Installing updates to Reader 8.1.2 on my Mac

On my Mac (Leopard 10.5.3) whenever I try to install updates to Reader 8.1.2 I get a Message stating: "patch failed because the application has been modified since it was originally installed. Please go to Adobe support website for more information regarding how to re-enable disabled components..."
Well, can't find anything on the support website about that. Don't think I've "modified" the program anyway. Regardless... any help out there. I've already attempted an uninstall/reinstall.
Thanks

As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Cannot install updated Adobe Reader

I use Windows Vista, and when trying to update, received an error.  I uninstalled the version I had so I could install the latest version (X), but althoug it would download, it would not install.  Also I was unable to reinstall the earlier version that I had. The message received today says "download timeout" even though it has only been a matter of seconds. Any suggestions as to what the problem is & how I can correct it?

I work in Desktop Support for the Forest Service & I have found that sometimes when uninstalling an application that the un-install did not correctly remove the application from the computer. In those type of cases the Windows registry still has remnants of the application so when you try and re-install the application it won't install because of thos remnants (many times when you look in Control Panel--- Add/Remove Programs, it will appear that the progrm is not installed!)
You can use a tool provided by Microsoft to remove those remnants called msicuu2.exe I'm not sure where to get it, so just Google that name and you should be able to find it.
This tool will show all the applications currently installed as well as the application which is really only remnants in the registry. He will select ONLY Adobe reader in this utility and remove it (IF it appears as one of the applications which is in his computer). If Adobe Reader does NOT appear as one of the applications which can be removed then we have a differnt problem and need to proceed with further troubleshooting.

  • Errors installing update for Reader

I tried to install an update on my PC for Reader and received an error msg 1321 or 1301 about authority to access a file location. I uninstalled and reinstalled (tried) and now I have a blue screen and windows will not open.  I've tried several troubleshooting ideas and now will have to resort to taking it in to be looked at.  Now I have a msg on laptop to install an update.  I'm a little hesitent to do this.  Any ideas?

I do not think that an Adobe Reader update can cause a blue screen (BSOD); that is usually caused by a much heavier issue.  Did you install the update under an Adminitrator user?  If not, that could cause access violation errors.  But these could also have been caused by a damaged hard disk.
I wouldn't worry about the update on your laptop; go ahead and install it.

  • Error 1327 Installing/Updating Reader

When attempting to update Adobe Reader it comes up with an error "Error 1327.Invalid Drive H:\".  I run into the same thing attempting to install the latest version using the full installer.
H: is mapped to a user folder on the network.  The My Documents folder is pointed to "H:\My Documents" and is ONLINE.  The Adobe help page says the error occurs if the drive is unavailable but it is not, I have full access.
It mentions setting permissions on the folder for "Everyone" but this is the most insecure thing I have ever heard.  These are user's directories on a Windows server, we cannot just set permissions to Everyone.
    Please advise.
    Thanks.

Can you please try running the EXE installer as the administrator (Right  click > Run as Administrator) and see if the error is still  displayed.
Also, can you try out the following command on your command prompt and post back the result:
    echo %userprofile%
If this displays the correct path i.e. H:\...., then you can go ahead and try out the changes as per the suggestion by "Shashi.kant"; since all you would be doing, would be replacing the full path of the userprofile (H:\....) with the corresponding environment variable i.e. %userprofile%

  • Reader will not automatically install updates on Windows 7

I have looked through the forums and have not seen this exact symptom mentioned:
"Automatically install updates" does not seem to work correctly on Windows 7. The updates download and I see the "update is ready to install" bubble in the system tray repeatedly. However, the updates never seem to install. I've seen this on more than one Windows 7 machine (it works ok on XP). I suppose this could be something particular to our environment, but I'm at a bit of a loss as to where to look next. Leaving the system "idle" does not seem to help and the behavior does persist after a reboot.
(I'm running Process Monitor right now and see AdobeARM.exe occasionally and successfully creating and exiting a thread, but not touching any files or registry entries.)
I enabled this setting via the registry -
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe ARM\1.0\ARM]
    "iCheck"=dword:00000003
    - and can see in the GUI that it has taken effect.
I do see some files in this directory - does this look correct?

Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks - Andy

Some additional information. I'm seeing "GetLastError(): 0x2 - The system cannot find the file specified" in c:\users\(me)\appdata\local\temp\AdobeARM.log. But even using Process Monitor, it's not clear to me which file cannot be found.
Still seems to me that updater is downloading the update but never trying to apply it. The most recent thing I have tried is to quit AdobeARM gracefully and restart it. That does seem to have reduced the number of subdirectories in C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Reader\9.3\ARM\ to only one (previously there had been one subdirectory per run).
    Thanks for any suggestions -

Is there anything else beside the number 2203?
Try removing the current Reader using http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html, then install 11.0.07 from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

  • Enable "Automatically Install Updates" on Custom Reader XI Install

    Hi,
How would one go about enabling "Automatically Install Updates" in Preferences to be the default value for "Check for Updates" in a custom installation for Adobe Reader XI?  I've used the customization wizard, but the only setting built in that I see is to disable updates all together.  Thank you!

No idea, but I'm shocked this hasn't been an option yet.
Adobe is *so* close to being where I want them to be in regards to automatic updates in many regards.
Flash automatically updates itself flawlessly...*except* that users are spammed with an "upgrade now" box when it's a x or y version level upgrade. ( ex. 11.4 -> 11.5 ) I really just want it to upgrade. Don't even talk to my users. They don't have Admin anyhow.
As for Acrobat and Reader, it seems they have the option to silently upgrade without admin privledges now, BUT, it doesn't seem to be possible to set this with Adobe's own Group Policy, which is weird. It also seems you are unable to automatically select it after a silent install for when the machine is off a domain. The Adobe Customization wizard doesn't even seem to address this.

I KEEP GETTING THE MESSAGE THAT UPDATES ARE READY TO BE INSTALLED ON ADOBE READER 8.2.1

WHEN I TRY TO RUN THAT, I GET AN ERROR 1606 WHICH REFERS TO ACCESS TO A FILE ON ANOTHER NETWORK TO WHICH I WILL NOT HAVE ACCESS TO FOR THE NEXT 8 MONTHS.

Please do not post in all uppercase - it is very hard to read!
Use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to remove your current Adobe Reader, then install it again.

    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The article below may be able to help you with this.  Follow the steps in order, but step 5 resolves the issue in most situations.

After i installed updates for my mac mini server, the web services for the server app wont start, it gives an error massage: "Error Reading Settings"

To check the local network for some of the common configuration problems, launch Terminal.app and issue the following diagnostic command:
    sudo changeip -checkhostname
That'll report some local configuration information and then either no errors detected and no changes required, or it'll point to whatever configuration errors or issues it might detect.  That doesn't catch everything, but it catches the common errors.
FWIW, 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24 are poor choices for the local network, as VPNs are based on IP routing and IP routing gets tangled when the same subnet is used on both ends of the VPN. 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24 are near ubiquitous in home networks and coffee shops.

  • Can't update Adobe Reader 10.01 (Mac Version)

I am running OS 10.6.7 on a MacPro (MacPro 4,1: 8 core - - 2mx 2.93 FHz Quad-Core Xeon). I installed Adobe Reader 10.01 uneventufully. However, many times when on the web Safari says it can't find Adobe Reader to read a document and I have to locate Adobe Reader manually. This didn't happen until after I updated to Acrobat 10.01. Thinking that this might be a bug, I looked for an update for Acrobat Reader. But when I attempt to update Adobe Reader to 10.03, it goes through the motions and then gives the follolwing error message:
"The update could not be applied because the Adobe Reader application contents were modified since the original installation."
"Please reinstall Adobe Reader and check for updates again."
    "Error 1301"
I followed directions, reinstalled Adobe Reader and immediately afterwards attempted to install the update. Same error message.
I threw out the old version of Adobe Reader 10.01, downloaded it again, reinstalled it and then attempted the update, Same error message.
I've repaired permissions, used AppleJack to clean caches, used DiskWarrior to rebuild the directory. Same error message when attempting to update Adobe Reader.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks.

REFRESH - I have this same problem. I would like to update this, since I understand there are various security fixes included with each update of Adobe Reader. Is this correct? If no one has an answer, then how can I trash the updater so I at least don't get this annoying message anymore??? It pops up EVERY STINKING DAY!!!
