Installing Virtual PC from CD

I am trying to install VPC7 on my Mini and it doesnt get to the end of Step 1! The first time I tried it asked me to restart but then it didnt go any further.
I am logged in as Admin AFAIK (I'm the only user & other Mac software has accepted my login) but I cant get the installation to progress any further. I have a 2-CD installation that came with Office for Mac if that is of any revellance.
What do I do?
Helen
mini   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Helen,
Are you using one of the newest Intel Mac Minis, or
is it a PowerPC Mac Mini? You can find out by
clicking on the blue apple on the top left side of
the screen and selecting "about this mac".
Its one of the newest minis Julian.
I've just spotted that according to the leaflet thing that is with the disks that VPC 7 runs on 10.2.8 to 10.3 and I have 10.4.3, which also might go some way to explain things as well!
I believe Virtual PC does not work on the new Intel
Macs. If you have an Intel Mac there's a company
called Parallels that sells a utility just like
Virtual PC, and works on the Intel Mac.
I'll look into that other software, thanks.

I hope this helps,
Julian
It has a lot.

  • Need help installing Virtual box Windows VM's

I am installing virtual box on wife's mac.   I got the instructions here: http://osxdaily.com/2011/09/04/internet-explorer-for-mac-ie7-ie8-ie-9-free/
I did it previously and it all worked well. Recently the windows session license expired so I reinstalled that portion and it worked for about a week.  Then the Virtual box program just stopped working.   So I uninstalled the virtual box and am attempting to reinstall all components.
First step is install Virtual box from here:  https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads   This went ok andvirtual box runs but there are no VM's.
There is then a script to install the windows VM's.  It is failing.
Script is accessed by copyinf this command into terminal:
    curl -s https://raw.github.com/xdissent/ievms/master/ievms.sh | bash
This is the error I get.   It seems there is a file that already exists but I'm stumped as to what to do.

Here is how I install mine, for numbers I will assume you have a 100GB HDD and 2GB of RAM:
Boot from Win7 DVD and create two partitions, then install Windows7 on one of them. During the install Windows will create a 3rd partition to boot from. You will now have:
    sda1 - 100MB - Windows Boot - boot flag
    sda2 - 50GB - Windows 7 - no flags
    sda3 - 50GB - Unpartitioned Space - no flags
Next boot into Arch and choose to manually partition the drives using cfdisk, using the unfinished space create 3 logical partitions of the sizes 100MB, 2GB, and 50GB. Mark the 100MB one you just created with a boot flag and unmark the 100MB one Windows created.
    Now you should have:
    sda1 - 100MB - Windows Boot - no flags
    sda2 - 50GB - Windows 7 - no flags
    sda3 - 50GB - Unpartitioned Space - no flags
    sda5 - 100MB - Linux Boot - boot flag
    sda6 - 2GB - Linux Swap - no flags
    sda7 - 50GB - Arch - no flags
Click OK/Confirm/Write and then continue to the next step - File Systems and Mountpoints.
Here you need to set the FS for sda5,6,7 and make sure not to touch sda1,2. Choose ext2 for sda5, swap for sda6, and ext3 for sda7. You will also be asked for mountpoints. Pick "/boot" for sda5 and "/" for sda7. Click OK/Confirm/Write and then continue to install Arch like normal, when you get to installing the bootloader make sure to install it on /dev/sda and uncomment the Windows part of the grub/menu.lst file.
Reboot the system and you are done

Problems were found which would prevent VirtualBox from installing.
Please correct these problems and try again.
    Any helps would be appreciated.

Virtualbox only need the kernel headers during the build phase. Even if that wasn't the case, pacman can handle dependencies just fine.
    Indeed, my mistake.

  • I GET AN ERROR X-86 WHEN INSTALLING A PROGRAM FROM AHIMA VIRTUAL LAB REGISTRATION

In my class, I need to install Virtual lab through Ahima.org (https://cernaes.cernerworks.com/AHIMA/auth/login.aspx ). While installing, I get an error stating ...
"The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\Plugins. This installation cannot continue. Log on as administrator or contact your system administrator."
I am the administrator. This is a new laptop with Windows 8. I can install this program on Vista but not Windows 8.

I have a similar situation but the menu item "Run As Administrator" is not offered in Windows 8 for the *.msi item I am trying to install as it is for any *.exe file.
Also I have looked and there is no directory called "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\Plugins\resources" which is the location it says it cannot access due to lack of privilege.

