Installing Vista Straight on to my Macbook through bootcamp

If i get a full copy of Vista Ultimate can i install it like i would XP through bootcamp or do i have to install XP then upgrade?

Even though this is the Tiger, (10.4.x), Forums, I can tell you yes, though if it's the 64 bit version it'll only work on some MBPs and MacPros, not MacBooks.

  • HT1461 I have installed the Windows 8 on my MacBook using BootCamp, but I cannot install drivers for Windows now

I have installed the Windows 8 on my MacBook using BootCamp already, but I cannot install drivers for Windows now: I've got only BootCamp 3 disk and it doesn't goo even if I start it using compatibility options. And my BootCamp on Mac didn't offer me to burn cd with drivers for windows as I saw in many instructions. How can I resolve the problem? Thanks a lot.

Go back to Boot Camp: on the 2nd page you get this:
Download the support software and as Windows is already installed uncheck the 2nd box.

  • "Accidentally" installed Vista onto my new 13' Macbook Pro and am now stuck in WIndows.

I installed Vista on the newest model, and yes, I realize now that it doesn't accept anything other than Win 7. I am now in Vista with the Wifi not working and no visible way to switch back to OSX. How can I get back to the Mac side, and additionally uninstall Vista? The CD i made earlier to complete Boot Camp installation gives the error:
    D:\
The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail.
    Please help.

you didn't read how to use Option key? basic Mac 101 what the startup keys are.
    x = Mac OS X also
Option or Command + r = Lion Recovery
    Option = boot OS selection
In OS X to go Startup Disk control panel (system preferences) and set to OS X
Use BCA to remove, download and burn Windows 8 RP, free for now, and burn that to a DVD (2x slow speed) and just format-install over Vista partition.

  • Is it possible to install Windows 8 on a new MBP through Bootcamp?

My new MBP has no CD slot obviously - anyone able to install from the cloud? USB?

You can install Windows 8 on a new MacBook Pro without any problem. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
On Macs without a SuperDrive, you have two options to install Windows:
    1. Buy Windows on a DVD and an external optical drive, connect it and use it to install Windows.
    2. Purchase Windows from the Microsoft Store or any other shop that offers it as a download, burn the file downloaded into a USB drive with Boot Camp Assistant, and install Windows with the USB drive.
To install Windows 8, you need a full version, so the only possibility is to get it on a DVD and use an external optical drive to install it. If you want all the steps to install Windows 8 through Boot Camp, follow these steps > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf

  • 'Windows cannot install required files' error while installing Vista SP1

I'm installing Vista Client SP1 on my Macbook pro and getting the following error:
Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation.
Almost exactly as described in this KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930984/ except my error code is 0x80070017. I'm double-checked CRC on my dvd to ensure it's not corrupt. Also I've previously successfully installed Vista SP1 from the SAME DVD on a different Mac Leopard (desktop)
Any ideas? This is a new Macbook pro, just got it yesterday. Could be DVD drive issue?
    Thanks!

Did you get far enough to delete the FAT partition BootCamp created, so you could create a new NTFS one?

  • Orange Box on Macbook through Boot Camp?

    Hey everyone.
I've been pretty excited for the Orange Box to come out, but I don't have any other PC or Mac in my house which is more powerful than my Macbook. Sad, I know.
So, I've just been wondering if anyone has tried to install the Orange Box on their Macbooks through Boot Camp and how it has gone. Just to let you know, I've got 2GB RAM instead of the usual 1.
    Thanks.

I too have this problem, I'm trying to play orange box on a Macbook using boot camp but portal and team fortress shuts down windows and Hl2 quits whenever I get to a save point. Has this forum decided that there just isn't a way to play with the Macbook graphics card?
It seems strange that the games would just quit when it saves...
Do you have this same problem?

  • Unable to install Windows 8.1 on Macbook using BootCamp Assistant

Hi, I own a Macbook Pro 13" Mid 2012 model.
I am trying to install Windows 8.1 on my Macbook using BootCamp Assistant, but i always get this error :
"No Bootable device detected, Insert Boot disk and press any key".
I've tried pressing the option key during boot to startup the boot manager and this is what i get :
I notice that the Windows boot disk doesn't show EFI Boot like it is supposed to when installing windows on a Mac.
I know this because I once had successfully installed Win 8.1 using BootCamp before on my MacBook.
However I'm not sure what the problem is this time.

