Installing SSD in customized HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 CTO Entertainment Edition Notebook

I have a customized dv6t-7000 entertainment notebook and I would like to install an SSD to boot the OS.  According to the manual, or at least from vague pictures in the manual, the SSD installs directly to the motherboard.  It doesn't specify what type of SSDs the available replacement parts are and I can't view the specifics on the HP parts replacement website either.  I am wondering what type of SSDs are compatible with the port in the laptop, is it for mSATA (SATA II or III) or for 2.5" SSDs.  I don't know too much about SSDs, but I want to be able to find a compatible part.  I currently use the optical drive, so I don't want to switch it out for a hard drive chasis.  I understand that method would use a 2.5" SSD.   If anyone can clarify what type of port is in the laptop and what SSDs are compatible, that would be awesome!

Here is the Service Manual which will be helpful:
Manual
If your laptop is an Intel model then you have an mSSD slot which looks like a wireless slot.
See Page 71. Unfortunately the mSSD slot is a bear to access. If taking the laptop almost all the way apart is something you can do, then an mSSD is in the cards for you. If not, I strongly suggest simply replacing the mechanical drive with a 2.5 inch SATA SSD drive. Even if you can get the mSSD installed, configuring the system to boot from the mSSD is also very hard if you also want to have a regular hard drive for storage. It is easier to apply the mSSD as an acceleration cache drive, making the main hard drive perform more like an SSD.

  • I have a sound problem with my HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC

It was working properly but for some reasons it is not working I reinstall the IDT Codec driver but nothing happen
What should I do in this case

    Hi,
Right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.
If you still have no audio, open windows Control Panel, open Administrative Tools and open Services.  Check that the following services are all showing as Status= Started and Start-up Type= Automatic
    Audio Service
    Multimedia Class Scheduler
    Windows Audio
    Windows Audio Endpoint Builder
If you need to make a change to any of the above, just right click the service and select Properties, then in the dropdown box next to 'Start-up type',  select Automatic and click Apply to save the change.  Then click the Start button.
If you still have no audio, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device, select Properties and click the Drivers tab - is there any error code showing in the 'Device status' box?

  • HP Pavilion dv7t-7000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC - Upgrade Processor

    Hello,
    Any help would be appreciated.
I have an HP Pavilion dv7t-7000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC.  Because of a new job I need to update my processor from the current 2.30 GHz (see exact specs below, please) to at least 3.0 GHz.
Is there a 3.0GHz processor out there that is compatible with this particular computer? I've called technical support and was told they don't know. I really don't know who else to ask.
This computer was just purchased a few months ago (before I got the new job). I would really like to avoid purchasing a new computer, if at all possible, if I can upgrade the processor in this one.
Here are the specs of the current processor:
    Intel Core i7 3610QM
    Code Name    Ivy Bridge
    Package    Socket 988B rPGA
    Technology    22nm
    Specification    Intel Core i7-3610QM CPU @ 2.30GHz
    Thanks in advance.

Well, there appears to be just one (that I've found) 3.0 GHz processor that Intel makes for my chipset  (HM77 Express Chipset) and it's the i7-3940XM Extreme edition (http://ark.intel.com/products/71096/)
At a retail price of $1,000+ it looks like I'm going shopping for a new computer.
Not sure if anyone from HP read the peer forums, however, I will not be purchasing another HP product.
This machine has had issues outside of me needing to upgrade the processor for my own personal reasons. Your support is grossly lacking in all areas Your techscannot even pull up the model number with the serial number.

  • Graphics Driver for HP Pavilion dv6t-6000 CTO Quad Edition Entertainment Notebook PC for Win 8.1

    Hello Everyone,
I currently have an HP Pavilion dv6t-6000 Quad Edition with intel i7 and switchable radeon HD graphics card . I have made the jump from Windows 7 to 8.1 as I am a Current University student studying Information technology and have the need to be updated in terms of technology. I found Win 8.1 to run a bit faster on my PC than Win 7. I have ran into a couple of problems when upgrading to 8.1.
1.) I've been having an issue finding the correct and stable Video Graphics driver for my Radeon HD 6770M switchable graphics. I tried intalling the original Win 7 driver in the HP driver but does not work properly. I have also tried download a generic driver from the AMD Radeon driver website, but the screen is extremly dim when intalled and is almost impossible to use unless I hold a lamp to the LCD screen. The brightness function keys DO get reconized when pressed, but the brighness will not change no matter how high or low the brightness threshold is at.
2.) It is a bit out of topic, but I have also been having alot of trouble getting the validity fingerprint sensor to work with Win 8.1.
I would really appreciate if anyone can help me with these issues or point me in the right direction in order to get them fixed. I am an IT student and have done alot of reasearch on these topics but have been unable to get them to work as intented.
P.S: I have read alot of fixes about brightness using regedit and edditing some values on specific registry entries. I have found them for many other pc manufacturers, but not for HP. Not an expert on registry stuff, but seems like many people get it fixed by doing so. Just an idea.

