Installing Veritas SF on Solaris 10 5/08 - perl - cannot execute

Hi all,
I have been trying to install the Storage Foundation on a Solaris 10 5/08 box. Running ./installer from the DVD gives me quickly the following error message, 3 repeated lines (referring to file/folders on the DVD):
./installer: ./perl/SunOS/perl/bin/perl: cannot execute
./installer: ./perl/SunOS/perl/bin/perl: cannot execute
./installer: ./perl/SunOS/perl/bin/perl: cannot execute
After installing Solaris I updated it and installed the companion programs. I also compiled and installed the more recent perl 5.8.8.
Does anyone have any idea why the Storage Foundation is giving me this? All the r/x. rights are in place.
Best regards

Hi,
Why aren't you just unzip the file locally, on your target server? It shouldn't use a lot of space.

catalin.

  • Installing spam assassin on solaris 9

I'm getting "optional module missing" message while installing the spam assassin. And I had so much trouble installing any module perl module on solaris. Maybe someone here knows an easy way to install spam assassin on solaris.

    use perlgcc
Perl remembers what compiler was used when it was first compiled, and unless you purchase the Sun compiler, you'll be using "gcc". Sun provides you with a version of perl compiled with gcc, so you can do stuff like you're trying to do.....

  • Does solaris cluster 3.3 need  to install veritas vxvm software?

    hello buddy
I read the document for solaris cluster 3.3 , and see it need to install veritas vxvm.
why need veritas vxvm if I have solaris cluster ?
    Thanks

You need to use either Solaris Volume Manager, or Veritas Volume Manager. With clustering you need a disk manager that is cluster aware, iow, it needs to know that one disk can be accessed by more than one server at a time.
Have a look at chapter 3 in the Cluster installation manual for the steps to use Solaris Volume Manager. It's iportant to use the /dev/did disk names

I am very new to Solaris and Oracle; Please help me with this.

Check also if the t-bit is set:
    [root@vtl1g121 ~]# ls -dl /tmp
    drwxrwxrwt 11 root root 4096 Apr 10 11:44 /tmp
This is needed to mark the filesystem/directory as temporary.
Sometimes this can cause such problems also
    Command: chmod +t   /tmp

First make sure that you are logged in as "root", or use su [root password] to be logged in as.
And then try all that things again.

  • Installing Oracle 9i in Solaris 10

    Hi
I have a server having OS Solaris 10 SPARC Edition 64 bit. I want to install Oracle 9i client in that server. I have seen in many forums ppl saying that Oracle 9i is not compatible with Solaris 10 and there are some issues related to patches.
Can anyone help me in this matter.
    Thanks and Regards

    Thanks for your replies guys.
I successfully installed Oracle9i client in Solaris 10. Initially I had to set up the Kernel parameteres as Prajeevan has suggested. Later the installation was quite staright forward and same as for Linux server.
Thanks for giving your precious time for replying to my query.

  • Installing JDS 3 on Solaris 10 SPARC previously running CDE

Does anyone have experience of installing JDS3 on SPARC architectures? Most of the posts seem to relate to x86. I'm having trouble installing JDS3 from the Solaris 6/06 distribution.
I have a jumpstart config which starts with a SUNWCrnet and adds the minimum to provide a CDE with XDM log in. We thought we'd try JDS3 so I've expanded the profile to include all packages in the Sol10 6/06 distribution which are marked as belonging to the GNOME2 or JDS3 categories.
This gives the option for selecting JDS from the login session menu. The desktop comes up ok but then we get error messages:
'Failed to execute child process "xscreensaver" '
Attempting to start any application from any menu results in the following message:
    'Cannot launch entry
Details: Text was empty (or contained only white space)'
    I can't even open a terminal.
It looks like a major piece of configuration data is missing but I'm not sure where to start looking.
Any help for an old SPARC head gratefully received.

Xscreensaver needs to have both /usr/openwin/bin and /usr/X11/bin in the user's $PATH. Add the line:
    PATH=$PATH:/usr/openwin/bin:/usr/X11/bin
in your .profile and that should do it for you.

  • Problems installing oracle10g database on solaris 10 running on AMD64 3200+

I wanted to install oracle 10g database on Solaris 10 06/06 running on AMD Athlon64 3200+ processor. I downloaded Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0) for Solaris Operating System (x86-64) from the oracle 10g database download page. It was of 739,713,699 bytes size which is more than a CD could contain (702MB). So I extracted the contents of the zip file on the disk and split them into two parts in different directories as:
    Part 1 containing:
    1. {split_directory1}/doc .... folder
    2. {split_directory1}/install .... folder
    3. {split_directory1}/response .... folder
    4. {split_directory1}/runInstaller .... folder
    5. {split_directory1}/welcome.html .... file
    Part 2 containing:
    1. {split_directory2}/stage .... folder
I then burned them into two separate disks as compressed zip files
one of size 8.05MB and the other of size 697MB.
To install it I first extracted the contents of both the zip files in a common folder with same directory structure. Then i run the runInstaller file.
But an error message is displayed saying:
    "./runInstaller: /opt/oracle/install/.oui: cannot execute"
where "/opt/oracle" is the common folder containing the extracted files.
Can you tell me what went wrong and how to install the oracle database correctly.
Presently I do not have a direct internet connection to the Solaris machine and I am quiet sure that I have not missed any file while splitting and burning the on CD.

    Hi,
Why aren't you just unzip the file locally, on your target server? It shouldn't use a lot of space.

You may be experiencing a conflict with a previously installed Java - the current Solaris 10 comes with 1.5.0_05, I believe.
