Installing used copy of Final Cut Studio 2

Hello,
I've been reading around the net and haven't been able to find a very clear answer as to what happens when you buy and install a used copy of Final Cut Studio. I understand that the program can be sold as soon as it is completely uninstalled from the seller's machine, but it's what happens after that on the buyer's machine that I am dealing with.
It is important to note that I am dealing with full versions of the program, not upgrades (nor do I have to option to consider them in my situation).
These are my questions;
1. When the buyer (me) installs the seller's used copy of Final Cut Studio 2 will I be able to install the program on both a desktop & laptop like when the suite is new (this is vital because I am getting a new laptop and need studio on both machines)?
2. If (for some unknown reason) the seller's used copy of FCS2 doesn't install, can I install FCS HD without any problems?
3. If for some reason FCS2 isn't completely uninstalled from the seller's machine will it impede my installation process of FCS2?
Any info you can give me in regard to any of these questions would be greatly appreciated. It is a bit time sensitive (not that I have a deadline but I need to do this asap) so immediate responses would be amazing.

When I say FCS HD I mean the suite that came with Final Cut Pro (5.1.4), DVD Studio Pro, Motion 2, and Soundtrack Pro, and Compressor 2. This version (5.1) was made to work with intel machines.

Selling a Registered copy of Final Cut Studio 3

I am wanting to sell my copy of Final Cut Studio 3 but it is registered to me. Will the new owner be able to register it if I do everything legal per the copyright agreament? How would the buyer go about registering it when my name is already on it?

It's not complicated. All you have to do is sell the complete package (discs, documentation etc). Remove the software from your computer. The new owner registers it in their name and takes over ownership. Done.

How to Install Alpha Transitions into Final Cut Studio?

I downloaded the Alpha Transitions and now have a folder on the desktop named Alpha Transitions that has sub-folders. How do I install them in Final Cut Studio? I couldn't find any instructions.

Since the transitions are just media, I keep them with the rest of my media used for editing; in a folder on my media drive.

Question About Installing Individual Programs in Final Cut Studio 2

I recently installed Final Cut Studio 2, but I chose not to install Livetype on the initial setup. Now I would like to install it, but was curious why it seems to be installing all the information from the other programs I installed last week. Only Livetype was available on the "Custom Install" screen, it was blue and checked. Everything else was greyed out, but still checked. However, it seems to be repeating the same install process I did previously; and I am curious if this is going to create any redundancies on my computer. Any help?

Install two versions of final cut studio

Hi, can I Install two different versions of Final Cut Studio, and let them coexist without the previous one being erased? Let's say I have Final Cut Studio installed, and I want to Install Motion 3 that comes with Final Cut Studio 2, but keep the previous versions of the other programes. Is that possible, or the installing of Motion 3 will affect the Final Cut Pro and other applications that I had installed?

You could also do a dual boot system, though on a MacBook Pro, it may not work, due to limitations of single internal system drive.
Not sure what capacity your current system drive has...and you'd really want to think this through before committing.
You'd essentially do a full archive of your current system drive, then a full erase, create 2 partitions with one running FCS1 and the other running FCS2. You'd likely need to place 'extra content' on an external (like for Motion/STPro/DVDSP/LiveType), to keep resources to a minimum on your system drive.
Frankly, I'd be hesitant to go that route, but thought I'd toss it out there.
Ian's suggestion looked much better to me.

Using XGrid with Final Cut Studio 2

I'm at the office, we're trying to justify the purchase of a mac pro and another imac. One of the things we're looking to do is use xgrid, or some other distributed computing utility to aide Final Cut pro/studio in rendering and exports. Is there any way to set up Final Cut Pro to utilize xgrid?

Compressor, the compression/conversion utility in Final Cut Studio, has the Qmaster clustering system to distribute compression among multiple computers; Xgrid is not required. For more information, see the Qmaster forum.

Help with Installing Soundtrack 3 alongside Final Cut Studio 2

Hi All,
I am looking for advice on how to install Soundtrack Pro 3 which is part of my Logic Studio Upgrade. I have a Macbook Pro with Final Cut Studio 2 and Logic Studio. I just bought the upgrade to Logic Studio (and not Final Cut) as I mainly do audio work and rarely video editing any more.
The installation instructions say that Soundtrack Pro 3 and Compressor 3.5 have new components which are not compatible with my older Final Cut Studio 2 and will not be installed.
Is there a way to install Soundtrack Pro 3 as a standalone application in another part of my computer, like under a different user or in some way where I can open it independently from the Final Cut Studio 2 program? Or is upgrading Final Cut Studio 2 to version 3 my only option?

It's easy... just boot from your OS CD, and choose erase and install from the optional installs button once booted. Run Software update a few times until there is no more to update... This will erase the hard drive and install a new OS on it.
Install whatever.
To boot from this drive, hold down the option key during a startup , and you can pick it from the dialog box that opens. To reboot just select the other drive in the startup disk pref in Apple System prefs.

So I bought a Used copy of final cut pro 7, but i cant use it because I need a serial number and the serial number that came with it doesn't work. What do I do?

