Installing Sun Mobility Studio 6 using J2SE 1.5

The installer cannot find or recognize the J2SE 1.5 as a suitable JVM.
I have the (jstudio_M04q3-win-ml.exe) version of mobilit studio.
Also tried -is:javahome option but doesn't work.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi!
I had the same problem.
You have to download JRE 1.4.x version and J2SE 1.4.xx version.
Good luck.

  • Installing Sun One Studio on Linux Mandrake 9.1

I try to install the Sun One Studio 5 on my mandrake 9.1 Linux.
I am using the jdk 1.4.2 and I am logged as root.
    When running the command:
    ./s1s5se-linux-en.bin -isjavahome /home/products/j2sdk1.4.2
    I get the error message:
The installation cannot continue for the following reason(s):
To install Sun ONE Studio 5 you need to log in as superuser or a user with administrator privileges.

Yep I agree this is very disapointing, however I have got Sun One Studio 5 Standard Edition working on Mandrake 9.1
Fortunatley I am lucky enough to have a spare hard drive and RedHat7.2, another pc networked up and the following is what I did....
Installed Redhat7.2, j2sdk1.4.2, then ran the SunOneStudio install as root, tested and works fine.
The Studio gets installed into /opt there are 2 dirs which are needed from what I can tell 1 is the ide "studio5_se" itself and the other called "imq"
cd into the root dir and create a tar file of the opt dir
    tar -cf opt.tar opt
    gzip opt.tar
I then copied the opt.tar.gz to a place I could download to the other machine, so I downloaded it, then shutdown RedHat,
re-installed my original Mandrake9.1 Hard Drive, and booted up.
logged in as root, and then transferred my opt.tar.gz to Mandrake,
untared it into the opt dir and then moved the imq and studio5_se dirs into /opt
    installed j2sdk1.4.2 rpm on Mandrake9.1
    then command line I
    1, cd /opt/studio5_se/bin
    2, ./runide.sh -jdkhome /usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2
    and HEY PRESTO
The only reason why I can see that the IDE will not install under mandrake is possible the coding under the Installsheild, maybe it looks for a file or someting that RedHat has and not mandrake, or just tests the OS to see if it is in the supported list, and if not then throws the error
If that is the case then it's proberly likely that it was setup like this because RedHat gives money to sun and not Mandrake????!!!?????
maybe I don't know3 just my observation, but 1 thing I do know is that due to this error I shall not be buying it, until sun change the way to install it or they go back to the old way the Forte installed
    Just my thoughts,
and I hope this helps someone

  • Superuser without privileges installing Sun One Studio in Debian Linux

i am trying to install Sun One Studio in my Debian Linux and when i launch the setup application it tells me that i must log in as superuser to install. Well, the thing is that i launch the installer as root, but the program doesn't seem to think the same :)
Surprisingly, the log file doesn'l show any related error; it only shows a warning about some widgets... so this seems to be a simple bug in the installer.

I can't not find the way to uninstall the extension.
Do I use this command to install is correct? And please suggest me the way to unInstall the extension by PowerShell script.

    Hi Bruce,
In addition, Since I'm not familar the VSIX, however, to uninstall package with powershell, these cmdlets are for your reference:
Removes an app package (.appx): Remove-AppxPackage
To get the installed package :
    Get-AppxPackage
Or if you want to uninstall app listed in 'Add or Remove Programs', please also check this script:
    $app = Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_Product | Where-Object {
    $_.Name -match "Software Name"
    $app.Uninstall()
If there is anything regarding this script, please feel free to post back.

  • Problem installing Sun ONE Studio 4 update 1, Community Edition

I recently downloaded the Sun ONE Studio 4 update 1, Community Edition and tried to install it. At one point it searches for a valid JAVA 2 SDK. This seems to go on forever. I quit after 5 hours of waiting. I already have Java 2 standard edition v1.4.1 installed. Can someone please help?

    Well thanks Chuck!
With a bit of messing around and a LOT of patience I finally installed Sun ONE Studio update 1 on my laptop pc, running Windows ME.
The trick was (I think) to apply both of the above fixes, but also a couple of things that was not quite as evident.
1 - Do NOT install the SDK in "C:\Program Files\" or any directory path that contains spaces in the name! Apparently that causes problems, and is noted in one of the Knowledge Base articles.
2- When making the file noted in the Knowledge Base:
    ( http://forte.sun.com/cgi-bin/WebX?[email protected]@.ee815f4 )
    - It says: Contents of this new file should be:.
    jh=<jdk Home Path> (for example, jh=c:\j2sdk1.4.0_01)
Well it does NOT mention that there should be 2 lines in that file!
Make sure you include a carriage return and a second "blank" line!
OK, that's it. GO ahead & loose yourself in the IDE.
I hope this does not cause undue traffic in the forums but what the heck...

