Installing Studio Upgrade

I have just done a new install of OSX on my Macbook Pro. I want to end up with my FCP 7.03 on it. My question is, must I install Studio 2 with the FCP6 AND THEN install the Studio upgrade that contains the FCP 7?

Well everything worked fine until I got to trying to update to 7.03, I logged in on this log in and it wouldn't recognise either my Studio 2 serial number or my Update number.
I seem to recall this happening before and I actually re-installed the 1st FCP 6 installation disc as well, then it recognised the s/n. I'd rather not do this. Any ideas?

  • Installing studio UPGRADE on new imac with no Logic installed.

Been running Logic Pro (7) on an old mac and have now bought a lovely new imac and also purchased upgrade to Logic Studio.
Do I need to install old Logic Pro before using the Studio upgrade discs? Or can I go straight to the Studio installation and simply plug in the dongle/key into the usb at the appropriate time?
I'm assuming because the old Pro version is pre-intel etc it is a somewhat redundant exercise to load it. But I don't want the Studio installation to stall because it 'can't find' a valid version of Logic to upgrade from.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's even the same disk just labeled differently.
I'm almost positive it is. In other words, it's not the install disk that makes the package an upgrade or full version, it's the license which is tied to the serial number.
If, theoretically, you owned an upgrade disk with serial, and a full version disk with serial, and you installed from one disk, but typed in the serial number that came with the other disk, you'd end up with a perfectly good install that was tied to whatever serial you put in. I don't think it'd matter what disk you used.

  • Imac won't let me install Final cut studio 2..it will let me install the upgrade, but it has no live type and i need it to work on my current projects. How do I get Live type back installed in iMac

I just purchased an iMac for home and went to install final cut studio 2 and it gave me an error saying something about "PowerPC" not used or something like that. Installed the studio upgrade just fine...but it has no "Live Type" which I need to work on projects I have been using in my Mac Pro at my work place. How do I get "Live Type" to install in this iMac? Downloaded Live Type upgrade but that won't update cause there's no "Live Type" in the applications.

It sounds like you have Lion installed on your new imac, although your profile says SL 10.6.8 (you may want to change this.)
If you have the Snow Leopard install disc I believe you can install "Rosetta" from the extras folder which will then, if you have the original FCS2 discs , allow you to select and install Live Type and LIve Type content only from the custom install options.
I hope this will work for you.

  • Problem Installing Final Cut Studio Upgrade

I recently purchased the Final Cut Studio Upgrade. When I went to input my SN for FCP 6 to install the upgrade, it rejects it as invalid. Have FCP 6 on my computer operating just fine. what gives?

Check to make sure your current FCP install (FCP 6) isn't an academic or Not-For-Resale version; neither is eligible for upgrade.
If you have a legitimate retail version of FCP 6, make sure you are entering the exact serial number as found on the two stickers affixed to the front of the booklet titled "Installing Your Software" that came packaged with FCP 6.
    Be careful to enter a 0 (zero) instead of an uppercase O and a 1 (one) instead of a lowercase l (L) or vice versa. The serial number should be 1 letter - 3 numbers - 3 letters - 3 numbers - 3 letters - 3 numbers - 3 letters - 3 numbers - 3 letters - 3 letters - 1 letter with 3 numbers

  • Why my final cut pro 5 in install disc look dim and saying upgrade. I make it with studio upgrade to FCP 7. Now saying FCP 5 upgrade and dim

Hi, I used Final cut 5 and 1 year ago I buy it studio upgrade and I make 7. Everything was ok. Now I changed my computer again with mac pro. I started to install in new computer and I see Final Cut Pro 5 dim and saying upgrade. Was not optional cause for dim..Want it 2 media disc too and look like ok but not working..cant started studio upgrade. Anyone can say something please ?

There's no need to install the old version (5) of FCP on the new computer.  Just start with the newest version.  You will be prompted to enter the old serial number during the install process of the upgrade version.
If you've already installed version 5 on your new computer, use this to remove it:http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcsremover/  Then install the newest version only.

  • Final Cut Studio Upgrade: Printed Manuals?

