Installing the Zen Xtra (30

I installed the Creative Media Source before plugging my Zen XTRA and my computer says it has found new hardware, I am then prompted to install the new hardware, I accept and it searches but then says it cannot find the necessary software. I installed all updates to my OS but it still can't install.

You mentioned that you installed MediaSource, but did you install the drivers too? (Found on the installation cd OR from nomadworld.com for newest version)

  • Strategies to keep the Zen Xtra cover from popping o

OK - I had heard that the Zen Xtra cover pops off easy before I bought it and thought it couldn't be all that bad
But it seems like all I have to do is touch my player sometimes and the cover pops off
I put a piece of tape on the latch on the bottom so I couldn't jostle it just as soon as I got it and saw what a hair trigger it was - but it seems like sometimes I just pick it up (maybe squeezing the sides a bit) and the cover pops off?
My refurbished Zen Xtra didn't come with a case - maybe that helps prevent the cover from popping?
Any other strategies or fixes from folks who have dealt with this irritating feature? (Sound quality wise I'm VERY happy with it... but I can see where this might continue to be a major annoyance over time)

  • I can't install the Zen nano Plus software on my pc. He

Hi,I've read some people have the same problem I do, but no solutuion. When I try to install the zen nano plus cd that came in the package, it comes up with a window saying : "the windows operating system running on this computer is not supported by this product". The nano plus is supposed to work with windows ME which I have?and I think I meet all the other requirements. Could they have mislabeled a cd?I tried installing it with the antivirus turned off with ca antivirus. Thanks for any help,Joe?

I just went to the page?http://us.creative.com/support/downl...ype=0&x=29&y=6and downloaded the Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2 file after filling all the info out in the drop down menus. I just installed it and I was good to go. The only issue I really had was installing the application from the CD which I mentioned earlier. But the application from the website installed with no problem whatsoever. I wish I could tell you something that would help as I know your frustration. Are you sure you downloaded the correct version for ME?You might ask someone if you really need this application to put music on you device because it seems like your device just acts like another dri've and you can just drag and drop into your device. I'm not sure about that so ask st so it doesn't mess up you player.or you might be able to use some other apllication to transfer your files to the player?Good luck and be persistent,JoeMessage Edited by joenanoplus on 2-26-200608:3 AM

  • How Come on the zen xtra

How come on the zen xtra there is no "top 25 played" playslit or anything like that. i was recently playing around with a micro and i saw that there were playlist like that on the player. Can anyone answer that question for me?

I have been experiencing some extraordinary behavior with my Xtra. It seems to be deliberately choosing music for me based on genre, title info, even subject matter, when I randomize all tracks. This is no joke! The **bleep** thing knows my music better than I do, and some of the time it seems to be making fun, or even historical points, with some of my musical tracks. This could be a coincidence but with 5000 tracks representing every musical genre known it isn't likely. Could the firmware be capable of making these decisions based on track-tagging? I don't know. But it has made for some very interesting listening sessions.

  • Play for Sure for the Zen Xtra slow song transf

Since I updated the firmware for the Zen 60gig xtra to support the Play For Sure encryption, it has very slow song transfers. I am trying to transfer about 4500 songs. It does the first 000 normal then it is like 5 mins for each one after that. So it takes like 4 days to transfer. Is there some kind of patch or driver change I need to make?

Just an update, transfer is still goin good, so all of you that are having those hangs and slow downs this 3 hot fixes posted in this forum under the MTP Thread seem to work for me. However, being a Regional IT Manager I know that what works for one computer doesnt always apply. I remember seeing the IMPORTANT Note just before I downloaded the firmware and I thought, naw... I dont need any updates, I do my Microsoft Updates so im cool, but the hotfixes mentioned are not CRITICAL updates so you have to manually apply them. In my opinion this is not really a Creative issue since they are depending on the files from the Play For Sure protocal and those are coming from Microsoft, so they have to kind of rely on whats out there and unfortunately for us poor *******s to update. I am wondering if they can include the hotfixes in their install? SOmething that would detect to see if the hotfix is present and if not, install? Just a thought, or at least prompt you to go get the hotfix first then install.