  • Re-install Sun One Studio 5

    Hi,
I have download and install Sun ONE studio 5 the first time and it was very successful. It install both the Studio 5 and the application server 7
Because of some setting problem, I uninstall studio 5 and deleted the application server. Now I try to re-install, it will only install the core platform & modules.
It refuses to let me check the Sun One application server 7 & pointbase option. It says Sun ONE application server is detected on the system already. But I have physcially deleted the directory.
What should I do now to install the integrated Sun ONE studio 5 with application server 7?

It is very important to note that you should not delete the whole productregistry file. Only application server specific entries should be removed from it.

  • Unable to Install  Sun Java Studio Enterprise 8 on Windows XP

    Hello,
I am trying to install the Sun Java Studio Enterprise 8 on a Windows XP machine. The installation seems to be going quite well untill it reaches the section "Publishing product Information...", then the Wizard returns the following message:-
"The wizard was interrupted before Sun Java(TM) Studio Enterprise 8 could be completely installed " ..
."The System has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, run the installatio again. Click finish to exit the wizard.. " ...
With the FINISH button activated.... I did not interrupted the installation..What does this message mean ...Can anyone help PLEASE, ???

Googling the net for this error message leads to the same issue reported while installing other software as well:
    Solution
Download and install the Microsoft Windows Installer 2.0 (InstMsi.exe) from Microsoft's Web site at www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?releaseid=32832&newlist=1
    - http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=836724
This article describes a similar problem while installing sqlserver but may be applicable in this case:
This problem occurs when both of the following conditions are true:
The DefaultAccessPermissions binary value exists under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Ole registry key
The user account that has logged on to the computer to install ... does not have default access permissions for Distributed Component Object Module (DCOM) applications.
The above articles provide possible resolutions as well.

  • Problems on Installing Sun ONE Studio 5 update1, Standard Edition

    I'm on a win x64 rig(amd x2 4400) with both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of the latest 1.5 jdk's + the runtime ofcourse.
On startup of the installer I get:
A suitable JVM could not be found. Please run the installer again using the option -is:javahome <JAVA HOME DIR>
    %classpath% is C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.5.0_04\lib\ext\QTJava.zip
Following the installers advice gets me nowhere and I get the reply as the first time.
Those that are able to install the software:
1: What java versions do you have installed
2: What other java variables do you have in the system variables except classpath.
3: Does the installer check for registry settings? If so, what do I have to add where?
    Thanks :)

You possibly aren't using the instruction correctly. Don't click the downloaded file to install. Instead, open a cmd window in the directory that contains the downloaded file. Type the name of the file followed by -is:javahome <JAVA HOME DIR> where <JAVA HOME DIR> is the full path to the directory that the Java SDK is installed in.

  • Using JMF API with Sun One Studio v4 update 1 (community ed.)

Having great difficulty trying to utilise the JMF API I've just downloaded with Sun One Studio v4, update 1 (community edition).
After installing the API, I tried copying the the .jar files under the lib folder of JMF to the lib folder of sun one studio.
Although admittedly a novice in the field of adding API's I have attempted to add the .jar files into the libary of recognised modules but made no progress.
The problem is that although JMF API is installed, Sun One Studio does not seem to be aware of this and so does not recognise any associated libraries e.g. java.media or JMFApplet.
I would appreciate advice from anyone who knows how to configure Sun One Studio to utilise the JMF API.
    Mark

All right, I think I may have solved it. After mounting jmf.jar I needed to update the parser database. All the libraries seem to be there.
Can someone clarify though, the trial program i'm using makes reference to: java.media
I don't have this module. I do instead have javax.media which I believe includes all the methods of the java version. Am I right or am I missing this crucial module??

"A suitable JVM could not be found. You need to use J2SE version 1.4.1_02 or above. If you have a suitable J2SE version installed, invoke the installer from the command line using the option -is:javahome java-home-directory."
I am sure that I have installed JVM and J2SE but I don't anderstand the problem with "javahome".
    have you got an idea?
    Thanks!!

    Hi ,
The problem could be that the J2SE is not in your path. You need to set the path environment variable to include the J2SE. If you already have done that, it could be a problem described in the following knowledgebase item.

  • Sun ONE Studio 4 update 1, CE Crashes

I know this is off-topic but I didn't see any forums related to the Sun ONE IDE. The IDE crashes every time I right click on a folder in the filesystem explorer and select New -> Classes (mainly the only one I use...of course). Everything else seems to work OK but this one submenu. If anyone has had similar problems please let me know. I am running WinXP SP1, my machine has 1gb ram, plenty of hard disk space and I am running jdk 1.4.1_01 or something like that (whatever the latest release is). Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
    chuck

I have a similar problem. I was running the Sun ONE Studio 4 update 1 on Win XP Pro without trouble, until I installed J2SE 1.4.2. Now any time I right click in the explorer window, go to new and put the cursor over any menu item that has a sub menu (classes included), it crashes. I have tried re-installing Sun ONE Studio and J2SE 1.4.2 with no luck.
If I find a solution I will keep you posted.
