Installing Text-to-Speech

Hello,
I'm currently using Captivate 4 and am trying to download and install the text-to-speech software, following the instructions in the following tutorial:
http://www.robowizard.com/RoboWizard/Tutorials/Captivate/TTS.htm
Everything is great until I get to step 19. Instead of installing the voices, I get an error that states "Install Adobe Captivate 4 before installing Neo Speech Text to Speech.", though clearly I have already installed Captivate 4. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jessica

Hi Rick,
I downloaded it from here:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/857/cpsid_85714.html (it took some digging to find this), but it does look like the correct thing...
Thank you,
Jessica

  • Error when trying to install text-to-speech

    Hello,
I have spent a good amount of time on this board as well as on the internet at large to try to find an answer to my issue.  I found the great Captivate movie posted in the forums to walk users through the install process of Captivate's text to speech, but I'm having a problem when I get to installing the executable file.
When I double click on Captivate4_NeoSpeech.exe, I receive this error:
The screen shot may be hard to read- the text is "The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005).  Click on OK to terminate the application."
I am suspecting that it has something to do with my computer set-up rather than the exe file, but I was hoping someone could help me out.  I am at a loss.
I am running windows XP SP3.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give!
    Sarah

    Hi there
Please take a moment and file a Bug report to Adobe. After you do this, you may find that someone on the Adobe team will contact you with more information. I'm not claiming it works in all cases, but you never know. Maybe they will come back to you with a suggestion. Certainly won't hurt to try.

  • Download problem on Text to Speech

I have Captivate 4 loaded and did not originally install Text to Speech. I have installed the download multiple ways, but prior to that I was getting the following error message: The Application failed to Initialize properly (0vc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application. I followed the Captivate 4 module instructing me to go and get the trial version and execute the download file which I did, but when I go to my project to convert text to speech, it tells me I need to do a download again.

    Hi Linda
Did you fully watch the tutorial? I ask because it's possible that you saw the first part and concluded it just walked you through what you have already done. The thing is, you download and run a file. But all you have downloaded and run are the INSTALL files for the Text To Speech. You have to then navigate to where the install files were placed and launch the installer to actually install TTS.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Can I stop the slide audio (text to speech) when a quiz feedback caption with audio appears?

Hi there, We use text to speech on all our slides, however there is a problem we have been unable to solve.  If we have audio on a quiz slide this continues to play when the feedback caption comes up.  This means that if a learner clicks the answer quickly they hear the slide text and the caption text on top of each other.  How can I stop the slide audio if the feedback caption appears.  We have tried advanced actions to "stop triggered audio" and experimented with invisible text captions that have the audio added but have not solved it so far.  Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this? Any help gratefully received, Many thanks Janet
PS We are using Captivate 8 with the installed Text to Speech voices

This is currently a common problem with audio in quiz slides of Captivate modules.
The configuration options for interactive objects on quiz slides to not allow the same level of control for audio playback that you have with normal interactive objects on other slides.  (e.g. being able to stop other audio when something is clicked).
The Stop Triggered Audio action is often misunderstood.  But as its name clearly indicates, it really only applies to stopping an audio clip that was TRIGGERED by another advanced action.  That doesn't apply to background audio, slide level audio, or object level audio.
My suggestion is that you go back to your design and work out which of the two audio clips (the slide or the feedback audio) you can do without.  Maybe your learners don't need them quite as much as you think.

  • How do I install the text to speech voices in Captivate 7 trial

I am on day 2 of the 30-day trial.  I downloaded the voice zip files, but can't seem to get them recognized/installed in the trial version.  How do I do this?
    Thanks.

    Hi there,
If you have downloaded the voices for Captivate 7, then it has downloaded the zipped file for Text to speech installer.
You need to extract that zipped file to a folder first, then inside that folder there is setup.exe file, double click on setup.exe to start the installation. (Captivate should be closed while installing voices)
Note: The set up of text to speech  are different for Captivate 7 32 bit and Captivate 7 64 bit, so make sure that you have downloaded the appropriate one.
    Thanks.

  • Problems installing german text-to-speech package ...

