Installing SSD in MacBookPro 5,1 (late 2008). Need new Mountain Lion OS for fresh install?
I'm installing SSD in MacBookPro 5,1 (late 2008). It is suggested that a clean install be done, then use migrate to move applications and files. I am upgrading from OX 10.6.8 which came with my machine and I do not have a disc for a fresh install. How do I get a Mountain Lion OS as a upgrade to do an install on the new hd? I have a back up boot and system hard drive and it could be migrated to the new disk then upgraded, but I would like to start fresh. Any suggestions either way?
I found the answer in the forum....sorry for a repeated question. I don't know how to deleat my original question.

Macbook Pro (Late 2008) versus OSX Mountain Lion
Kuzuzangpo:
I've been updating most OS updates on my Macbook Pro (Late 2008) via the App Store. The process has worked seamlessly so far. I love Apple. I wanted to ask if I should update to the Mountain Lion OS as well on my old Macbook? The App Store reviews state that it slows down the Macbook considerably. I am also thinking of getting the new Macbook Pro (with Retina Display) but want it in a 13". So far, there's only the 15" which - given my current Macbook and type of work now - is a bit too bulky to lug around. Any advice is most appreciated.
KadrincheyI have already installed it from the mac app store, i open it from the launchpad but it does not open in a boot kind of mode, it only opens as if it's an app.

Mac Pro (2008) Kernel Panic Mountain Lion
Hello everyone, if anyone could help it be great. Okay so i have a Mac Pro 3,1 (2008) that im trying to hang on too because it runs great otherwise then these pesky kernal panics i get every couple of weeks or some times every couple of days or so. It is upgraded to everyting i can think of and im hoping i can keep it for another few years before apple drops support for it . Okay so has a PCIe SSD card from mac sales (also the boot drive) in it and i did recently install a driver they relesed, but i cant rember if i was haveing this problem before or not... Dang. But it also has 3 harddrives raided togeather using apple software raid im guessing it has somting to with one of the two because in the kernal pacnic report it says dependency: com.apple.driver.DiskImages is in its backtrace and from my knowledge that means it was from that extention?? .. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help that is offered!
Here is the Kernal Panic

I have a white macbook purchased early 2008. I'm updated to ver. 10.6.8 can I upgrade to the new mountain lion and will it operate?
It doesn't appear to be Mountain Lion compatible. See below.
Your Mac must be one of the following models:
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
Xserve (Early 2009) -
Hi guys..!!
I would like to know if someone could help on this:
I just have a HP printer (HP Designjet 100) and for some reason I need to install a file for all the HP printers drivers in total 590MB to be able to use my printer in my mountain lion???
If normally the size of my files in the for previous software was more or less 5MB why now i need to install 590?
Some one could help me how to avoid installation of 590MB for my new mountain lion software???
ThanksIf you go to http://support.apple.com/downloads and locate the HP Printer Drivers installer, you will find that it is 473.4 MB (for version 2.11). If you install this, it will install the full set of drivers for every model of HP printer that is supported by the drivers distributed through Apple. The disk space occupied once installed will probably be larger than the download, since the downloaded file is compressed.
On the other hand, if you have an HP printer connected and you use Software Update (or the Update tab in App Store), that should offer you a much smaller set of HP drivers, which are only applicable to your printer (and possibly a few similar ones). These updates are typically only tens of megabytes rather than hundreds of megabytes.
If Software Update doesn't offer you any HP drivers then it either thinks you have the latest drivers installed already, or the printer model is not supported by the drivers available from Apple.
This article lists all of the printer models for which Apple distributes the driver:

I just installed the new mountain lion software on my iMac. I was currently running Snow Leopard. My problem is with my mouse. Now when I scroll down the page it moves in the opposite direction. In system preferences I tried checking and unchecking Natural for scroll feature. Movement from side to side works fine. Has anyone experienced this problem?
I think this new scrolling behaviour was introduced with Lion. You do get used to it pretty quickly (well I did). Are you sure that deselecting Natural Scrolling in Mouse Prefs doesn't re-instate the previous behaviour, it does here.

Installing Canon MF4320-4350 (UFRII LT) with the new mountain lion OS.
I cannot get my Canon MF4320-4350 (UFRII LT) printer to work since I installed the new mountain lion OS. Please help! Thanks.
If you upgraded to Mountain Lion from Lion or Snow Leopard and had the UFR2 LT driver installed for that OS, you will need to remove the old UFR2 driver and install the latest. Before you do this, if you already created a printer for the MF43xx in Print & Scan, remove this printer.
Then, on the Mac, open Finder and navigate to HD > Library > Printers > Canon and trash the UFR2 and CUPSCMFP folders.
Still in Finder, navigate to HD > Library > LaunchAgents and trash the files "jp.co.canon.UFR2.BG.plist" and "jp.co.canon.CUPSCMFP.BG.plist"
Restart the Mac and after you log back in, install the Canon UFR2 v2.41 driver and then add the MF43xx via Print & Scan. -
I have recently bought a iMac but I do not have the new Mountain Lion installed. Do I have to buy this or am I entitled to a copy for free?
Am I eligible for the free upgrade?

