Installing Update: Windows98, Windows98 SE and Window

I could use some experience advise on updating my Sound Blaster Li've Value. First I need to give some background on my problem/goals. I have a large enough harddri've to partition to multi-boot different Operating Systems. I currently use Windows98 SE with a ton of programs installed. It is a little unstable at times and I'm about to do a project of coping 60 to 80 hours of lecture notes from old 5 inch and 7 inch reels. So to that end I decided to up grade one partition to WindowXP to do my work on that I first installed Windows98 followed by Windows98 SE and lastly WindowsXP Home. At this point I started to install all my programs/drivers for the accessories, Video Card, Printer, USB 2.0 Card, Sound Blaster Li've Value and LAN card. What I found was I could not install the software for the Video Card. I check with the vendor who solution was no help. I slept on the problem couple day and if I remembering correctly a Windows updates does not wipe out your programs so I have reformatted the partition and installed Windows98 all the accessories programs/drivers. When I tried to install the saved updates, from a couple of years ago, for my Sound Blaster Li've Value card I found that it kept removing AudioHQ. Going to Creative WEB site I see there has been more updates. A cursory exam of the current changes looks like the updates covering Windows98 and Window98 SE are the same, but for WindowsXP a whole set of different updates. My dilemma/problem is what sequence to install the updates for Sound Blaster Li've Value. . install the updates now to cover Windows98 and SE, then install Windows SE then XP then these new updates or 2. Install SE and XP then just install the updates for Sound Blaster Li've Value card at this point that covers the XP operating system

What I was trying to do is install WindowsXP in a new partition. What I have is My original Windows98 OP which I bought the update Window98 SE which get install on top of Windows98. I bought the new update WindowsXP which install over Window98 SE. I did this in sequence 98>98 SE>XP than started to load in all my accessories and their programs/drivers. The first accessory I started with way the video card with a TV card attach to it. Well the software would not load. Communicated with ATI and their solution did not help.
Upon rethinking the problem I reformat the partition and installed Windows98 and started installing all accessories and their programs/drivers and so far it has gone well untill I got to Creative Sound Blaster Li've Value. The CD-Rom load fine, but the old updates from two or three years ago, (I had archi've them), when installing them this time kept unloading the AudioHQ programs so when I when to Creative WEB site to check up on the updates to see if I have missed one. Well I seen all these new updates and a whole new WEB site reorganization. A quick look the updates for a Window98 or 98 SE OP's seem to be the same but when getting down to WindowsXP it is a whole new ball game. I have the CD-Rom programs load for the Sound Blaster Card. The question is at this point to install the updates for the Windows98 and 98 SE, then load Windows98 SE in followed by WindowsXP and do a new update for the Sound Blaster Card, or start loading Window98 SE and WindowXP and just do the update for the Sound Blaster Card/WindowsXP at this point. It is the sequence of what I doing my is concern.

iTunes Store loads partially or returns "Error 306" or "Error 10054"
Proxies, parental control settings and software, security or filtering software, or a bad iTunes Store cache can cause this.
To address proxies, Remove Internet Options proxy settings and connect to the Internet without a proxy.
    To reset iTunes Store cache:
In iTunes, choose iTunes > Preferences (Mac) or Edit > Preferences(PC).
    Click the Advanced tab.
    Click the "Reset cache" button.
Click OK and see if the issue is resolved.
    Adjust Parental Controls in iTunes:
    Open iTunes.
    Access iTunes preferences:
On a Mac: From the iTunes menu, choose Preferences.
On a Windows PC: From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
    Click the Parental Controls tab.
    Remove restrictions on Parental Controls.

Try booting into the Safe Mode.  Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once. You can download from the Safe Mode.

  • Problems installing update PS CS5 on new Windows 7 laptop w/ prior PS vers. already installed

    Hi,
When I first got my new Windows 7 laptop, I tried loading PSCS5 onto it, but since it was an update disk, and previous versions weren't there, it didn't load. I finished my work during a 30-day trial period on a recent sabatical, I uninstalled it and all PS files except images saved, and have now gone through the following process in attempt to load it:
    1) Loaded PS 6.0 from a CD and serial number that I own--no problems
    2) Loaded PS CS2 from a CD and serial nuimber I own--no problems
    3) Loaded PSCS5 from an update CD also purchased, and got an error message saying something about CS4 needing to be uninstalled before CS4 could be properly loaded.
Puzzling because A: I never loaded CS4, and B: was not trying to. So I uninstalled everything conceivably troubling from Adobe, even Flash Player, Patch files, but not ASA or Adobe Download Helper. Some Adobe files left behind I deleted and emptied the recycle bin and restarted over several different times. To my knowledge, my CS5 has only been used on one other computer. Do I need to de-activate it on the other one? I don't find it on a 3rd computer, but if it was simply uninstalled, without de-activation, would I need to re-install it to deactivate it on the 3rd one. I'm hoping somebody can help me tell how many computers have CS5 activation.
Now, I've tried simply loading the CS2 disk and going to the PSCS5, and that failed, so I re-did steps 1-3 after purging also Lightroom3 and DreamWeaver CS3, thinking something from them might've been the culprit (though they earlier loaded flawlessly after a de-activation of DW on another computer). This time the Adobe Support box came up and after searching the system or whatever, said 'no problems could be found', and that I should contact Adobe Support. No FAQ's address this problem and a scan of forums was not helpful. So here I am.
Any ideas? If it is lack of a Registry entry, it would be helpful to know exactly which one and how precisely to get it and patch that into Windows 7 for those of us who are not IT geeks. I'm guessing this might be a recurrent issue and it would be helpful to simply have that code to patch in, if it is known.
Otherwise, I'm stuck using CS2, which while OK, is not CS5.
All my Adobe products have been purchased originally purchased and activated by me.
    Thanks for any help,
    Michael J Kissane

