Installing Vista using Parallels from a Toshiba Recovery Disk

I'm trying to use my copy of Vista from an older, now defunct Toshiba laptop. The recovery disks which include the operating system are not properly installing Vista within Parallels. Is there a way to extract the operating system from the recovery disks for use in Parallels?

No, those discs are proprietary to Toshiba hardware and will not work properly.

  • How to install Vista using product key from bottom of Satellite P200?

    Hello all,
I recently had to replace my HDD as my P200 had a fatal error, corrupting all data on the old HDD. I have no recovery discs at all, (None were supplied), and wondered how i am supposed to re-install Vista using my product key from the bottom of the laptop? Can anybody give any kind of assistance please?
As i have been reading other related threads i get the impression that i need to approach Toshiba and buy a recovery CD, at my expense. Is this correct?
    Thanks

    Hi
As far as I know the serial key which is placed at the bottom of the unit would not work with other Vista versions! the key belongs to the OEM Vista version preinstalled by Toshiba.
As mentioned by Jeka, you will need to order an recovery disk or will need to use an clean Vista CD with an own serial key purchased previously.

  • Can't install Vista through Parallel

When I tried to install Vista through parallel I recieved the following error:
"This computer is not compliant with the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) standard. Windows must be installed onto a computer that supports ACPI. Contact your computer manufacturer for a BIOS update or install Windows on an ACPI-compliant computer. "
    I'm a newbie!! Any suggestions

You should ask this question on the Parellels support forum:

Here is a pertinent thread at those forums, albeit a year old:

  • If I use a USB stick for time machine, will I be able to install Windows (using bootcamp) from the same USB?

I have a 64GB USB Stick, and I am interested in usign it with time machine. My question is, firstly, is this possible? And secondly, if I do do this, would it be possible to install windows using bootcamp from the same USB. My mother refuses to let me install windows without a backup of Mac OS X, so I really need to know if this is possible???

You need to use a drive that is larger than your Mac's internal drive for Time Machine, so a USB stick will not work.  You need to buy an external hard drive.  It's worth it. Time machine is a fantastic backup system, keeping not just a single backup, but multiple versions of your files as well (hence the need for a larger drive).

  • Toshiba recovery disks do not work

I purchased the recovery disks for the NB255-N250 from Toshiba after my hdd was replaced under warranty by a retailer. The first disk errors out after 5 minutes with the error "0a 0244 0000". Speaking with tech support today they offered me the option of sending it in at my expense. I have already paid $25 for the disks and now they want another $25 more. This appears to be a very common error on Google but no one has posted what they did to resolve it. The system will accept a straight install of Windows 7 but not the recovery disks. Any suggestions?

    You're very welcome.
Glad you got everything to work.

  • Problems with the Toshiba Recovery Disk Generator program

    Hi,
I have a Satellite Pro U400 laptop running XP SP3 - iyes t's old, but still running with newly added memory and a new battery.
I wanted to make a fresh set of recovery disks so I fired up the Toshiba app. It created the first disk fine. Then it prompted for Disk 2. So I put Disk 2 in.  It contemplated for a bit, it said it would now create disk 2.  Then, it prompts me again for Disk 2. There's no error message or anything. So, I ejected the disk and tried a different one.  Several times.  It just can't get past this to create disks 2 and 3.
I downloaded an "update" I found on the Toshiba site, but it didn't change anything.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Hello
I think you mixed up something...
The hidden Windows partition (Recovery Environment) has nothing to do with the Toshiba recovery disk or HDD recovery procedure. This is a Windows feature that is on all PCs and notebooks available so my suggestion is you read this good Wikipedia article about this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recovery_Environment
The HDD recovery files are stored on the second partition of the HDD in the folder HDDRecovery. So if you use the HDD recovery function only the first partition will be formatted and you can only use this feature if you have access to the advanced boot menu. If you dont have it you must use the Toshiba recovery disk because the disk formats the whole HDD and restore the factory settings of the notebook (the HDD recovery too but only with the first partition).
You can change the partition size of both partitions but there should be enough free space on both partitions. Otherwise the HDD recovery does maybe not work.
About the Vista partition tool I can prefer this useful article:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB7101OB0006R01.htm
I hope you understand it better now and if you have more questions please let us know.

  • Satellite A200-1CR: Can I install Vista using my Vista installations DVD?

