Installing updated firmware to a newly purchased Airport Express

I recently purchased a new Airport Express and just got notice that there is a new firmware upgrade that should be applied. The information that came with the Express is not very forthcoming. I tried searching for information here in the forums on procedures for applying the upgrade but have notice a few folks having issues.
My guess is that I just connect it to the my macbook and download the update. Is there any steps I need to take.
Thanks in advance for all assistance.

By default, when you open the AirPort Utility, it will check to see if the AirPort device has the latest firmware ... and, if not, it will offer you an opportunity to upgrade it. The decision is totally up to you. If you don't want the utility to check each time, you can disable that option. (ref: AirPort Utility > Manual Setup > File > Preferences)

  • Updating Firmware on an older version Airport Express

Does anyone have an answer to updating the firmware of an older  version Airport Express. The new Airport utility 6.3.2 will not allow me to make changes to my Airport Express from 6 years back.

Apple has not updated the firmware on the older AirPort Express models in over 6 years, so chances are you already have the most recent firmware installed on your Express.
Apple has dropped support of the older AirPort Express models in AirPort Utility 6.x versions, so you will need to use a Mac running Leopard, Snow Leopard, or a PC if you need to administer the older Express that you have.

  • Cannot update firmware on a brand new Airport Express

I just got a AirportExpress base station to extend the wireless range of my Airport Extreme (Gigabit Ethernet). I hooked everything up and configured my network. I ran the firmware update for the AExtreme and it worked. For some reason the same thing can't be done on the Airport Express. The updater just idles for a while and returns an error code (-6722).
    How do I fix this.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

OK, you have proven to yourself that you are not losing speed over Ethernet.
Wireless is half science and half voodoo.
Sometimes, having a laptop very close to a wireless router will overload it, causing a drop in speed.
There may be a "hidden" network at a house near you, which is causing interference. This will not show up on most scanners
Could be a cordless phone in the area causing difficulty. Won't show on a most scanners.
Could be a wireless camera/security system at a house nearly causing some issues. Won't show on most scanners
Could be a USB3 hard drive doing the same
Could be a BlueTooth device.....wireless mouse, keyboard, headphones....doing the same
Could be gremlins.  I have them here at times.
You could try another Express.  Might be better, might be worse. Expect anything.

  • How can I install InDesign CS6 with my newly purchased serial no. when I have deleted the trial?

    hi guys,
I need to know how I can install InDesign CS6 with my newly purchased serial no. when I have deleted the trial version? In other words I do not have the trial version any longer so I need the actual download files/folder to link the serial number to. I have CC as well but that shouldn't make a difference - I need to run InDesign CS6 for third party plugins.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi there,
If you have purchased CS6 Indesign Download from Adobe Online, then you can go ahead and login to your Adobe account and navigate to "My Adobe" > "My Orders" to locate the Order, its download and the serial number.
You can also download the same trial version again and just use the serial number to activate it to a full version. Below is the link for the trial versions for CS6 versions:

  • Purchased Airport Express- Do I need to upgrade OS?

I have wireless internet and wanted to secure it with a password. The reason is my neighbors who I don't like and don't get along with (to put it mildly)- have been jumping on my wireless signal and getting a free ride- which gets me mad. For the past couple of months i've been trying to secure my line with my verizon/ Westell router. I have no trouble connecting with the PC but when it comes to the Mac- the prompt box comes up with the message- "There was an error joining the network". I spoke with the techs and they said the router doesn't work with macs and I would be better off purchasing airport express to solve the problem.
I just purchased Airport Express and was looking at the box and noticed the fine print saying requires Mac OS X v10.4 or later. Do I actually have to update the OS or have others used it with no problem?
I've been reading other posts and finding out to upgrade to Tiger would be $125 for the OS system and my funds are limited. Any alternatives?
My setup is a ibook G4 with OS X 10.3.9.
Sorry for the long post but I wanted to explain my situation and hopefully provided enough information to work with. If you need more- let me know. All replies are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    OK,
I'm presuming that you can successfully see and connect to the router from the Mac when wireless security is off. This would rule out any issues with incorrect SSIDs, MAC filtering, DHCP disabled, etc.
So use WPA-PSK on the router, key your password in plaintext. There's a WPA Group Rekey Interval below the password field, default of 3600. No idea what it is, either leave it or set it to '0' which turns it off.
Using the default SSID is fine. Using a WEP password is not as secure as WPA if you have the NSA living next door, it's also a lot harder to setup on a Mac.
So you should be able to connect from the Mac, select the wireless network and ensure it prompts you for a WPA password - you can change the password type in the pop-up menu. And you should be good to go.
Otherwise it might be the Keychain.
Fire up Keychain Access, and immediately you're looking with an item with the name of your wireless network. There should be a description of "AirPort Network password" next to it. Select it and click the red delete button at the top. Then try to connect to the network again. Use plaintext password just like you keyed it on the router.
There is a small chance that this will still not work, that the AirPort software is still trying to connect to the network with an old (or no) password (no idea where it stores it, it's not in the keychain any longer), although this blights OSX 10.4 a lot more than 10.3. To try again and get round this, when you choose a network from the AirPort menu, select "Other..." rather than your network name. Then in the dialog box that pops up, select your network and the appropriate security - WPA Personal - and key your password.
If you have success let us know, if things don't work, post back everything that happened in the best detail you can and it there's nothing obvious we'll look at getting the AE to supply your wireless access.

