Installing VDE (Virtual Distributed Ethernet) on OS X 10.4.9

I've been attempting to install vde-1.5.11
(available at http://sourceforge.net/projects/vde )
with tuntap enabled (which I installed, I believe correctly) and got from http://www-user.rhrk.uni-kl.de/~nissler/tuntap/
but when I run the ./configure, the output seems fine until the last 4 lines:
checking linux/if_tun.h usability... no
checking linux/if_tun.h presence... no
checking linux/if_tun.h... no
configure: error: Tuntap support seem to be not enabled on your kernel.
if anybody knows a good guide for installing vde-1.5.11, or can guide me through it, I'd be very appreciative (need this for a senior research project that's due in 12 days and I have yet to start testing :/)
Thanks in advance!

You don't provide enough info for an exact answer.
What model Mac do you have & what OS is currently installed? You nee to add this info to your Apple Discussions profile.
The max (and last) version of Tiger 10.4 is 10.4.11. If you currently have some version of 10.4.x installed, you need to install the combo update at this site http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_4_11_Combo_Update__PPC
If you are currently running a version of OS X lower than 10.4 (like Panther 10.3), you can't use the free download update to upgrade to 10.4. You have to buy the Tiger install DVD, install 10.4 & then update to 10.4.11

    Hi,
According to the result of "ipconfig /all", the physical adapter dosen't appear.
Please check if the physical network adapter works properly. We can verify this in Device Manager.
To open Device Manager by using the Windows interface
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    Click Hardware and Sound.
    Click Device Manager.
If the network adapter is working properly, please make sure that the Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4) has been checked in the properties of the physical network adapter.
If issue persists, please try to uninstall the Oracle Virtual box.
    Best Regards.

While installing Oracle Virtual Directory Client on solaris 10, I am getting
"ovidm1014.bin : /tmp/install.dir.<number>/linux/resource/jre/bin/java: cannot execute" error while initiating the installer.

    Hi,
    Thanks once again for reply!!
If you already installed Oracle Virtual Directory Manager on Sun SPARC, can you brief us pre-requisite setting and installation steps, so that we can follow the same.
Because, we are getting error in the initialization of installation process itself. So, I think there must be some configuration settings to be made.
We already raised SR (Service Request) with Oracle, bu there is no reply from their side till now.
I am waiting for your reply ASAP

  • Can Solaris be installed in Virtual PC 2007?

    Hello
Can Solaris 10 be installed within Virtual PC 2007?
The reason I want to use Virtual PC instead of something like VMware or VirtualBox, is because of it's [BCD capabilities|http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=129475].
Please tell me if it is possible to install Solaris within the Virtual PC 2007 virtual machine.
    Thanks in advance,
    Panarchy

OpenSolaris is an open source project and the community can definitely take on something like this. OpenSolaris 2008.11 is tested for the following VM,
Xvm (Xen), VirtualBox, VMware and informally Parallels under OS X. I would encourage you to first verify if this is an issue for OpenSolaris 2008.11 and if so start the discussions on [email protected] LiveCD iso is under 700MB so it does not take too long to download.

  • How to access Sql Server Express installed on Virtual PC from Host?

I have SQL Server Express 2008 R2 installed on Virtual PC. and on my Host machine i have SQL Server 2008 R2 ( Enterprise Version) installed.
Since Management studio that comes with SQL express does not support SQL profiler, i want to access SQL Server Express from the Host machine’s management studio which has SQL profiler.
But I could access it using VM’s ip address & instance name

    Hi lax,
Follow below steps in your Virtual Machine:
    1. Allow remote connections to this server
The first thing you want to check is if Remote Connections are enabled on your SQL Server database. In SQL Server 2008 you do this by opening SQL Server 2008 Management Studio, connect to the server in question, right click the server and open the Server Properties.
Navigate to Connections and ensure that Allow remote connections to this server is checked.
    2.  Protocols for MSSQLServer
The next good thing to check is the SQL Server Network Configuration. Open the SQL Server Configuration Manager, unfold the node SQL Server Network Configuration and select Protocols for MSSQLServer (or whatever the name of your SQL Server instance is). Make
    sure that TCP/IP is enabled.
    3. The Firewall
If there is still no communication happening between your computer and the remote SQL Server you most likely need to configure your firewall settings.
A good first step is to figure out which port is being used by TCP/IP (and which you need to open in your firewall). You can do this by right clicking TCP/IP and selecting Properties. Click on the tab IP Addresses .
That was easy enough and all there is left to do is to allow inbound TCP/IP traffic on Port 1433 in your firewall. In Windows 7 this works something like this. Open the Control Panel and navigate to Windows Firewall. Click on Advanced Settings on the left hand
side and you should see the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security. Select the Inboud Rules on the left hand side and click on New Rule on the right hand side. This opens the New Inbound Rule Wizard which you can use to allow inbound traffic on Port 1433
    for TCP/IP.
For more information, please refer to
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/walzenbach/archive/2010/04/14/how-to-enable-remote-connections-in-sql-server-2008.aspx.
    In host machine:
After you have done steps above, you could use the SQL Server Management Studio in the host machine to connect the SQL Server Express R2 in Virtual PC. If you installed a default instance in Virtual PC, you could use VirtualComputerName to login the SQL
Server database engine. If you installed a named instance in Virtual PC, you could use VirtualComputerName\InstanceName to login the SQL Server database engine.
    Thanks,
    Maggie

