  • Sun studio 11 for linux

    i successfully installed sun studio on a linux machine. i am debugging my first program.
    the problem i am having is local variables (stack variables) do not show the correct
    values. i can tell by the execution and examining the results that the local variables are
    really correct, but what is displayed is garbage. global/static variables display the
    correct values. anyone else having such an issue ?

    Sun Studio debugger has supported gcc/g++ for a while now, so
    that feature should definately work. Let us know more information
    about the bug, so we can fix it.
    If you have time and interest to experiment with pre-release compilers,
    you could download the latest "Sun Studio Express" release, and try
    out an early access version of the Sun compilers on Linux. But there
    are still a few things that don't work right. C should be very robust by now,
    but the Sun C++ and Fortran compilers still have some more porting
    work to finish before all the compiler features are available on Linux.

  • Installing Sun Studio 12 on Ubuntu 8.04

    When I try to install Sun Studio 12 with the graphical installer, I get a message half was through that Java is not installed. In my case Sun's Java was already installed. I tell the Sun Studio installer to do the update and it finished what it was doing. After the install is done, I found that the Sun Studio executable is missing, so it looked like the installation did not work. What version of Java is Sun Studio expecting and does it need to be tied to a specific path? Is there a known method for installing Java for Sun Studio 12?
    After this I uninstalled Java and Netbeans and started the system prep tool, which correctly said I was missing netbeans and java. I had the system prep tool install netbeans successfully but I get this message when trying to install java:
    error: Failed dependencies:
    glibc >= 2.1.2-11 is needed by jdk-1.5.0_09-fcs.i586
    sh-utils >= 2.0-1 is needed by jdk-1.5.0_09-fcs.i586

    /bin/sh is needed by jdk-1.5.0_09-fcs.i586
    Any suggestions?

    I could not find any log files with error information from Express or Sun Studio 12. Any ideas?Not yet :-) Can you try to build and debug a sample project? Does it show the same problem?
    I mean one of several sample projects, that are shipped with the Sun Studio IDE.
    Start "sunstudio", from main menu: "File->New Project", select Samples->C/C++/Fortran->Welcome
    Did you try to run compilers and other tools?
    Please, make sure they work. For example, run the following commands:
    cc -V
    CC -V
    f90 -V
    collect -V
    dbx -V
    dmake -v
    (Note: the last one is small "v")

  • Installing Sun Studio 11 on Gentoo linux?

    I have been having problems attempting to install Sun Studio 11 on Gentoo. I emerge'd "alien", with the hope that I could trick the installation program into using it, but that doesn't work. I get all kinds of java errors (I am using sun-jre-bin 1.5 update 3).
    Is there a way to actually get these various and sundry .rpm packages on the system? There seem to be an awful lot of them.
    Thanks!

    __END_NAMESPACE_C99
    When I comment this line out, that particular error does not show up but still the other errors above still show up.
    From the testing I did, it appears to have these problems for most of the C++ programs I have written, especially the ones that involve object oriented programming. All programs that I wrote do not have these problems with g++ or Sun CC for Solaris. It does however work fine only for small fraction of the programs I have written. I dont quite understand why it works in some cases and others it doesnt, but I know for sure, that it should be working for all cases when Sun CC from Sun Studio 10 on Solaris 10 for X86 has no problems compiling the same programs.

    I tried workaround number 2 from the 3 choices that were listed by horsh. That fixes the mathcalls.h problem but still I have the following errors.

    Can someone please respond? There is more to the problem. Perhaps
    there are more glibc headers that have problems. In addition, if Sun wants to port the Sun Studio Compilers for linux to be stable on all linux distributions I suggest using VM ware and installing several linux distrobutions as virtual machines and testing this software on each virtual machine to see the problems that occur on each distribution. That way you might be able to uncover more problems to find a solution that will work best for portability on all linux distributions.

  • How to install sun studio 12 under Centos 5???

    HI, all,
    I am trying to install Sun Studio 12 into Centos 5. The followings are what I did:
    1. Download sun studio 12 package by selecting Linex (x86) for Centos from web site and save this package under /var/tmp.
    2. I used bzcat to unpack this package by:
    bzcat < SunStudio12ml-linux-x86-200709-pkg.tar.bz2 | /bin/tar xvf -
    3. I did prepare_system before installation by:
    ./prepare_system [-d /opt/sun/ ] [-R /var/tmp/ ] [-C | -s netbeans | java | patches | all_patches | jdk_patches | all | print_needed_steps ]
    where [-d /opt/sun/ ] is the directory where all missing softwares will be installed, [-R /var/tmp/ ] is the directory where unpacked programs are saved.
    After running prepare_system, the resposes are:
    bash: -s: command not found
    bash: patches: command not found

    Hi,
    Thank you for your helps.
    According to your suggestions, I downloaded JDK 6 update 10 RC, specifical in Linux platform : self-extracting JDK file named:
    jdk-6u10-bin-b28-linux-i586-21-jul-2008.bin
    I saved downloading under the directory where sun studio is located.
    I used
    yum search jdk
    to find jdk exists in Centos 5.2 shown as the message as:
    [root@localhost sun]# yum search jdk

