Installing Third-Party Applications

My family wants to start downloading some games and third-party applications for our iMac. I am new to iMac system administration, so I have a few questions.
I want to install the download so that they will be accessible to everyone. Does this have to be done in the admin account? What is the difference between an admin or a non-admin user downloading software?

  • Installed third party applications not showing Application folder?

    Hi,
i've installed third party application outside from AppStore. i chosen "Anywhere" option on Gate keeper. however its not proper installation process hence how can i install? if i install third party application which is get .DMG file from some one else and installed. if i install those application its not displaying inside the Application folder on my Mac OS X 10.8.3.
    Please anyone suggest me,
    Thanks in Advance,
    Suresh Balakrishnan.

if i double click on Xcode icon, Xcode application lauched immediatly. however Xcode is not there in the Application folder.
Because you didn't drag and drop copy the app into the Applications folder, so your running it from the DMG instead.
A DMG is basically a disk image volume, like any other seperate hardware volume like a USB thumb drive, a external hard drive, or another partition, except it's virtual and based all in software.
If you don't know your way around a computer you shouldn't be using Xcode to begin with.

  • Should I install Third Party Applications?

    Hello Everyone!
Since my mac is messed up with other applications which is used to clean my system (Clean My Mac). Is it safe and recommended to install system cleaners to enhance the system? Because my alternate system cleaner is CCleaner. Could anyone tell me is it recommended to install system cleaner applications? Will system cleaners harm my system? Thanks!
    JimmyWong

OS X knows how to take care of itself by running some maintenance scripts during the early morning in order to keep the hard drive cleaner, so you don't need any cleaning application. I don't recommend them because sometimes they delete OS X files and you have to reinstall OS X or you lose files, so it's better not to use them

  • Installing third party application on Trusted Solaris 8

Does anyone know of a procedure describing the steps necessary to install an application into /usr/local/ on Trusted Solaris 8. I've managed to get directories and files created under this by switching between admin_high and admin_low workspaces. However, part of the process requires one of the binaries in a sub-directory under /usr/local/ to write to a file in another sub-directory under /usr/local. I have not found a way for this to successful execute.

    HI andouille07,
What application are you trying to install.
Have you tried fallowing this article?
    Enable DVD or CD Sharing
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1131
Enable DVD or CD Sharing should be performed on your desktop.
while "Use a shared DVD or CD:" should be on the air.
If you do not see the remote disk on the air. make sure both your desktop and macbook air are connected to the same network over wifi.
If that dose not work you could try making a disk image, and then coping the disk image to the flash drive and bringing the flash drive over to the other computer. assuming your desktop is a mac.
http://www.ehow.com/video4978318create-disk-image-mac-os.html explains how to make a disk image.
you can always purchase the external super drive as well.

Hi and welcome to the forums!
What Urumilton gave you was the ONLY procedure to remove an IT policy. A wipe will not remove the IT policy
Your other recourse is to box up the phone and return to sender.

  • Third party application forcing java stack to restart when logged in through SSO

    Hi

    Hi Manish,
Please check  the configuration once agian about the third party connection  and  the portal.
Also provide the "dev_server0" which under in directory /usr/sap/SID/J00/work and default trace which under in “/usr/sap/SID/J00/j2ee/cluster/server0/log" to analyze the issue. There is some other tool as well to check the issue using "httpwatch" log tool. But, mostly issue can be identified in dev_server0 or defalut trace".

  • How can I set up printing to queues on a Windows 2008 server directly from the iPad apps and not from third-party applications without using AppleTalk or Bonjour?

We have a Windows 2003/2008 server-based network with a dedicated print server which we would like to be able to print to over Wi-Fi.  How can I set up the printers on the iPad without downloading a third party application such as Print Central or Print N Share?  I want to just click the arrow and "Print" then choose the printer, which doesnt show up.  I want to be able to use the existing TCP/IP-based network that we have to reach these queues, not having to install Bonjour or AppleTalk to reach them.
    Thanks,
    KMQ7

This would really be the "Holy Grail"   right now.  I think this a feature that every large organization requires. AirPrint works on a small scale, but is not really an enterprise class application.  In addition it uses the Bonjour discovery process which is difficult in a large LAN WAN environment.  For those that would remind me, I am aware of the enhancement link

  • How do I disable auto-launch of third party applications (i.e. TeamViewer)  at startup?

I've loaded a few third party applications like TeamViewer which installed themselves as startup applications which I cannot disable in the system preferences login items.  The obvious answer is don't load these apps but that being said, how do I disable them now that they are loaded without uninstalling to prevent them from launching automatically during startup.  I can quit them after they launch but I'd like to prevent them from auto-starting during startup.  Any insight would be appreciated.

Look in TeamViewers preferences for this:
    Uncheck it.