  • Problem installing "Hamachi Virtual Ethernet Adapter" - Acces is Denied

    Hello,
I was trying to install driver mentioned in the title through Device Manager, but everytime I was getting "Access is denied" message.I was doing it using Admin account, changed UAC options. Trying to install it through hdwwiz just creates Unknown

I've connected my MacBook Air to my wife's MacBook using an ethernet cord and the apple USB-ethernet adaptor, but unfortunately when I boot the MBA using ALT it doesn't recognize the disk on the other computer.
    Any suggestions?

  • Error Installing on virtual host

    Hi all,
I try to install (system copy) CRM4.0 virtualized on 2 hosts, node_A (for Central Instance) and node_B (for Database Instance) on one physical box (AIX 5.3, DB2 Version 9.1 Fixpack 2).
For this i use the sapinst parameter SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME=node_A. The Central Installation went through smoothly. Then i change the physical hostname of my AIX to node_B for the DB-installation, without SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME.
In the step where i have to define the filesystem where my database export is (Software Package Check) i get this error:
    ERROR 2007-11-06 09:18:42
    CJSlibModule::writeError_impl()
    MUT-03010 Execution of the command "db2 -tvf last_command.sql -r last_command.res -z last_command.out" finished with status TST_ERROR.
I think my installation has problems with cataloging the database in the database catalog...
    thanks, günther

    Good morning,
sapinst is really weird. In the step where sapinst has to create the database instance (thats the first part of the installation, Central instance installation) i found this in sapinst_dev.log:

    Explanation: (db2icrt creates db-instance) db2icrt -a SERVER_ENCRYPT -s client -w 64 -u db2dcr db2dcr
    ===> "-s client" = client installation ?
    ===> "-w 64" = unknown switch, old one...
Furthermore i have seen that also IBM has some strange entries in their scripts, for example in db2icrt (i installed V9 Fixpack 2)
    db2licm -v
    9.1
    # NAME: db2icrt
    1. FUNCTION: db2icrt - creates a DB2 V8 instance.
    ===> Version 8 ???
    Back to your question:
When i run the script with -tvf then the script is able to start the database. but a connect is not possible:
    db2start
DB20000I The DB2START command completed successfully.
    connect to DCR
SQL1224N The database manager is not able to accept new requests, has
terminated all requests in progress, or has terminated your particular request
due to a problem with your request. SQLSTATE=55032
While he tries to open a connection to the database he forkes alot of db2agents
    % db2_ps | grep db2agent | wc -l
    200
    % db2 get dbm cfg | grep -i agents
Priority of agents (AGENTPRI) = SYSTEM
Max number of existing agents (MAXAGENTS) = 400
    Agent pool size (NUM_POOLAGENTS) = 200(calculated)
Initial number of agents in pool (NUM_INITAGENTS) = 0
    Back to my assumption:
I guess the root cause has something to do with the uncorrect database instance creation above (central instance). sapinst is not able to create a proper db instance (...client, see above). so i do this step manually. then sapinst cataloges the database:
    % db2 list db directory
    System Database Directory
Number of entries in the directory = 1
    Database 1 entry:
    Database alias = DCR
    Database name = DCR
    Node name = NODEDCR
    Database release level = b.00
    Comment = Remote database DCR
    Directory entry type = Remote
Catalog database partition number = -1
    Alternate server hostname =
    Alternate server port number =
    % db2 list node directory
    Node Directory
Number of entries in the directory = 1
    Node 1 entry:
    Node name = NODEDCR
Comment = TCPIP Node for database DCR
    Directory entry type = LOCAL
    Protocol = TCPIP
    Hostname = sapdcr00
    Service name = sapdb2DCR

  • How to install Mavericks virtual machine in Parallels Desktop 10

Can somebody point me in the direction on how to create a Mavericks VM in Parallels Desktop 10 running on Yosemite?  I've upgraded to Yosemite with the thought that Bento would work just fine (based on a small amount of research) until I can get fully migrated off it.  Upon firing up Yosemite, Bento is unresponsive.  I know Bento is dead, but I still have data I need to reference for another month or two.  Setting up a VM of a known OS that works seems like it'd be a quick fix...