    Hi Jeff,
After reading your mail, I've un-installed the previous versions now
(both 6.0 and CS2), including manually some files listed as
impossible to uninstall under the PS 6.0 wizard (Adobe Program files
x86, something). I restarted the computer (Lenovo running Windows 7
    Home Premium).
I then tried to run the PS CS5 Upgrade disk directly and it failed
with suggestion to go to the ASA, which said quickly "Inspection
could not identify any issues. Please contact Adobe Support for
further assistance"... and the website for same.
I recall I did get a box with a request for the qualifying
prerequisite's serial when I first tried this in December, but not
having that on hand and after failing (I believe I even tried getting
serials from 'My Adobe' resource) I punted and went for the trial
period to finish my project. The rest I've written about in my forum posting.
I'm hoping info from Maggie_8 from the forum
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3880631#3880631 may get me through
it. Otherwise, I don't know if I can save what's on the new laptop to
an external HD and start all over after back tracking to a previous
point (this was possible in older Windows OS, I recall, but one lost
anything not saved elsewhere as the clock was turned back, so to speak)
Frustrating...I had problems with Adobe Reader, too, and I hope I've purged it.
Will persevere, but without wasting eons of time. Other fish to fry
    and all that...

  • How to prevent iTunes for Windows from "Updating iTunes Library"? (Library is on a NAS and managed by iTunes for Mac. Now getting update wars between Mac and Windows versions of the player.

How to prevent iTunes for Windows from "Updating iTunes Library"?
My library is on a NAS and managed by iTunes on a Mac. I can connect from wife's Windows laptop using iTunes for Windows but every time I do, it Updates iTunes Library. Next time I log in from my Mac it Updates iTunes Library in return. It appears I'm experiencing "Update Wars" between the Mac and Windows versions of iTunes. I would like to allow my wife to stream iTunes songs to her new laptop but I don't want any updates from this source... prefer to manage the library from my Mac and not allow Windows to do any thing other than listen to existing playlists.
    Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Connect the PC to the library on the NAS. Wait while "updated".
Under Edit > Preferences > Advanced make sure the media folder is correctly pointed at the media folder on the NAS. If not correct, close iTunes, wait a few moments, then open iTunes again.
Close iTunes on the PC. Do not open iTunes on the Mac.
Copy the library files, iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb, sentinel and the folder Album Artwork into an empty iTunes folder on the PC, for example C:\iTunes.
Click the icon to start iTunes and immediately press and hold down SHIFT. Keep holding until prompted to choose or create a library. Click choose and browse to the copied .itl file, e.g. C:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl
The library should now work properly on the PC, however check the setting for the media folder. If needs be correct, close iTunes and reopen.
Open iTunes on the Mac. It will update again, but that should be last time.

  • How to install Dual OS(solaris 10 and Windows XP)?

I have got a 80 gb sata hard disk and i am not able to install Dual OS(solaris and Windows XP ) on it.My Partitions are as follows:
    Primary partition-5GB
    Remaining are extended Partition.
    Extended partition details
8 gb NTFS partition(installed windows XP)
7 gb NTFS partiton(No data in it)
20 gb NTFS partition(No data in it)
20 gb NTFS partiton(has data in it)
    15 gb RAW partiton
I first installed Windows xp on 8 gb Extended partiton. Then when i installed Solaris i could see only 2 partitons. One with the 5 gb and the other with the 71 gb.I actually wanted to install my solaris on the 15 gb Raw partition.Since i could not see the partition(15 gb Raw) i installed solaris on the 5 gb partition. Now when the comp boots it goes to solairs os only.i dont have the option to choose windows at all.
could any one of you explain me how the partitions are supposed to be and how could i make it as a Dual OS.