  • Fonts not showing up in third party applications

    Hello All-
I am running OS 10.9.2 on Active Directory and I have 370 total fonts (Typefaces) installed. If I am logged into a local Admin account everything is fine but if I log in as an AD user then I am missing fonts in third party applications such as Word, Indesign CS6 and Photoshop CS6. They all show up in Text Edit and FontBook but I cant seem to get them to come up in these other applications. I have checked permissions to the Library>Fonts folder and they are set correctly. This also happens if I install any fonts under an AD user to that users Library>Fonts folder. Fontbook installs it, the font is there and I can see it in the folder and fontbook, but nowhere else. Any ideas on this would be helpful.
    Thanks!

    POSSIBLE SOLUTION
I'm not sure if this is the cause for anyone else, but I had the same symptoms--almost no fonts showing up in InDesigns Font dropdown options.
THE SOLUTION:  The new version of ID has two "font filter toggle button". They are the "Apply Favorite Filter", and "Apply Typekit Filter". It seem that in my install, the Typekit filter was on by default, which makes it so that the Font list only displays those fonts that originate from Typekit, as opposed to the thousand you have on your hard drive.
Click the toggle to turn off the filter and --zowee! All your fonts come right back.
I hope this helps some of you. It would also explain why people on both Macs and Windows boxes are having this issue.
    Best,
    Lance

  • Third Party Applications? What exactly are they?

    Right,
I've read alot about the Blue Screen that appears when Upgrading to OSX Leopard. I am intending on upgrading tomorrow when my external hard drive arrives so I can Clone my 10.4.11 onto the external hard drive and upgrade the cloned version first but would like to know if I can check in advance for any of these' Third party App's'? and what exactly are they?
    Regards,

A third party application is anything not made by Apple. It can also include products that Apple purchased fairly recently (some of those "Pro" apps) that weren't coded to Apple's specfications and haven't been well tested. Apple doesn't and shouldn't test their software with third party applications. It isn't their job to test other people's software. They probably make exceptions for things like Office and Photoshop, but that is a short list.
Most third party applications will be fine. The ones you have to worry about are those that ask for your password when you install them. They can then install any sort of incompatible software.
After you clone your hard drive, verify that you can boot from the external drive and all your data is there. If so, don't upgrade the external drive. Boot using the 10.5 DVD and immediately run Disk Utility and re-partition your internal hard drive to wipe it out completely. Then install Leopard. Do not use Migration Assistant. Re-install all your 3rd party applications that are 10.5 compatible. Be very careful about copying over from backup anything in a Library/Preferences folder. You can copy any preference file from a third party application back over - those are safe. Anything from Apple may have been upgraded. Only copy over the Apple files that you absolutely have to, such as your Mail folder and Address book file, for example.
It sounds like a lot of work but it will only take a couple of hours.

  • Installing Third Party Audio Units

Wonder if anybody can help. I have just bought a G5 Dual 2.3 and Logic Pro 7.1 I can not find any way of "installing" third party plug ins. I have checked the ones I have ( Waves Platinum for AU for OSX ) and they are valid for Logic 7. I have put several plugs in Applications , but they are not even appearing in Logic Audio Units Manager. Im probably missing something really simpe here. Im also having the same type of problem trying out "demo" versions of some new AU instruments e.g. X treme FX and MOTU MX4 Soft Synth ( that is appearing in Audio Unit Manager but will not open, so maybe its not valid for Logic yet?) Pleeeeeeease Help. Thanks. Paul

    Hey Paul & Welcome!
I don't quite understand what you mean when you say you can not find a way of "installing".
You should have installers for your AU's. If you doubleclick one of those, it should take you through the installation process. Apologies if this is what you have done, but I become a little suspicious when you say you have "put several plugs in your Applications folder". This is sometimes the right procedure when it comes to installing certain applications (e.g. Reason), but rarely or never the case with plug ins. You need an installer.
Now, If indeed you have gone through the installation process, it is still possible that the plug in question won't show up as available. As you rightly point out, it may be rejected by Logics AU Manager.
    Check in your following folders:
    HD/Library/Audio/Plug Ins/Components
    and,
    Home/Library/Audio/Plug Ins/Components
wich is were your AU's are supposed to be located.
If they are not there, they are not installed. If they are there, they should be scanned by AU Manager and be validated or refuted.
When you have checked the folders, you can open Logic and run AU Manager and check the status of your installed AU's. The ones that have failed or crashed can still be selected by checking the little box, with the risk of making Logic unstable. You will indeed get a warning every time you open logic, telling you how many failed AU's you're currently running.
So, check for installers, check your component folders and cross reference with the AU manager.
Again, sorry if this is at a beginner level for you, I could not quite make out where you're at.
    Good Luck!
    Erik

  • Unable to delete third party applications

I have several third party applications that i want to delete on my 8320 Curve. I've read many forum posts on the several ways of deleting them and i have hit a brick wall:
    1. The applications are not visible in Advanced Options > Applications, however their modules are when i choose to view > Modules. However when i select the modules which i want to delete, there is no delete option. (The option is there for other applications which i dont want to delete!!)
    2. Several of these applications were installed via PocketMac for Blackberry, and even those will not delete when i choose the uninstall option.
Is there any way of getting rid of these third party applications without resetting my Blackberry, or the use of a Windows program?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi...
You can backup your entire device and reload the os. Using the application loader, you can uncheck third party apps once you start the application loader and reload the device. You can use a third party tool like JL Commander to wipe the device prior to the reload and then reload the OS and then be given the opportunity to load what you want. You will have to make sure you have the latest OS that your provider has posted on the RIM download site.
    Good luck...
    H.

