Installing special font in one accessable location
I have used spedific font within a report and now in order to put his report in production, I have to install this special fonts in every machine for the user to print. Is there any better way to install font in one location and be able to access them by any user? Any direction or suggestions would be of great help.
Hi Zuber
If you are using Reports 9i, you can use new features in PDF output to workaround this issue.
Use Font Subsetting/Font Embedding features that comes with Reports 9i. If you generate PDF file using these features, Reports will embed the font file into the PDF file. Thus the PDF file becomes protable. Wherever you take this PDF file, you do not need to install the font in that machine as Acrobat can always retrieve the font file from within the PDF file itself to render the characters. Of course, you get the same output on the Printer as well.
For more information on these features, refer Reports Help on OTN.

Can't install i tunes can't access location %APPDATA%
The install gets to computing space requirments then fails and gives could not access %APPDATA%\.
That suggests either a problem with the drive that your useraccount files are stored on, or a permissions problem.
Try running a disk check over the drive your "Users" folder is stored on. Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

Does the disk check find/repair any problems? If so, does an iTunes install go through properly afterwards? -

We have a file that contains font definitions that get loaded to the printer.
These show on our PCL font list as "permanent soft fonts",
and we access them by their font id number. If we just use the fonts that we loaded,
our print step ( print layout/etc) is ok. If we try to access a font that exists
on the printer, say Arial, which has both an escape sequence and an
"internal xx" number, our print layout (grid), gets shifted to the right.
We access the Arial font by :
esc%12345X and then the escape sequence for Arial font
1. is there a way to refer to Arial ( or other printer default font )
while still in PCL mode using our loaded fonts ( by font id ) ?
2. should we add Arial to our font load file ?
if yes, how do we do that ?
any help is appreciated, thank youA friendly soul on ubuntuforums pointed out to me, that the wireless configuration is only necessary when the printer is NOT connected to a (W)LAN. So all I really had to do was to configure the printer in the CUPS administation page, and it worked. Problem solved. Silly me.

How to install new fonts using code in java?
Hi,
How to install font in a system using java, provided i know the font file's address. Is there any specific class/method available for this purpose? Copying the file to windows/font directory will work for windows, but I think it wont be generic to all operating system. So is there anyway to install a font using code?
I also want to know how to make the font available only until my application window is open, It must be available to all other external applications like photoshop, word etc., When I close my window it must un-install automatically or be made not available to other applications. Any suggestions? Please do help! Thanks in advance...I have already tried the above, But the font created using input stream is available only to my application* and is not viewable in photoshop.*. I realize this. Like I said, I know of no method that will register/deregister the font with the system. You'll have to create your own method that takes the operating system into account.
String os = System.getPropery("os.name");
if(os.equals("Windows Vista")) {
}else if(os.equals("Windows XP")) {
}else if(os.equals("Windows NT")) {
}else if(os.equals("Solaris")) {
AIX
Digital Unix
FreeBSD
HP UX

