Installing Rosetta with 10.9 Mavericks

I have an older Datacolor ColorVision Spyder2Pro monitor calibration unit, v1, and would like to use it with iOS 10.9.5 Mavericks. The Datacolor web site says it's incompatible with iOS 10.7 (and above?) due to the lack of Rosetta. Anyone know how to get around this without buying a new calibration unit? Possible to install Rosetta with 10.9? Ideas?

These instructions are substantially the same for Parallels 10, only Parallels Tools installs a bit differently.

  • Installing a ssd into a mid 2010 15 inch MBP with a clean Mavericks install

I have the above mentioned computer, and it is beginning to show signs of hard drive issues.  I have tried to repair it with disk utilities, but it won't and says I need to reformat.  The current hard drive is a seagate hybrid with a little ssd and a 750 gb 7200 rpm drive (the original drive was cloned over, so this hard drive's software has been in use through updates and new OS's for a little over three years now).  I am running Mavericks now with no problems, but I wanted to do this before a catastrophic oops.  To be honest, the hard drive probably isn't bad, just had some os read/write errors over the years that have built up (probably because this was my first mac and I did not know how to use it at first).
How do I go about upgrading to the ssd?  Do I need to make a bootable usb stick so I can format the new drive and boot enough to download mavericks from the app store or does mavericks keep a portion of itself in the computer memory so it can help recover from a hard drive crash?
Honestly, I don't know what other questions to ask (yet).
    David

The easiest way would be to put the SSD into a 2.5 enclosure then boot into the Recovery partition by holding down Command and R at boot. Use disk utility to prep the new drive then install to it.
Those few errors you're talking about could be due to a faulty SATA cable. That will really show itself with an SSD, so if you get a lot of errors after moving the SSD in, that's a likely culprit.
By the way, the easiest way to do this if you don't need a clean install is with Carbon Copy Cloner. Just clone your existing drive to the SSD.

  • Ready to install Snow Leopard 10.6.3 version. Will it be compatible with Adobe Photoshop CS 8 version? Should I install Rosetta?

    Hello,
I have the Snow Leopard 10.6.3 disc and want to install onto my Mac OSX Tiger. But before doing install, really would like some information as to whether I will be able to still use my older Adobe Photoshop CS on SL. I have read a few discussions here, and noticed someone suggesting to install Rosetta. Will this be necessary?
    Help appreciative.

Well, the install or rather no install was a disaster!
Going the Over Tiger without erase/install resulted in a nightmare scenario. When I put the Snow Leopard 10.6.3 disc in, it started and began installation up to about three minutes and than stopped... The Installer Failed. Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer... click restart to restart your computer and try installing again.
When I clicked restart, it tried to reinstall but I wanted to just return to my tiger disc. Somehow something happened that caused the computer to suddenly just shut down and left my Snow Leopard disc in my drive. So, looking at a black screen, I attempted to restart but it kept shutting down never going beyond the white screen. Then I tried to remove the disc, but nothing happened until I figured out to hold down the eject key while pressing the power button on the back and than releasing. Anyway, the disc ejected. So than I had to reinstall my actual startup discs, do a disk utility and sure enough I had a hard drive error.
Anyway, after two hours of reinstalling my Tiger operating system 10.4 I'm now looking at a very clean system. Now not sure what to do next regarding attempt with Snow Leopard.
I noticed that once I did some software updates what was 232 free space is now down to 216.75 GB. Is this enough free space to install SL?
Really feeling defeated. Scared about trying another attempt. Have my external still unplugged plus printer stuff.
If I start again, what exactly should I do to prevent another disaster. When I install SL should I do another disk utility to check for any errors on the SL disc?

  • Is Photoshop 6.0 compatible with Mac OS Mavericks or Yosemite and if yes, how do I install?

is Photoshop 6.0 compatible with Mac OS Mavericks or Yosemite and if yes, how do I install?