I bought my copy from ebay and when i got it I installed it, but every time i click on final cut pro 7 it asks for a serial number and when i put the on that came with it, it tells me it an invalid serail number. It is kinda making me want ti throw my mac out the window and just stick with windows.

First, find out if you bought an "Upgrade" version, or a "Full" version.
If you have an "Upgrade" version, it will require two serial numbers to work - first, the serial number of the last "Full" version you are upgrading from, then the serial number of the "Upgrade" software you are installing.

Shot on Genesis 4k, can I use proxies in Final Cut Studio 2?

So I'm on the shortlist for a music video to be shot on the panavision genesis camera at 4k. From what I know, FCS2 has proxies to edit with more easily accessable sized files, but I'm not sure if it is only for the RED camera. If I am to digitize at uncompressed 4k resolution can i ...
1. cut uncompressed on my current rig (2.33 core 2 duo, 2 gigs ram)
2. use proxies to "downconvert" the footage to edit, then spit out an edl for the colorist...?

Alright. Couple things here:
-The Genesis doesn't actually record 4K. It's a 4K sensor, but it records standard 1920x1080 to either HDCAM SR or HDCAM via the SRW deck onboard. So your format is 1080p, not 4k (or even 2k).
-Having shot and delivered many videos for many labels, there is almost zero demand by the labels for HD (or 4k) music videos. If anything, the new demand is for videos for cell phones and YouTube. Labels have VERY few outlets for HD videos.
-With all of the above in mind, it makes about zero sense to complete post on a music video in anything better than Digibeta SD, unless you really want the experience of completing post on an HD project.
-So if the Genesis is still your choice, then you need to decide whether to shoot HDCAM SR (with the consequential expensive HDCAM SR deck rental for post), or plain HDCAM. I recommend plain HDCAM. You can then bring in via JH-3 deck and DV/firewire for your offline, and then redigitize with the same deck via SD-SDI for online finishing. This is your 'proxy' idea, in effect...it's called offline/online editing.
-Get a post supervisor or editor that understands this stuff inside out before you waste thousands on deck rentals and edit bay time.

Can I install just FCP from Final Cut Studio?

I currently run an old version of FCP on a 4-year-old dual 533 G4, so it doesn't have enough power to run Motion or DVD Studio 3. I plan to buy a new G5 in about 6 months, but in the meantime I want to run FCP 5 on my old machine. Can I install just the FCP upgrade from the FC Studio disk?

Yup - and fyi fcp 5 & DVD Sp 4 run fine on my old girl (same as yours).
Motion won't install as you know.

Written/hard copy of Final Cut Studio manuals

I have done an upgrade and would relly like to know how I can puchase the manuals. I know they come as PDF files but call me old fashion

All true.
However if you don't know the term or can't spell it right, the PDF's indexing is exactly the same as the printed manuals... And you certainly can go to the index, and click on chapters that may help you. I find it still easier than carrying around a book, and flipping through the pages...it's a pdf of them that has links all thru it (can't click on a books page and jump around). But you can search it just like you would if you had the printed manual... rather than use the search dialog. Just use the index... and start clicking there, just as you would if you had the printed manual... you'd have to open pages that the index in front sends you to, right?
I think you're right, David, you can't take it away from the system unless of course you have a laptop to read it from. Which I do... and you don't even have to load FCP to get it either... just take a copy of it from the contents of FCP's application icon. It's a bit buried there, but it's not impossible at all.
I still prefer the online docs... I wanna save the trees. It doesn't really cost Apple all that much to print them, so we'd not save all that much except in shipping charges. Nevertheless... a tree saved is a tree making nice air.

Final Cut Studio Pro 2 Install - Skip Final Cut Pro itself - TT_NEWALREADYI

Dear All,
I hope you can help. I have just bought a new Macbook Pro 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB RAM, with OS X 10.4.10 running. It came with iLife 08.
I installed Logic Studio 8 (which was successful), and have been trying to install my copy of Final Cut Studio 2. When I run the installation, the options appear for custom install, but FInal Cut Pro, Compressor and QMaster are greyed out, and the action identified for them is "skip. If I rest the mouse over any of the options the text TT_NEWERALREADYINSTALLED appears.
I have tried uninstalling the Logic Studio components with AppZapper, and retrying the install of Final Cut Studio, but no matter what I try to do, it won't install Final Cut Pro.
Can anybody help?

So I installed my copy of Final Cut Studio on my computer, but cannot locate it anywhere. I do have a version of FCPX on my computer already, so I'm wondering if this is causing a conflict? Thanks for your help.

Final Cut Studio - no access to Updates..

I installed my copy of Final Cut Studio it runs well (except Motion2) but if I try to upgrade it to the latest FCS 1 version of the software the installer on the website asks me for my Apple ID - but I dont know which one I used for installing my company software - it's for sure not my personal Apple ID.
so how can I get info about the company Apple ID name that i might have used whe installing it originally?
please let me know - I still have to use FCP 5.0.1 - and there is a software update available even for FInal Cut Studio (not the 2nd version of it)

Your Apple ID is the same one you use to log on to these discussions.
You enter that first to get access.
Then you need your Final Cut Studio number to download.
Have you tried using "Software Update" ?
