Installing SAP EP and SAP PI on a single system

Dear Gurus,
We need to install a new PI server. Client has a shortage of hardware resources and wants that PI server should co-exist with an already live EP server. This installation has already been done by the client as a part of EP Go-Live. When I say that both the application coexists, I mean to say that EP/XI would have a common database and common SID.
I have already shared my concerns with cons of implementing two production server simultaneously and all standard recommendations given by SAP including performance issues and typicality involved from admin point of view. I also refered the url /thread/176484 [original link is broken]
as a part of my claim that the systems cannot coexist under single SID.
Can you all please let me know whether the co-existence of PI/EP under single SID posses any potential risk and whether it is technically and functionally feasible.

Hi All,
I had raised an OSS also in this regards and got a reply on possible issues which had been discusses already in a post from me on the same issue.
The possible issues can be
1. Upgrading individual applications
2. Individuality is compromised when just one application restart is required.
3. Performance issues can't be segregated.
4. Complexity is increased.
5. Separating the two applications at a later stage would be impossible.
I had already mentioned the above points in OSS itself and had asked them if there is any application conflict and any application/design level issues. The consultant who replied back to my message had assumed that taking in consideration above points they can't coexist.
My client had raised a similar message and got a reply that they can coexist but with above limitations.
When I replied back on OSS raised by me asking the same, I got a blunt reply that they can coexist and this is a consulting issue. This reply was quiet weird.
Though the bottom line from the two OSS is that they can coexist but with aforesaid limitations.
We have finally tested it in our test environment and developments for both the applications can be done.
Though the good news for me is that my client has finally agreed to keep the instances separate.

Kinldy make clear cut query before you look for an answer to that!
To check for the WAS-J2EE Stack installation - kindly use the following link to access your WAS j22 Start page "http://hostname:5XX00" where XX will be the System No. for SAP System.
Incase if you want to find out that you have a EP installed: goto:-
"http://hostname:5XX00/irj"
For XI , you can go to "http://hostname:5XX00/rep"
Incase the links work properly the software component is installed.
PREREQUISITE for the above CHECKS:
1) The system number should be correct.
2) The Fully qualified domain name should be used for the hostname.
3) The Software components and the J2EE Stack should be operational.
(ON the SAP SERVER)On OS level --> you can Go and have a look for the following directories existence --->
1) usr/sap/SID/DV*.../j2ee,
2) usr/sap/SID/DV*.../SDM
This means that you have atleast the Java Stack installed on your SAP Server.
Next in the task manager(WINDOWS) / process level(UNIX) you can check if you have process "jlaunch process under the sidadm owner".
In SAP Frontend-GUI :
You can login and go to T-Code ST11 and check for the log files
dev_disp, dev_dispatcher, dev_server0, dev_jcontrol, dev_bootstrapID.......,
these file will give you info regarding the J2ee stack and its components....

Connecting SAP ERP and SAP XI via RFC (in cluster)

Hi all,
I have a strange problem with SAP ERP and SAP XI (production systems). Both systems are installed in cluster. I am trying to connect both systems via RFC, so I configurred TCP connection using SM59. But, when I try to test connection, I am always getting error "Program xxxx is not registered". When I register the program on the sender communication channel on different system (develop system - different machine), connection works fine. Configuration on both SAP XI production and development systems is identical. I just cannot understand, why production SAP ERP does not see registered program on production SAP XI. Has anybody experiences with this? Or any other ideas where should be the problem?

Are you configuring the RFC Sender adapter with load balancing?
what is the hostname you're using for ERP?
Is it the message server's?
Also, make sure the dispatcher is properly configured, sending the requisitions to the application servers.

SNC between SAP BO and SAP BW for MS Advanced Analysis

Hy experts, i have configured the SNC between SAP BO and SAP BW but for any user i have this issue:
when the user launch a Bex Query by MS Advanced Analysis, this error message occurs:
No applicable data found.
On the SAP BW system, on ST22 there is this runtime error:

Ciao Andrea,
just a couple of hints:
- Did you already tried to skip logon to BOE and instead directly select BW system? this should avoid to involve snc and then BEx query should be accessible. This would be a further confirmation that issue is the SNC, even if the log you posted is pretty clear about that.
- Do you have snc installed even in local PC running MS Advanced Analysis? I Think it is necessary for the described workflow (page 24 of Admin Guide):

Furthermore, if I rember correctly, there could be restriction in license using SAP Cryptographic Library (client connection is not supported: SAP notes 597059 and 397195), so you should check your SNC software.

SAP hostagent and SAP netweaver nodes not visible in WIEM

We are implementing SAP BusinessObjects performance monitoring through
RSC. RSC SP3
We have installed SMD Agent on BOE server which forms "Managed Agent".
We have utilising existing WIEM installed in SOlution Manager.
We have installed SMD Agent on client desktop whicn forms "Managing
Agent" since Solution Manager does not have connectivity to internet
even through proxy server.
We have run configuration UI for Managing Agent which completed
successfully.
The configuration setup of Managed Agent also completed successfully.
But, as informed in the installation guide the "SAP HostAgent" and "SAP
NetWeaver" processes & nodes are not created in WIEM.\ check configuration 6.3.3 in RSC SP3 guide/
We checked connectivity & port settings and we have no issues.