  • Moving third-party applications

As an administrator, how do I move a third-party application from the app Utility folder to the main Applications folder?  All I seem to get are copies of the app I want to move.  More than one copy of the app will cause problems when it is time for updates.

    Well, I stand corrected:
    I just tried the following:
    1) drag an application from the Applications folder to the Utilities folder and got this window:
If I hit authenticate, and then enter password, it is moved.
    2) tried to move an app from Utilities to Applications and it was copied (without any dialog).
I deduce from that behavior that this is a new "feature" in Lion. Regardless, I've learned over the years that it is best not to change/mess with the Applications folder. So I would not rearrange apps that have been installed in one or the other. If you have new third party apps you want to install, I would first create a new subfolder (such as "My Applications") and then direct the installer to that location.
And, the question is: how did your third party apps wind up in the Utilities folder in the first place? If you manually installed them there, I'd guess it would be ok to copy it to the other folder and then delete the original - but that is a guess. Try at your own risk.

  • ALL third-party applications crash upon save, open, or save as

Okay everyone, this is an odd one.
I recently installed photoshop CS6.  However, when I try to save my documents in CS6, CS6 freezes, then crashes without an error report.  The same thing happens if I try to open or 'save as' a document.  However, if the document was created in Gimp, I can right-click the image in finder, click 'open with' Photoshop, and then something weird happens - File>open still doesnt work (but I don't need it to, as I've opened the image I need) File>save as still crashes - but File>save and Command-S work fine.
I've spent the last few weeks searching for an answer on the adobe forums and found nothing that has solved my problem.  And then, something else happened.
Today I installed Python 3.3.  Brand new, fresh installation.  Started up my IDLE and typed in some code, then hit command-S.
The same thing happened - Python 3.3 froze, then crashed, also without an error report.  The exact same symtoms.
This got me thinking, so I opened up Openoffice 4.  This had been installed on my mac by my school's ICT services, and had never been opened before - a fresh installation.  Once again, saving a document in openoffice 4 also caused it to freeze, then crash.
So, I took my mac into the ICT department and got them to have a look at it.  They recommended repairing my disc permissions - which I did - and then, if that didn't work, reinstalling Maveriks.
I'm currently typing this on my mac, having spent the last 3 hours downloading and installing a fresh copy of Maveriks, and still I have the same problem.  Any third-party applications freeze and crash when I try to save.
As I am the only user of my computer, I always run applications from an administratior account.  Creating a new admin account hasn't helped.
All of these applications work when I'm running in safe mode.
My educated guess is that it's something to do with finder.
Whenever photoshop CS6 crashes, it's when a finder window should appear - for example, so I can choose a name for my new document, or select a document to open.  But if the image was opened with finder's right-click, open with Photoshop, then CS6 doesnt have to open a finder window.  If the image has already been created, CS6 doesnt have to open a finder window when I hit Command-S.
But I have no clue how to fix it.
This guy (https://discussions.apple.com/message/16595546#16595546) seems to have a similar problem to me, and he fixed it by moving all his items off his desktop.  I've done that, but the problem persists.
Adobe (http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/crash-using-open-save-dialog-mac.html) suggests that my viewing options in finder could be the problem.  I've tried the solution described in the article above, and the problem persists.
Please, I need to be able to use Python and CS6 for my schoolwork!  Help me if you can!
Help me, (your name here), you're my only hope!

    Hello Rick,
Through all the research I have done so far and talking with a few other coworkers what the common issues that cause this are is:
    1. Antivirus: disabling the antivirus is not good enough it needs to be totaly uninstalled and retested.
    2. startup programs: these need to be disabled through either Safe mode with networking or the start menu or MSconfig.
    3. Office addins: Disable all of them see if that helps. Then turn them back on one by one to see which addin is causing the issue.
To disable addins: 1. open up regedit and navigate to this key. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Addins and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Word\Addins
Then change the LoadBehavior to 0 this will disable the addin. 3 lets it run. Since this affected only one user HKEY_LOCAL_USER might be your best bet but don't rule out the other location.
To verify there are no addins running go to the File tab>options>Add-Ins make sure nothing is listed under Active Application Add-ins.
    I hope this helps