  • How to install Windows 7 from a bootable usb in Mavericks

I updated to Mavericks (os x 10.9) a few days ago and finding it near impossible to install windows 7 on my macbook pro mid-2010.  I put Windows 7 64 bit on a bootable usb using a windows pc.  Any time I try and use the Boot Camp assistant it gives me the two options of (1) installing the latest windows support software from apple and (2) install windows 7.  When I try and do either it just fails and says "can't install the software because it is not currently available from the software update server".  I've even tried it with a blank usb 8gb free and it says the same thing.  I also created a partition myself and tried to boot it up holding the option key and install it that way with the bootable drive in and it still will not download.  Is it possible to do it without using the boot camp assistant at all? I've tried to method of removing the "Pre" from the backup assistant in the "Info.plist" and still no luck.

In the last 3 days I've put around 10 hours trying to get windows 7 installed without using a superdrive.
If you still have a cd drive (internal) I promise, as much of a hassle as it sounds it is 10x easier to get a disk and burn windows to it, or simply buy a pre-made windows disk.
Over like 10 threads this is what I found slowly
-You can't install from an external cd drive
-You can't boot from a usb (even if bootcamp makes it for you with the plist tweak)
-The plist tweak won't work in mavericks without using xcode to resign the code (this took me awhile and then I found out the usb was useless anyways)
Otherwise, there is a method that is beyond complicated. It consists of installing half of windows 7 via virtual machine, rebooting, deleting the installed data, replacing it, and finally completeing the install.
I performed this method today on an Early 2011 Macbook pro running 10.9 that has had the disk drive removed in order to add a ssd. I'm documenting it here regardless of whether you need it simply because this information needs to be concise. People on this forum will also tell you it can't be done.
This method is free and legal.
    You will need:
-rEFind (older guides will tell you to use rEFit but it is not currently supported by 10.9 this is made by the same developer)
    -windows iso w/key
    -Virtual box
-NTFS for mac os x (free trial)
This guide is written by user "severin" here http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-1534533.html
    1. Make a Boot Camp partition with Boot Camp assistant.
    2. Install rEFIt
    3. Install a NTFS program for Mac, like Tuxera NTFS(serial at serials.ws) or Paragon NTFS.
    4. Install Oracle Virtualbox.
    5. Make a virtual disk from the Boot Camp partition, follow step 6 and 7.
    6. The first thing we need to do is eject the BootCamp partition – Open “Finder”. “Control- >Click” the “Bootcamp” drive and select “Eject” (You can also the DiskUtility as well)
    7. Now for the geeky terminal stuff to make the BootCamp partition useable within VirtualBox. Open a terminal (located in /Applications/Utilities) and enter the following commands. Make sure to press “Return” after each command to run it.
sudo chmod 777 /dev/disk0s3 –Changes the permissions of the BootCamp partition to allow it to be modified (enter your admin password when asked)
sudo VBoxManage internalcommands createrawvmdk -rawdisk /dev/disk0 -filename win7raw.vmdk -partitions 3 –Creates 2 files in your home directory, one of which will be used by VirtualBox to access the BootCamp Partition
sudo chown YOUR-USER-NAME-HERE win7raw.vmdk win7raw-pt.vmdk –changes the permissions of the previously created files (Replace YOUR-USER-NAME-HERE with the current user name)
    8. Fire up VirtualBox, make a new Virtual Machine on the disk just created.
    9. Install Windows on the Virtual Machine just created with a iso image or like so.
Format the Bootcamp partition in the install menu and press install.
    10. Before installations restarts automatically after install power off the virtual machine.
    11. Restart the computer back into OS X.
    12. Remove all files possible in the bootcamp-partition and move in all the files possible from the Windows iso-image.
    13. Restart the computer and choose "Boot Windows from partition x" in rEFIt.
    14. Install Windows on the same partition as you booted from. Don't format it just click install on it.
    15. When Windows is done installing, reboot in to OS X and you can now remove all the before installed programs. You can now boot the Windows-installation by the normal way, holding alt when starting the computer.
    16. Smash something in happiness.
We install Windows in VirtualBox to get diskinformation printed on the partition. If you try to boot the partition it will give you "Missing file: C:\Windows\System32\Winload.exe", therefore we replace the files with the DVD-files, to actually boot the windows installation.
Just a couple of notes that I got stuck on:
The commands he uses may not work for your drives, they depend on how your partitions are setup, but if you research this issue with booting (there are lots of threads) there are terminal methods for figuring out the proper drive
Step 8: Use the file you created (windows 7 raw) to create the virtual machine and then under storage upload your windows 7 iso under ide devices.
If you have a windows computer simply make the support drive on there, don't play with bootcamp. Download the support software (just google bootcamp support) and just drag and drop onto a flashdrive. Then run setup when ready.
    Good Luck

  • How to uninstall Virtual PC from mac Lion?