Windows uses the primary partiton for boot, too, even if you installed it on the NTFS volume in the extended partition. Wherever you install Windows, it will need the primary partition for booting. You can never boot from Windows extended partitions
As for the 15Gb raw partition, it look like what you call 'RAW partition' is actually just a small little part inside the extended partition. All your NTFS partitions (and your RAW partiton) are logical volumes and they all reside inside the extended partition. Even though Windows sees them as separate drives, each with its own drive letter, just as it sees the primary partition.
You may try do use Windows fdisk or diskpart to delete the last logical volume in the extended partition, and then get the ntfs resize tool from Linux, or the CD1 from the Debian Linux install CDs, which has it included and accessible with a nice user interface, and resize your extended partition.
I don't know if it works, I only used it to also resize some logical volume inside the partition. ntfs resize tool might not be easy to work with, you will need to read its documentation, but it does resize NTFS partitions (I have seen it).
If it works, then you will have your 15Gb as unallocated space available for a new partition. Let the Solaris installer create this new partition automatically during install.

  • How install Solaris 2.5.1 and Windows Together

Hi, Weve a registered copy of Solaris 2.5.1 and we cant install solaris and windows in the same Hard disk.
Ive been trying since two weeks. I cant found a document that help me with this task.
Please, help me with the directions to do that or try to indicate me an internet link to read it.
    Thanks a lot.

OK, this is that I did.
    1. With solaris 2.5.1. boot disk install solaris from CDROM
    2. I do the partition in hard disk, the disk has 3 GB, and make a 940 MB partition for solaris and the rest for Windows
    3. I install solaris in stangalong mode
    4. When I finished solaris installation, it ask me wich partition are going to use to boot de machine.
    5. I format a WINDOWS disk partition to install it.
    6. I transfered the system to the windows partition
    7. Reboot the machine and the solaris still ask me by wich O/S are going to use to boot.
    8. Then, install Windows 95 B version, and when rebbot the machine, the boot manager of salaris dissaper.
    9. With FDISK of windows and put the second partition (solaris) as active, and nothing happens.
Note: I`m using the solaris partition as second one, i mean that the main partition is Windows (is exactly that I did have it).

  • Adobe Reader X 10.1 Install Failing on XP SP3 and Windows 7 (64 bit)

After using the Customization Wizard 10 to create an .mst and executing the install via SCCM 2007 which I have done many times before, I am getting the following error on both the XP SP3 and Windows 7 (64 bit) machines in the Application Event Log:
    Product: Adobe Reader X (10.1.0) -- Error 2229.Database: . Could not load table 'ServiceInstall' in SQL query: SELECT `Name`,`DisplayName`,`ServiceType`,`StartType`,`ErrorControl`,`LoadOrderGroup`,`Dependenc ies`,`StartName`,`Password`,`ComponentId`,`Directory_`,`FileName`,`Arguments`,`Description ` FROM `ServiceInstall`, `Component`, `File` WHERE `ServiceInstall`.`Component_` = `Component`.`Component` AND (`Component`.`KeyPath` = `File`.`File`) AND (`Action` = 1 OR `Action` = 2).
I used the following .msi to create the.mst:
    AdbeRdr1010_en_US.msi
Does anyone know where to go from here?
    Thanks, Sandy

I have found another possible bug affecting network printing with 10.1.2 in Protected Mode on XP SP3 machines that has not been previously documented:
A number of users in one office were not able to print with 10.1.2 in Protected Mode (even with the printing hotfix/patch previously released) to their default printer; however they were able to print fine with 10.0.1 in Protected Mode OR by disabling Protected Mode in 10.1.2.  They could print to Microsoft XPS Document Writer, however.
The cause was determined to be an issue with capitilization of the printer name in the registry!  10.1.2 in Protected Mode seems to be sensitive to this for some strange reason, though other apps don't care.
Check the following keys and ensure the capitalization of any references to name of your printer (or UNC path of the printer share) is consistent:
    HKCU\Printers\Connections
    HKCU\Printers\Settings
    HKCU\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\windows\Device
In our case, the reference to the name of the default printer was in lowercase, while the printer path recorded under settings was in UPPERCASE.   Changing this to match immediately fixed the problem.

  • Install CS5 on both Mac and Windows

    Hi all,
I have an Adobe CS5 Design premium which I have been using for 2 years now. Recently, I switched to a Macbook Pro with Bootcamp, which allows me to dual-boot to Windows. Does my CS5 license allow me to dual-install on BOTH Mac and Windows OSes on the same laptop (technically, I am not installing on separate machines). If yes, how do I do so? It seems like my installation DVD is for Windows only.
    Appreciate any clarifications. Thanks.

Your serial number is only good for Windows, as well as the version of the software that goes with it.

  • Difference between installing update 8 from scratch and updating from u7

I had just installed Solaris 10 update 7 on my x4140 when I noticed update 8 came out. I am yet to install all my services (Comms suite 7, Webspace portal server and more) so it's not too late to re-install but still a few hours work. My question is, will I gain anything from installing update 8 with it's improvements over update 7 or will updating using update manager give the same OS. One advantage I can think of is that update 8 may use a more up to date ZFS version and lu version. Should I bother to re-install while it's possible?

Yes, very rarely updates do funny things to a system.