Does anyone know if there are printed manuals included for each of the applications in the upgrade version of Final Cut Studio 2? They couldn't tell me at my local Apple Store and didn't have a boxed upgrade version to examine.
Thanks for whatever info you can provide!

    Hi Gina,
If you buy FCPstudio2 (Full Package):
You get 4 printed manuals about FCP 6 and 1 about COLOR.
Manuals about Motion, Live Type, Compressor and so on are available from every software installed or upgraded when you go to HELP>USER MANUAL

  • Ability to install Studio 10 without root privileges

My group is currently using Forte Developer 6 to develope on Sun Blade 2500 machines running Solaris 8. I would like to use the trial version of Sun Studio 10 to show my group the performance improvements recieved by upgrading compilers. I've downloaded the install packages, but found that root privileges are required to run the install (even when trying to install in my own workspace). Is there any way I can install Studio 10 without having root privileges? I work for a fairly large company where it is almost impossible to get root privileges even for developer machines to do any install. Finding someone who does have root privileges and is willing to do the install seems even more difficult. Anyway, any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately, root privileges are required for installing, updating, or uninstalling any available release of Sun Studio. The reason is that the product is installed as packages, which requires root privileges to update the Solaris package database. Using packages and root-only access ensures that an installation is identifiable and consistent (except for mistakes made by people with root access). Supporiting the product is difficult when there is no way to know what is actually installed.
Nevertheless, the ability to install as an ordinary user is a frequently-requested feature. We are looking a ways to provide this capability in a future release.

  • Is there a difference between final cut studio and final cut studio upgrade

i wish to buy final cut studio and was going to buy from the apple store but they recently stopped selling i have found on amazon two final cut studios one call final cut studio and the other called final cut studio upgrade the upgrade one is cheaper so this makes me think is this just like an expansion and do i need the original but both have the same pictures, descriptions and specs so are they the same thing just with different names or what? please help

Final Cut Studio is the full install...where the UPGRADE means that it requires you to have a previous version.  It is cheaper because it only works if you have a previous version.

  • Reselling Final Cut Studio Upgrades?

Several years ago I upgraded a full version of Final Cut Pro 2 to Final Cut Studio 2 to Final Cut Studio 3. Both FCS 2 and 3 are all full-retail upgrades, not academic upgrades. Quite frankly, my company is not doing much high-end video production so I'm thinking about selling my Final Cut Studio upgrades so I can purchase a new Mac, but I have a few questions.
Since I upgraded from Final Cut Pro 2 to Final Cut Studio 2 to Final Cut Studio 3 do I have to sell everything as a bundle or can I sell each upgrade individually?
Does it matter if I registered the software with Apple?
If so, how can I find out if the software is registered?
    Thanks!

  • Installing Studio 2 over Studio 1

I've just bought a copy of Final Cut Studio 2 with FCP 6 off Ebay, a full install, not just an upgrade, and when it gets here, I'll want to install it on my G5 Mac, which for the last few years has been running the original Studio with FCP 5, in OS 10.5.8. Both the old and the new studio suites are the academic versions, if that makes any difference.
While I'm waiting for Studio 2 to get here, I'm wondering whether I will need to un-install Studio 1 before installing Studio 2. Or will Studio 2 just install right over the top of the earlier version and update anything it needs to?
I guess the question really is: what's the best way to install Studio 2 on a machine that already has Studio 1 on it, and which has been working fine on it for years?
    Tom

