Installing & Upgrading iTunes for Windows

When I tried to install an Itunes upgrade today, I could not do it. A message stated "The Older Version of Apple Software Upadate cannot be removed. Conatact your technical support group." I tried installing direct from Apple's site and a 2nd time after saving the download to the desktop. Any ideas?

I'm having my own problems with 8.1.1 but at least I can think of places to look regarding yours.
Is it possible your iPod/iPhone/iWhatever becomes drive S: when attached? (No idea why it would need to be attached while installing.
Did you have a drive S: (e.g. a thumb drive, a USB drive) attached when you last installed?
You can use Drive Manager (right-click My Computer and select Manage) to see what drive letter your iWhatever uses when connected.

Initially iTunes would not run although it had been running quite well up until now. Suddenly received this error on PC start-up "The program can't start because MSVC80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." Research on Net pointed me to iTunes as the issue. Tried to start iTunes and received that message again. Tried installing latest version of 64-bit iTunes and received the subject message part way through the install: Trying to install latest iTunes for Windows 7 64-bit. iTunes has been running great on this PC for years. What's up?

  • Upgrade iTunes for Windows

I am trying to upgrade iTunes to (11.1?) on my Windows 7 PC. I'm thanked for  downloading but the .exe file is nowhere to be found. No installation  takes place and version 11.0 is still installed. Where do I go fro here?

Check your browser for download prompts. It is possible security or ad-block settings are preventing the download. Try Apple Software Update from your start menu instead.

  • Error upgrading iTunes for Windows 7, 64 bit

I am receiving the following error and I'm not sure what to do next. If someone can offer a solution or tell me how to remove the upgrade and go back to my previous version, I'd appreciate it!!
Error writing to file: c:\program files (x86)\itunes resources\pl.lproj\rentedmoviesplacard.nib\objects.xib. Veriufy that you have access to that directory.
    Thanks! Lezlie

S'okay. Good to know about this now rather than later on down the track. I'll reply in two ways: first with some "big picture" advice about the disk damage, and then secondly with another technique for getting the iTunes install to go through (even though we can't get the disk damage fixed).
I am very concerned now because CHKDSK found 13 file sectors unreadable but freezes before it gets them fixed. My computer is only about 2 months old! I'm not sure what to do now.
    (1) Okay, it's best to keep your data well backed up. I'd try another chkdsk every few days to check to see if the problem is evolving. If it looks like it's getting worse, send the PC in for warranty repair. Prior to doing that, be sure to deauthorise the PC for iTunes, because otherwise replacement of the hard drive may convince the PC it's a completely different one from the one you've got authorised, and you may end up with two different authorisations on the same PC.
    (2) In the meantime, let's have another go at getting your iTunes installed. The problem here is that your iTunes is getting stuck trying to delete the damaged file/folder and replace it with a new one. So we'll try convincing it that the existing damaged files/folders don't exist ... that way it will creat a new one from scratch.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
    Open the C drive.
Open the "Program files (x86)" folder.
    Open the "iTunes" folder.
    Open the "iTunes.Resources" folder.
    Open the "pl.lproj" folder.
    Rename the "rentedmoviesplacard.nib" folder "rentedmoviesplacard.nibOLD".
Now try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

Can anybody assist? When attempting to install the most recent iTunes update, receiving the following message-
THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS WINDOWS INSTALLER PACKAGE. A PROGRAM REQUIRED FOR THIS INSTALL TO COMPLETE COULD NOT BE RUN. CONTACT YOUR PERSONNEL SUPPORT OR PACKAGE VENDOR.

... Is there an error message number showing up with that one, Chris? In particular a 2330 or a 2738?

  • Upgrading iTunes for Windows 7.4.3.1 to 7.5 - Quicktime not found?

My version of iTunes (7.4.3.1) works fine, as does QuickTime (v7.2) independent of iTunes. Yet, running the download for iTunes 7.5 results in an error message that installation cannot continue as QuickTime is needed. I downloaded the update a second time, with the same result.
Checking for updates to QuickTime yields the message that my software is up to date.
Anyone else encounter this issue? Have a resolution?