Linux
Mac OS
Mac OS X
MPE/iX
Netware 4.11
OS/2
Solaris
Windows 2000
Windows 95
Windows 98
Windows NT
Windows Vista
Windows XPYou'll need the standard font directory for each system. I think all the window ones are C:\Windows\Font\ . Each OS probably has its own little quark (like having several font directories or throwing different security exceptions). Undoubtly it's going to require some research and a bit of trial and error. You can probably work some magic with Runtime.exec(...) as well.
The alternative would be to google for some libraries that offer similar functionality, or promt the user for the system's font directory and save the location of the directory in a file somewhere for future use (so the user dosen't have to specify the font directory everytime he/she starts up the application). -
[Solved, install dejavu font] Libre Office fonts are rendered as boxes
Been a while since I've posted and thank you in advance for any help offered.
My issue is pretty straight forward: all my menus and fonts in Libre Office Writer show up as boxes instead of letters. I have searched the wiki and forums for a solution but most people who have this problem fix the issue by installing the right language pack.
As you can see below that isn't my issue:
local/libreoffice-common 4.1.4-3 (libreoffice)
common files for LibreOffice - a productivity suite that is compatible with other major office suites
local/libreoffice-en-US 4.1.4-3
English (US) language pack for LibreOffice
local/libreoffice-writer 4.1.4-3 (libreoffice)
Word Processor Application for LibreOffice.
I have no plug-ins installed apart from hunspell, mythes and hyphenation. I removed these packages but there was no change.
This machine is a Dell laptop with the Intel video chip and thus I have the correct driver installed and everything else works fine:
:root: ~ : pacman -Qs intel
local/intel-dri 10.0.2-1
Mesa drivers for Intel
local/xf86-video-intel 2.99.907-2 (xorg-drivers xorg)
X.org Intel i810/i830/i915/945G/G965+ video drivers
I tried nuking my Libre Office directory in my home directory but that yielded no change. My .gtk-* directories don't contain anything specific to LO.
These are the only fonts I've added to this install (thanks boohoomil) and are not customised in any way:
local/cairo-infinality-ultimate 1.12.16-3 (infinality-bundle)
Cairo vector graphics library with respect-fontconfig, expose and Ubuntu patches (infinality-bundle)
local/fontconfig-infinality-ultimate 2.11.0-15 (infinality-bundle)
A library for configuring and customizing font access (includes generic fontconfig package and ultimate settings by bohoomil).
local/freetype2-infinality-ultimate 2.5.2-3 (infinality-bundle)
TrueType font rendering library with Infinality patches and custom settings by bohoomil (infinality-bundle).
I have gone so far as to try snapwm and Xfce4 but there is no difference in the font rendering in LO.
I'm stymied about this because I have used this setup previously on this and two other machines. Any ideas?
MS
Last edited by MoonSwan (2014-02-03 04:54:16)I thought of that but, as I use the infinality-bundle, which fonts do I need to test this hypothesis? Or can you suggest one I can install from the official repos?
[edit] Just after posting this I remembered that LO, as noted on the wiki somewhere, suggest one install the ttf-dejavu font. After installing this font everything is now showing correctly.
@nomorewindows, Thank you very much! I feel a bit silly but I learned something from this and for that I grateful to you.

On the wiki, there appears to be two ways to install MS Fonts.
Option 1 -- Install the ttf-ms-fonts package
(see Wiki entry http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fonts)
Option 2 - Download and install a tarball
(see http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/MS_Fonts)
The accuracy of the info for Option 2 is disputed.
The commands suggested to be used for option 2 are:
# tar zxvf msfonts-1.2.1.tar.gz
# cp -a msfonts-1.2.1/main /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/ms
# cd /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/ms
# ttmkfdir >fonts.scale
# mkfontdir
# fc-cache -v
Hmm.. I thought ttmkdir is deprecated and no longer used with the newer versions of X... (See font FAQ on Wiki where it states:
"The "mkfontdir" and "mkfontscale" utilities should be used on Xfree86 4.3.0 based setups while on older ones (4.2.x) "ttmkfdir" should be considered. I've noticed that "ttmkfdir" and "mkfontdir" do not produce the exact same files"
What is the easiest way to install MS fonts? Just use ttf-ms-fonts package?
How should I install other TTF fonts from my WIndows partition? Just copy them over to my Linux font dir and run #mkfontdir and #fc-cache -v?
RobHere's the install script for the ttf-ms-fonts package, if that helps:
# arg 1: the new package version
post_install() {
echo -n "extracting fonts... "
for font in tmp/ttf-ms-fonts/*.exe
do
cabextract --lowercase --directory=tmp/ttf-ms-fonts/ $font >/dev/null 2>&1
done
mkdir -p usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF

for i in `/bin/ls tmp/ttf-ms-fonts/*.ttf`; do
echo `basename $i` >>usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/msfonts.txt
cp $i usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF
done
echo "done."
echo -n "rebuilding font cache... "
/usr/bin/fc-cache
cd /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF
../../../../bin/mkfontscale
../../../../bin/mkfontdir
cp ../encodings/encodings.dir ./encodings.dir
echo "done."
rm -rf tmp/ttf-ms-fonts
# arg 1: the new package version
# arg 2: the old package version
post_upgrade() {
# remove fonts from their old location
rm -rf usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/ttf-ms-fonts
post_install $1
# arg 1: the old package version
pre_remove() {
#rm -f usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/
[ -f usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/msfonts.txt ] || return
for i in `cat usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/msfonts.txt`; do
rm -f usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/$i
done
rm -f usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/msfonts.txt
# arg 1: the old package version
post_remove() {
echo -n "rebuilding font cache... "
/usr/bin/fc-cache
cd /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF
../../../../bin/mkfontscale
../../../../bin/mkfontdir
cp ../encodings/encodings.dir ./encodings.dir
echo "done."

Fonts shown as installed by Font Book not available to applications
I have several fonts that Font Book shows as installed that are not available to any of my applications, including Word and Quark Express. These fonts include Arial Bold, Arial Bold Italic, and Arial Italic, all of which I believe were installed as part of OS 10.4, along with several other fonts in the Arial family that are available to my applications. How can I get all my installed fonts to be available to my applications?
John LinkHI John,
Try deleting the FontBook pref file: com.apple.fontbook.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag the .plist file from your Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot. Launch Word or QE and see if those fonts are available now.
Validating fonts
If fonts are not displayed as expected when you open documents or you cannot open documents, it's possible fonts have been corrupted. You can validate fonts to confirm they are still safe to use, and remove any corrupted fonts you find.
Take care not to remove system fonts, located in /System/Library/Fonts; removing system fonts could cause some applications to quit unexpectedly.
To validate fonts:
Open Font Book and select one or more installed fonts to check.
Choose File > Validate Font.
In the Font Validation window, review the fonts listed for warnings or errors. Use the pop-up menu to display warnings and errors separately, if necessary.
For fonts with warnings or errors, click the disclosure triangle next to the font to see which validation rules show errors.
To remove a corrupted font, click the checkbox next to the font. Make sure fonts you want to keep are not checked. Then click the Remove Checked button.
You can also use the Console utility to troubleshoot problems with installed fonts. In the console.log window, type "font" or a font name (such as "Arial") in the Filter field to find font-related log messages.
You can validate font files before installing the fonts. To do so, in Font Book choose File > Validate Files. Browse to and select a font file to validate and click Open. Font Book displays the Font Validation window and indicates whether it found problems with the font.

OK, fellow Apple users. I use both English and Japanese on this computer when typing. And I've recently downloaded some Japanese fonts and tried installing them, thinking that when I type in Japanese, I can use them as fonts for when I'm using photoshop, but the Japanese characters actually installed themselves into the English keyboard, and they won't change even if I type in Japanese... So, how do I install Japanese fonts into the Japanese keyboard instead? It'd be really helpful if I knew... Also, I was not sure where to have posted this, but I posted it here, since it's a general Apple problem.
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb144/Blibbles/Screenshot2009-11-12at114309PM .png <- This is the problem, the characters are linked to the English Alphabet when they should be linked to the Japanese typing method.
ありがとうThe fonts can't be just for the US Keyboard... That wouldn't make sense.
These fonts seem to be specially styled Kana fonts which one might use for creating artwork of some sort, and for that purpose it may make sense to just put the glyphs at the Latin codepoints for input convenience. Real Japanese fonts are much larger and have thousands of Kanji characters in addition to the Kana, with all characters at their agreed Unicode codepoints. Some examples beyond those that OS X itself installs can be found here:

