Installing Server Monitor on my G5 desktop?
We have a nice Xserve here at work and I'd like to be able to use Server Monitor remotely on my G5 desktop. Basically, this is a laziness issue since the server sits about 15 feet away from my desk. So, is there a way to do this?

Jeremy-
Sure you can.
Download the tools here: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosxserveradmintools.html
I am not sure what the licensing requirements are, but as long as you are running a legal copy of XServer software then you should be fine.

How to install server on 10.7.1
i downloaded OS X Lion Server from the app store. installed it and tested it. updated to 10.7.1.
then i followed apples instructions to remove lion server.
now, when i try to re-install server, i cannot because my desktop version is 10.7.1, 10.7.0 is required. what to do????I had to re-format and re-install.
Command-R during a reboot got me to the Lion recovery,
Reformatted with disk utility.
Reinstalled Lion.
Went to app store and re-downloaded and re-installed server.
Then went to http://support.apple.com/downloads and manually installed 10.7.1 server for Mac mini.
Everything is working great now ! -
Server Monitor Issue-My Server Wont Stay in List
Using server monitor on my G5 Desktop, or on the G4 Xserve is useless.
The problem is that the server no longer appears in the list. When I add it, it just flickers on the list for a second, then it disappears. Does anyone know what could be happening?
G5 Client: OSX 10.4.5
G4 XServe: OSX 10.4.5I FIGURED IT OUT
I had the "Show Warnings and Failures only". This is kind of stupid because you are not aware that the server is listed. I guess this makes sense from a server farm viewpoint. Maybe there should be a checkbox that says "Make all servers visible" or something like that. -
I am using CAD 9 with UCCE 9.
I am trying to figure out how to configure CAD Server Monitoring - Cannot use Desktop Monitoring as Clients PCs are old and NIC cards are not supported, even the IP Phones are ols and do not have BIB.
So SPAN is the only option. I need some guidance - even a document URK will do. I have read 'CTI OS System Manager Guide' and also 'CAD Install Guide' but none explains the config. I am confused about below the point:
- SPAN source are the phones - what is the destination - the supervisor PCs or the CAD Server? If the PCs, then do we need a SPAN for each supervisor PC or what?
If SPAN destination is the server, then how will the supervisors get the RTP stream from CAD to their PC - automatically or do we have to configure something specific?
Also, on the CAD Desktop Admin webpage - VoIP Monitoring Service - (see screenshot) do I select Default Monitor Service and Disable Desktop monitoring OR I can leave Desktop Service Enabled and it will not conflict with Server Monitoring.
And if SPAN destination is CAD server - I am planning to add a 3rd NIC card for this, but where do I select the NIC card for receiving/ reading these SPANNed packets?
Please Assist.
Thanks,
KartikUCCE SRND has a littel tid-bit about it:

Problems installing Adobe Air and BBC iPlayer Desktop
Problems installing Adobe Air and BBC iPlayer Desktop
I'm running Windows 7 32 bit on an ASUS netbook with 2mb ram. I installed both Air 3.7 and BBC iPlayer Desktop using Google Chrome. I downloaded 3 BBC programmes. Two ran fine but the third wouldn't start and I kept getting a message to try again later. I deleted this programme and downloaded it again, with the same result.
So I uninstalled both Air and the BBC iPlayer Desktop, the Air exe file and the two folders at the following locations:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\AIR\ and
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\BBCiPlayerDesktop.xxx
Since doing this each time I try to install Air either on its own or with the BBC iPlayer software I get the message part way through installation:
"Sorry, an error has occurred.
An error occurred while installing Adobe AIR. Installation may not be allowed by your administrator. Please contact your administrator."
I have run the Microsoft Fix it programme and still get the same result.
I have tried everything on your Trouble Shooting page apart from the bit about the elevated command prompt, but as I'm the sole user and administrator, that seems unnecessary.
I have closed Chrome and tried installation using Windows Explorer but with the same result.
I have tried all the above with Microsoft Security Essentials running and disabled. And I have tried the same with Astrill on and off.
I have had a response from the BBC with much the same advice as appears on your trouble shooting page.
Here is the Air installation log, followed by the MSI log.