  • Questions regarding the Zen Xtra 60GG HDD Playe

I am thinking about getting a HDD mp3 player. So far, Creative Zen Xtra 60GB and iAudio M3 are my final two choices. Creative is long known for its sound related product so I thought it should have good sounds quality even though I have not yet try any of its players. iAudio, in the other hand, I have tried before and the bass is simply amazing even with some crappy headphone. iAudio seemed to be nice for its long lasting battery (the actual use is approx 0 hrs) and its slim size. However, Zen Xtra seemed to be a good choice as well for its price (which is the most important thing anyway... ) as well as the large capacity since I will use this as a portable HDD. The following are just some questions that I think only the actual owner can answer:
. How long is the actual battery life for this player?
    2. Does this player require the Creative software or driver to be installed in order for it to be connected with computer and transfer files, or it is trully a plug-n-play?
    3. Does it have a relati'vely strong bass?
Thank you very much for answer my questions~~~If there are some better mp3 player that would suit my need, please let met know as well. I am open to suggestions.

. For the Xtra it's around 2 hours, but this is benchmarked using 4 minute 28 kbit/s MP3 files. If you have higher bit-rate files, use WMAs etc. the battery life will be reduced accordingly.
    2. Yes, it needs both drivers and software. A firmware release is purported to be coming which will allow driverless access, but only with Windows XP, and of course there's no 00% guarantee it will be released.
    3. The bass enhancement via the EQ is anecdotally not good. If you have heaphones with good bass response this is about as much as you can do.

  • Cases for the Zen Xtra and which online servi

I just bought a Zen Xtra 30 GB and would like to get some safe way of carrying it when I jog. Either a fanny pack or arm band. Has anyone seen these. If so where? Also what online services work with this device. I saw Napster works directly with the micro.

I've not seen either specifically for the Zen, but I'm sure you can get a generic belt based case from something like a camera shop. Or use a case e.g. Vaja, that has a belt connector.
Currently the Xtra will support any service that uses normal WMA DRM (or of course the very few that use MP3). It won't support PlayForSure (and Janus DRM) yet, but a new firmware is supposed to bring this. See the FAQ.

  • Does MediaSource and the zen xtra support secure WMA fil

I bought a CD that uses some encryption utilities from a company called sunncomm (real blockheads @ that company, from the tech support to the VP by the way) It would seem that I'm able to download the "digital keys" from their web site however I get the message "license required" when I try to copy the songs to my zen extra using mediasource.
Anyone ever had experience with this?
....and for the record I would not recommend buying any CD's that are using this company's (sunncomm)system, or anything from RCA records. In their effort to thwart illegal distribution the two have decided to punish those of us who legally purchase their products and simply want to listen to it in our preferred format and on our preferred players. I really don't listen to anything on CD anymore, as my CD's just get loaded onto my player, in fact I'd taken the CD player out of my car all together and the zen is the only thing that gets played there. Without the ability to transfer the songs from CD to my player what I wind up with is a fifteen dollar coaster

The CD is Contraband from Velvet Revolver. It's released on the RCA label under BMG music. The name of the company that delevloped and runs the protection software is SunnComm. I'm working on a list of other titles and artists that have this installed on their releases well. CL product users may find that useful as a list of titles to avoid.
The thing that is really bothersome is that nowhere on the CD did it indicate this protection was there when I bought it. Only when I popped it into my PC did it become evident. This as it turns out would have been a bit different if I owned an ipod, as since ipod has it's issues with WMA files to begin with they don't even pretend to support anything related to ipod. While that's a move that I'm sure CL thinks is just fine, it's seems like a bit of a bonehead move for the record company. What really irks me about sunn comm it they are quite frankly lying about what their product does, it does NOT allow someone who has legally bought a music release to listen to that release on a digital player like they it does ... which as a consumer is a right I expect to have when I purchase music in any format. I've spoke with several people at sunn comm and they are of no help and obviously do not care about any issues a consumer has with their product. I'm also in contact with RCA and BMG about this mistake they are making in not properly informing consumers about what their product actually is. I'm not a music pirate, I bought their release intending it only for my own personal use, but they have turned the simple act of buying music in to a week long Odyssey and headache. No one at Sunn Comm or BMG seems to understand that which does not bode well for for either company or industry.

  • Safest way to update the Zen Xtra's firmwa

I am running a Creative NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra (earlier, non-PFS firmware) on an XP machine with Windows Media Player .
What is the safest way to update my player's firmware so that I can use PFS?

uynless you realy realy want the palys for sure firmware, or you need ti to work with vista you would be better off leaving it as it is.
if you must update the firmware do this:
back up everything on your player ( you should have a back up anyway ) going to the PFS 2.x.x firmware will completly wipe ( format) the hard disk.
go to control panel, then add/remove programmes, remove windows media player and windows media player runtime, it will 'rollback' to windows media player 0, re-boot your p.c.
check the add/remove porgammes again just to be sure that WMP and WMP runtime are not lurking..
Charge your Zen xtra, and leave it conected to the charger.
Download the firmware, and follow the on screen prompts, cross your fingers and hope for the best.