Did the installer at some point ask for a reboot and you didn't reboot? If you don't reboot when it asks you to, I believe that the two Quicktime files in C:\Windows\System32 are not being correctly deleted as part of the uninstall of the previous version of Quicktime.
Try manually uninstalling Quicktime from the Add or Remove Program Control Panel (XP) or the Programs and Features Control Panel (Vista). Rebooting and manually deleting the two Quicktime files, QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx, in C:\Windows\System32 -- unless you're running a 64 bit OS, in which case they will be in C:\Windows\SysWOW64. (See it really helps me when you fill out the configuration information at the bottom of the post.) And then re-running the iTunes installer.

Hello, I was trying to upgrade my iTunes for windows 7 PC, but because of invalid signature error I removed iTunes as well as all apple related applications. While reinstalling it , When I click link to install iTunes it immediately says '' thank you for downloading iTunes'' but I don't find it in my system.
I have tried all suggested option to solve it but all in vain. Please help me to get rid of this problem

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • When I attempt to upgrade an app in iTunes for windows, I get an error:  "Could not purchase.  An unknown error occurred (11111).  There was an error in the iTunes Store.  Please try again later"

When I attempt to upgrade an app in iTunes for windows, I get an error:  "Could not purchase.  An unknown error occurred (11111).  There was an error in the iTunes Store.  Please try again later"
I am running the latest iTunes 10.7.0.21 for Windows 7.
This error occurs if I try to either update the app or if I delete it and attempt to redownload.
I have an iPhone and an iPad.  I am unable to update the apps or install the apps from within the App Store on iOS.
I do not have an AOL ID, as is a common issue with this type of error.
From what I can tell, my Apple ID account seems fine.  I logged in, changed some information, and ensured my credit card is valid and updated.
I can download new apps just fine.  I am unable to update or install apps I have purchased in the past.

After 30 minutes this morning, no resolution. Then another tech support call this afternoon, 15 minutes in, was escalated to a Tier 2 (Senior) advisor. He said something similar to the above ("this is one of the strangest things I've seen"). He was chatted with iTunes guys and took all my info into the case and was escalating it over to engineering. Said they would be in touch.
    So, no solution...yet.
    Just to clarify:
iTunes on Windows7: trying to update an existing app, or re-download a prior app, gives the (11111) error. Downloading a new (free) app worked fine.
App Store on iPhone5, iOS 6.0.1: click on UPDATE, switches to INSTALLING...for a second, then switches back to UPDATE. No error message (and nothing in Diagnostic data).
App Store on iPad 3, iOS 6.0.1: same as iPhone 5.
    Definitely account related.
I have cleared the store cache, signed out and back in, deleted the credit card data, and re-added, rebooting PC and iPhone...nothing works.
Will post if I hear anything back from Apple.

Removing the SC Info folder as per the "Error 3001," "-42110," or "5103" section in the Specific Conditions and Alert Messages: (Mac OS X / Windows) section of the following document seems to help most folks reporting the iTunes launch 42110s:

  • I upgraded to iOS8.1.3, and now when I attempt to backup my iPad to iTunes for Windows, it keeps popping up an error message

    H. I upgraded to iOS8.1.3, and now when I attempt to backup my iPad to iTunes for Windows, it keeps popping up an error message "not enough space on the computer". There is over 130Gb of space! I have updated iTunes, but no change. Is it an issue in the iOS update? Or am I doing something wrong?
    Would appreciate your guidance...
    <Subject Edited by Host>

When you upgraded, itunes should have put a copy of the itunes library database in a folder named *Previous iTunes Libraries* . If you upgraded itunes today it will show as
    iTunes Library 2010-02-28.itl
Use these directions to get it back
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1967
Since I am not sure of your setup, look for the "Previous" folder on both your C: and F: drives.

  • Can someone help me with installing the latest version of iTunes for Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium?

Latest version of iTunes for Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium downloads just fine.  But, fails to install.
"Unblocked and gave all permissions."  Still, no go.
I see by reading the other posts on this forum that I am not alone.  Any help?
    Frustrated!

Ok...This was very odd.  I left the installation program, in what I considered a frozen state on screen.  After about 30 mins, to my surprise, It installed!  I'm not computer literate, so, I don't know what to say.  But, to just WAIT for it to respond!  Good Luck!