Hi Atul,
I see where the problem is coming from by analyzing the debugging logs.
When you ran the RSCSetup.bat and you were prompted for the Wily Introscope Enterprise Manager connection details and you put in:
HOSTNAME: CPHSMAD1
PORT: 8081
This is incorrect. That port number is the HTTP port of Wily Introscope, not the WIEM port. You must use the WIEM port which by default is port 6001 (this port will be the same as when you log on to WIEM via the Wily Introscope Investigator client)
Please do the following to correct the problem:
1) On the managed host (CPWBOAD1) run the RSCSETUP.BAT again. Choose deactivate and allow the process to finish.
2) On the managed host, uninstall the SMDAgent (with SID PRD) by running sapinst again and choose "uninstall"
3) On the managed host reinstall the SMDAgent (RSC Diagnostic Agent) again.
4) Confirm the new SMDAgent (PRD) service is running. If it isnt, start it.
5) On the managed host, run the RSCSETUP.bat again and make sure to choose the correct "Wily Introscope Enterprise Manager" port and host name (for example, CPHSMAD1 and 6001)
6) Now on the managing host, run the RSC UI Configuration Wizard again. The SMDAgent should appear now.

Confuse between SAP Kernel and SAP Installation file

Dears:
My CPU is ADM 64 bit, but when i try to download the ECC5 which will be installed in linux 32 bit system from SAP site, i find the confuse between SAP Kernel and SAP instllation file.
1. In the ECC5 download page, i can see lots of oracle download file, some named DVD ORACLE RDBMS 10.2 LINUX_IA32 1 of 4 , some named Oracle 10.2.0.2. for LINUX32. So if the LINUX_IA32 is only for the CPU which is Itanium CPU?
2. I check the sap update kernel, SAP Kernel 32 bit unicode is devided by sap kernel 6.4 320-bit unicode---Linux on IA 32-bit, so if my CPU is AMD 64 bit, but my os is Linux 32 bit, if the upgrade kernel file Linux on IA 32-bit can be used for Linux 32 bit system whith 64 bit CPU, or if the Linux on IA 32-bit is just for Itanium CPU?

I just checked the pam again, and it looks like i got it wrong. There is still 32-bit available for ECC5.

So technically it should be possible to install it the way you wanted. Sorry for my misleading post (but hey you should still consider using 64-bit :-).

SAP IBP and SAP S&OP on HANA

I am trying to understand the relationship between SAP S&OP on HANA and SAP IBP.
I see the latest version of S&OP on HANA is 3.0 SP02. Is this actually the 'S&OP' part of the IBP 4.0 application suite, or does IBP 4.0 have a specific, different, S&OP component?

IBP for S&OP is the next version of SAP S&OP on HANA.
It is similar to our SAP APO and SAP SCM name change of next versions.
IBP is a Suite and IBP for S&OP is one of the component. You can subsribe along with IBP's other components or Stand alone.

SAP Product Lifecycle Management is a complete and vast area in SAP. There are many functionalities covers in PLM. In simple word in whichever functionality directly involves in this process are can be a part of PLM like what you said QM also.
The definition of PLM schould (or could) be:
- Document Management (DMS)
- cFolder and cProject (and PS)
- CAD and Office Document integration
- Task Management, Work Flow, Status Network etc.
PLM can include modules: PS,PM,QM, PP, MM, CS, SD, Document Management etc..
SAP QM is a separate module which you can implement with MM or wherever applicable.

Hi Denish,
You have 2 ways of loading data from R/3 to APO.
1. R/3 to BW cube to APO-BW cube to APO planning area
or
2. R/3 to APO-BW cube to APO planning area
BW can be a enterprise BW system ( independent) or you can use the BW inbuilt in APO also referred to as APO-BW.
The only difference between the 2 BW systems is APO-BW can not take the load of reporting where as the enterprise BW can.
Unless your company policy requires the enterprie BW system, I suggest using 2nd way.
You can load the data from R/3 to APO-BW cube using extractors either generic or standard depending on your data. You need to have a RFC connection setup between APO-BW and R/3. ( This is not CIF).
When you load the data into the APO-BW cube, you just have to load the data from the cube to APO planning area using the transaction /sapapo/tscube.

Various XML standards are supported by SAP. It presents data according to an SAP specification either in IDoc-XML or BAPI-XML, the SAP XML extensions for IDocs and BAPIs. It uses preprepared representations of the SAP interfaces to XML Commerce Business Language (xCBL) messages to facilitate communication with the MarketSet marketplaces.
Messages are stored in a generic envelope. This envelope contains metadata that controls, among other things, the routing of the messages. SAP supports two different standards for these envelopes - Microsoft BizTalk and a format similar to Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP). Packaging SAP BAPIs in a standard envelope offers several advantages, including direct processing of messages by external applications and a uniform system of error handling.

2) Logon on SAP BO
3) Select the System connection for SAP BW where the SNC has been configured
4) Select the bex Query
5) The system response with this message: No applicable data found.
