Installing software license for ipod that I am giving as a gift

I have purchased an ipod classic as a gift, however before giving the ipod as a present I want to load it up with songs from my itunes. When I connect the new ipod to my computer I am asked to agree to the software license.
If I accept the software license for this ipod on my computer will the person receiving this ipod as a gift be able to then use the ipod and get software updates on their computer?
Many thanks

Accepting the software license will not effect the usability of the iPod for the person you are giving it to (or any future owner).
If you load your songs, they will be erased if the person receiving the iPod syncs the iPod with his or her own iTunes music library. It would be best to give the iPod unopened and let the new owner load his or her own songs. If someone gave me an iPod, I'd like it if I was the first person to touch it.

  • Can't install iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod touch

I am trying to download the iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod touch from http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/whatsnew.html so I can download apps for my new iPod touch. (Although it is pretty bogus that I should have to pay $10 for an upgrade on a brand new device so that I have the privilege to buy apps). I have iTunes 7.7 already installed.
When I click on the link https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/touchLandingPage , I do not get a download, and iTunes does not open. Nothing happens if I open iTunes before trying this link either.
Instead, I get a brief page which says "One Momemt Please". Connecting to the iTunes Store. Loading... If iTunes doen't open, click the iTunes application in your Doc or Windows Task Bar" , then my browser is redirected to http://www.apple.com/itunes/affiliates/download/?itmsUrl=itmss%3A%2F%2Fphobos.ap ple.com%2FWebObjects%2FMZFinance.woa%2Fwa%2FtouchLandingPage%3Fign-mscache%3D1 which tells me to download iTunes... but I already have iTunes installed.
I installed (then uninstalled, reinstalled) the latest iTunes (7.7.0.43) and the problem persists. iTunes works fine for all other uses.
I have the problem with both Firefox (3.0) and Internet Explorer (6)
How can I download and install The iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod touch directly from iTunes? I cannot find it when I search for it. It is not listed in the App store.
(P.S. The web support form does not work when I tried to fill out a problem report for "Connection" issues. Although I filled in all form fields, it would not send the report, telling me I did not fill in a field.)

The upgrade now appears directly in iTunes, so I do not need to access it from the web page. I see many others are encountering problems installing the upgrade, so I'll see how it goes...
There is no answer to the initial problem that iTunes install does not configure the browsers to handle the itmss:// protocol.
I still think Apple should not charge for this for a brand new iPod purchased just this week.

Hello, I hope by now you have resolved the upgrade issue, but if not, here is what I ended up having to do:
“SUCCESS!!! I took my iPod to a friend who is a computer programmer/genius. He turned off his wireless, hooked the ethernet cable directly into his computer, and the download went through without a hitch. YAY!”
Here is my original post explaining what I had already tried:
    “Hi all,
I got an iPod Touch 1st gen for my youngest son for Christmas as a starter. It has the 2.1.2 ios on it, but after I paid for the upgrade to 3.1.1, I keep getting an error message (8288) saying there was a problem with the network connection. I have called customer service, and they suggested I try on a different computer, and if that didn't work, try connecting to a different network, and then trying the update. None of this has worked. It seems that tech support is clueless with this issue.
I have installed and unistalled iTunes 10.5, 10.3, 10.4, and now I am back with 10.5. I have tried looking up the issue from several search engines but no one seems to have a universal solution and I have tried several.
I really want to have this thing updated for himw hwne he opens it, but I am starting to worry that my purchase was a bust. I know this is the oldest version, but I don't want to buy a newer, more expensive iPod and him still not be mature enough to really take care of it. As I said, this one is a starter.
    Can anyone help? Please?!
    Thank you!!!
P.S. We have a PC, with Windows XP Home.”
Now, there seem to be a lot of different ways to solve the 8288 error, none of which are universal. Best of luck getting yours upgraded!

P.S. The post by Sparkhi is a link to his blog going into a long story about how he wanted Apple to pay him for “solving” the issue….the one that apparently has been solved by multiple solutions. I’m not trying to bash, it just bothers me that he put up this whole story and finally, at the very end of his blog post, posts his solution.