Our client has a request: they need a specific collection of fonts (Myriad Pro) to match their policy. So I tried to install Myriad Pro fonts from here: http://www.cufonfonts.com/en/font/492/myriad-pro, and install them on Exchange Server (our client has
only one mail server). But when users access mail via OWA, they don't see new fonts, just the default ones.
Is Exchange Server 2013 allow us to install new fonts for OWA?
Thanks for your kindly help.
Tu9a2Hi
There is the ability to create a new theme in OWA 2013 - I haven't tried this myself yet but the instructions can be found here:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb201700(v=exchg.150).aspx
Cheers, Steve
I've already tried that, and it's nothing related to add new fonts. The only thing that OWA allow us to modify is the color of the fonts, that's all.
So far I can't find any solution for that specific issue. So I've marked Terence Yu post as an answer. I think at the moment we have to accept that.
Thank you all! -
Adding special font VPSKEY4.3 vietnamese characters?
I'm trying to use vietnamese characters font to use for text title. Anyone know how to add this type of font? I'm using VPSKEY4.3 program, unable to get it to work on PE8.
Welcome to the forum.
As Steve say, Installing the font in the system should work fine. Be aware, however, that different foundries produce different fonts. Adobe programs work best with OTF's (Open Type Fonts), and then with PS fonts (Postscript), but also work with many TTF's (TrueType fonts). The key is "many," as some just do not work in Adobe products. It can depend greatly on how well those fonts are formed.
Especially with some Arabic and Asian fonts, one might have to try the products from several different foundries, to get them to work correctly, and display properly. A Photoshop user and I went through about four foundries' products to find a special Korean font for her use. If the version that you have does not work, do not hesitate to try that font (or very similar) from another source.
Good luck,

How do I install PFB fonts when using Windows 7 64bit?
I got a new 64 bit computer with Windows 7. But when I copied the fonts I was using on the old computer the PFB fonts do not work any longer.
The old ATMF program does not work on this computer so how do I now install the PFB fonts?
//AnniHopefully you did not try to install the old Adobe Type Manager software. If you did, you may need to totally reload Windows if you cannot restore your system to its state prior to attempting to install that software!
Assuming that you didn't make that fatal mistake, the method for installing Type 1 fonts, each of which consists of a .pfb and a .pfm file is as follows:
(1) Copy the .pfb and the .pfm files to a single directory if they are not already so available.
(2) Select the .pfm files for the fonts you wish to install.
(3) Right-click and select Install which will then proceed to install the fonts onto your system copying both the .pfb and the .pfm files to the C:\Windows\Fonts directory. Do not drag-and-drop these files! Alternatively, if you don't want the font files themselves resident in the C:\Windows\Fonts directory, when you right-click the files, select Install as shortcut. This installs the font but references it from its current location.

Error while loading shared libraries after installing cleartype fonts.
Hi there.!
Since the default fonts of Arch looked quite ugly on my LCD, I read the Fonts wiki and installed cleartype packages from AUR.But now, when I try switching to runlevel 5 (I use GDM by the way), it throws up following error:
/usr/sbin/gdm-binary: error while loading shared libraries: libcairo.so.2 : cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.
I didn't edit the pkgbuilds in any way.Running "locate libcairo.so" doesn't show up anything either.
Any help guys.?Well you have two choices, use windows XP or google for 'fonts linux ugly'
or there is a search feature on this forum, it works well.
setting a right DPI will probably make your fonts look the best no matter what packages you install or ~/.fonts file you use.

The same server i want to installed SOLMAN 4.0 with sql 2005.

AmolHi,
You only have to consider 2 things :
1. SAPTRANSHOST entry in hosts file will be the same for both systems
this mean that both systems will share the same transport directory
Regards,
Wojtek
This is not true. Your SAPTRANSHOST will remain the same, but you can (and should) specify independent trans directories with the DIR_TRANS and and EPS profile parameters to designate where the instance trans files should be located (i.e. /usr/sap/trans_SID). I recommend you make this change in the existing host first, and then clear out the trans directory. Let the 2nd instance install into it and then alter that one too (thereby moving the files to the new /usr/sap/trans_SID2).
