Installing Secondary Site
I have a question on installing SCCM 2012 Secondary Site
There is a push on to refresh half of my SCCM 2012 Secondary Site servers to new hardware, and new OS (server 2012 R2)
The way I have done this previously has been to have the server built and configured, taken to the site, change the name of the old server, and then change the name of the new server to be the same name as the server being replaced. After the new server
is up and running, patched, hardened, etc... I would then build the secondary site as if it was new, install IIS and SQL, configure them as required, and then install the secondary site (all once the server is in production in its final resting plce).
Management now is asking me to have everything done prior to shipping the box to the site. I have mentioned that this is not recommended (as it was not supported in CM7).
Has this changed in CM12? I cannot think of a way to stand up an SCCM secondary site, then remove the hardware, ship to site and change the server name and actually have SCCM work without a re-install
My questions:
Can I install and configre SQL before the move and successfully rename?
Can I install CM12 secondary before the move and successfully rename?
What, if any, issues will I come across if I set this all up as they want?

There is a requirement to have the new server named SiteServer2, and move it out to the site to replace SiteServer1, SiteServer2 MUST be renamed to SiteServer1 once in place - I cannot change this policy, I need to comply...
Based on your statement, I should be able to install and configure the CM12 secondary site while it is not a member of the domain, configure SCCM using site code ABC (where the machine is currently at), remove it from that site, take it to the site, join
the domain, rename the server and have CM12 work as a secondary in site XYZ without any issues?
Back when I did the CM7 upgrade, I was asked to do this in this exact scenario, Microsoft Premier Support was called due to a number of issues post move, and was told this scenario is NOT supported and I had to uninstall and reinstall SCCM

AND IN SHOW INSTALL STATUS I am getting Following Error:

You answered your own question here didn't you. Why not remove the Windows Internal Database role from the server and try again?

Secondary Site Install Stuck at "Pending"
I have tried installing on 3 servers with the same result. The install stays at "Pending" after passing Prerequisite checks. This is Configuration Manager 2012 R2 CU3 the site is Server 2012.

About the ERROR: Site server does not have create child permission on AD 'System Management' in ConfigMgrPrereq.log, please give the Secondary Site Server Computer Account permissions
to the System Management container in AD.
Please confirm that the server installed secondary site has met all the prerequisites.

Environment: SCCM 2012 R2 on a Windows 2012 R2 primary site server. Got 6 working secondary sites. Trying to add another, the first one on a Windows 2012 R2, others are on 2012 and 2008 R2.
Problem: Fails to install - secondary site.
Secondary Site Install status

Things I've tried:
Different install folders
Using source files from the secondary site computer - got some error that the versions didn't match with the primary, even though I generated the files from the primary site.
Pre-installing SQL 2008 R2 SP2 and SQL 2012 R2 SP1
- With all SQL ports manually configured to 1433 - no errors on prereqs checks other than the warning about configuring minimum memory
Verified the computer account has full rights to System Management in Active Directory
Removing all other SQL databases
Restarted the servers a million times.
Forgetting some stuff I tried I think, but any ideas would be greatly appreciated.Thanks for the suggestion, the command runs fine in 2012 R2 as well, but where do I put the XXX.CT5 file? I did as suggested and put it in Install dir\inboxes\hman.box\ on the secondary site server but this didnt change the errors I got when retrying the
install.
I've also created two new servers in the site, a plain as day 2012 R2 server and a plain as day 2008 R2 SP1 server (with the pre-req roles and features of course) and created new sites in SCCM and tried to setup on these new servers, I got the exact same

We try to install sccm 2012 serondary site in server 2012. It always failed.
I used the rereqchek tools to check system enviroment locally. All passed.
The primary site installed in server 2012. Both server had granted the administrator permission.