Server Monitor no longer working between 10.5 client & 10.4 servers?
I've been running Server Monitor 1.5f6 under 10.4.x on my desktop machine to monitor a dozen or so Apple Xserves running 10.4.x Server for ages (3 years?). Upon upgrading my desktop machine to Leopard the Server Monitor application no longer connects to any of the remote Xserves. They simply state "waiting for connection". I tried every "expert" diagnostic I can think of including deleting prefs, caches, adding & removing server entries, firewall off (on the server), etc. I also observed that upon quitting the application, it often produces a crash message instead.
So I tried what I thought would be the obvious fix of upgrading to the latest Server Admin Tools suite (downloaded from Apple, also v10.5) on my desktop which includes Server Monitor 1.5.1-- only to discover it does not work either.
If I boot back into 10.4, everything works again so I am 110% sure the problem is related to Leopard. The 10.4 servers can also monitor each other fine (as a test).
Now I've seen some similar reports in this forum about problems with the admin tools after 10.4.11 and such. But none of them clearly described IMHO the exact problem of using Server Monitor under a remote Leopard client to monitor a 10.4 Xserve.
Can anyone else confirm this problem? Am I missing something?Wow, thanks for the article reference. Some times no amount of searching will uncover the hidden treasures.
So... not to be too dramatic but... what is Apple trying to do? PUNISH users that have not purchased any copies of 10.5 server? Why wouldn't they release a stand-alone Server Admin Tools installer like they have in the past? (They "forgot"???)
As it appears someone attempted the package extract approach (and it didn't work), can someone offer another solution?
p.s. Where is that number for my Apple rep... >:-( UNHAPPY! -
Server monitor not working (hardware monitor)
Just finnished installing my brand new maxed out Intel Xserves. And the Server monitor isn't working.
This thread:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=643361
Didn't solve my problem. hwmond is running on the Xserves but each server line just says "Waiting for response". My /System/Library/ServerSetup/SetupExtras file doesn't even HAVE a Disabled key. It has Label, OnDemand, Program, ProgramArguments and ServiceIPC keys, but no Disabled. And the hwmonds is running anyway.
I have opened server monitor on the xserve itself and tried to open it to itself with no luck. I have configured Lights out management by choosing Server->Configure local Machine and added another IP there with different login, but I can't connect to either IP. Firewalls are all turned off.
Running /System/Library/ServerSetup/SetupExtras/hwmondSetup just says "already loaded"
Server Admin works, I can log in and edit services. Workgroup manager also works.
When i run the hwmond as root on the server, it says "Failed to communicate with the front panel" which could be due to hwmond already running, but I can't turn off the process since launchd (?) launches it again.
When I choose "Configure local Machine" the password I entered is always blank, but maybe that's by design.
Since these servers aren't installed yet I have them in my office and their IP's are temporary, so I read this:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106830
And it says that for this environment I should set the hostname to "localhost" in /etc/hostconfig. Done. Nothing changed.
I've googled this and searched here but found nothing. I'm running out of options... What should I do?I set the server on a desk and do a fresh install off a DVD with the "erase HD" option. Then I install and configure the software I need (Software update, Sophos, power options, etc.) I did not configure LOM at that point, because I wasn't sure how to do it, and I needed to deploy the server. (luckily LOM was easy enough to set up after it was deployed.) Once the server is ready, I connect a FireWire HD to it, which has OS installed on it and boot from that.
That way my server is just an attached disk, and I use Disk Utility to create an image of it, which I then deploy on other servers.
I've had an issue with the G5 XServes where such a method required relatively simple modification before the server monitor would work:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301046
But, I've not had to do that with the Intel XServes. -
Guys,
I have server monitor installed on a 10.5.8 client mini to monitor our 9 xserves and it works fine on all the older ones (all G4 or G5 xserves running tiger or panther) but will not detect any of the 4 new Intel Xeon xserves running 10.5 (mixture of .6 and .8). In each case it alternates between reporting "Software is not installed properly on server" and "CANNOTLOAD_BUNDLEERR".
I'm assuming this is something specific to 10.5 - some sort of SNMP setting or something perhaps? Obviously I've checked the passwords, I'm using root username/password for each one, all the servers are on and available, and like I say, it's working fine on the older ones.
Anybody had any experience with this and know the answer?
Further info: 3 of the servers (of which one is 10.5 and not working) are on the local network (local to the monitoring mini), the remaining 3 10.5's are each on other LAN's to which I have a currently working VPN. In each case the 10.5 machine which isn't working is on the same LAN as an older machine that is, so I know that's not the issue.The Intel XServes seem to operate differently than the old G5 units when it comes to LOM. Mine has been giving me a bugger of a time getting Server Monitor to work properly, but right now it seems to be functioning..
Have you gone to Server Monitor on each of the Intel units and set up the "Configure Local Machine" from the Server menu? It should reject you if you enter the IP address of the Ethernet connection to your LAN - you have to use a different IP address. Configure only the information for 'Network 1' with the info for your LAN.
It may be purely anecdotal, but it seemed to start working for me after I enabled the firewall on the server, leaving all the ports on the LAN open and shutting everything down on the other address groups.