Apple Hardware Test on a late 2008 MBP new HDD
Hey Community!
I own a Mac Book Pro - Late 2008 shipped with OSX 10.5.5. Currently I a new 500GB HDD and a 265 SDD are running in my MBP. The Super Drive is in an external USB Housing. Current OS X is version 10.7.1.
I need to run the Apple Hardware Test, because sometimes the system seems to freeze for at least 30 seconds.
What I've already tried:
*) Holding down "D" at the startup -> nothing happens, normal startup
*) setting start volume to external fire wire optical drive, insert 10.5.5. Installation disc, restart, holding down "D" -> startup with installation wizard
*) same with 10.6 Installation disc
*) same with choosing the Backup Partition when holding down "Alt" at startup and then pressing "D"
Always, I was connected via WIFI and Ethernet.
Can someone give me an advise how to run the Apple Hardware Test, or how to reinstall it on the new SDD Harddrive, where my system is mounted?
Thank u and greetings from Austria
ClaudioTry using your disk utility to read the drives. I'm not at my computer now but if you go into utilities->disk utility you might be able to solve it from there.
Also try holding down the C key on boot or esc. -
HT3207 MacBook Pro late 2008 needing RAM

Erasing 24" 2008 Imacs running Mountain Lion
I have 2 24" Imacs from late 2008. I want to erase the hardrives so I can sell them.
I have upgraded both of them to Mountain Lion and they have been running fine. When I come to start them with Command-R held down both of them have the same problem - I am unable to erase the disk and do a fresh install of the OS because the hard drive won't unmount.
I have verified and repaired permissions on both machines and there are no problems.
I also cannot restart either of them from my Snpw Leopard disk!
Do you think I need to go right back to the original OS disk that was supplied with these computers?
Thank you!No sense upgrading them after you erase and install the original OS. The reason being you are not permitted to transfer the license for any software (OS's included) that you purchased from the Mac App Store.
So unless the systems in question shipped with Lion or Mountain Lion you have to sell them with the OS that was on them you you bought them.

I own a MacBook "Early 2008 Core 2 Duo/Penryn" Series has Intel Processor (T8100 (2.1 GHz ) / T8300 (2.4 GHz)) 45 nm "Penryn" processors, 4 GB of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300) installed in pairs (two 02 GB modules), a 160.0 GB Serial ATA (5400 RPM) hard drive with "Sudden Motion Sensor" technology, an 8X dual-layer write DVD±RW/CD-RW SuperDrive, an Intel GMA X3100 integrated "graphics processor with 144 MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared with main memory", and a 13.3" widescreen TFT active-matrix "glossy" display (1280x800 native resolution). It also includes AirPort Extreme (802.11a/b/g/n), Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, Gigabit Ethernet, a FireWire "400" port, two USB 2.0 ports, optical digital audio in/out, and video out capabilities (mini-DVI) that supports an external display. These models also include the "scrolling Trackpad", built-in iSight video camera, "MagSafe" power connector, "flush against the bed " keyboard that does not touch the screen” and "no moving parts" magnetic latch that "catches without a catch".
Now to the adventure on this, the above model (stock) ships with a Operating System MAC OS X Leopard which was succeeded by MAC OS X Snow Leopard ( $19.99 / INR 1060.00 approx. ) which was again upgraded to MAC OS X Lion ( $19.99 / INR 1060.00 approx. ) and the latest one is MAC OS X Mountain Lion ( $19.99 / INR 1060.00 approx. ).
Interesting part to all this technological babble is how APPLE INC forces you buy their product both hardware and software. Now, I have this old MacBook Early 2008 Model PC and I took it to the shop and I thought I would upgrade the software (OS and APPS) so I take it to the iStore ‘Rescue Centre’, as APPLE INC calls it world over, they say you will have to upgrade it version by version and each version would cost you a licence fee! SO the cost break up would be, I’m currently on MAC OS X Leopard to be updated by MAC OS X Snow Leopard ( cost $19.99 / INR 1060.00 approx. ) which again to be upgraded MAC OS X Lion ( cost $19.99 / INR 1060.00 approx. ) and then to latest one is MAC OS X Mountain Lion ( cost $19.99 / INR 1060.00 approx. ) which means I have to pay INR 3210.00 to upgrade the machine and I agree to pay for that and after two upgrades the third one(that is the latest version) was not compatible with my machine because of inferior/outdated hardware e unit and If I want the new operating system then I told to buy the new machine which costs between INR 90,000 to INR 1,40,000!!
That … ***** !!!
So I’m here looking for somebody, anybody, whether you would be able to help me with my MacBook which is early 2008 Core 2 Duo/Penryn Series (for exact specifications, see above) and I currently running Lion on it and wondering is there any way I can upgrade this to Mountain Lion?Your early 2008 MacBook cannot be upgraded to Mountain Lion. The reason is that Mountain Lion is entirely a 64 bit operating system, and cannot use any 32 bit components. Lion, while also 64 bit-based, can use some 32 bit components, and thus would work on all Core 2 Duo machines. This article has more details.
The center you went to was incorrect when they said you have to upgrade to each operating system. You need to be at Snow Leopard in order to access the App store to download Mountain Lion. You don't have to install Lion to get to Mountain Lion. See this Apple page on this. -
Downgrade late 2013 mbp to mountain lion
Hi,
Im looking at buying a macbook pro late 2013 model, with OS Mavericks installed. But I would like to wipe it off and install mountain lion.
Would this be possible?
I have a mbp at the moment with mountain lion 10.8.5 - would i be able to use that somehow?
I'd prefer to do a fresh install os mountain lion if possible.
Any help would be really appreciated,
ThanksBefore you wipe out Mavericks on the new MBP, you want to check if the older OS will support the new hardware and firmware of the Retina MBP. One method is to use Target Disk Mode between the old MBP and the new one and see if it works correctly.
If you need to run 10.8.5, you can also consider virtualization solutions (like Vmware) to run a ML VM. You want to make sure you buy a MBP with enough memory so it can support the VM and the underlying OS, both, otherwise you will end up with beach balls of death.