    Hi
I would like to have some answers in my questions......
I have satellite A200-1CR (PSAE0) and I want to install vista on my own....not with the recovery DVD but I have some serious questions....
    1) May I have problems during installation....(SATA drivers, etc) ,problems with BIOS or Toshiba has no such restrictions?
    2) Is it problem if I erase the secret partition (winre) and what is its use?
    3) If I do a clean install with my DVD with my vista....if I want in the near future can I use the recovery DVD I have got or not?
    4) In drivers section for my laptop for each part has 5,6,7 either 8 drivers for win vista...which one is the proper or it's all the same?
    5) In general what do you suggest? Are there any reasons why not to do my format??? I have done a lot of formats in desktop but never in laptops.
Sorry if tired you with my questions, and sometimes my bad English....
    Thank you in advance........

    Hi
I think I can answer some questions lets start with
    > 1) Vista DVD has SATA drivers but WXP doesn't. Do you think the possibility not to recognize the HDD is high? I can't understand where you mean to install the HDD drivers.....
As Gipsyman already posted you need the Intel Matrix Storage Manger. If you use the XP then this driver must be installed from the external USB floppy disk drive. You have to put the sata driver on the diskette and should include the SATA driver while the
Windows XP setup is running. I think you have to press F6 to include the driver.
But if you dont have a external USB floppy drive then you could create an own XP CD with the SATA driver. To create a new XP CD you need the freeware tool called nLite (google for details).
If you want to install Vista then you could include the SATA driver from the USB stick.
By the way; this forum provides more as enough details about Intel Matrix Storage Manger and nLite. Use the search option!!!

  • Satellite P500 - Restart loop after using Toshiba recovery disk

    Hi,
I have got a problem recovering SATELLITE P500. I had made the recovery disks. It boots ok from the recovery disk and formats the hard drive and copies the disks to the hard drive. It then starts windows setup and reboots.
Then it goes to a loop
    1) Start up and says "Setup is preparing your computer for first use"
    2) Toshiba banner saying please wait... Finnishing installation may take several minutes. Pleae do not interupt or shutdown the computer!
    3) Windows logo
    4) Shutting down...
    5) restarts and goes to 1)
It would be great if some one could help me with this.
    Many thanks,
    Softari

    Hello
I have noticed the same on my Satellite P500 but I must say its not an issue, its absolutely normal. The notebook will restart several times (10 times or more) to finish the installation.
You must know that a lot of drivers/tools will be installed and certain restart must be done to configure everything properly.
So dont interrupt the recovery installation, just wait a little bit longer and drink a coffee. Everything happens automatically and your notebook will be reinstalled with factory settings. :)

  • Installing AutoDesk using Parallels on OSX/MBP/2Gb/2.16CoreDuo

Am I plum out of luck here? I am trying to install AutoCad Architecture 2007 and just stuck on Disk 2, it just does not seem to install. I am such a Mac Person that I am not sure what else I should be doing. I did try to click on the disk image from my computer and tried installing that way, but it just sits there, not doing a thing....for some reason the Windows Media Player starts up.... Please Help! I have a project due for my class, which is ending and my lab is not available so I was hoping I could finish it on my computer, but unable to install....so what do I do? Any suggestions (apart from jump off the window or use friend's PC or some such suggestion...)

Suppose these are the specifications for it...
    http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=8951062
...then it'd hardly work generally. If I remeber well Parallels don't go with high-end graphics cards (but I might be mistaken, haven't looked it up for some time).
If you're in haste, there is an AutoCAD free 30-day trial. It's specifications are here: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=8446045
PS: I'm not the installers' fan-only I've installed it many times on Mac and PC, it rarely fails on it's own...

  • Create new partition VS. Use Toshiba recovery disk

    Hi
I've bought a new Toshiba Satellite S50-A-00G. I want to create a new partition (D for my personal documents.
Could I create a new partition (with Windows 8 built-in utilities) and use Toshiba restore disk for reformat ONLY the system partition (C?
    Thanks

Hi skid! I'm not sure what your'e wanting to do. I can tell you what I do. I also have a 1TB external drive. I have a program called Macrium Reflect. It is a great program and there is a free version. Once a month I create a image of my drive. It will create a image of all three of my partitions. If I have some major problems. I restore that image and I'm back just like the day I created the image. I never use the Toshiba recovery media, because I don't want to start over from day one.
I'm sure you will get better replies during the week.