    Hi Király,
I can't find a copy of the Yosemite SLA on the Apple site using Search functions in the Support section of that site.  I tried all sorts of things including just a general "Software Licensing Agreement".  Got a list of sorts, not including Yosemite.  Do you have a URL?
    It's here: OS X (Yosemite)
The link can be found here: http://www.apple.com/legal/sla/
The SLA that applies in the OP's case, though, is the Mavericks SLA, since that's what he wants to install in a VM.
I don't want to confirm your comment re VMs, though, as an aside, I'd point out that Apple "invited" me to upgrade after I correctly made a Mavericks VM while running Mavericks.  I do want to read what the ruling would be on having Yosemite on an external bootable drive, given my internal drive boots Mavericks.
There are no licensing restrictions against having different versions of OS X on external bootable drives. That's fine. It's running OS X in VMs that is restricted. "The Apple Software" as defined by the Mavericks license, can be run in a VM, as long as the Mac computer that is running it is "already running the Apple software."
If Apple had allowed 10.9 to be run inside a VM with a different OS X version as the host, the license would have said this:
(iii) to install, use and run up to two (2) additional copies or instances of the Apple Software within virtual operating system environments on each Mac Computer you own or control that is already running the Apple Software, for purposes of: (a) software development; (b) testing during software development; (c) using OS X Server; or (d) personal, non-commercial use.
But that's not what it says, of course.

  • Macpro 5,1 installed yosemite, now no ethernet

I have a mid-2010 MacPro, 12-core 2.66Ghz, 22GB RAM.  It has 2 drives installed:  one runs Mavericks 10.9.5, the other runs Yosemite 10.10.  When I boot in Mavericks, everything is fine.  When I boot into Yosemite, there is no ethernet at all.  When I first installed it, ethernet worked fine--I installed App Store apps, Adobe CC apps and my audio interface (Fireface UFX) driver.
    I've tried:
    - renewing DHCP lease
    - creating new location, removing all services except "Ethernet 1"
    - manually entering DHCP address
    - numerous reboots
    - unplugging all unnecessary devices
My router is a Netgear Nighthawk R7000 with the latest firmware.  I monitor it with an MBP/Mavericks.
As a test, I tried enabling Wi-Fi--no networks show up, though I'm connected wirelessly right now on my MBP.
I'm competent on the command line, so don't be afraid to suggest more complex fixes.
    Thanks in advance,
    -Tony

    FOUND A SOLUTION! (SOLVED)
you have to manually delete the following files:
    SYSTEM DRIVE ▸ Library ▸ Extensions > CalDigitHDProDrv.kext
    SYSTEM DRIVE ▸ System ▸ Library ▸ Extensions > CalDigitFastIO.kext
    SYSTEM DRIVE ▸ System ▸ Library ▸ Extensions > CalDigitUSBxHCI.kext
also the Inateck KT4004 PCI-E card for Apple Mac Pro (4-Ports, USB 3.0) works far better for way less money and faster USB 3.0 speed and even USB 3.0 hubs work and the card does not need any  extra internal power supply! go for it ... forget the CalDigit FASTA! Keep in mind tho' if you have to delete dose files as well to use that card!

  • RAC Install on Virtual Machines

    Howdy....
I am trying to get first steps into RAC. I only got one Notebook to work with ... and since VMware works nice I figured ...I might be able to setup a two node cluster.
I wonder if it is even possible? (I am thinking of Failovertimes and such ...)
SO, you guys - would it even be possible to setup RAC on a single Notebook with everything - just to simulate RAC DB and maybe a client to simulate a productive environment?
btw. this aint too urgent ... this is only "homework" and in the sense ... I would also APPRECIATE any documentation on this subject ... all I found are these Links... (pretty standard)
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b14207/crswin.htm#BEHIHBBF
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/clustering/cvu/readme/cvu_11_linux64.pdf
    any ideas?
    cheers.
uhh .... before I forget ... VMWARE Player and Server 2008 and Vista /or XP are available

Can someone please outline why a VMware RAC has any
    use at all ?
For testing I hear you cry ..... but it's not the
same since it's not supported at all ...
the only possible reason might be to get experience
    installing.
But if you are getting experience trying to install
on something that Oracle has said they do not
support... is that not completely banging your head
    against a wall....
Also there is clusterware testing. But if you are
not using real machines it is not the same - so why
    bother ? verifying adapters/switches/link
    negotiation/ SAN connectivity/cabling and power
    cabling -pulling
still all needs to be done, so means you are wasting
    time with VMware
    Just my 0.05c.
ChrisI know what you mean .... and yes I am tryin´to waste some time ;)
    Also:
i never had to work with rac at all - and I do would like to gain some experience in installing .... just a brain teaser ... and obviously I am having problems to do so .. muahahha because I failed ... I couldn t even setup a cluster under windows .... but i am guessing that that was my fault - I played with vmware so much that 2008 couldn t even format his new virtual HD ...*hihihii*
and also yes I am playing ORA11g on server 2008 and vista .... devlish grins
YEAH - I am bored as hell!!!!!!No work right now !!!!
And my boss isn t giving me any hardware ... all I have is this tiny notebook that I am tryin to fool into a rac system with oracle ... and I am gonna try until it blows up ! ;)
Do you have and idea's whatelse is fun that I could do? since I am a beginner and such ...

  • When trying to install Aid Virtual Instruments I get a warning no mountable file systems. I need help fixing the problem.

When trying to install Pro Tools 10.3.3 Aid Virtual Instruments I get a warning no mountable file systems. I need help fixing the problem.

Thanks Linc for responding to my post. I searched a little further and found I was missing a file. Once I downloaded the fix, I was able to install the software from the original download.
