Installing software without disk

I am a new Mac user and need to know how to install once I have downloaded software? Where do I go to install once downloaded?

Hello Henderv, welcome to Macintosh.
Open the Macintosh HD icon on your Desktop. Inside is a folder called Applications. That's where you should put all the programs you download.
Most downloaded software comes in a disk image format. Double click the downloaded .dmg file, and a virtual "disk" should appear on your Desktop. Open the "disk", and you will see one of two things: A application (also called a "program"), or an application installer. If it is the actual application, just drag it from there to the /Applications folder in your hard drive. If it's an installer program, double click it and follow the instructions. The program will be installed for you.
After that's done, you can "eject" the mounted disk image (drag the disk icon to the trash), and then you can delete the downloaded .dmg file (drag it to the trash.)

  • Installing software without disk drive

Hi everyone, I've just bought a new laptop and I'm trying to install creative suite 5.5 design premium and acrobat 9 pro extended but I only have them on disk. Can I download them from somewhere and put in my license information?

Download the CS5.5 trial from http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cs5-5-direct-download-links.html
Download the Acrobat 9 Pro (Windows only) trial from http://prodesigntools.com/all-adobe-cs5-direct-download-links.html
Ensure that you follow the Very Important Instructions on those pages before you click the download links otherwise the links will not work.
Launch the Trials then enter your serial number to license them..

how to install software from disk onto imac

Are you using one of the newer iMac's with no DVD drive? If so, you can either get an external CD/DVD drive (any make - doesn't have to be Apple) or, if you have another Mac on the same network that has a CD/DVD drive you may be able to do it by turning on 'DVD or CD Sharing' on that Mac (System Preferences>Sharing). Hopefully you'll see the disk on the Mac without the DVD drive and be able to install from there.

  • Cant install software from disk. Terminal window opens with a logon and bash message?

I cannot install software from disk & in some cases download.
If any software disk is inserted the terminal window appears.
The Disk has to be clicked to open the contents but install files or package files show as a blank doc and not the usual yellow package icon.
All that shows is a log on message in the terminal window, but nothing about install.
I thought Drive issues but the drive plays audio and DVD perfect
    I cannot install:-
    Office for mac updates
Live Interior 3D (managed to install from download)
    ION Audio Converter
This has only come to my attention in the last couple of weeks.
The machine is a late 2011 with Lion installed

Contact Apple Service, iMac Service or Apple's Express Lane. Do note that if you have AppleCare's protection plan and you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you're eligible for onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine.

  • How to re-install software without resetting router

I have laptop with Windows 7 which had my account management software for my Linksys E1000 v2 installed on it.  Major issues with the laptop required that the computer be wiped and the OS installed.  I am able to connect to the internet through my wireless router based on the router name and password I had previoiusly set up.  However, now I don't have the sofware on my computer to manage that account...to confirgure the settings, change the password etc.
Is there a way to re-install the software without resetting my router information?  I tried running the installation CD but that fails with the notice that my router cannot be found (even though I am literally connected to it).
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

It could be that the software won't connect to the router because you may have changed the administration username and password.  You would therefore need to reset the router to factory settings.
You can access the router's settings directly without the need for the Cisco software and having to reset the router..
Just open up your browser and navigate to 192.168.1.1.
Assuming that you haven't changed them, the username will be "admin" and no password (leave blank).  All of your router's settings will be available through the interface.

  • How can I install software without Classic environment?

I've got a huge problem. My Powerbook hard drive failed and no data can be recovered. So, because I needed a new computer, I just got the new iMac intel. But here's why I'm freaking out. I've got a lot of software (like Quark Xpress 6 and Addobe Acrobat 6.0) that are all upgrades to previous versions. But since the new iMacs don't run Classic environment, I can't install the older versions of software so I can install my upgrades. What on Earth do I do? I'm a graphic designer - so I HAVE to have Quark on this new machine.
I have a lot of software in Windows format. I keep reading different things that say I can boot Windows on my new iMac. Does this mean there is a way for me to install software that runs on a PowerPC on my new iMac? If so, how do I do that?
I need all the help I can get with this one. I tried contacting Apple and did a chat with an Apple agent that got me nowhere. All I know is that I cannot afford to buy the full versions of software right after buying this new machine. HELP!!!!!!!

    Congratulations on your new iMac.
Quark can be reinstalled by inserting the upgrader disk and double clicking the Quark upgrader icon. A dialog box opens that asks "In order to begin upgrading your current version of QuarkXPress you will be asked to locate the directory". At this point, while holding down the "Option" key, click the "ok" button. The install should go smoothly from there.
In regards to Acrobat, any older version requiring classic will not run on your new intel iMac. However, if you've already purchased an upgrade, i believe there is an option of opting to enter your old serial number, rather than pointing the installer to a previous installation when installing the upgrade.

  • How do I install software from disk on Macbook Air?

I have an external CD player but the Macbook Air doesn't seem to recognise it. So how do I get my software from disk onto my Macbook?