  • Using Toshiba recovery disks my L505d ES5025 fails the Windows 7 setup

    Hello,
My L505 progressively got slower and started having errors.  Then Windows wouldn't load regularly, only in safe mode.  Then Safe mode would load.  I then purchased the recovery disks for my model and started the recovery process.  Everything was going smoothly.  All three disk were installed, and Windows was doing its things setting up for the first time use.  After the fourth or fifth time Windows restarted it froze.
I turned it off with the power switch. Turned it back on and asked if I wanted to start in safe mode or regular.  I choose regular.  It started and went to the log on screen. The Administrator account was the only one to choose from.  I clicked it and it said that account had been deactivated.
I turned it off and back on and went with safe mode. Worked fine.  Added another account all looked good. Turned it off turned it back on, went to log on screen choose the new account, then it went to blank desktop and froze.
I have tried the recovery 3 times. Once using the wipe HDD method thinking something might be causing a problem. Nothing worked. Is this a hardware or software problem?  What should my next steps be?
    Thanks You,
    John

It sounds like the recovery process isn't completing successfully, which makes me think it's a hardware problem. The HDD is the most likely to fail, but it's hard to know for sure. If you have another HDD that you could try, I'd try that next.

  • Can't reformat using Toshiba recovery disk

    Hi,
I'm not sure my question was posted by others or not. Please let me know if someone had posted this.
    Here's my problem.
I had put the recovery CD into the CD-ROM. Then I restart my laptop and press F12 and choose boot from CD-ROM. Then I come to a black screen where there written "Windows 98 ..."
After wait for awhile, fail message appear.
My laptop was with Windows XP and I do not know why the word "Windows 98" appear. After failed, I try go in window and double click the CD-ROM setup and it said could not read one of the file in CD. The CD is used to reformat the laptop before.
    Is it the CD corrupted?

    Hey mate,
First of all it would be interesting to know what notebook you have. Maybe it was delivered with Windows 98 recovery disk I dont know.
Theoretically it could be a problem of the CD. Just try another disk and see what happens.

  • How long does it take to install vista through parallels 7?

I'm trying to install Vista on my son's new macbook pro through parallels 7. It goes through the whole procedure and tells me its completing installation, the disc is twirling at the top and there are dots coming and going to indicate that it is actually doing something, however have been here for 3 hours now - should it take that long?
    Thanks in anticipation

Parallels has nothing to do with Boot Camp. You posted in the Boot Camp forum.
You will likely get a faster response by posting your question in the Parallels forums here. http://forum.parallels.com/

  • Re: Satellite U400-11Q with Vista has new HDD but no recovery disk

    Hi,
Before I start a very important message: I usually don't work with pc...:-) At my work we have an IT-department for our PC's :-))
However, now I have to work privately with a PC/ notebook and I need help: I am sitting in front of a Toshiba Satellite U400-11Q with a completely newly formatted HDD and unfortunately with NO recovery CD or DVD whatsoever !!
So far I have managed to format the HDD aagain and to put a WindowsVista Home Basic (OEM Software) from my old pc onto this notebook. However, nothing works yet ( I want to get into the Internet etc.)
Therefore I now need to put on all relevant drivers as well as the original TOSHIBA drivers, right ?
How do I do this ? Which drivers to I need ? Do I need to download all relevant drivers (totally 113) one by one from the Toshiba website ?
ANY help is appreciated as I can see myself spending the whole night in front of this PC..
    Thanks,
    M

    Hi Dr.Lamp,
thanks for helping me with listing the drivers as well as giving me a recommendation on the use of Windows 7.
Re Windows 7, unfortunately I only have a "free" VISTA Home Basic at home and therefore I have used this operating system for tonight ! I want to get this PC/ machine running as well as possible as quickly as possible...just unfortunate that its a PC with the need of "thousands of drivers"...
If anyone in cyberspace is interested in reading about my HUGE problems with simply setting up a computer newly, I can at this point simply recommend to you PC fanatics:
Please do put onto the internet decent driver packages to download for somebody like me in a bulk !!! why make life so difficult ? How the hell will I get the right order of driver packages ( which you are listing) on to this PC if I have:
    - no idea where to find the drivers you mention ( I have to google every single one of them)
    - I have already bought a "recovery DVD from Toshiba, but which takes up to 14 days to arrive and costs about 36 EUR
    - I just want to get the computer up and running properly with all licenses legally acquired !
So here I am after about 12 hours of woring on this thing as a newbe:
I have so far this evening managed to firstly install a network driver ( I also had an old VISTA resource DVD at hand) after somehow installing some "recommended network drivers" ( by this recovery DD).
This way I managed to get the wireless LAN connection up and running which is a huge success, because I can now download drivers form INTERNET directly onto the computer.
Currently there is an installation running of Windows VISTA including about 120 updates for this VISTA, so I am busy on these updates...I am nowhere close to the 50% installed mark so I probably will have to get some sleep now and continue tomorrow with you list as well as finding your drivers and installing them in the right order ! What a drag ?! Well, somehow these PC's just cost you TONS of TIME..
Anyway thanks for you help and if you can give me a hint on a shortcut, I would be very happy to hear about it.
    Thanks
    J(M)