  • TS4597 I am using an Airport Extreme as my base station and I want to extend its range using a recently purchased AirPort Express.  However neither device is showing up on my AirPort Utility on either my older MacBook Pro or my IPad 4.  What do I do?

I am using an older AirPort Extreme as my base station and I want to extend the range by using a recently purchased AirPort Express.  When I try to find either device using the AirPort Utilities function on either my new IPad 4 or my older MacBook Pro neither device is detected.  However the utility is seeing that we are connected to the Internet which is through the Extreme.   What am I doing wrong?

For now, leave the AirPort Express powered off.
Power off the entire network....all devices.....in any order that you want
    Wait a few minutes
Power up the modem first, and let it run 2-3 minutes by itself
Power up the AirPort Extreme next, and let it run a full minute
Keep powering up devices one at a time about a minute apart until everything is powered up (leave the Express off for now)
Open AirPort Utility and check to see if the AirPort Extreme is visible.
If it's not, click the AirPort Utility menu at the upper left of the screen, then click About AirPort Utility. Post back with the version number of AirPort Utility that you see there....which should be AirPort Utility 5.6.1.
    Post back on your progress.

  • Use airport express to extend network from linksys wrt54g

Hello all, I'm having no luck here, and hope you can help me. I am running a MacBook Pro, 2.16 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo, 3 Gigs ram, OS X 10.6.8.I am at work, trying to use a newly purchased AirPort Express to extend the signal from the back office, which has a Linksys WRT54G router. I updated the router's firmware to 1.02.8, build 001, dated 8.5.09. I have tried numerous times to configure the AE using AirPort Utility, and always wind up with an error message, "An error occurred while updating the configuration. Make sure your Apple Wi-Fi base station is plugged in and in range of your computer or connected via Ethernet and try again. (-6753)" During the configuration process, I am asked what I want to do with AE, I have tried both "create a new wireless network," and "I want AE to join my current network," with no success. Any comments will be appreciated.

The Linksys WRT54G and WRT54GS (through version 4 only for both models) were said to be compatible with Apple's WDS settings.
Perhaps this article may offer some clues, but it is doubtful that you will be able to make this work with the particular version of Linksys router that you have.

  • AirPort Utility can't find Netgear router OR new AirPort Express

    Hello,
I couldn't find my situation fully addressed in older posts, so I'm posting one myself.
I am trying to EXTEND my current network with a newly purchased AirPort Express. My equipment is as follows:
Comcast modem connected via ethernet cable to...
    Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 R7000 dual-band router
One three-year-old Mac Mini running Lion
One newer MacBook Pro running Mavericks
Two iPhone 4S, latest software updated as of Nov. 2014
Two-year-old iPad, latest software updated as of Nov. 2014
Newly purchased AirPort Express as of Nov. 2014
We have a large house with an office at the extreme end resulting in a week signal, so I need to extend my network. The Netgear router sends a strong signal otherwise, and ALL devices are working properly and are fully connected to the WIFI network.
    So here is the problem:
I've tried many, many times to connect the APE using AP Utility with only two successful connections, but these connections were to "Join Existing Network" not to extend that network, but I selected this option as it seemed closest to what I want to do since "extension" of network was not an option. Then I see that I can edit the APE within AP Utility. I've done so, resetting the unit as a network extender, and the two times I tried this I sat waiting for five minutes for the thing to update only to get an error message. At this junction I could do nothing but remove the APE in AP Utility by "forgetting" it. No other options were available that I could see.
Now, the two times I've done the above, were two times within 20+ attempts to get AirPort Utility to even see the darn thing. I've tried placing the APE near the Netgear router, moderately close (other side of room) and even at the far end of the house, and neither the APE or the Netgear router were ever found in the AP Utility save the two incidences mentioned above. I've scoured the net, rechecked all connections and performed all troubleshooting procedures I can find to no avail. All I get is a flashing amber light and no connection
A: Why won't AirPort Utility find my Netgear Router?
B: Why won't AirPort utility find my AirPort Express?
C: Why, on the two occasions the AP Utility did find the APE, did it not give me the option anywhere to set it up as an EXTENDER to the current network?
D: Is there any other way to add the APE to my network as desired without using AP Utility? (I do have the Negear Genie app, but I don't see options for adding a device for network extension so far)
I'm at wits end. Can anyone help?
Oh, and I've tried using AP Utility on both Macs listed above with the same results.
    Thanks for your help!