Well, probably not what you wanted to hear, but if you come across an older Mac, you should be able to use your old copy.
These are the old system requirements.  You want CS6 or better for today's Intel/OSX Macs.
    • PowerPC® processor
    • Mac OS software version 8.5, 8.6,or 9.0
    • 64 MB of RAM* (with Virtual Memory on)
    • 125 MB of available hard-disk space (after install)
    • Color monitor with 256-color (8-bit) or greater video card
    • 800x600 or greater monitor resolution
    • CD-ROM drive
And thanks for reporting back, at least I know what happened even if it didn't fix things.

  • Mavericks install freezes with prohibitory sign and spinning wheel

I tried to update my MacMini from Lion to Mavericks. Everything went ok until after restart. On gray screen, Apple logo showed up for a while with spinning wheel which soon turned into prohibitory sign and spinning wheel. And this is where it stayed for hours and hours. Luckily I was able to recover back to Lion. I tried to update for another time but with exactly same results. Lion runs just fine with no problems but it would be nice to update if it is possible. Is anyone else out there having this same issue?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Did you check that all your apps are compatible with OS X Mavericks?
What I recommend you to do is to get a USB drive or DVD and copy the OS X Mavericks installer to it by using Lion Diskmaker > http://liondiskmaker.com Also, make a backup of your data with Time Machine.
Then, hold the Option (Alt) key while your computer is starting up and select your DVD or USB drive. Open Disk Utility, choose Macintosh HD in the sidebar and erase the drive, and finally, close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X. Disconnect all peripherals from your computer except the mouse, the keyboard and the USB drive or DVD, and see if OS X Mavericks is installed correctly.
After reinstalling Mavericks, you will be able to restore the backup you made

  • I was going to install Rosetta Stone Spanish onto my Macbook but am concerned about it taking up space on my 2GB hard-drive.  I have an external WD hard-drive; is it possible to put the application onto the external hard-drive to save space on my mac?

I was going to install Rosetta Stone Spanish onto my Macbook 10.6.7 but am concerned about it taking up space on my 2GB hard-drive.  I have an external WD hard-drive, and I was wondering if it is possible to put the application onto the external hard-drive to save space on my Mac?

I think you're confused about how much hard drive space you have.  You probably have 2 GB of RAM...  there hasn't been a Mac shipped with only a 2 GB hard drive in a while.  At the bottom of any Finder window, how much space is available?
If you're actually running low on space, you should move documents to the external drive, since many applications want to be on the system drive.

  • How do I run Windows software on my MacBook Pro with OS X Mavericks

How do I run Windows software on my MacBook Pro with OS X Mavericks? I want to run a TurboTax program to amend an old tax return. Program is not available for OSX.

    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows 7 or Windows 8.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. A more recent comparison of Parallels, VM Fusion, and Virtual Box is found at Virtualization Benchmarks- Parallels 10 vs. Fusion 7 vs. VirtualBox. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard and later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Air 3.9 Crashes with OS X Mavericks 10.0

Can anyone tell me if Air 3.9 is compatible with OS X Mavericks 10.9? I have two keyword applications that are crashing now that I hve updated. - Rusty

It should be.  I run a few AIR apps daily on my 10.9 install and haven't run into a problem.  Could you email ([email protected]) me your applications so I can test them out?  If you haven't already, I'd also recommend opening a new bug report at bugbase.adobe.com so we can get this formally into our system.
    Thanks,

  • I am unable to access intranet on my MacBook Pro 13" with OS X mavericks. Is it possible to use files on the Local Area Network?

I am unable to access intranet on my MacBook Pro 13" with OS X mavericks. Is it possible to use files on the Local Area Network? I use the files on the Local Area Network on my windows computer by typing in the I.P address in the library. Kindly guide me how i can use these files stored over the Local Area Network.

I disabled GateKeeper's automatic blocking of unrecognised developers, and so I was able to install the driver.
The Mobile Connect program is now installed, but the computer still does not recognise the modem.
I also borrowed a USB hub from a friend and it didn't make a difference.

  • Preflight Droplet asks to install Rosetta!???