Procedure performing a "Retry Secondary Site" Operation in SCCM 2012 R2 Secondary Server
Dear Brother,
My SCCM 2012 R2 Secondary Site Server, unfortunately crashed and required to be restored, doing this I end up performing a "Retry Secondary Site Operation.
One by one I am clearing out the errors but there are few remaining errors on the prerequisite checks:
1.[Failed]:The logon account for the SQL Server service cannot be a local user account, NT SERVICE\<sql service name> or LOCAL SERVICE. You must configure the SQL Server service to use a valid domain account, NETWORK SERVICE, or LOCAL SYSTEM.
Actions Done: SQL Related Services use Logon As Domain Account "Microsoft-Domain\BillAdmin" , but still the above message still appears in the logs.
Actions Done: None
2.[Failed]:The collation of the site database does not match the collation of the parent site's database. All sites in a hierarchy must use the same database collation.
3.[Failed]:The site server might be unable to publish to Active Directory. The computer account for the site server must have Full Control permissions to the System Management container in its Active Directory domain. You can ignore this warning if you have
manually verified these permissions. For more information about your options to configure required permissions, see

Actions Done: None, as this machine is previously a working Secondary site for 1 Year already. So I do not suspect anything from the current related configuration.
4.[Failed]: Either the user account running Configuration Manager Setup does not have sysadmin SQL Server role permissions on the SQL Server instance selected for site database installation, or the SQL Server instance could not be contacted to verify permissions.
Setup cannot continue.

SCCM 2012 Clients at Secondary Site don't update and shows status as INACTIVE
I have 1 Primary site and 1 Secondary sites. I have setup Secondary site Boundaries using IP subnet. I see that the systems from secondary
site show in the console and they all have clients installed but however 60% of the system shows client activity as INACTIVE and not receiving any heartbeat DDR none of the system showing hardware inventory. I am not positive
where to look as far as logs are concerned. I think the clients aren't receiving policy like they should.
Just to give a brief idea, Secondary Site server crashed and we had to rebuild the server and re install secondary site after rebuilding all the
problem. Everything is working fine in Primary site.
Secondary site is communicating with primary site MP and DP
I have checked MPcontrol.log it shows status as OK
I am able to install client through console but yes when I check the configuration manager properties it shows CCM Notification Agent as DISSABLED

So not all the clients show inactive? Have you checked the logs in an inactive client? Such as ClientIDManagerStartup.log.
Have you checked Secondary Site server's computer name from SQL logins? You could try to remove this account, wait a while, recreate the same computeraccount login with sysadmin access. You could use Configuration Analyzer for System Center 2012 R2 to troubleshoot issues.

i have installed secondary site and create boundary based on IP range on secondary site. secondary and its parent join on the same domain.
when i see LocationService.log and client agent on control panel show MP of Primary site.
what shall i do?Clients will reflect the site code and MP of their primary site so this should be OK. They will also show a resident MP (if I remember correctly) of the MP in the secondary site. Note that in 2007 you must add the MP to secondary site as it's not there
automatically.

Secondary Site install - Site Control File is invalid
I have installed 9 secondary sites successfully and without issue. My tenth however is not going as well.
The bootstrap.pkg made it there and the install shows as completed however reviewing sitecomp.log on the secondary site shows the following:

Renamed secondary site accidentally,communication error-set back to old name. try to retry secondary site install Error: site system role or site server role already installed.
However i have removed SQL express and also deleted registry entery from HKLM/MICROSOFT/SOFTWARE/SMS. I am trying to remove system center configuration secondary site setup from control panel and its not letting me to do so.
Please advice. Your help will be appreciated.

Amit singhIt sounds like you've broke everything you could find.... Not sure how you can accidently rename a server, or why you would remove all settings manually first without using the setup (from the control panel).
If that specific server is only used for ConfigMgr I wouldn't spend to much time on it anymore and simply reinstall the server and than reinstall the site.