    Hi guys,
recently, I bought the new Navigator 6710. Everything works fine, except for the missing text-to-speech package in German. So I decided to download and install it via cellphone and PC. Neither of those options were successful. The installation finishes stating "Installation successful", yet there is no new entry for the German voice (e.g. Jürgen or Nicole).
I was quite desperately looking for an answer so far, but wasn't able to find one, yet. I hope you guys are able to help me findig a solution.
    Thanks in advance,
    Freddy

Thank you Vikram, you helped me a lot.
So i only have to install the text to speech products and their voices are then available in captivate?
Does anyone has experience with such programs or knows voices that sound really good. I like the voice of Stefan from Loquendo.
But i don't find where to buy it and the serviceteam didn't respond.

  • Text to speech are not installed

I have installed Captivate 4 as well as the Adobe_Captivate
    _4_Cont 448 meg text install.
I am running XP and had it working on my computer before I
reformatted the hard drive. Everything else seems to be working
properly, yet I get the not installed error message when I atempt
to utilise the text to speech option. I can see where I can use
either Kate or Paul, yet it still tells me that the speech voices
are not installed. Does anyone know what can I do to get it
    working? Thanks for any feedback.

    Hello there,
My best recommendation would be to report this issue to the

  • Text-to-speech no longer working in any PDF apps in Mac 10.8.5.

Text-to-speech is no longer working in any PDF apps in Mac 10.8.4/5.  Does anyone know the software component that passes highlight text over to the speech synthesiser?   How is this process different in PDF's compared to any other text format?
So far I have tried Preview, Skim, PDFView, Safari, Evernote and Adobe Reader with the result: silence.  The only defference being Adobe Reader which speaks the name of the document and not the highlighted text.  I've re-applied the Mac OS10.8.5 como-update, fixed prefs, ran FSCheck and changed user.  I've tried every method of triggering the text-to-speech function (including custom scripts). Text-to-speech works perfectly in every other respect exept when working with PDF's. When Maveriks arrives I will do a clean install and rebuild my data manually which I'm pretty certain will fix the problem but it would be extremely rewarding to find an actual solution and learn something in the process.

Rawr! I got it to work, sort of. I think I tried so hard because I hated the thought of using alsa-oss. And I discovered a couple bugs in spd-conf! Does anyone care? lol
Basically, I redid my TTS-related configs & put them under ~/ instead of /usr/share, and ran "festival --server" & "speech-dispatcher -s" as a normal user. I also added myself to the "audio" group somewhere along the line, but I don't think that was the issue.
I'm almost afraid to reboot, because, although speech-dispatcher can be started at boot-time through rc.conf's DAEMONS array, I don't think festival can---at least, not in the same way as it can on distros that have the script /etc/default/festival. I'm about to see if I can track down that file, and hope I don't break everything somehow.
KTTSMgr still doesn't see any synthesizers, but I got past the "dummy module" message. Now I'm hoping I'll get some help from someone who actually knows what to do (as opposed to me).
    Take care, all
    H
P.S One small complaint: Although my speechd.conf specified port 6561, speech-dispatcher's tests showed that it was looking for a connection on port 6560 first, before scanning to find the real port. I had to change to port 6560 to stop the behaviour, even though I never customized the port number in the first place.

  • Any third party apps to highlight words on Mac as they're read by the built in Text-to-Speech?

    Hello everyone,
I want to use my Mac to it's full potential!  And I believe this is the community that can help.  Is there a way for my mac to highlight the words which are read by the built in text-to-speech voices?
I really love the VoiceDream application for the iPad, and I'm looking for an equivalent or isotope of similar features on the Mac.
The answers to this question can benefit:
1.)  People who have trouble reading without voice-over.
2.)  Foreign language learners who want to follow along as the text is being read.
3.)  People who have difficulty focusing while they read.
If you know of any amalgamation of solutions to this problem, I will really appreciate it!  I am currently experimenting with using text-to speech as a way to read my textbooks for better comprehension and to remember more information. I really don't want to move to the VoiceDream app because everything is centralized on my Mac, and I like the variety of voices already available for free on the Mac.
I recently got my MacBook Air mid-2014 Model with OSX 10.9.4 installed, so this is what I'm working with.
As a last resort, if there is a solution that will work on a Windows computer, I can install Parallel Desktop to take advantage of an application if it has a comprehensive solution that would make it worth it to install that platform.
The perfect solution would really be if there was a Mac version of VoiceDream Reader, but seeing as there isn't, I would love to find out how I can make due with what is out there, or maybe even petition some software developers to create a solution to this problem that would enhance the study-toolbox of students and life-long learners.
Thank-you for any answers.  I appreciate the community vibe!

