Installing Snow Leopard on New Lion formatted macbook pro

I just purchased a new 15" macbook pro and it came with lion. I need to revert back to snow leopard for a couple of my programs because they aren't currently supported. When I try to boot from the snow leopard disc to add a partition to my hard drive, my laptop beats and will not boot. I installed snow leopard on a different hard drive and swapped it out for the lion formatted one, same result when I try to start, it beeps. When I try to install snow leopard on an external drive I get this error "You can't use this version of the application Install Mac OS X with this version of Mac OS X. You have Install Mac OS X 23.1.1" Any ideas of how I can get snow leopard installed? Thanks!

Sure! A picture is worth a thousand words:
Start up the Target Mac (the one you want to install Snow Leopard on) while holding T. Plug it into another "Helper" Mac using a FireWire cable. Insert the Snow Leopard installer DVD into the Helper Mac, then restart and hold C.
Now you should be able to go through the Snow Leopard installer as normal, but make sure to choose the Target Mac volume as the install destination.
Immediately after installing, download the Mac OS X 10.6.8 combo updater on the Helper Mac and install it to the Target Mac while it's still connected via Firewire. Once that's done, restart the Target Mac on its own, and it should be ready to go!

Buy a Snow Leopard installer DVD at an Apple store or reseller and follow the instructions that will come with it.

Cannot Install Snow Leopard 10.6 disc on Macbook Pro (will not boot disc)

I have a MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB of DDR2 SDRAM. It is currently running Mac osX 10.4.11.
I am trying to install a snow leopard disc 10.6 but when I click on the disc and hit install, it restarts the computer and tries to start it up with the install disc. This is where I get an apple logo with a spinning progress wheel that doesn't go away until I force the laptop to power down.
Can anyone tell me how I can resolve this issue?

Double check to make sure your computer meets all the qualifications for the Snow Leopard upgrade. Especially check out the "Upgrading from Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger" section in the right column - http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html
Your disc may be damaged. You can always take your computer and the disc back to the Apple Store. See if they can boot.

I'm having trouble upgrading from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion on MacBook Pro

I'm having issues trying to upgrade to Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro. I'm running the latest version of Snow Leopard but everytime I try to buy the app in the apple store to upgrade to Mountain Lion it alerts me that my system is not compatibale. I don't' understand I read all the requirements and I meet all of them. My MacBook Pro is from mid to late 2007, I have 3G's of RAM, I have an Intel Duo Core 2, I'm running the latest Snow Leopard.
Anyone else encounter this problem? Any suggestions?

Apple figures that having supported PowerPC code for the last 6 years is enough so they dropped it.
Why should they have to support some that old forever? It doesn't make good business sense to support some that so few will use.
If you must play those games, my suggestion is to get an older Mac that will support PowerPC. It is going to be a difficult task to get Snow Leopard to run on a new Mac.

Snow Leopard is currently running on this MBP 15", late 2011 model, due to my need to run an old version of FileMaker.
A retail disk with 10.6.3 did not work, I restored my previous Snow Leopard install with Disk Utility.
However, it is not the shipped software and is not officially supported on this Mac. Therefore, your advice to troubleshoot Lion is the best option.

According to this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237 the Late-2011 MBPs have the same EFI-version than the Early-2011 ones ( MBP81.0047.B24 EFI 2.3) but different (updated) SMC-versions.
And since the Late-2011 MBPs ship with OSX Lion 10.7.2 chances are slim that an older OSX version will work.

Note the date and time the problem occurred, then go to Applications/Utilities/Console and copy the log starting at the time of the crash. Paste the log in a reply. Please do not use a screen shot as they can be hard to read. If there are repeated runs of the same messages, please post only one run. Be selective about what you post and don’t post huge amounts. I have created the partition running Mac OS X lion, rebooted the system with option (or C) key and my macbook crashes and shows a sign saying 'you need to switch of the computer, hold down the .... and restart' and I am not able to install snow leopar in my new partition.