    Hi,
Does anyone knows why Acrobat 9.3.4 Pro is asking me to install Rosetta on a Mac mini 2010 with Mac OS 10.6.4?
In Acrobat I created a new preflight profile and afterwards a droplet on my desktop for this profile.
The weird thing is that, as soon as I drop a pdf file on the icon, Mac OS asks me to install ‘Rosetta'.
Newest computer, newest OS and CS5. What is Rosetta doning here, I wonder?
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance,
    Johny

You may want to consider FlightCheck v6.75 which can preflight PDF files and the native source files alike (Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, etc, etc). Since it is a desktop app, there is no need to create a droplet or the likes. Just download the 30-day demo, drag-and-drop your PDF, .INDD, .AI, .PS, .JPG, etc documents onto the FlightCheck icon and get an easy to understand preflight report.
You will want to maybe select one of the many preset PDF Preflight Profiles, which we call Ground Control sets or edit one to suit your quality assurance needs.
The beauty of FlightCheck is you do not need Acrobat or any of the native applications open or even on your machine. It is a stand-alone application.
For the record, as Peter has reminded me in the past, I come from the Markzware stables, the makers of FlightCheck and many other Creative Suite conversion tools. Acrobat postflight feature can be great, but FlightCheck is a true preflight work-horse across publishing and printing file formats.
    Friendly Regards,
    David

  • Keep getting "finder quit unexpectedly while using PackageKit Plug-In" intermittently after install of 10.9.2 Mavericks, what should i do?

When i restart, reboot, power down or power up i keep getting (intermittently) an error window pop up saying - "finder quit unexpectedly while using PackageKit Plug-In" - this has only been occuring since after install of 10.9.2 Mavericks. Also powering down or restarting in anyway now takes much longer than normal despite not having any 3rd party apps scheduled to open at startup! - note i also upgraded the memory of my early (2011) 13 inch macbook pro from 4GB to 8GB, but hadnt caused any issues prior to install of Mavericks 10.9.2.
What should i do, can anyone help with a fix other than suggesting i take it into an apple store (as i'm out of warranty) or without having to do a software re-install from the recovery discs? Thanks.

    Hello vajrabairava,
This may be the result of a damaged system component. I would recommend reinstalling Mavericks in order to replace any damaged components. This should not affect any data on the system, but I do strongly suggest ensuring that you have a good backup in place prior to reinstalling Mavericks.

  • I need to install Rosetta.

I need to install Rosetta but when the dialog box comes up and i click install, it does not install and insted stays the same. I don't have the disk so how can i install it?

You probably need a reasonably fast broadband connection to get anywhere with an online Rosetta grab - it runs to something a little short of 2GB, IIRC.
Are there any messages in the Console or system logs which refer to Rosetta when your unsuccessful grabs are attempted?
P.S. I'd personally be very reluctant to attempt running a Mac, or, indeed, any other machine, without a system/restore disk. Probably the easiest way of fixing your problem, assuming that said problem isn't down to your network settings being snafu, is the acquisition of the aforementioned disk.

  • Is Adobe CS4 compatible with Mac OSX Maverick?

    Hello,
Is Adobe CS4 compatible with Mac OSX Maverick?
    Thk

I just upgraded my OS to Mavericks X, and my previously installed Photoshop CS4 failed to run when I tried to launch it.
I even downloaded a brand new version from a link here that was in a "Mavericks X" column, giving me SOME confidence that it might just function on the new OS.
So far, I've been down 3 days since upgrading my OS. I cannot get Photoshop CS4 to run, no matter what I've tried!
Yes, I've uninstalled the prior version before installing the new one. I entered all of my serial number and registration information, and still NOTHING! Bridge appears to work fine, but Photoshop CS4 is just one big crater right now!
I'd like to just talk with a human at Adobe on the phone for a few minutes, which should be all that's needed to get it resolved, but they do NOT offer phone support for Photoshop products!!! And, I'm unable to locate how to even become a "Premium Member" (paid) that will allegedly provide phone support!
    HELP!
    Bob