Did you have a look at GhostReader. It works in demo mode for 14 days to test it.

  • Can not get Text-to-Speech to work

I can not get Text-to-Speech to work. In "Settings", I can go into "Voice input & output", then to "Voice Output; Text-to-speech settings" and then to "Install voice data; Install the voice data required for speech synthesis" but it is "grayed out". I have downloaded Pico TTS several times and I have soft-reset and hard-reset the device several times. Still no text-to-speech
Any thoughts on what I can do to get text to speech to work?

Odd.... I tried both Vlingo and Handcent and neither of those did Text to speech either. Very odd. I am using same Bluetooth headset that worked on my other HTC device.
    Any other thoughts?
Did you activate InCar in Vlingo?  I just checked this and it works for me.  Once you activate InCar, you should hear "Vlingo InCar".
If Vlingo InCar doesn't work for you, have you considered getting another Bluetooth headset that has the ability to read texts to you, like the Blueant Q2?

  • CP 5 text to speech--purchased voices integrated directly?

    Hi,
I am hoping someone from Adobe will answer this question definitively for me (or someone who has figured this out and tested it). Let's say I have to add text-to-speech to a software demo and provide the demo in, say, five different languages. I have English, French, and German available to me in CP5. But I also need Spanish and Japanese. So I purchase the Spanish and Japanese voices from another TTS vendor (pick a vendor, it shouldn't matter, right?). QUESTION: will the purchased Spanish and Japanese voices be available directly in Captivate just like the voices that came with Captivate?
    Thanks!
    Joel

From the Adobe Captivate Help file:
Using third-party voices for speech text
You can purchase voices from third-party vendors and use them seamlessly in Adobe Captivate.
Note: Ensure that these voice comply with your operating system’s speech APIs.
Install the voices on your computers using the installers provided by the vendors. The new installed voices get listed in the Speech Agent list of the Audio > Speech Management dialog box.
    I read that as YES.

  • Use Chromium OS text-to-speech voices with Chromium browser

    ...and he's at it again!
TL;DR chromium-ext-chromiumos-tts-git - all TTS voices from Chromium OS for use with Chromium desktop browser. Install as unpacked extension (no more auto-install, sorry, damn you Google!)
So you've heard about the text-to-speech capabilities of Chromium OS, and you would like to use them with your desktop browser?
Perhaps you have dyslexia, a visual disability, or just a desire to learn a new language, have Web pages read out to you, or you simply want to show off your digital-fu to your friends?
Then you may have noticed that the Chrome web store does have plenty speech synthesizers from third parties, but in most countries, the one from Google usually shows up with just one voice (US English).
For those who don't (want to) speak English, are bi-/multilingual, or who just are more open-minded with regards to the world's languages, here's my way to help make this happen: chromium-ext-chromiumos-tts-git on the AUR.
This extension packages the TTS engine and all the voices available from the Chromium OS project...as a Chromium extension.
    To install it:
Download the taurball, build and install the package
    In Chromium, browse to chrome://extensions
Enable Developer mode by ticking the box
Click the button named "Install unpacked extension..."
    Navigate to /usr/share/chromium/extensions/chromium-ext-chromiumos-tts
    Click on Open
That's it, you should now have a new extension named "Chromium OS Text-to-speech (by Google)" enabled and ready to use.
Note: Before rushing off to try out some HTML5 / TTS demos out there on the Web, please realize that not all of them work well (or at all), since text-to-speech on the Web is quite new and still in development.
The easiest way to get a quick glimpse (or rather soundbite) of what this thing can do, is to install the ChromeVox extension from the Google web store. After installation, click on its Options link, scroll down to Voices, and try out the different languages from the listbox.
Suggestions, questions, etc. are very welcome.
    Enjoy :-)

To make it clear, this is not ripped, reverse-engineered, "warez" or anything like that. It uses publicly available material from the Chromium OS project, and modifies only BSD-licensed source files.

  • Captivate 4 text to speech function

I just downloaded the trial version for Captivate 4. I
specifically wanted to see the new text to speech function that
they have added to it. When I downloaded it and tried to use it, I
