Installing Software on Intel based Mac Laptop

Hi
Just to clarify.....
Can I install a PC program on my 'partitioned' Windows Hardrive?
I wanted to be able to run a PC program: 3D Max 8 and do some work on a 3D grphic. I was unable to open this graphic file on my Mac as (created in 3D Max). I tried Adobe After FX 6 but it wouldn't open the file either.
So, I thought the solution would be to install 3D max application on the Windows side of my computer. Am I mistaken in my assumption that this is possible?
If it is, how do I do it? The installer is in the Shared folder on the Mac partition.
Cheers

Thanks.....I will try that.
Don't have Boot Camp. Will check it out.
One more thing......I shut down the computer while it was in Windows. Now I want to boot up on the Mac side. Whats the Keyboard shortcut for this? Don't have the install CD with me.
I can't believe this! I should have gone back to the Mac side before I shut down.
Cheers

  • Parallels Software on Intel Based Mac Book

    Hello,
I have a customer who just bought Parallels Software with Win XP and can't seem to find the Device Drivers for the Mac Book display, and mouse for right clicking when setting it up. I remember in Virtual PC you were able to drag documents from Mac to PC without any problem. Doesn't seem to work in this case. Any ideas?

Device drivers and mouse drivers I'm not sure of, and I'm not sure why they would be needed - Windows XP Pro on my MBP just works, including all needed screen settings in the Control Panel and right-clicking with my Turbo Mouse. But I easily might be missing something in what your customer needs...

Parallels Tools, when installed, enables a shared folder.

  • Can OSX 10.4 be installed on an itel based mac?

Have a set of special order OSX 10.4 CD install disks that I'm selling and a buyer asked if they could be used to install on a intel based mac. Does anyone either know the answer or have some experience with this situation?

Without knowing what model the Intel Mac is and what OS it shipped with, we can't say if it will be able to use a retail OS X 10.4.x DVD.
Certainly the earliest Intel iMacs shipped with Tiger, 10.4.4, then 10.4.6 after a short period, so I would say the owner probably needs to find his/her origiinal discs or ask Apple for replacements.

can i install an entire Xp in my intel based mac mini?
    no boot camp.
how to do that if impossible?

    Hi Matthew!
Boot Camp will be the closest you'll come to your goal. A Mac is afterall intended to run Mac OS software first and foremost and Windows is only a secondary OS. But it is possible to boot into Windows after using Boot Camp to get it installed and then delete the Mac partition. You can always reinstall the Mac OS later.
Or you can still use Boot Camp to get Windows installed and just never boot back into Mac OS X (leaving it on its own partition). But why have Apple hardware just to do that? You'd be better off selling your Mac Mini and purchasing an Intel machine that will run Windows natively.
    Hope this helps! bill

Your MacBook Air is an Intel-based system. To download the current version (11.2.202.228),  go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and download it from there.
If there is still a Flash issue, you can try the Google Chrome browser, which has the current Flash built into it, to see if it works any differently with the videos. It's available from https://www.google.com/chrome

  • Installing Leopard onto a Non Intel based Mac

My friend just bought a new intel based Mac Pro with Leopard. It came with the install discs. Is it possible to take those discs and install them onto a computer that is a Dual 1.8 GHZ Mac that does not have an intel processor?
    Thanks in Advance

no, it's not possible. It's also against ULA but in this case it won't matter because this will not work anyway.
You need to buy a retail version of Leopard to install it on your Mac.

  • Is there any workaround at all to run PM7 on a Intel-based Mac?

    Dear friends:
I have recently purchased a MacBook Pro and, before I did, I asked some questions to Apple about the possibility of having the software pre-installed, specifically, BootCamp and Classic, receiving the computer with a partition already made and requirements of the sort. Basically, Technical Support told me that they were not able to perform any of these tasks, although the person I have spoken to said to me that I could run PageMaker (I think he mentioned an update). After a couple of days researching, it appears that I have been misinformed. Unfortunately I have several hundreds of PageMaker files in archive, and I cannot afford to lose the ability to open them directly (I am a radical InDesign fan, I have used it since v.1.0). Does anybody know any workaround at all to run PageMaker 7 on a Intel-based Mac? Maybe some software to emulate the Classic? Maybe an upgrade or a third-party application? I cannot believe that MacOS supports Windows (in fact, I have installed Windows Vista) better than its predecessor Mac OS 9.2.2.
Thanks a lot for your time,
    Eduardo Guarniz

    >Does anybody know any workaround at all to run PageMaker 7 on a Intel-based Mac?
Well there are two ways. the best way is to have an old machine that boots OS9. If you don't have one, buy one. I found one for about $69 a few years ago I'm sure they are even cheaper now.
There is some software called SheepShaver its supposed to run Classic apps on a Mactel. With all the problems of running PM in Classic (I would never use PM for production in Classic) Its probably even worse running on SheepShaver.
Be smart get the old machine.

  • Creative Suite 2 installation freezes Intel-based Mac

When you install Creative Suite 2 on an Intel-based Mac with the QuickTime 7.1 update installed, your Mac freezes.
Apple has now posted the QuickTime 7.1.1 update which resolves the freeze. Boot into Safe Boot mode by holding down the Shift key when restarting the Mac, then select Software Updates from the Apple menu and download and install QuickTime 7.1.1.
Reboot into normal mode and install the Creative Suite.

