Installing update we had power failure and system will not boot

We do not have a current working back-up, how do I re-install the os w/o erasing the entire hard drive? We have a Intel Imac with snow leopard on it.

Thanks for the info. This is my fathers machine and I am the one that gets stuck fixing it when he has problems. I used to be an Apple Certified Repair Tech in 99/00 but that seems like a life time ago now.
The system came with 10.5. We upgraded to SL and have the disk and then to Lion which was a downloadable upgrade correct? I will take a look at the link you sent.

Please help. Have similar problem. After power out abruptly, cannot return to i6 state. System remains in single user mode. Tried running "reboot -n" which gave me a message to run "fsck -F ufs /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s5". I did that, but still will not boor to multi user mode. This is the error msg I get:

MacBook Display is Scrambled and System Will Not Boot Up

I have a 2007 15" MacBook Pro. The display is scrambled and the system will no longer boot up for me. I've connected an external display and it shows the same thing, so it's not an LCD issue. Most of the time I can't even get the computer to boot up anymore. It just goes to a solid white or solid blue screen. The only time I can actually log in to my computer is if I boot up in safety mode, but the screen is still scrambled and the computer does not work properly. Most of the time it crashes, going to a black screen at some point. That sounds like a failed logic board or display module on the logic board...either way you need to take it to an Apple store genius bar and have the techs test it to see exactly what has failed. The testing is free so give the techs a chance at diagnosing the problem.

Diamond - 4870 Installed ...... but system will not boot - no display..

Finally got my special 6-pin PCI std. connector to a MAC PRO 6-pin smaller power connector.
The ATI-X1900 works like a champ, when I remove it an install the Diamond ATI-4870 (MAC VERSION) in and connect the two power blocks on the motherboard, the system beeps like it is booting, but I do not get any output from the ATI-4870 card. The 4870's fan is running and it sounds like the system is booting, but it never displays anything.
Any Ideas ??

just recently upgraded to Win Pro on my HP PAVILION A6109N. I also bought a toshiba canvio desk 3TB. What I notice is that if I reboot my pc with the extermnal HDD connected, my system will not boot.
I have check my BIOS boot settings and the order of the boot.
I have tried disabling USB Legacy Support in the BIOS
I have reformatted the external HDD
but still my desktop will not boot if the external HDD is connected....If I disconnect the external HDD...the system will boot up ....
I am at a loss....*** scratching my head ***

Update: The only solution for me was to format the drive as ext3 and plug it into one of my Asus RT-N66U USB ports, as most routers don’t yet recognize 3TB drives as NTFS. It’s not much help to people who don’t have a router with this capability, and it also slows transfer rates to ~12MB/s.
Given the short length of the cable, your only other options are to have the 3TB Canvio sitting right next to you so you can unplug from a front USB port before each boot, or place it towards the rear of your desk and crawl under the desk to disconnect it from your PC prior to each boot.
It's a pity because Toshiba produce great internal HDD's, but my experience when it comes to external drives is they're simply junk. I wish I had read the reviews before purchasing.

I have an HP Officejet Pro 7580 similar to the 8600 you have and after upgrading to Mountain Lion it wouldn't work. HP support site said download updates for Mountain Lion from App Store not their site so I went to software update but there were NO UPDATES FOR 10.8. Tried a million things and could not get printer to work. So I restored back to Lion figuring at least printer worked then only now I can't get it to work with old settings either. I am sick to death of claims by Apple and peripheral manufacturers that everything is compatible all you have to do is get updates well in this case THERE ARE NONE TO BE GOT and I don't have time to **** about trying to find 'work arounds'. There shouldnt be a need for work-arounds. Unless the updates are ready DONT release the new OS. You shouldn't have to be an IT tech to make basic things like printing work. I see also the HP 8600 is even sold by appstore so there is no reason why it shouldn't work with minimum fuss.

dunno, Lynn--maybe Etrecheck. trying running disk utility to verify the status of your hard drive. That may give you a basic idea. Perhaps tech tool pro. As for it running hot, I can't say for sure. try shutting it down and using a vacuum clearner +crevice tool around the back of it. It's been my experience that hard drives usually fail without a lot of warning, luckily you have a backup. Afterwards you can say "Yup, that went bad". I've done a little research and found out that your MacBook Pro doesn't come with a conventional hard drive as such, but an SSD (solid state device) . It's upgradeable (up to 1 TB ) but not cheaply

I'm assuming your battery isn't removeable-shut down computer, plug in MagSafe cable . On built in keyboard, on left side, press Shift-Control-Option and power button at the same time. release all the keys and the power button. press power button again to turn on computer

I have uninstalled the software and re-installed it, Tried to open it as Administrator and it still hangs up with the Adobe banner (the picture) being displayed. Nothing happens. When I click on anything I get the message that Lightroom is not responding. I have asked to have a new catalog created for Lightroom 6............Please help.

It is Ideal to install Creative Cloud app , if you are using Adobe apps.
Creative Cloud is nothing but an updated version of Adobe Application manager. Adobe Application Manager is required for different purposes like Activation, Update.process and installation processes.etc
Adobe application manager must be up to date , that brings to Creative Cloud application which is the updated version .
No need to Sign in and all , just keep it install, if you are not okay with installing Creative Cloud app. it's okay , you can still have Adobe Application Manager only.

Good morning, I installed ios6 on the new iPad and siri will not work. Each time I try to use siri she says "uh oh, I'm having a problem. Please try again. I have tried turning siri off and back on again. Resetting the iPad, resetting the network, turning Airplane Mode off and on again. All to know avail. My iphone 5 works great and so does my wife's iphone 4s with ios6. I have called Apple support but there only suggestion was that the servers were busy. If that was the case my other devices would not work either. Plus the servers wouldn't be busy for four days. Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. I was looking forward to using siri on the new iPad and other folks don't seem to be having a problem.

Then you need to change your device details as this still says iPad2.
It's very possible Apple's servers have been busy for 4 days as not everyone downloaded iOS 6 on the day it was announced. I downloaded it last Friday, myself, as an example.
There are a millions and millions of people using Apple iDevices.
Just because everything went fine with the iOS 6 updates of your iPhone 4 and 5 doesn't mean something couldn't have gone wrong with an update to your iPad3
If the iOS update missed something during the download, I am not sure how to go about re-downloading iOS 6 to fix the issue you are having.

Are you using Win 7 64 bit? Did you update the Texas Instruments (TI) USB 3.0 XHCI Host Controller?
I have an H8 1380t PC. Updated the TI USB 3.0 driver and had the same problem.
When booting the PC with the USB 3.0 external drive connected to the PC the PC would not boot. When booting the PC with only the mouse, keyboard, and a USB 2.0 external drive attached the PC would boot. Once booted you could attach the USB 3.0 drive and it worked fine.
Solution was to roll back (reinstall) the TI USB 3.0 XHCI Host Controller to the original factory installed driver.
System now boots with the external USB 3.0 drive attached.