I am having some issues installing a secondary site at a remote location and it’s driving me crazy. Here is the setup I have.
SCCM 2012 Primary Site in datacenter
SQL Server 2012 hosted on the primary site server
Firewall ports opened for 80, 135, 443, 445, 1433, 4022, 8530 on cisco and host firewalls
Attempting to have secondary site at each branch office
Secondary site server computer account is in local admin group on primary
Primary site server computer account is in local admin group on secondary
Secondary site server has full access to system management container in AD
Secondary site server computer account is in a security group which has sysadmin rights on the primary SQL Server
Utilizing Secondary Site Server pre-existing SQL 2008 R2 instance
Confirmed 1433, and 4022 accessibility with telnet from secondary to primary
I run the secondary site wizard from the console, it passes all prereqs and runs setup for about 5 minutes on the secondary site server and fails here (ConfigMgrSetup.log):

Site Code for SCCM Clients installed from Secondary Site Server

We have started the implementation of SCCM 2012 R2 at our network. We have setup a Primary site (JFO) server & pushed out the installation of SCCM clients to the local subnet. Things went fine.
We have installed a Secondary site (ATC) at a remote network. We have tested client installation in the installation wizard we specify to install the client from the Secondary server. When SCCM client installed from the Secondary server, the site
code that appears on the client in the control panel->Configuration Manager client settings is the site code of the primary site and not the secondary site.
Is this behavior is normalUltimately, secondary sites do *not* manage clients and so will never be assigned to the secondary site. However, do note that resources in the console that represent systems that do not have the client agent may show the site code of the secondary site
if they fall within a boundary group associated with that secondary site. This is done so that client push can be initiated from the correct site. More gory details at http://blog.configmgrftw.com/secondary-sites-and-boundary-groups/

Have tried uninstalling IIS, BITS and MP and the error continues.

after the error pop-out,it started installing again but you never posted the results for it.

Move secondary site (virtual machine) from one server to another server, something to take care?
Hi guys
In our company we have a subsidiary with a simple infrastructure with a Domain Controller, some other virtual Server, Switches etc.
When we start to use the SCCM in our company, we take the decision that we want to install in this subsidiary a secondary site.
Thats why we organize a computer with good performance and installed ESXi on it. On the ESXI we create a VM with Windows Server 2012 and prepare it as secondary site.
All well and good. But now we want to setup a new infrastructor on this subsidiary with a high-performance Server. On this high performance server should also installed ESXi.
My question is, if we want to move the VM (which has installed our secondary site on it) from the computer to the server, do we need take care about something?
- IP address is going to keep the same
- No changes in Firewall
- No changes generally Network IP address
We considered, that we will shutdown the server (virtual machine) and make an export and import that virtual machine into the new server.

Uninstalling Secondary Site Server through SW Delivery fails
We have migrated to SCCM2012
and now need to uninstall our
SCCM 2007 Secondary Siteserver.
Since we have 300 Secondary Site Server
in the Hirarchy, the uninstall
of the software must be distributed.
We have to create a task sequence,
in which the following steps are
performed:
Put the server in the SCOM
Maintenance Mode
Stop SCCM services SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER
and SMS_EXECUTIVE
Uninstalling the Secondary Siteserver with the
Command "{install path} \setup.exe /deinstall"
Cleanup of folders and files that are left
Restarting the Server
Take server out of the SCOM
Maintenance Mode
The uninstallation works well on all Windows Server 2008 R2 Server. But not on the Windows Server 2003. After this errors, the Task Sequence Deployment aborts.

When removing a secondary site using the Delete Secondary Site Wizard, you must choose whether to delete or uninstall the secondary
site:
Deleting the site will delete all information about the site and its resources from the Configuration Manager site database at its
parent site, but it will leave the Configuration Manager secondary site installed on the secondary site computer. Select this option if you have already manually uninstalled the secondary site using Configuration Manager Setup at the secondary site computer.
When Configuration Manager 2007 sites are deleted, the deleted site information is only deleted from the deleted site's direct parent site. Site deletion
information is not propagated up the hierarchy to grandparent sites. In order to delete the site from the site database at sites above the deleted site's direct parent site, the hierarchy maintenance tool (Preinst.exe) must be run on every primary site above
the deleted site's parent primary site using the command Preinst /delsite. For more information about the hierarchy maintenance tool, see