  • Are Intel based Macs more prone to Viruses than PPC based Macs?

I do not now, nor have I ever run A-V software. Nor have I ever had an issue with any kind of viruses, malware, spyware etc. However, I read an article in our local newspaper recently that even Macs, particularly Intel based Macs, are vulnerable to viruses. So, as a newcomer to the world of Intel Macs, the question suddenly takes on new significance and urgency. I do plan to run Windows on my MBP (as soon as I get the computer and set it up), and will likely use an emulator like VirtualBox. I have run VPC on my Pismo for years, and viruses have never been an issue, albeit I used Windows only for short periods at a time. So, is this a legitimate concern? What specific measures do I need to take, if it is, indeed, a concern?

As TD states, your Windows installation running as a virtual machine is as vulnerable as any Windows PC. If you won't be accessing email, and limit your web browsing, you'll be somewhat safer - but, I'd definitely recommend running AV software even so. There is quite a bit of malware/spyware that will install itself upon visiting some websites, and it can be easier than you think to run into one of those sites (for example, accidentally leaving out a 'p' when typing apple.com into a browser address bar redirects you to another site - 2sale.com; that one seems innocuous, but that's not always the case).
Note that VMware comes with a free 12-month subscription to McAfee VirusScan® Plus, so for the time being there's no need to purchase additional AV software, just make sure you keep McAfee running and up to date.
On the up side, if your virtual machine does become infected, the problems will remain confined to the virtual machine. Should you need to, you can roll back to a previous snapshot, or, if you set it up as a virtual disk virtual machine (i.e. VWware is not accessing a Boot Camp partition, but rather the virtual machine is stored as a file in the Mac OS), then the virtual machine is backed up along with your other files as part of your routine backup strategy.

  • CFMX on Intel based Mac, MacBook Pro, iMac

As of yet, I still haven't been able to get this to work,
although other's have had success, and other's such as myself are
struggling with getting the JRun4 and getting it to use the correct
    version of Java.
Anyway, maybe these links will help someone else, and
hopefully Macromedia/Adobe will come out with a version of CFMX
soon that will run natively on an Intel based Mac using it's own
    server.
Maybe people can post below whether or not they have been
able to get this to work.

I'll post later everything I've tried and at what point the
installation has failed. For the most part, JRun4 is unable to
create the Java Virtual Machine, and when I've tried to run the
shell commands referenced, nothing happens, or when I try to change
the default Java config, it doesn't seem to do any good.
Guess I'll be waiting for the next release, which I hope will
run natively on this plateform. In the meantime I hope this helps
    someone else get it going.

Here is the info. on MAC OS X. You will need to look for 3rd party options.
Palm Desktop and HotSync Manager are not compatible with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. Palm currently has no plans to release future versions of Palm Desktop and HotSync Manager for Palm OS. Customers do have options with third-party solutions such as The Missing Sync for Palm OS from Mark/Space.

  • Error "You can't open... ...on an Intel-based Mac."

    Hi.
On the System Preferences app. When I try to open Mail, Contacts & Calendars (preference pane), it gives me the following error:
    "Preferences Error
You can’t open Mail, Contacts & Calendars preferences because it doesn’t work on an Intel-based Mac."
I already re-installed OSX Mountain Lion, and it didn't fix anything.
I noticed however, that the actual preferences file: InternetAccounts.prefPane has different permissions than the rest of the .prefPane files.
    - All other .prefPane files have "System" as the first user, however, my InternetAccounts.prefPane file has "Me" (myself) as the main user, and not the System user.
    Question:
    A. Does someone have a solution for the problem in general?
    B. Can someone check their InternetAccounts.prefPane file and let me know the preferences. The file is located at: System/Library/PreferencePanes/InternetAccounts.prefPane
    C. If, your InternetAccounts.prefPane file has System as the first, or any user, can someone let me know how to set System as a user? Hopefull this will fix the problem.
    Thanks to anyone trying.

  • Is there a way to view Windows Media Files on the Intel based Mac's?

I tried downloding WMP for Mac and also Flip4Mac but I could not install either because it said the programs don't support Intel based Mac's. I thought they would automatically run under Rosetta. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Think I ran into the same issue. I suspect MS will
have to upgrade MP to Universal Binary before it
works correctly. I'm not holding my breath....
That's good because Microsoft has discontinued all support for WMP on OS X. They recommend you download Flip4Mac instead.

  • Virtual PC not compitable for intel-based Mac?

I saw that on the Mactopia website. I just bought a new Macbook with 1GB Ram and 80 GB Harddrive. I think that it is intel based and I am planning to purchase a copy of Virtual PC 7 but then i went to Mactopia and read: "Note: Virtual PC does not run on Intel-based Macs." on this page of Mactopia
    http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/virtualpc/virtualpc.aspx?pid=virtualpc
is this true? if it is then of course i won't go through the hassel of buying and returning. Please give me an answer, Thanks!

Bootcamp is a program here on the Apple site that they made to allow you to install windows on your intel mac. It adds a windows partition to your drive and helps you burn a windows driver CD that has to be installed after windows is installed. To install windows xp you must have a windows XP disk with SP2 on it. It does not take long and does not hurt your apple install. Just do a search on this site and it will take you to the page you need.