Due to the age of this model, HP is only providing drivers for Windows 7. After searching through the HP Forum, I was unable to find a satisfactory solution to your issue.

  • HP Pavilion DV6t-3100 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC - Upgrade hard drive to SSD and windows 8?

I want to upgrade my hard drive (WDC WD6400BEVT-60A0RT0) to SSD for faster performance AND upgrade to Windows 8. How should I proceed? Which should come first?
I am not very knowledgeable about these things, but I have changed hard drives before -- never an SSD though. Never had BIOS problems in these changes, so never bothered with it either. No experience about that. I am practically illiterate about that part.
What should I be careful about? Any SSD drive would work? Would BIOS (F.29) and motherboard (144A 65.38) be relevant? How should I choose my new SSD?
Do I absolutely need to clone C: drive? Could I not install windows 8 fresh/anew? What problems may I have with a new SSD?
In short -- what would be the best and least problematic way to do this?
I will back up my audio, video and office files. All copy-paste stuff. I have no problem with installing all my programs from scratch.
I couldn't find a specific thread that provides a comprehensive answer so I opened this thread.
    Thanks.

It should be pretty simple _ remove the battery and adapter _ install your SSD _ hold down the power button for 1 full minute.
Eject the DVD tray with the manual eject hole using a bent out paper clip.
Load you W8 disc _ close the tray and plug in the adapter.
Boot up, it should just boot to the W8 disc, if it doesn't there will be a quick flash on the screen when to press the esc key, after that you choose f9 (with out checking) and tell the BIOS to boot from the CD/DVD ROM.
(the W8 disc will format the drive automatically)
Get the newest SSD you can find, don't buy old junk from eBay _ always buy from a reputable dealer.
I have Samsung SSD in my dv8 and has no problems, my old dv7 has an Intel SSD and it's been good too _ no problems. Stay away from bargain deals with obscure brand names.
There are no official drivers posted for your machine for W8, so you can/will have to use the generic ones, but some times the HP OEM W7 drivers will work.
Start with you Chipset driver first _ I think it's Intel _ there are no specs listed as your's is a CTO model.
Get the Chipset driver direct from Intel _ they may have updated their auto driver finder to scan in a W8 environment.
Install the rest of the drivers in any order. You can also use Windows update to find the drivers as well, it's up to you.
Be aware that some things may not work in W8, like you finger print reader.
The SSD will behave exactly the same as a standard drive, the only difference is that it will run faster.

  • BIOS Update for HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 CTO

I was just looking at the updates for my laptop and saw two BIOS updates here.  I was wondering which one actually applies to my particlular machine.   As one can see, one is a few months more recent than the other.  Does this mean that it has the fixes that the older one already employs?   If so, why list both when only the newst one is relevant?
Looking further into this, I took a look at the revision history (Previous Versions) for both and  they each list themselves as "Current".  One lists as  "F.29 Current 10-2013"  and the other "F.24 Current 02-2013".  So, which one is actually current?
Can anyone shed some light on this?   I can post more specific info about my machine upon request if that would help.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

The one with the later date is more current. This is customary on computer manufacturer support websites. They will usually keep the last couple of versions up there with the latest one. Toshiba is particularly bad about never removing old versions of drivers and BIOS. And BIOS updates are cumulative. You can skip over to the latest one and all the updates in all the interim versions will be included. The files are labeled clearly as to their date of issue and that they only apply to models with Intel processors so it should be apparent you need to install the latest one and only of your machine has an Intel processor. If you need anything else let us know.

  • HP Pavilion dv6t-6c00 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC AMD Graphics driver

I have been having this problem for over a year (my warranty had conveniently just expired right before this started happening). It first started when I plugged in my computer to my tv through an HDMI cord (which I had done before with no problems). My computer shut down after loading up a game and when I finally got my computer back up and running, it said my AMD graphics card driver was not working properly. Every time I tried to repair or update it through the HP Website via the drivers list, it would crash my computer. After I unstalled the driver completely, it STILL crashes my computer upon trying to  now re install it. I am very frustrated and at a loss, and I know there have been a lot of problems with these drivers in the past. They haven't even been updated since 2011... I built this computer to be a gaming lap top, and at this point it is just a suped up paper weight as there's no point in even having 8GB of RAM or 1TB of hard drive memory if I can't even run my games on it... Has anyone had this problem or found a solution to it?

  • Connecting multiple monitors to my HP Pavilion dv7t-7000 CTO Entertainment Notebook

I am trying to connect two Asus V-238H-P monitors to my laptop. I have had just one of the monitors in the past and got the second today. I connected the first one to my laptop with the VGA cable and it worked wonders. Now, since the HDMI and VGA ports are too close together on the notebook to use them simultaneously, I got a VicTsing USB 3.0 to VGA adapter to use for one and am using HDMI for the other. The problem is that the monitor connected to the adapter is not getting a signal. When I power on the monitor it says " NO VGA SIGNAL" and goes to sleep. The monitor connected to the HDMI is working fine.
I don't know if the adapter is the problem or if the USB port is the problem. When I go into the Screen Resolution (Windows 7 64-Bit) window, it can detect the display on VGA but when I extend the desktop to the display, nothing happens.
Apologies for the paragraph, thanks in advance.

