Installing Third Party Software
I could not install BC Dictionary, on my new Tungsten E2. I am using Vista. I then loaded the prc/pdb files on a SD card (my computer shows the files on the card), but when I look for the files on my E2 card, they don't show. I then loaded the Palm software on my wife's XP computer and went through the Quick Install process. It appeared to work, but I can't find the BC Dictionary program on my E2. BC refers me to Palm.
I am also having similar problems with Documents to Go and I can't sync with my Yahoo Calendar. All of these programs worked on my old Sony Clie.

Remember the largest SD card the E2 can use out of the box is one (1) GB. If you want to use a larger card you will have to purchase an application from palmpowerups (not affiliated with Palm).

Thank you in advance.Open the Security & Privacy preferences. Click on the General tab. At the bottom you will find your Gatekeeper settings. Click on the lock icon and authenticate so you can change the selection. If software does not have a developer's signature in it then the software will not be installed until you change the selection to "Anywhere."

when installing third party software, how do I temporarily turn off the factory installed virus sw and firewall? Is it necessary on a Mac to do so? I come from the Windows world and am still in the learning curve on the Mac.
Correct. I have not installed ANY other software for anti-virus, etc. I want to install a Synch app for my HTC phone to sych with MS Outlook 2011 installed on my Mac. HTC will not synch with it otherwise. That was really the basis for my question....if installing a non Apple app can be done without messing with factory settings on the Mac. In Windows I remember that I needed to disable Norton and the Firewall in order for installation to occur.

Problem installing third party software
I have encountered an issue whereby on trying to install downloaded upgrades to third party software I am asked to insert a disk entitled with my user name. At first I put this down to dodgy software, but have now had the same issue with installing Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.0. The installation software appears to be something called iNosso.
Essentially the installation gets as far as stating "This software was successfully installed" but before coming up with the summary window comes up with:
*Please insert the "username" disc to*
*continue installation.*
You have chosen to install software that requires this
disc.
(username isn't actually shown what is shows is presumably the local name I have given to the computer).
No such disc exists and have tried the original installation discs for 10.5 but to no avail. I end up force quitting the installer but am concerned that by doing so I may corrrupt the installation and build up problems for myself going forward.
Has anyone else encountered this issue and if so is there a fix?
Thanks in advance.Allan, I had hoped not to have to go through the steps you suggest as one of the reasons for doing Migration Assistant was to avoid re-installing all my applications and all the relevant license information. Also note that my old apps are running fine it is just third party installers that appear to be the issue. As a test I ran the Apple installer loading some additional apps that came with the computer with no issues. I would also add that all my applications old and new appear to be running without issue. Indeed even those apps affected by this installation issue (incl Acrobat Reader 9.0) seem to run normally so it does appear to be an annoying glitch in the installation that simply stops the automatic completion of the process.
My nervousness however is that something more sinister is going on in the background that I am not aware of that may affect the performance of the computer going forward.
However from both yours and Barry's comments it would appear that this is not a common fault therefore is likely to be peculiar to the way I have set things up so in order to resolve I will have to try either re-installation of everything per Barry or a re-installation of apps as you suggest. Now I just need someone to find me the time!!
If anyone else has come across this issue before and found an easier resolution I would be eternally grateful. Thank you Allan and Barry for the speed of your responses and your suggestions. -

Good Tutorial On Installing Third-Party Software For Mac OS X?
Hey Everyone,
I have a friend who recently switched over from Windows to a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.4.x.
Recently he asked me to explain to him how installing software on Mac OS X works. He was always used to the typical Windows setup.exe installation methods that dropped everything you needed in the Start Menu.
After explaining to him the usage of DMG files, PKG files, Installer.app, and drag-and-drop installs, he felt pretty comfortable with the process.
However, I'm wondering if anyone out there knows a good beginners tutorial for how software installation on Mac OS X works. I checked the Mac 101 site, didn't see much. Searching Apple's knowledge base didn't give me any helpful "general" documents.
If anyone has useful links they can point me to so I can direct my friend (and anyone else that might ask me this type of question) to some reading material, that could prove very helpful.