Thanks for the advice. I just put two brand new 2 TB drives into this G5 about a week ago, because the old drives were over three years old, and from past experience that's about the age that they start to go bad on me. Plus I needed more room for things (the old drives were 1 TBs). I also picked up a quad-core G5 and switched over to that box to get a little extra speed and more memory for video editing. The final improvement will be the switch to Studio 2 after years of working with the earlier version.
But both of those new drives are stuffed with about ten years' worth of book manuscripts, videos created with Final Cut, the Adobe CS suite, and gobs of other stuff. A Time Machine backup onto a new external drive that I did before switching to the new hard drives took about seven hours, followed by many more hours to put it all back on the new drives with a Time Machine restore. Since installing into a different box broke the licenses for the Adobe apps and other programs, those all had to be reactivated, etc. Altogether a royal pain, but the payoff was getting new drives in a better Mac.
So now, I guess in order to do right by the Final Cut Studio 2 upgrade, I'll have to wipe the startup drive and replace the system and remove and install all the files and apps yet again. This is getting tiresome, but I guess you're right, and it's the price I'll have to pay to end up with a smooth running video editing system.
I still have the old G5 running the two old hard drives, with everything on them, so as an experiment I could try a simple install of Studio 2 right on top of Studio 1 into that Mac, just to see what happens. But I guess, from what I've been reading here, it's just not the best thing to do on my current Mac.
    Thanks again,
    Tom

  • Installing Studio 8 + CS2 = Dreamweaver Conflict?

I'd like to install Studio 8 AND upgrade from Creative Suite
1 to Creative Suite 2. Since both products contain Dreamweaver 8,
I'm wondering if there will be any problems installing two DW8's?
Is there a way in either product to NOT install the DW8?
BTW: I checked into the Adobe "Web Bundle" which contains
both CS2 and Studio 8, but since I have only DW MX2004 and CS1, I
wouldn't be able to install it. According to Adobe's upgrade
policy, I also need to have an older version of Flash (and I
don't). Any advice will be appreciated.

    Should be no problem.

  • Final Cut Studio & Logic Studio upgrade issue

I am mainly audio based but have been working on projects more recently with Final Cut Studio 2 to deal with the video. As I use both Logic Studio 8 and Soundtrack Pro 2 a lot, and Final Cut Pro less, I plumped for the upgrade to Logic Studio which also contains STP 3 and Compressor 3.5 which seemed the right thing to do.
However the install info and dvd doesn't want you to install STP 3 or Compressor 3.5 if you have Final Cut Studio 2 as they "contain updated components that are incompatible with Final Cut Studio 2 or earlier. If the Logic Studio installer detects Final Cut Studio 2 or earlier on your system, it automatically deselects the checkboxes for Soundtrack Pro and Compressor in the Custom Install pane."
Personally I didn't want to run to the expense of upgrading Final Cut as I don't use Motion, Colour or Cinema Tools and although I am working heavily in DVD Studio Pro they haven't done anything to upgrade that application (boo!)
So what's the deal? Am I unable to upgrade ST Pro to version 3 and also unable to benefit from the upgraded Compressor even though I've actually paid for an upgrade that promised me these options, and no mention until I'd opened the package that there would be any incompatibility issues with Final Cut Studio 2!
Anyone know what these 'incompatible components' are?
Sounds like sharp practice and bad product integration to me...

I just spoke with someone in Apple Reseller Channel Sales and he told me that what is shipping now is strictly the Universal version. So, if you order a Final Cut Studio Upgrade from FCP HD ($699 retail, IIRC), you will receive the FCS Universal version in the big box with all the docs.

  • Studio Upgrade

When I installed my Studio upgrade (FCP7) I lost the menu item that used to say " export using Compressor". Is there something I can do to get it back?

That one was now replaced by the send to compressor.

  • Am I eligible for $299 Final Cut Studio Upgrade?

I own the following versions of Final Cut Pro. Some of them are very old.
    Final Cut Pro 1.2 (Academic)
    Final Cut Pro 3.0 (Academic)
Final Cut Pro 4 (Non-Academic, Upgrade version)
Will my ownership of any of these versions qualify me for the new $299 Final Cut Studio upgrade? And how does the upgrade work, does one just input their serial number from a previous version (I ask because none of my owned versions are currently installed)?
Thanks for the help. Much appreciated!

Not quite sure how your FCP4 upgrade works as the previous academic versions were not upgradable.
The Final Cut Studio 3 upgrade version requires a non academic, full retail (non-upgrade) FCP serial number as the basis for upgrading.
However, when in doubt about this, best to have a conversation with Apple directly as they are the ultimate authority on whether this will work or not.