    Hi,
I installed a Virtual PC (7 version) machine on my mac system yesterday but I found it cannot work because the compatible issue, my system is OS X mountain lion. It is always saying "Power PC applications are no longer supported". Now what I want is just uninstall Virtual PC from my mac and I do not want to bother using it. Because what bothers me is that the panel show in the Finder is not like previously shown. There are not the left favoraties column shown any more. I cannot go to the right folder to see files and it create so big trouble! I just want everything back. Another thing is that everytime when it starts up, there will be a box pop up saying like "the virtual machine cannot start up because the setting is not right" things like this. I guess the Virtual PC disorder some settings in OS X system.
So I only want to unistall this Virtual PC. I guess it can not be remove by just simpy delete the icon in applciations, am I right? I find the "Uninstal Virtual PC" icon in the dmg package, but when I dounble click it, it also shows "You can't open the application "Uninstal Virtual PC" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported"! which drives me crazy. Does anyone know about how to uninstall Virtual PC from mac for this situation? I appreciate your help.
    Thanks,
    Amanda

I just followed the instructions and clicked contunue.  I guess I just finished part 1, the installing part. The details are:
    section 1: installing virtual PC
section 2: setting up virtual PC
    section 3: setting up windows
In Section 1 you will install the Virtual PC for Mac application and supporting files. You will need to restart your computer at the end of Section 1.
Section 2 covers personalizing Virtual PC for Mac and the installation of Windows.
In Section 3, you will configure Windows."
I clicked continue to let it install (section 1). After that, Mac restarted and it never asked me to set up virtual PC. All the problems aboved mentioned came up afterwards.
    Did I do anything wrong?
    Thanks.

  • Windows 8 will not boot - After install virtual box (virtualization)

I installed virtual box and now I am unable to start window 8.
I read online that there is a known issue with virtualization on windows 8. They suggested trying to toggle virtualization on/off in the bios which has not solved my problem. Does anyone know of anything else I can do to get my install back? I really do
not want to have to re-install windows.  I have only had windows 8 installed for three weeks!

I tried upgrading from VirtualBox 4.3.12 to 4.3.20 and ended up with an unbootable machine (Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit). It would come up to the desktop but nothing would work - there were no icons on the desktop, the tray applications didn't seem to be loading,
the transparent task bar was shown as a block of solid colour. Pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL brought up the menu where I could choose Task Manager, but the Task Manager itself would not show up, just a dialog warning me that a process was not responding and asking
if I wanted to end the task (I forget the exact wording). Clicking "End task" that dialog removed the dialog only for it to appear again a minute later. It was not possible to do anything with the machine or to open the Task Manager.
I have updated through a number of versions of VirtualBox without issue. 4.3.20 seems to be a bad update. Unless some other recent update has changed something in Windows so that the VirtualBox update now conflicts.
I forced the system to turn off then used System Restore to reset it to an earlier time. System Restore told me it had failed with an error, but then when I rebooted the machine a dialog came up at the desktop saying that System Restore had succeeded. It
works again now but I am stuck with the older version of VirtualBox.

    Yes, you can.
You will need to configure the virtual network switch as either internal or external.
Then, you'll need to specify the IP address of the virtual Domain Controller as a DNS Server on the Windows 8.1 device.

  • Install Windows XP from external DVD

Hi all. A question: I can install Windows XP from an external DVD drive (usb)? My original superdrive is dead from long time ago. Thanks a lot.

If you use something to make a ISO of the Windows disk it might be possible to load it into a virtual machine software running in OS X.
    Haven't tried it.
    Interesting Idea.

  • Install Virtual Guest Services option not updating Server 2012 Guests

    Hi,
    I'm using VMM 2012 SP1 Update Rollup 3 and Hyper-V 2012.
I have installed KB2908415 hotfix onto our Hyper-V clusters to resolve stability issues with CSVs.  Installing this hotfix causes an update in Integration Tools to version 6.2.9200.20873.
If I shut down my virtual machine and use the manual option of "Install Virtual Guest Services" it completes successfully but the Integration Tools aren't upgraded on the virtual machine.  This only happens with Server 2012 guest machines
(Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 guest machines are updated successfully.  I have tried refreshing the virtual machine in VMM so the Integration Tools version is displayed.
VMM mounts the iso from c:\windows\system32 onto the virtual machine but the install doesn't seem to start.
Has anyone managed to get this working?
    Thanks,
    Emma

I attempted to create a new VM and was met with the same error but I'm able to create a VM using Hyper-V manager.

