something going on with how long it's taking.  What's typically a 4-5 hour process (est) was still ingesting 10 hours later.

  • SOLUTION for the never ending reboot loop when charging

I used my iPad until the battery was completely flat, then when I went to charge it, it got stuck in the never ending reboot loop where it shows the Apple logo for about 30 seconds, then shows the home screen for a split second before shutting down and repeating the whole process again and again.
So here's what you need to do to fix this problem without having to restore or plug into iTunes.
    1. Plug in the charger
    2. When the Apple logo appears, unplug the charger
    3. As soon as you see the home screen appear, plug the charger back in. You need to do this quickly as the home screen only shows for a split second
    4. The loading wheel should appear and shut down the iPad
    5. Leave the iPad for a good 30mins or so just to get some battery life into before you start using it again.
    And that's it!

Figured I'd start recording the errors I get in the Installer Log:

  • Apple Hadrware Test never ends after ram upgrade

    Hello,
I have a macbook pro 15" mid 2012 (not the retina) with osx 10.9.4.
    I recently upgrade my 4go of ram to 8go of ram (Corsair Vengeance SODIMM 2x4go PC12800 1600Mhz CL9 1.5V CMSX8GX3M2A1600C9).
In order to test the ram I use the Appel Hardware Test.
Both mode, simple and extended, seems to be frozen and never ends.
I try to let the test works the all night and the all day but the test never ends.
So I decided to test my ram with memtest86 boot cd and everything seems to be ok.
The fact that Apple Hardware Test never ends trouble me.
Do you think there is a problem with my ram ?
Do I need to return my ram ?
    Thanks

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
We could discuss how you'd benefit from the additional memory, however, since the system isn't working, let's focus on the beeps.
When you start the system, it goes through some tests (called the power on self test or POST) before loading the operating system. If it finds any errors, it beeps, and the beeps are:
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
3 beeps means it doesn't find any memory that passes the POST test. The fact that this started up after the service center installed the memory upgrade is suspicious, however, if it worked in the store then stopped working later, it may just be unfortunate timing.
There are some company's on the internet that claim they can repair the logic boards, otherwise, Apple's solution is to replace them. In the US, some Apple stores offer a 'fix everything' service for $350, which is less than specifically replacing the logic board - perhaps there is a similar service in Taiwan.

  • Os x never ending startup

I let me teen use the old G3 ibook and in 2 days its problems arose.
I read the posts on starting problems and tried the command s boot and the command apple d p boot and it still takes me to a never ending starting os x window. Wont boot using the command C, same thing every time.
Should I get a gun ( for the machine of course) or swap out the HD and start out fresh ?
I do remember the machine slowing down lately after one of the auto updates for tiger but cant remember which update, so many come through automatically

I think so. Or you have also run out of HD space altogether. 10.4 is a consumer of HD space and currently has an error and is not freeing up space it didn't really use. I had not even paid attention to to a lot of little nuisances on my G4 at first. I was passing all off as the age of the machine. Almost oblivious to the fact that my PB G3 would run 24/7 doing slideshows and iTunes visualizer nonstop. While working as a print server and an over-all slave providing access to older printers and zip drives, devices and some other home audio/video equipment. The only reason that it is down at the moment is the hinges finally gave up.
If it were my machine I would buy a new HD (assuming you still have the 20GB OE) and an external case for the 2.5" you just removed. I like the Manhattan HD-227-711. It's the best HD case I have ever purchased that expected the least out of as at the time of purchase my purchase decision was based upon "nope only one we got". So either way, even if you maintain the existing internal HD. (adjust the sizes from below and only use 2 partitions 2 OS's 9 and 10.2 or 3 no 10.4) below assumes a 60 GB HD but the bigger the better with OS 10 though.
Insert and start up by install disks that came w/ comp. holding down the "C" key. Open disk utility. from the menu.
Partition the HD into 4 Partitions. HFS+. IMO journaling an internal HD is a moot point on a laptop. I don't journal internal.
Volume 1. 5GB OS 9 with apps (or enough for your apps and some HD space)
Volume 2. 20 GB 10.3.9 with apps. Set this as your start up disk.
Volume 3. 15 GB 10.4 minimum install no apps. other than basic Safari, Preview etc. The only reason I would install 10.4 on this machine is for xGrid.
Volume 4. 20GB+ Documents folder. Default all OS's/Apps to save here.
Give the external to your daughter as her own personal portable storage. If you do swap out you will not lose your data and can recover it by connecting externally. Do not connect a bus powered HD to a system running 10.4.
Now you have a machine that will cover a wide area of apps and devices. I use a few graphics apps the weren't too cheap I only use them about 10-20 times a year, they never warranted an upgrade to 10 and work perfectly for what I need. The G3 is the only machine I still use w/ SCSI port. Own any older QT pro keys? Virtual PC? This is a great way to maintain compatibility w/ older file formats. Now you should be able to open run anything that comes your way without having to buy anything "new" to support "legacy" (older) products.

I have this issue also, with images from my D70 (~6 megapixels) ... no solution, except that when it happens, quitting and re-launching Aperture seems to clear it up for a while, at least until it happens again.
Given that you have almost twice the RAM and four times the CPU cores that I have, I suspect this is a software issue, and not one of insufficient hardware resources.  :-)