A: Why won't AirPort Utility find my Netgear Router?
AirPort Utility works only with an Apple router, as does the utility for a Netgear work only with a Netgear router.
B: Why won't AirPort utility find my AirPort Express?
Any of 3-4 common reasons. We'll have to work on troubleshooting that.
C: Why, on the two occasions the AP Utility did find the APE, did it not give me the option anywhere to set it up as an EXTENDER to the current network?
Apple designed the wireless "extend" feature on their routers to only work with other Apple routers.
D: Is there any other way to add the APE to my network as desired without using AP Utility?
    No
Not sure how you want to proceed at this point. It might be possible to use the AirPort Express to extend the Netgear network if you connect it using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection back to the Netgear router.
If you cannot run the Ethernet cable, your best bet by far is to use another Netgear extender or repeater, which would likely be compatible with your Netgear router.

  • Wireless Networks Problems with Xbox - Airport express

    Hi Hope someone can help
    Wireless setup & Hardware
I have a PC running XP and the wireless Router is connected directly with RJ45 cable into the Netgear DG834GT
I have a iMac G5 which has no problems getting onto the wireless network
I have a Airport Express unit where all my music is streamed into another room and that works fine, but my problem is I cannot get the xbox I have just purchased to work ie (xbox Live etc) which is attached with RJ45 cable direct to Airport Express.
I have installed lastest firmware for all devices, ie Airport Express, DG834GT
My Wireless Security settings have been set to WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi protected access pre shared key) I must admit I tried to set WEP security at first but had no Luck, so I don't know if I've done right thing
When I look at attached devices on router software it shows me correctly that there are 3 computers on network I can view IP address and MAC address
My Question is should the Xbox work ok with my setup?
Should the Xbox not get all network infomation automatic
Do I need to manual set the xbox with Network settings?
Or am I missing something, any help would be Great

    Hello,
I don't know if this link will help but, give it a shot. I have the same setup as you but, I have a PS2 instead. I believe you have to manually adjust some settings on the XBox.

  • Airport Express 802.11n on third party network

    Hi,
I've got an 802.11g wireless network with one older Airport Express 802.11g Base Station and a newly purchased Airport Express 802.11n Base Station. For some reason the new Base Station won't work properly on the 802.11g network. I can configure it from factory settings and it will connect to the network but as soon as I try to get it up and running with the older Base Station it disconnects and can't reconnect to the network. Is there anyway to configure the newer 802.11n (default) Base Station to boot with 802.11g as its default protocol?

Did you set up the new AX in "Join a wireless network" mode? After you restart the AX, is there a steady green light on it? Can you see the AX on Airport Utility.
If you are still having problem, try disable the security temporarily see if that is causing the problem.

  • Connect Airport Express directly to iMac

    Hi
First posting so please forgive any mistakes!
I have only switched over to using an iMac about a month ago, and have to say I'm really pleased with its operation.
The problem that I am trying to resolve, is configuring a newly purchased airport express to connect directly to my iMac if that is possible.
I have a PC connected by ethernet to a Netgear DG834GT router located in an upstairs bedroom. My iMac is downstairs connected to the router wirelessly. I have self powered speakers connected to the airport express in another room, and stream iTunes to it from my iMac.
However the wireless reception in that room from the router is not great. Is it possible to stream iTunes directly to the airport express without having to go via the router. It would be much improved if it came from my iMac.
    Thanks

  • Problem after 6.3 Airport Express Firmware Update

I recently purchased Airport Express to serve strictly as an audio conduit. It was working well, when received a notice while installing software that there was an update available (6.3). I downloaded the update and install it wirelessly to my Airport Express. After doing so an rebooting, my iBook could not find it. I uninstalled and reinstalled software and the result was the same.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
    G4 iBook   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Same problem here! It's exasperating because now iTunes 8 has stopped all flow of music to my speakers forcing an upgrade of firmware for AE to 6.3, but the firmware upgrade crashes... so... we're screwed.
Thought I'd chime in so we can maybe get some attention on this issue. Just release a raw upgrade and we'll do it ourselves?
    Something?
This is so annoying. All of this music and iTunes has it all hijacked.