    I figured it out by looking at the application server logs on the admin console. The problem was a permissions issue. I'm working with some plug-ins from ESRI (the gis software company) for ArcGIS Server 9.2. I forgot that you have to add some lines to the server.policy file (located at:
    /<install directory>/SunAppServer8/domains/creator/config/
    The text you have to add is
    grant {
    permission java.util.logging.LoggingPermission "control","";
    permission java.lang.RuntimePermission "*","read";
    permission java.util.PropertyPermission "PEOBJEDITHOME","read,write";
    permission java.util.PropertyPermission "ARCGIS_RELEASEALL_SHUTDOWN_HOOK","read,write";
    permission java.util.PropertyPermission "ARCGIS_IUNKNOWN_VARIENT_OBJECTS","read,write";
    So there you go.

  • -nodisplay bug with Sun Studio 10 for Linux installer

    I'm currently trying to install a trial Sun Studio 10 for Linux on a Fedora Core 3 box. I want the installer to run via the command line, so I use "./installer -nodisplay", but I get the following error message:
    java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /home/pacey/SS10/.install/jvm_1.4.2/j2re1.4.2_06/lib/i386/libawt.so: libXp.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    libXp is part of the X window system, but I've specified -nodisplay. A non-graphics option shouldn't be trying to load graphics libraries - looks like a bug. Anyway, as I don't have version 6 of that lib on my system, I'm stalled on this. Any suggestions?

  • Sun Studio 11 on Linux: newbie needs help playing the Temple of the Sun

    Hi!
    I've installed Sun Studio 11 on Mandriva 2007.1 Free edition. I would like to play the Temple of the Sun game but the building process fails consistently.
    I tried to follow the instructions on the following page
    http://developers.sun.com/sunstudio/learning/temple_faq.html#
    but still no joy.
    The wizards throughout the building process request much more parameters than those indicated on the FAQ page.
    This is the makefile

    Could someone more successful with this game please provide more detailed instructions on how to proceed?
    I should get a string somehow which I should paste into the answer window on the game page.
    Thanks a lot in advance.

    Hi
    CC = gccYou are using gcc. Switch to using the Sun Studio toolset, and all should be well.

    Here is the compilation script, it downloads and extracts the source tree and builds it (it assumes Sun Studio Express is installed in /opt/sun):

    gmake -j > build.log 2>&1Any idea about what is going wrong?
    Thanks.

    Possibly the actual CC (or cc) command lines are not correct. The proper way to say not to link libCstd is the command-line option -library=no%Cstd. Then you don't need to add the default system libraries like -lc to the command line.
    Can you show the actual CC command lines that are generated by the makefile? They should be in the compilation log. I'd also like to see the command line(s) used to create dynamic libraries, if any, and the final executable.

  • Installed Sun studio 12.2. ran 'discover' command on C++ code.Gives warning

    Hi,
    I installed Sun studio 12.2. I compiled C++ code with C++ 5.11 compiler, and ran discover command as shown below:
    > #CC -g -O2 test.cpp
    > #discover -w - a.out
    > discover (warning): a.out will be analyzed in lite mode because it has no annotations. See discover documentation for compiler flag/OS recommendations
    I get the discover warning. After runnig discover command, I executed ./a.out. On cosole, only memory leaks will be displayed and no other error.
    Any reason why discover gives warning??????????????????

  • Basic vs Standard componets in Sun Studio Creator

    Hello,
    I am fairly new to JSF and trying to build a JSF webapplication. I am using Sun Studio Creator
    I would like to know what is the difference between the Basic and Standard components...is there a specific one I should be using, or any would be fine ?
    Thank you very much for the help.

    Yes you can create Portlets for JBoss Portal using JSC as I have been doing a project with it! However, it isn't quite straightforward as exporting a war file. You need to delete a couple of JSC exported files, create at least 2 JBoss specific files to make it work in JBoss Portal. Then to use the user restrictions part of JBoss Portal i.e. assigned specific portlets to specific users, you will need to create another file. I'll post on this in due course (once I've found my crib sheet!).
    There are a couple of issues though especially with the table components.:
    The BASIC table in JSC gives you a sort by column and this sends out a stream of error messages in JBP when it is used. Fortunately, the workaround is to just untick the table "sortable" box. That removes the sorting ability and the table works fine as does the paging ability. You can also set the number of rows returned. The major issue you will discover about the BASIC table component is that the empty message i.e. no results returned/found will also give you an endless stream of error data. I worked around it by running a separate SQL query to get a result and then allow the page with the table to be shown otherwise redirect it. Not exactly elegant but it works. The STANDARD table component does not give this error. You don't see these any of errors when deployed in the Pluto portal that comes with JSC.
    I also found that the choice of database is also an issue. JBoss recommends Postgresql but although it did work to a point in JSC, it did throw up an error with dropdown databinding (no idea!). So I changed to Mysql 5 which works fine in JSC but JBP requires a small workaround but prefers Mysql 4. If you're asking why not stick with v4? Well my project required the use of Views which aren't available in v4 let alone foreign keys. Think "compromise" and you will be fine!