  • Many questions about the Zen Xtra 30

I have 4 questions: . Do you have to use EAX to have your songs play at the same sound level?
I was reading somewhere(dont remember, I think the online product manual) and it said if you use the EAX technology, then your songs will all play at the same sound on the Zen, rather than depend on how the sound level was at when the song was recorded. I dont have the right sound card, so I cant use EAX.
    2. Does the Zen make any sounds when you push any of the buttons?
I plan on using this during study hall and i dont want some beep to get me caught.
    3. Can you delete songs off the Zen without loading them back onto a computer?
3.5 If you can delete a song without a computer, does the Zen recycle the space into free space?
4.Where do you get your music from online?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

.) The EAX function on the Xtra has an option to limit sound volume for all songs when enabled. I found this to be useful when listening late at night (so loud drum clashes aren't louder than everything else, for example)... I'm not sure I fully understand your question but I hope that answered it.
2.) It does not make any noise when clicking the buttons. It's pretty silent; you can only notice light "clicks" from button pushing if the room is completely silent and you listen very closely. The clicks from depressing the buttons surely won't disturb anyone around you, though.
    3.) Yes.
3.5.) When it's deleted, it's erased... so you'll have the amount of free space as if the song wasn't there in the first place.
4.) I have my methods... Mostly a technique of getting MP3's from my Real Rhapsody subscription, though

  • Scroller Button - when on ZEN VISION? Its ace on the ZEN XTRA why do people use awkward touch pa

Do you prefer the inprecise touch pad or the fast button?
    Thanks

I just got a Zen nano plus with scroll button, and don't care much for it. If you don't press it exactly straight, you end up doing something you don't want, and in some cases it's a lot of work to recover (example...in the middle of an 8 hour audiobook, hit the button and accidentally go to the beginning of the file and start the whole book over, with no easy way to get back where you were).
My preference is the system used on Cowon's F...a little button/joystick in the center of a 4-button touch pad, and the functions of the joystick can be modified in the player setup (so if you push it the wrong way, it goes back/forward 30 seconds instead of to the beginning of the file or the next file).
I have friends who have not bought the Zen specifically because of the scroll button, so I'm not the only one who thinks it's not the best.

  • What windows services does the Zen Xtra depend

I was disabling services in WinXP to speed up and clean up what boots up in Windows and now my Zen stopped being recognized by the Nomad Explorer as well as MediaSource. MediaSource actually crashes completely now if the Zen is hooked up.
I'd hate to turn all my services back on but if someone knows right off hand, that'd be helpful. Thanks
    Jay

It's difficult to know with services because it could be piggy backing off something else.
The Creative CD ROM service is the only one I can think of that's directly Creative.
But I'd be interested to know if you find out...

  • Error in installing Jukebox Zen Xtra Dri

) My PC does not recognize my Nomad Jukebox following installation of Windows Media Player .2) I reinstall latest driver with no success.3) I updated driver from Device manager (because its marked with the exclamation mark) and I get an error that that the MTP device driver cannot be installed because one section of the service installation of this INF is invalid. Please advise. Thanks.

That sounds like a complete failure. My first one had a hard dri've error and had to be replaced. Fourtunately it was still under waranty, but its so old yours isn't anymore, is it's Sorry, but it sounds like a complete loss. Could get Creative to try to repair it for you or find a friend who knows electronics and get them to replace the hard dri've for you. Its old enough that if you can find the replacement hard dri've it shouldn't cost alot.

  • The Zen Xtra...its...frozen. please h

Ok here's the deal. I was listening to my music when I needed to charge it. So I turned off the player and hooked up the charger. Well, the player went back to the menu screen and when I tried to move the scroll, it didn't move. It won't even turn off. The light won't even go off. I need help. And like the name says: I need my music!!! So please help me!! Please!! Thanx.:robothappy:

Try taking out the battery and putting it back in. It should fire right back up when you turn it on.
I never turn my Xtra off or on while charging it. I also never let it go into idle shutdown mode while charging. If it's on, just pop on the charger and leave it alone. (Shutting down doesn't "really" shut down until the player has been idle for 24 hours as I understand it.)
Had mine a few months and the only time it ever froze was from doing that.Message Edited by LivNgD34Dgrl on 0-07-2005 06:36 AM