Does the Server Monitor work on PowerPC based machine (w/o LOM)?
I tried using the Server Monitor locally on a PowerPC G4 machine which has 10.5.1 server installed. I always get a "Failed to connect to server" error message, except if I try 127.0.0.1 with the original local admin, then I would get a "User and or Password" error.
Strangely, the username of the admin is M999, but if i type in "M999" as username, I would still get a "Failed to connect to server" error, while if I use "m999" as username, I get a user name password error. Either way, I couldn't use Server Monitor.
So I am wondering whether Server Monitor support machines w/o LOM at all? Is there an trick I should know about?
Thanks
KennethHi
There is no trick you need to know. Its really quite simple, Server Monitor only works with XServes. Apple added LOM capability when they rolled out the Intel XServe.

Server Monitor can't see server
Machine and OS specs:
2 x 2GHz Dual Core Intel Xserve using 1 x ethernet port
OS X 10.4.10
I have just installed a new Xserve set up with mirrored RAID drives which is working perfecty apart from the Server Monitor will not connect just giving the message 'waiting for response'. I have tried all the various admin and root passwords and even tried to connect from my older G4 Xserve with the LOM password, but get the same result. All other administration software works fine.
I have searched various forums and advice sites, but the suggestions I've found have not worked. I read that the com.apple.hwmond.plist can be edited to <false/> from <default/>, but when I open the file in a text editor I get this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
<key>Label</key>
<string>com.apple.hwmond</string>
<key>OnDemand</key>
<false/>
<key>Program</key>
<string>/usr/sbin/hwmond</string>
<key>ProgramArguments</key>
<array>
<string>hwmond</string>
</array>
<key>ServiceIPC</key>
<false/>
</dict>
</plist>
- already set to <false/>!
When I try to connect to the server via it's Terminal by typing ssh -l adminuser (my IP address) I get the message: 'The authenticity of host '(my IP address) (my IP address) can't be established'. This leads me to think something else is up. I can ping it OK.
I have tried pretty much everything I can think of including manually setting IP addresses etc, but I would really appreciate any help or advice with this one.
Thanks.