I did not get the "This document is not recognised do you want to choose an application to open it with" error message.  It's just that it is not recognizing any content at all on the CD in Finder.  I have used this external CD drive before with this Macbook.  I also tried to open the docs through Word and it again showed that a CD was in "Devices" as a "Remote Disc" but does not recognize any of the docs on the CD.

  • Can't install software on disk for unkown reason?

I'm trying to install QuickTime Broadcaster. When the installer gets to the "Select Destination" part, it shows my HD with an exclamation point in a red octagon, and I get the error message:
You cannot install QuickTime Broadcaster 1.5.1 on this volume. You are not allowed to install the software on this disk for an unknown reason.
Does anyone know how to fix this? I believe I meet the system requirements. I also just tried installing something else and didn't get this error message. I only get it with this QuickTime Broadcaster installer. I also repaired my permissions, but that didn't help.
    thanks
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I don't know. It installed without any problem on my G4, 450 MP. I suggest booting with your Tiger install disk, enter your language, and, when the menu bar pops up, select Utilities->Disk Utility, repairing permissions and the disk. If it passes, then quit, Utilities->Startup Disk, select your HD, and restart. If it still won't install, then create a new admin user, log into that account, and try again. Still no go, reinstall the 10.4.8 COMBO update and try again. If still no go, do an Archive & Install installation.

  • New HDD, trying to install Lion without disk utility or a mac (HELP!!!!!!!)

    Hello everyone,
Here follows my situation: my previous and precious hard drive died a few months back inside my macbook pro. I bought a brand new one and am trying very hard to find a way to install the os lion on it but I cannot seem to find any plausible way or answers for people stuck only with a Windows pc to do this work.
It is fair to mention that I no longer have my old installation DVD`s from Apple, although, I have the os dmg file to work with, an external hdd 1tb, dvd-rw´s, the lot.
Did use a software called Transmac but it would just somehow, not cut it for me, neither trial nor full version. My External WD hard drive is fully formatted into HFS+ by the way.
Also tried two virtual machines in order to use os lion on my Windows 7 and do the farly simple trick with disk utility itself, but those will not work for unfortunate people like me that are using AMD processors, once again, back to the drawing board.
Would any of you guys know a way around this?
Heard we could convert the dmg into iso and burn it using Nero and making it still bootable on Macbooks. Nevertheless, I have tried this option with two different combinations and it will still not boot.
If anyone could just light up my way I would appreciate it very much.

Thank you so much for your input here guys!
I've manage to do it using the same software I was blaming here on the post: Transmac!
So if you find yourself having the same trouble; persist!!!
Use macdrive 8 or later on windows 7 (or other windows OS if it works for you) and format the whole external hard drive or usb stick to htf+, unfortunatelly I could not find a way to format only a smaller partition on there.
Them go to Transmac, you need to have the full version in order for it to work and run as admin, the DMG file will them be expanded, in my case OS Lion was 3.50 roughly and expanded to 3.88.
Choose "format with image" (something like that, correct me if I am wrong, there should be only two options for it anyway) confirm all the following options and wait for it to do its trick.
Should anything go wrong with the writting procedure, go back and look into the small details one more time, two, three if needed.
I can safely say that this is the easiest method I have came across to create a bootable external drive for mac using Windows given the keys I had to work with.
    Best of luck!

  • Re-installing Chess without disks

A client recently deleted the Chess application from his operating system (OS 10.3.9) and wants it back, but can't find his system disks. I have a copy of Panther (10.3.7) on 3 .ISO disk images but upon browsing them in Pacifist I can't find Chess anywhere on them. Short of re-installing the whole system, I'd like to find the Chess package on my disk images--but where should they be? Are they invisible? If that doesn't work, where could I find a download of that application? Any suggestions?
    MacBook Pro 2.0/2GB/100GB   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   also own Powerbook G4 1.67/1GB/100GB

    Toolshed4:
"Disproportionate" is a good way to describe it. It would have been far more proportionate to purchase a set of Panther disks. He probably had his eye on a new computer anyway. Hope his doesn't lose chess and his install disks at the same time again. It could be expensive. Thanks for posting back.
    Good luck.

  • Installing software without consent

    Hi,
I just wanted Flash. Not Mcafee. If I wanted Mcafee I would either pluck my eyeballs out or perhaps actually go to THEIR website.
I won't be buying any of your products soon as you just tricked me into installing McAfee when reinstalling flash.
This does solve a mystery though, I now know how my Mum's computer got the damn thing on it too, which totally confused her.
This kind of practice is pure evil. Hiding away behind an opt-out link on the actual download page, not the installer, is pure evil.
I had previously been defending your player and runtimes on forums like Hacker News, I will now gleefully join in the 'Die Adobe' chorus.
Given you're going the way of Sun Microsystem, goodbye, I hope you die quick.
    Thanks,
    Matt

And given that you can't even use simple forum software it just goes on to underline your total and utter incompetence.