Thank you for your answer. My macbook pro cames with snow leopard, however, I bought lion and completely formated it to install lion. Now, I need to run snow leopard in orden to run some rosetta applicastions such as No Machine. The new version of now machine runs in lion but does not allow me to connect to the server (it runs older version of no machine). That's why I need to create a partition to install snow leopard and run older version of no machine remote desktop software.

Installing Snow Leopard on New Internal SSD (without External drive)

All,
I have been searching and searching for a sufficient answer for this question, but have come up short thusfar. So any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.
Basically I have an early 2009 MacBook Air (RevB) with a 128 GB HDD (not SSD). It has been painfully slow the past few months, and with the move to SSD for the new Air's - I've decided to swap my older HD for a new 64GB RunCore SSD (using the online guide from iFixit). However, as the MacBook Air inherently has no DVD drive - and the new HD will completely blank and not allow for the DVD Sharing to take place, I'm a bit stuck.
Here's where the complication sets in - I do not have (and would really rather not purchase) an external Superdrive or external DVD drive just for this one process. However, I do have a MacBook Pro that I would like to use to install Snow Leopard onto the new blank internal SSD.
Finally, I would also like to install Snow Leopard cleanly (i.e. not cloning my existing MacBook Air HD first).
Therefore, my BIG question (in three parts is:
1) Can I install Snow Leopard onto the new internal SSD before I install the new SSD itself into the MacBook Air (i.e. the new internal SSD comes with an external enclosure to presumably allow for cloning prior to installation). Therefore, can I just install Snow Leopard from my MBP's Superdrive to the new SSD using the new SSD + Enclosure as an external HD?
2) When complete, and then installed in the MacBook Air, will the new internal SSD boot correctly?
3) Finally what formats should I go for (GUID, Journalled, etc.) - or is that not really applicable in this case?
Hopefully that all makes sense...?

Okay just copied this from a tutorial on how to do it.
*OSX 10.6 method for bootable USB key install*
Insert your retail DVD into drive.
Plug in usb key. I recommend getting at least a 16gig drive so you don’t run into capacity issues.
Open Disk Utitlity. Locatied in Applocations/Utitilties/DiskUtitily.app
Partition the USB drive and select GUID in the options so it will be bootable on a Mac.
Select restore and drag the image of the DVD on the left into the input path.
Drag the USB drive into the destination drive.
Click the restore button.
Sit back and relax cause you will be waiting for about 20-30 mins for the key to be formatted properly.

Lion installed on a MacBook Pro without problems. I created a partition in Lion for Snow Leopard. Using original MacBook Pro installation disk, started to install, but I quit when I was not sure whether the install would overwrite Lion or give me an opportunity to install in the partition. It had not yet asked me where I wanted to install. As I continue, will it ask me where I want to install Snow Leopard, or will it simply reinstall Snow Leopard eliminating Lion?

I have had a very different experience but the one difference is that am using a Snow leopard install disc rather than the disk that came with the computer. Also the only way i knew how to partition the disc on my computer was to boot off a old back up and use disk utility on it.
1. Snow leopard install disk straight in to lion = Disk comes up saying it can not be used with this version of OSX
2. Used a Snow leopard backup drive as the boot disk, inserted disk and pointed install to the Partition I made for it. = Install starts until the Reboot then Kernel errors and a DOS type screen sating it can not find a OSX version.
3. Tried to Carbon copy my Snow leopard back up drive to the partition = The same Kernel error when I try and reboot on the new snow leopard partition.
4. Went to Google, found a article saying that the OSX Lion Recovery partition can cause havoc not allowing you to install from a disk. Answer was to make your mac boot in firewire mode whilst using another mac to run the install disk and direct it to the correct partition this was tested on a mini mac server with two hard drives in it no on a single drive with a partition. I am currently trying this but when the disk restarted the machine it just sits on the Grey apple and has done for the last 30 mins yet i had this before and apparently its the computer scanning all the different disks connected I am hoping the install will finally restart :-s ???
I am out of ideas.

Downgrade Lion/Mountain Lion to Snow Leopard
1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer
      loads select your language and click on the Continue
      button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the
      Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the
      mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status
      of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then
      the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART
      info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on
      the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions
      from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS
      Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the
      partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on
      the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions. If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.
