Installing the latest update... argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I swear this is why I ran from Windows.... every software update for Leopard has gone bad for me. On two occasions now I have had to reinstall the original 10.5 Leopard when the updates went south. This time, about halfway thru the process, the screen got full of horizontal and vertical lines and it locked up. Had to power down, and start to reinstall the original Leopard again. Only now the install says I don't have enough HD space. And I can't get to the files to move them to my external HD. I am more than a little annoyed here. This is an integral part of my business, and I left Windows because I was tired of all of this and because every experience I have had with MAC was great.... until now. Leopard is not ready for prime time - that is the only conclusion I can arrive at. And my business is going to suffer unless I can get thru this. If I can go to Tiger - all my friends have Tiger and no issues - and throw Leopard in the can I will. I have to do something - can you tell my frustration?

ok... it's now almost 10 PM in Atlanta Ga. I have been wrestling with this stuff all day long.
Here was the problem:
Bought Macbook with Leopard in December. It arrived at my house... much rejoicing and clapping of hands. Powered it up right out of the box... looked great!!!!!!
I bought it primarily for music so jumped right into Garageband... flyin high.
I noticed that the MAC would simply reboot at random moments throughout the day, no particular reason or software that I could see that was causing the problem.....
Then I got the first update 10.5.1.... Garageband started freezing up, other apps would simply stop working and I would get the msg...."** stopped unexpectedly..." I would reboot the app and I was ok after that.
Things got so weird that I just reinstalled 10.5 off of the install disks ...OS and apps... and reinstalled the update to 10.5.1. Still random rebooting and apps stopping unexpectedly.
10.5.2 update.... screen went all squirrelly... vertical and horizontal color bands overwhelming the screen, accompanied by my howls of protest. Mac freezes up. I power it off....
Came to this forum, vented, got some advice and even got slapped around a bit.... ok - deserved it... but I was truly hacked at the time I posted.
Anyway the advice I was given was twofold:
1. Power up the mac with the install CD in it, holding down the "D" key. Run the hardware diagnostics. I chose the extensive diagnostic testing... took 1 1/2 hour to run. No issues. I then was left with only one option I could see...
2. to erase and install 10.5. Fortunately I had backed up all my files onto my 500 gb Maxtor ext drive, so erasing the hd wouldn't mess me up permanently.
So that is what I did.
This has been an all day event, and so far all my apps have worked ok, no rebooting. But I will have to keep an eye on it for the next few days. I will say that currently it is faster than it was, so perhaps it was an ugly setup at the factory. Time will tell. As of right now, the MAC is back, no files lost, and I'm going to bed.

Try a reset which is similar to a computer restart and is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously you see the Apple logo and then release.

My iPhoto keeps crashing after installing the latest update, can't do anything! It used to crash when importing but now I'm at the point where I open the software and after 2 seconds it crashes (nothing connected either). What to do? Can't access any photos
Try this: launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If you can create a new library and import some test photos then the problem lies with your original library.
If that's the case make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If iPhoto crashes while trying to create a new library then try this:
Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.

3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
If that fails to help a reinstall of iPhoto is indicated. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/ folder,

Then install iPhoto from the disk it came on originally and apply all relavant updaters.
P.S. If you're still running Tiger, 10.4.6, then the above may not apply. If you're running a newer system you should update your profile so we have a better idea of where you're at.

since installing the latest update, Firefox first operated with some errors but now will not load at all; it gives me the following error --

please note that the words "utton ID" are exactly as the error message gives it; and at the end of the message there are exactly 19 hyphens.
I don't know why this faulty code is referencing things to do with "chrome"... the Chrome browser is not installed on this PC or anywhere on our network.
Also, this is not the first problem I had after clicking Firefox's prompt for the latest update. Before Firefox retreated into this error message, it was loading but running with some faults...
1. the bookmark symbol was not appearing on the right hand side of the URL line, so I had always to click on "bookmark this page", after which the bookmark symbol did appear; however I don't know if the bookmarking function worked properly.
2. the back and forward buttons were not highlighted, as if I had not come from a previous page; so once I clicked on a link to a new page I could not go back to where I came from because Fiefox thought I hadn't come from anywhere.
3. there may have been other errors, but I did not find them.
How do I reinstate my Firefox program to work properly please? do I have to download the latest version and reinstal? if so, do I have to remove the old version first? or is there a fix?
Even to write this message I have been forced to use (yuk -- I don't like to say this!!!) Internet Explorer. So please -- I need help urgently.

NOELSome how I solved my problem by opening a user account and downloading Firefox 4.0 beta and installing it, I did try it, worked fine, so I did close the user account and did go back to my own account(switched user), the main page that I had problem with Firefox which would not open, I dabble click on Firefox it start working again!! I hope that solves your problem too.

I installed the latest update to my phone. Half way through it asked to connect to itunes. After updateing it had some type of error and wanted me to restore the phone. After restoring, another error box popped up and said that it could not be restored. Now it won't connect to itunes or my computer at all and is nothing but the black start up screen with the apple logo, or it's just a white screen. What happened?

After I installed the latest update, MSVCR80 was not installed and itunes will not work
After I installed the latest updat to itunes, it did not install properly. I received the following messages:

Itunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall itunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126)
When I click on the itunes icon, I get the following message:

Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above then search the computer for copies of the file QTMovieWin.dll - you should only have one copy in the relevant folder for your system.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support (62-bit Windows)
Delete any others and not only should this fix the problem, but prevent it from recuring on subsequent updates.

I am using Firefox 3.6.8. Oddly, my problem appeared a few hours PRIOR to Firefox automatically installing the latest updates (the week ending 7/23), not afterwards. The problem is this: the browser continues to display tabs, the reload/home/history/favorites icons, URL field and Google search field while in full-screen mode, so it's not really full-screen anymore. How can I correct this?