On pre-2013 Macs, EFI installation does not work or partially succeeds, because these models are preUEFI models. The Late 2013+ models will support EFI boot correctly, without any driver issues. Your specific model supports installing from a DVD+USB or USB (I have the same 13" 2012 MBP).
You need to ensure that the USB device used is a USB2  and not a USB3 device. Please verify the integrity of the Windows ISO file (if used) using Microsoft FCIV tool. The same applies to the DVD. Do not connect any other external storage to your MBP. Do not use Alt/Option key to interrupt the BCA-initiated installation.
Using Alt/Option works when installing EFI-based on Windows, but you can directly boot into EFI installer from System Preferences -> Startup Disk -> EFI Boot Media.

  • Installing vista 64 on a MacBook Pro (early 2008)

I hope this will save someone some time.
Leopard is the world’s most advanced operating system.
So advanced, it even lets you run Windows if there’s a PC
application you need to use. Just get a copy of Windows
and start up Boot Camp, now included with Leopard. Setup
is simple and straightforward — just as you’d expect with a
    Mac.
    Marketing hype.
Set up is nowhere as simple as with a DIY intel motherboard, a Dell or HP, Asus ...
If you follow the "instructions" trying to get vista64 up on a macbook pro you'll spend literally hours and end up with a half working system. I have a retail copy of Leopard 10.5, installing the drivers from that resulted in non functional:
    802.11
    Ethernet
    Audio
    No Graphics acceleration
    No iSight
If you are installing vista on a modern computer (a core 2 duo processor and better) then you really want to install vista 64, it runs faster and it addresses more ram. I'm sure the situation for vista32 is better, I was just astounded at the virtual lack of support for 64 bit.
The boot camp fiasco was install vista, install the drivers from the leopard disk and try to install the 2.1 boot camp update. Installing vista from the os x boot camp (ie put the vista media in the drive, run boot camp and in theory Windows installs) resulted in a freeze on restart, a black screen with a frozen underbar cursor.
So I just booted from the vista dvd (64 bit media with sp1) worked like a charm. To do this hold the option key down as the machine is restarting, and choose the vista dvd as the boot disk in the boot picker. That worked nicely. Another point is that boot camp will make a partition for you, but it will be a DOS FAT-32 partition. This makes a certain amount of sense since it allows both Vista and OS X to read and write the windows partition, however vista will probably be happier with an ntfs partition, and in the vista installer you can select this option and reformat the partition.
Vista installed with no hitches (though it will restart a few times, it might be worth setting the default boot volume to the vestigial vista install using the OS X sys prefs after the first restart to avoid needing to stand over the install to hit the option key. Once vista was up I made the next boot camp discovery.
The BC 2.1 update will not run on my install. This seems like a very common thing for the 64 bit version. The web has speculation that you need to install the Mac Pro drivers on the MacBook and mostly the 2.1 64 nit BC update is reported to install. I don't really want to deal with bit torrent, and that seems to fly in the face of Apple's interests so it's odd the drivers are just not on Apples site in seperate install packages for each device.
It's possible I need a newer retail leopard, but even so a "real" hardware company would provide individual driver installers on their site. After futzing around every which way with boot camp trying to get net and other things working, I had a realization.
    Forget boot camp.
It's probably a waste of time.
The four things I care about are net (wired and 802.11, display drivers, audio).
A troll around the net dug up Marvell Yukon drivers for Vista64 (Marvell's site), Broadcom 43xx drivers (in an asus package from a random site), Realtek ALC885 drivers (from realtek's site). Video I've not got to yet, I booted into OS X to look at "about this mac" to see what kind of hardware is in this puppy. And while I was here I thought I'd write this up in case it saves anyone else some pain.
You'll need to do a manual install of the realtek and broadcom drivers, the marvel installer did the right thing. To do that, bring up the start menu (bottom LH corner), find computer on the right hand side of this. Right click that and choose "Manage". Click devices and then navigate to the device for which you want to reinstall the drivers, double click to get the properties dialog, hit the drivers tab and click the reinstall button, manually install the drivers, navigating to the folder you unzipped the driver files to.
I now have networking and sound, display is up next. I deinstalled Apple's software update stuff and boot camp. Vista 64 works quite well once you get the non apple supplied drivers on there.