  • Can't update Airport Express (original - 802.11g) to firmware 6.3

I have an old Airport Express (original model - 802.11g) that I want to use only for AirTunes over ethernet. The current version of iTunes supports this only with 6.3 firmware in the Airport Express.
I have tried many methods to get the firmware from the 6.0 version that appears "burned in" to the device to 6.3. Whatever I do, the 6.3 firmware update always results in the device reverting back to 6.0. I've tried the following>
-> Standard updating via Airport Utility (5.4.1/MacOS)
-> Manual updating (using "Base Station-> Upload Firmware") to 6.0 and 6.1.1 basebinary
-> Manual updating using standalone firmware updater on Mac
-> Manual updating using standalone firmware updater on Windows
-> Booting Mac in Safe Boot and repeating all above Mac steps
I have tried all the above updating directly from 6.0 -> 6.3 and also updating to 6.1.1 and from there to 6.3.
I have tried all the above using both wireless and direct ethernet connections with the Airport card in my Mac disabled.
No matter what I do, the 6.3 firmware update completes normally, and then the AirPort Express reboots. When it shows up again in AirPort Utility or in the firmware updater program, it shows as running 6.0 firmware (even if it was running 6.1.1 prior to the 6.3 update).
It seems that rather than booting into the newly uploaded 6.3 firmware, the device is instead falling back to some version of 6.0 that must be somewhere in its memory.
One thing I haven't tried is direct uploading of the 6.3 firmware basebinary, which I was unable to find online -- if anyone knows where to find it, please let me know!
I'm at a loss of what to do next, and would appreciate any help folks can provide.
    Thanks!
    -drcheezie-

I had exactly the same issue. The software you need cannot be downloaded from Apple. You need the new Aiport Utility (sans Admin). Find the CD that came with with AEBS and you'll be good to go. Once installed additional updates can be downloaded.

  • No chance for a Firmware Update for my AirPort Express 802.11n (1st Generation) with The AirPort app in my ipad 4. can anybody help me?

    Hi Folks,
I wanted to re-activate my First Generation AirPort Express to Stream Music in another room. Unfortunatelly i cant Update The Firmware of the first gen airport express with my AirPort App on The ipad 4.
For my online Access i use The AirPort Express newset Generation Woche Works pretty well.
What can i do to use The Old AirPort Express for AirTunes purposes only?
Thanks in advance for your advices,
    Daniel

when im searchin for available wifi connections in my house, there is a "AirPort Express e55137" Hardware. When i click on it it sais, i cant configure the Base Station with the Software on the ipad
This tells me that you do not have a 1st Gen AirPort Express. If you did, you would be able to configure the Express with the iPad.
If you have AirPort Utility 5.6 or AirPort Utility 5.6.1 on your MacBook, you can configure the Express using the MacBook.
If you have AirPort Utility 6.x on your MacBook, then you will not be able to configure the Express unless you try a workaround to install an older version of AirPort Utility on your MacBook.

  • AirPort Utility rejecting my AirPort Express password for firmware update

I'm trying to update the firmware on my 1st generation Airport express. When I try to upate it it pop's up and asks for the password, it kept rejecting what I was entering, so confused I did a hard reset on the airport and set it up with a new password. I then went to try update the firmware again with the new password I just created and it's rejecting it again?? Very confused..
Infact it does seem a little bit different this time after resetting it - when you click update firmware it says 'reading wireless Apple device' and pop's up with a password prompt (same as before), I enter the password and the status bar loads a little bit and then the password prompt re appears. You can repeat this process over and over and it eventually gets to the end of the status bar, but then the bar just starts again from zero.
    Any insight here appreciated!
Running Windows 7 and an iPhone 5

Okay so I installed airport utility on my iPhone but I still seem to be having no luck. When you click into the aiport there is an option to click which says enter the password for this device to see more options. I tap it and enter the password, but then nothing seems to happen at all and the botton is still there to enter the password.
I've tried to do it again this time plugged directly into my modem via ethernet cable as well - still no joy.
    Ideas?