On the XServe launch Server Monitor, select Add Server and in the IP Address field key in 127.0.0.1 or localhost. In the Name and Password fields key in the default System Administrator account details. Click on Save password in keychain and select a suitable Update every settiing. If you launch WGM you will see the System Administrator account already listed in the local NetInfo node (UID 501). Use the short name as listed in WGM.
Although I have not had the chance to do this yet, but enabling Lights Out Management (LOM) opens port 623 which Server Monitor can use. This may allow for remotely using Server Monitor to monitor the XServe.
Hope this helps – Tony -
Server Monitor is showing no information
I have a Apple G5 Xserve running 10.4.11
I monitor it remotely via Server Monitor tools
Today the entry for this server was showing no information at all
There is the IP address in my list - then a black disk next to where the name of the server normally appears, but no name.
Then a Black disk with a ? in it in the "status summary" field, with no green dots.
If I ARD to the remote server and run the Server monitor tools locally using the 127.0.0.1 loopback address. This shows exactly the same locally as above
Anybody have any clues as how to resolve this? - Just re-installing Server Administration tools package?
I'd rather try and understand whats causing it first, than just blindly re-installing packages.
Any help would be appreciatedHi
Is the daemon associated with Server Monitor running? It's called hwmond. You should see its presence either in Activity Monitor or via the command line using the "top" utility. You may want to read this:
http://www.manpagez.com/man/8/hwmond/
I'd also look at the log and see if anything unusual pops up around the time it stopped working.

Login to BI Server using Oracle BI Publisher Desktop 11g
I have been trying to login into Bi Server using Oracle Bi Publisher Desktop. Once I try to login, a credentials error pops-up saying 'Please Contact your administrator for userid/password'. I am sure the credentials are correct because I used them on a different computer of the same specifications as mine for another user. Please help me.
I am having the same issue.
BI Publisher Desktop 11.1.1.6 32-bit
Office/Word 2010 32-bit
Windows 7 32-bit
Just found a solution that worked for me:
uninstalled BI Publisher Desktop 11.1.1.6 32-bit
manually deleted old installation directory
renamed all .exd files on harddisk to .exd.bak
deleted all temorary files
installed BI Publisher Desktop 11.1.1.5 as administrator
started word 2010 as administrator

Server Monitor error - "CANNOT LOAD BUNDLE ERR"
I got 2 Xserve(s) intel based - 1 installed 10.6.8 and the other 10.5.8 - both server(s) are upto date on software updates.
Server Monitor works fine on both of these server(s) when run locally (from the server). When I run the Server Monitor from my local machine (still in the same network), the server with 10.5.8 works fine, but the server with 10.6.8 shows the error "CANNOT LOAD BUNDLE ERR". I am not sure where I am making a mistake.
Any help highly appreciated..:)

Upgrading from 7 to 9 and server monitor
We just upgraded from cf7 to cf9 and are getting a message in the server monitor that is is unavailable in this version. Our server is Windows 2003 and IIS6 with the standard edition.
It appears to be the issue covered by this tech note
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/527/cpsid_52797.html
The files in the tech note though are for cf8, which we never had, so I'm not sure if it will work (and I'm a bit leery to experiment on a production server).
MattWe did not do a 30 day trial install, if that is what you mean.
We did make a clone of the production server (since it is a vm) and installed it. The server monitor was not something we looked it. Our configuration has some quirks in that we process htm and html requests thru cold fusion. So that was the main focus and debugging nature of our testing. We also had some data source issues.
The server monitor is something we didn't have in 7, so I was just "checking it out" now that we are live on production. -
Server Monitor is not connecting to Server but Server Admin does
I have a Leopard Server up and running. Also the internal network is setup correctly (changeip -checkhostname). Now I want to monitor that server from a Mac OS X Leopard laptop with the Server Monitor tool. So I installed the Administration Tools on the laptop.
Now I can administer and manage the workgroups but I CANNOT monitor it with the Server Monitor. I setup the server with its IP address and the same user name I use to connect using the Server Admin. The log just states *Failed to contact the server*. Again I work with the Server Admin and Workgroup Manager on that server without any issues but the Server Monitor does not work and it even *does not work locally* on the server itself.
Any pointers?
Thanks - AndyHe's right, it doesn't work on anything other than an xserve-
what are you running leopard server on?
if it IS an xserve, this was my problem.
I had my ethernet coming in on EN3- a PCIx card.
Guess what? Server monitor doesn't talk to anything other than EN0 or EN1 out of the box.
You SHOULD however be able to view the xserve itself- using 127.0.0.1 (worked for mine)
This kbase article put me in the right direction-- specifically the IPMITool
to conifigure lights out management(you HAVE to use it if you're using anything other than EN0 or EN1)