I installed XP of a disk I had then used a Vista upgrade disk i had to install Vista. I noticed quickly that it was a 32bit version since it only recognized 3gb ram. I have been trolling the forums here and still have yet to get a straight answer on how to install vista 64 and have it actually work. So when what you are saying is I need a Mac Pro disk? Not the disk that came with my Macbook Pro to install all the drivers I need?
    James
So it really depends. If you have an "early 2008" MBP as follows:
    Hardware Overview:
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro4,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.6 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 6 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MBP41.00C1.B00
    SMC Version: 1.27f1
    Serial Number: xxxxxxxxxxx
    Sudden Motion Sensor:
    State: Enabled
Then the disk from an equivalent Mac Pro (needs to be of similar vintage) may help you. But if you have once of the newer models ("late 2008") this has an nVidia chipset in it and the drivers for that may not be on the Mac Pro.
You'll need 64bit drivers for the nVidia chipset for this to work.
A side note is that the EFI implementation on the "Early 2008" MPB might well be 32 bit, so it's debatable if you get the full advantage of 64bit Vista in terms of performance. It worked for me, but YMMV. In any case when Windows 7 ships, my Macs will mostly be in "Legacy" mode.

  • How long does it take to install vista through parallels 7?

I'm trying to install Vista on my son's new macbook pro through parallels 7. It goes through the whole procedure and tells me its completing installation, the disc is twirling at the top and there are dots coming and going to indicate that it is actually doing something, however have been here for 3 hours now - should it take that long?

  • Help!  Can I still install Windows Vista through Bootcamp?

I am currently running Lion 10.7.3 on my MacBook Pro.
When I purchased this laptop 2 years ago, Bootcamp allowed me to create a partition and install Windows Vista.   Then, over time I upgraded to OS X Snow Leopard and then Lion.  Never really paid attention to the bootcamp . . upgrades that came along with the system upgrades until now.
I was having issues with my Windows Vista Partition, so I decided to use Bootcamp to remove the Windows partition (with the thought that I would just re-create it and start fresh).  Easy right?  Wrong.   Now, bootcamp won't allow me to install Vista. Only Windows 7.  I don't want to run out and buy Windows 7 when I have a perfectly good (if you can call Vista good lol) copy of Windows . .    I only need it to run a thermal printer for UPS because it is not compatible with MAC.
IS there any way to get around this and install Vista on the partition instead of windows 7?   If so . . how?
My gosh I am actually wondering if it's cheaper to run out and buy a cheapo Acer computer for $250 . . then to deal with this headache.
    Any suggestions?

Vista is not supported by Lion. There are no drivers.

  • How should I install/setup a single OS of windows 7 to run through bootcamp and parallels 7 on my new macbook pro?

I just bought a new macbook 8g ram and 750g harddrive and want to be able to run windows 7 through bootcamp and parallels. How do I setup that up and install a single version of windows (want to be able to utilize heavy programs - photoshop, 3D modeling CAD etc. - by installing them once and being able to use them through parallels 7 or bootcamp)? Please let me know of anything that may red flag by doing this and clear concise instructions of which to do first/ settings for bootcamp and parallels

BootCamp is directly booting your computer into Windows for full hardware access and performance, just like a PC. It's free from Apple.
    https://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
Virtual machine software (paid) like Parallels and VMFusion both can take the Bootcamped Windows and make a copy for use in OS X in a window at the same time as using OS X, but less performance. It's usualyl easiler to use.
A free virtual machine option is VirtualBox, but it might not have all the bells and whistles of the payware options above, but works just  fine.
We can't provide detailed installation instructions, it's too much, you will have to read Apple's instructions and the manual for your virtual machine software.

Welcome to Apple Discussions. I know you are new here so let me help steer you to a forum where you might get the answers you are looking for. This is a generalized MBP forum, I think you will get more answers by re-posting on a Bootcamp forum which you can locate:

  • While trying to instal Mountain Lion OS on my macbook pro, I got the error message that my HD was damaged and it reverted to my Lion OS. Why does this happen? I bought the OS online through the app store

While trying to instal Mountain Lion OS on my macbook pro, I got the error message that my HD was damaged and it reverted to my Lion OS. Why does this happen? I bought the OS online through the app store.

The Mountain Lion installer looks at your internal drive to make certain that it's error-free before continuing installation. You should have an application named "Install OS X Mountain Lion.app" in your Applications folder now so you shouldn't have to download it again. Do this...
Boot to your Lion recovery partition by holding down both the Command and the R keys while booting. Open Disk Utility from the Recovery partition and select your hard drive (usually named "Macintosh HD" unless you've renamed it) and click on Verify Disk. If you come up with any errors, click on Repair Disk. At the end of the cycle you will get a message that the disk was successfully repaired or a message that the hard drive could not be repaired.
If you're able to repair the disk, just reboot as normal and open the "Install OS X Mountain Lion.app" and the installation will proceed. If Disk Utility was unable to repair the disk, you need to get to your local Apple Store as soon as possible so that they can see if the disk is salvageable or beyond repair.
    Good luck,
    Clinton