Installing third party software at the same time over network.
Hi I know i can copy the installer onto the local drives and manually click on the installers and type in the password etc.
However this is extremely laborious and very time consuming.
Not being an expert in terminal are there any commands I could use to run the installer, and fill out the administrator password when requested?

I just updated to the latest Flash Player and as part of the installation a McAfee security program was installed automatically. If anyone from Adobe is listening, you should fix this immediately. It’s extremely rude.
Hi, I think the Google Toolbar is an opt out feature as well. If you want to remove that McAfee:
Under Start menu, go to all Programs
Open McAfee Security Scan Plus folder
Select “Uninstall”
Then Reboot(restart) your computer.
Other websites offer different programs as well, from what I've seen. Not always easy to UNcheck the offers, I know.
I think it would be helpful if it was an opt IN. I've seen that some users don't use any Security at all and that would be something they may want.

Mavericks restarting when Im installing third-party software
and asks me to repair a disk by Recovery HD
Your Hard Drive is failing and needs either repair or replacing. Make sure you back up all the data you can. At best it will need to be erased completely before a reinstall.

Third party software ipod back to pc! HELP
i lost all my music on my computer and installed third party software to copy music from ipod to put back into my liberay, but program copied music from i pod but didnt transfer it into liberay, is there a way? and not one by one? and also the music i do manage to transfer is there a way i can put music in liberary back into correct track listing order?
If your music was transferred back to your desktop or music folder then either drag the folder to the iTunes source list to add it back or go to File> Add File to Library or Add Folder to Library : About the Add to Library, Import and Convert functions
Once the files are back in iTunes you can order the library. I've found that this method works for me when things are out of order. Right click at the top of any column in your iTunes library and choose **Track Number** from the list. Click at the top of this new column to sort it and after that click on the Album column. If you like you can then click on Artist which is how I prefer mine ordered, it will continue to hold the track order as well. Afterwards anything you import should follow this arrangement Artist>Album>Track Number within Album (you can hide the track number column when you've done if you don't want it cluttering up the view) -

harddisk or usb and then run this software from there. Regarding this issue, I suggest that you should contact with the third-party software support and confirm it. Since most programs use windows registry entries, and may rely on some .dll files. If all relevant
auxiliary files and configurations of this software were installed in one directory tree, you may be able to install and run it on an external harddisk or usb.

Error in opening safari after i installed a third party software

I've read many posts talking about using a third party software to manage the fans in my iMac. Can the iMac not do this on its own?
You don't have to do anything. The fans will run when the temperature gets hot enough to trigger them.
My new 2012 iMac isn't like my older 2007 iMac in terms of fan noise. I knew when the 2007 fans were running, I could hear the sound of rushing air and under heavy load they were load. Because the new 2012 models are very different in construction I don't hear that typical sound. In fact, until I saw a teardown I wondered if it had fans. The fan sounds more like a hum and I just never associated it with being a fan. Yes, the top of the computer does get hot, I think part of Apple's design is to use the alumnium back as a heat sink. -
How to configure Solaris that third-party software can use Netscape
Hi,
I don't know if this is Solaris configuration issue.
I have Storage Foundation installed on Solaris 10 SPARC.
And I am using the VEA GUI application to manage storage. Then I intentionally made some activities that the Error window appears with the link.
This link point to the Veritas web page.
After clicking on this link the error appears:
"Error attempting to launch web browser.:
netscape: not found"
Please tell me whether this issue is because it needs some changes in Solaris or maybe the Storage Foundation needs to be configured properly?
The internet connection works fine while executing the Netscape from CDE.

DanielI don't think it has anything to do with the third-party software. When you click on a link or document, the OS tries to access it using the associated application. In your case, clicking on a hyperlink tries to load the default web browser which on your system is Netscape.
If say, you installed Firefox and configured it to be the default web browser then Solaris would launch it instead.
Try to manually launch Netscape and in the preferences, set it as the default web browser. See how you go with that.