  • Heat cpu/hdd hp pavilion dv6t-7000

Product name: HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 CTO Entertainment Notebook
Problem: Over heating on the CPU and fan noizes
More details: O.S. Windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1
CPU: Intel Core i7-3610 QM @ 2.30 GHZ
    RAM: 8.00 GB
    64 Bit
    My message:
Greetings fellas, so i got this problem on my laptop i bought about a year ago, ive formatted it only once, and recently (2 months ago) i noticed over heating on the CPU, im almost sure its the CPU because i downloaded the SW SpeedFan and it shows the CPU has between 40° C - 50° C, all though the HDD shows overheating sometines so it maybe that too.
Im concerned about this because sometimes when its on 50°c or above the fan starts to speed up and makes loud noizes, i searched for some information about this and on the user guide it says that this particular model, on an operating environment, needs to fluctuate between 5°c - 35°c. (I dont know if its talking about the CPU temp. or the physical environment of the room).
So my question is, what are the recommended temp. for this laptop?
besides the dust accumulation, what can cause overheating?
im afraid these temp. may harm the hardware, is this normal? what can i do to reduce the heat?
(i also bought a usb fan cooling system, it helps but i still get these fan noizes from time to time. Also id like to mention that whenever i grab the laptop from its sides it seems like the pressure i make with my hands makes even more heat because instantly the fan starts speeding up, and therefore i need to grab it really carefully so it wont heat up.)
    P.S.
The heat sensation takes part right beside the toouchpad (left side).
Hope you can help me undesrtand why this happens, how to prevent it, and how to fix this.
    Thanks in advance.

With the warranty i mean you can modify it if you want but then the problem can become worse.
A laptop is designed for a good airflow to cool components. If you change anything the airflow can be worse. (and you loose your warranty.)
But there is one problem about your model, it's not designed for teardown.
You can take some think needles and stick them into the fan if you can acces it from the outside.
Then take your vacuum cleaner to suck the dust out of your laptop. But nake sure the fan doesn't move.
if you can get your keyboard out then it will be easy to stop the fan otherwise i think you should let it go
    I found this one

But i doubt if it's worth it

  • Need a Recovery CD for HP Pavilion dv6t-7000, want to purchase the cd from south america

    Hi there:
I accidentally deleted all partitions from my HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 hard disk, I need the recovery disk, where can I purchase and download it?

If you know someone in the USA... order the discs or have them order the discs and send to their address. Once they receive the discs, have them mail the disc set to you in Venezuela.
Alternatively, if you can still read the 25-digit Windows product key on the Microsoft COA affixed to the bottom the computer, you can install Windows 7 using this key. Please see "How to Install Windows 7 Without the Disc" for instructions on how to download Windows 7, create the installation media, and install Windows 7 using the 25-digit product key from the Microsoft COA on your computer. Using this method will not install any HP customizations or value-added software and you will have to manually install all needed drivers.

  • P2PP Boot Check Failed - Pavilion dv6t-7000 Quad Edition (Windows 7) using Recovery Media

Hello, My name is Brandon Giesel and I have an HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 Quad Edition laptop. I've been using Windows 7 recovery media (part # 689366-002) to attempt to restore my computer back to factory defaults. I run the recovery dvds as instructed with disc 1, disc 2, disc 3, and application and driver recovery dvd. I've tried reseting the bios back to setup defaults to be safe and I use the boot device options to select the built-in dvd/cd-rom drive. I've also installed a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium using the box set dvd I have laying around home and it installed no problem and boots to the desktop, but ofcourse doesn't have all the necessary drivers and hp software. I did this to confirm that hardware works properly. The computer also passes the start-up test. Memory and Hard Drive passed the test. The recovery seems to go through without a hitch until I hit the end and I get an error message that I believe is pointing to the network controller not functioning correctly. Error message down below... I used the same recovery media that I've used successfully in the past and tried 3 different sets of recovery media all with matching part numbers with no success. I also tried installing Windows using a MS box installation disc and installed the Realtec Ethernet Controller driver thinking that if I got the ethernet driver installed before doing the recovery that it would allow the recovery to go through successfully, but that didn't work either. Do you guys or gals have any ideas or suggestions on possible fixes? I'm open to advanced solutions. I've gone through Microsoft Windows 8.1 MCSA certification training, but this one has me absolutely stumped.  Serial #: 2CE31510V5Product #: A5F76AVBios Version: F.0AProcessor Type: Intel Core i7-3610QM @ 2.3GHz Originally shipped with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit  Error message: Recovery Manager: "The recovery attempt has failed.