  • Installing Virtual PC

I reclaimed my PB G4 and installed Leopard without any issues. I really like the small form and would like to use it for those "lighter" moments instead of MBP but I need to run IE on it occasionally. I have Virtual PC I purchased when I originally purchased my PB G4 so I can install that. Here's my question(s).
Is there a compatibility problem with Leopard? Is this the only program I can use on a PB G4 to run windows?
Message was edited by: Chris Sterns

I have had no probems running virtual PC in Leopard. Virtual PC "came over" from the install under Tiger supporting Windows XP Professional after upgrading Mac OS X. Virtual PC is not supported under Leopard however. I do not try and use all the hardware features available under Virtual PC as I have found these things to be problematic. Virtual PC is very slow and will not run at all acceptably in my view, for example, when you install anti-virus software.
After having one problem after another with Virtual PC and considering the disk space it can take on a portable computer with limited resources, I adopted the following solution which I find works quite well. Install Virtual PC on Tiger, using a large Windows partition to allow for many possible applications, and clone the system to a bootable Firewire drive. You can then remove Virtual PC from your computer drive. You may then boot your Windows system on any Mac computer you have from the firewire hard drive. This is more practical and cost effective as it might first seem for occasional use - you only need a single license and you have your entire regular system for OS X. I use the Lacie mobile drive which is compact and fits in my small computer case without any problems and does not require any AC power. You can also partition the portable drive conveniently for large data backups and data transfers. I keep a clone of the Virtual PC system with Windows XP professional on the same drive and if I have any Windows problems, and who does not, i simply go back to that working copy and do not waste hours reinstalling all this marginal software all over again. The LaCie portable mobile drive is not that expensive and has been reliable - some computer models require you to plug the drive into two port connectors, including my PowerBook G4, to get enough power out to the mobile drive. I use Carbon Copy Cloner (Freeware) to clone the bootable Firewire drive.

  • How to install Virtual Keyboard with Different language ?

    HI,
How to install Virtual Keyboard with Different language (Arabic) in MacBook Pro ( Mac OS X v10.5.8 Leopard).
    Thanks,

How to install Virtual Keyboard with Different language (Arabic) in MacBook Pro ( Mac OS X v10.5.8 Leopard).
What are you talking about exactly?
OS X comes with a virtual keyboard already. It is called Keyboard Viewer. You activate it by going to system prefs/international/input menu and checking its box (plus the box for Show Input Menu in Finder). At the same time you can check the boxes for the Arabic keyboard layouts.
You can then select the Arabic keyboard layouts and the Keyboard Viewer from the "flag" menu at the top-right of the Finder.
Let us know if you have further questions. If you are talking about some specific non-Apple app, could you provide the url?

  • Trouble installing virtual pc

i recently uninstalled Virtual PC from my computer bc it was shutting down unexpectedly. Now, I'm trying to reinstall the software and when i put the installing cd in;;;;; nothing happens after i double-click to install. The screen after putting the cd in has 3 options; install virtual pc. read me. manuals and tools. They work when i click on then expect for installing pc. at the very top it states; 3 items, 0KB available. Does this mean i have no space available? My computer has 1.25 GB on it.
    please offer assistance

The error message is referring to disk space not RAM. How did you uninstall VPC from within Windows? I'd be glad to try and help, but frankly I don't understand what you've done, and the explanation you've given doesn't seem to make sense to me.
Have you removed the VPC application from your Mac's hard drive along with the VPC preference files, .pkg receipts, the virtual hard drive, etc. and all the other stuff VPC installs? I really need for you to provide me with some more information. Also, I need to know how large your hard drive is and how much free space you have on it.
Are you aware that there is a VPC Uninstaller on the VPC 7 Installer CD? It's located in the additional Tools folder on the CD. Did you use the uninstaller?

  • Error Installing Adobe Air from Story Desktop Application Installer

This is truly driving me nuts already.
Every time I try to install the Desktop Application from the Story website, it says I must install Adobe Air. So I click Install, it shows the progress bar to 100%, then errors out with a window. The window header reads "Adobe AIR Installer" and the main section of the window reads "Couldn't write the application to the hard disk. Please verify the hard disk is available and try again." - There is a Retry and Cancel. Retry does it all again with same results.
No, I had no previous versions of Adobe Air. So I tried installing AIR direct from the Adobe website, and it installs fine. So I go back to the Story webpage and try installing the Desktop Application again and the exact same set of events as described above happens. I uninstalled the AIR install, tried again, same result.
I had Production Premium CS3 previously, and installed Production Premium CS5 UPGRADE. All the programs in the suite work like a charm!
I'm running Windows 7 64 bit with 208 Gig free on my C drive, as well as over 500 gig free spread out over two other drives. 8 Gig memory, and two Nvidia Qadro FX 3500 video cards (If that matters at all). Full admin rights to the PC, not limited in any way.
A quick Google search shows plenty of other people having the same problem,  just no known fixes I've found!