    Hi Samson,
Based on my research, we need to choose associated KMS key based on the highest product being deployed in the product grouping hierarchy.
To choose the right Volume License key, please refer to this article:
How to Choose the Right Volume License Key for Windows
Please type the cmd "slmgr /dlv" on KMS Host and check if it has been activated successfully.
After configure KMS host, By default these KMS client computers will query DNS and locate your KMS host and activate
    KMS Client Setup Keys
To reset computers to be KMS clients type the following at elevated command prompt:
    Slmgr.vbs /ipk xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx
Where xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx is the generic VL key from the following link.

  • HT4461 Hello I have just installed my license for OS v 10.6.3 and installed the upgrades on a new hard drive. I would like to upgrade to my license for Lion. How do I do this (through the Apple Store I guess). Cheers

Hello, I have just installed my license for Mac OS v 10.6.3 and installed updates including security updates.
I have a licence for Lion that is sitting on Apples computer somewhere.
How do I access my account and install Lion on my machine?
Beyond that I want to upgrade to Maverick but given I work out the first step upgrading to Maverick should be easy.
    Thanks, Julian R A

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
OS X Lion could be purchased from the Mac App Store (and now, at the Apple Online Store). Once you purchase it, you can download it as many times as you want for free.
Open  > Software Update, and install the most recent Mac OS X version. It should be Mac OS X 10.6.6 or newer. Then, open the Mac App Store, go to Purchases, log in with your Apple ID and download OS X Lion. Make a backup before upgrading and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com
You can upgrade to OS X Mavericks from Mac OS X 10.6.6 or newer without any problem, so upgrading to OS X Lion first is a waste of time. Open the Mac App Store and download OS X Mavericks

  • New software update for iPod touch 4th generation? PLEASE HELP!!

Ok so here is the problem: I have the iPod touch 4th generation with software version 4.3 (I have had my iPod for about 7 months) and recently within the past week or so I have started experiencing multiple crashes with many different various apps and games. Just random games crashing and then I noticed it happening with the Facebook app and even Safari on my iPod! I had to get off of my iPod and come on the computer to type this message out because Safari would crash every single time I tried to type this on my iPod! So at first I figured it was the apps and games' problems, but then as more and more began to crash, like Facebook and Safari, I figured it is the Apple software version 4.3 acting up. So I was wondering, is Apple working on a new software update for iPod touch 4th gen.? Or is this a rare problem? Is there anyone out there having this same problem? Or anyone at all that can PLEASE help me?! MANY THANKS!
    - Sam Amos

No one would know what Apple is working on, unless they announce, which they very rarely do.
Have you tried the basics from the manual?
    restart.
    reset.
    restore.

  • Installing J2ee license for a DR site HW key

As you are probably aware, you can install multiple licenses in an ABAP system so that you can have your primary, and High Availablility servers HW/KEY and license installed in the system.  You can also get a license for a Disaster Recovery site and put that in the ABAP system so that the license is there for DR testing and / or real DR situration.
Does anyone know how to do that with the NW 701 java stacks?  I know how to install a license from a file in the license adapter service, but it only seems to let you install licenses that match your current HW key.  For HA, you can failover and install the key, then you have both installed.  But that is a problem for DR, we hope to only got the DR site for tests.  We do not actually want to failover to the DR site and fail back for real.  So during the DR test it is possible to install the license for DR at the DR server, but I would like to add that license to the prod server so it is there already for the next test.
Is there a way to add a java license for a HW key that does not match your current HW key?
As an fyi, we are doing DR with AIX Oracle using block level SAN replication with write order fidelity.
    Thanks, Pat

    Hi,
You need to install the license after switchover to DR site. For Java engine, you have to clearly document the steps, which you need to perform after moving to DR site, so that you won't waste much time in bringing back the system to DC.

These are user to user forums. Apple does not participate here and does not respond to posts. For the record, since the iPad 2 supports iOS 8 any attempt to update the iPad 2 will result in an update to 8.1. Apple only supports updating to the latest version of the operating system that the device supports.
