Installing VMware Tools on the ACS 5.2 VM Appliance

A cursory glance doesn't reveal any instructions on how to do this, does anyone know of documentation out there on how to insall VMware tools on the VM?

Unfortunately wmware tools cannot be install on ACS 5.x. Developers are already aware of the situation and there is an enhancement feature request.

Symptom:
VMWare Tools support is not present on ACS 5.
Conditions:
This affects ACS 5.
Workaround:
None.
No ETA for the enhancement. The next ACS version will be ready in summer this year, please look for it around that time.

    yes the vmware HA works for us and is enough if you can live with risk of data corruption. (which we never experienced up to now...)
    In our case it's good enough to recover from the backup instead of adding more complexity.

  • How to install vmware tools in cucm on Vmware Player

    I'm running CUCM 8.0.1 and Unity Connection 8.0.1 on VMWare Player.  I need to install the VMWare Tools.  I'm using the COP file from the CCO (ciscocm.vmtoolsUpgrade4.1-8.3.2-257589-v14.cop.sgn).  However, it's not loading. I Clicked Install VMWare Tools from Player so the CDRom is mounted and has the COP file in it, but I can't seem to get the path.  The connection is use physical device /dev/cdrom and I have a burned COP file in the dvd drive.  I keep getting "The directory could not be located."
    I have NTP enabled and "the NTP Service is accessible"
    I tried the Remote File System but keep getting the error: "An unknown error occurred while accessing the upgrade file."  I tried different files, e.g. locale file, but get the same error.  Is there something else I need to do on the VM?  The Host machine is Ubuntu 12.04 32 bit.
    Is there a document on this?  VMWare Player is ver 6.0.  The VMs were built in VMWare server 2.0 a while back.

    Thanks for the link.  It is for vSphere and I'm using Player so Step 2 is a little different.  I choose Virtual Machine>Upgrade VMWare Tools.  The settings are set to "use ISO file" and the path is to the linux.iso file.
    When I run the 'utils vmtools upgrade' command, it says: "Executed command unsuccessfully, no valid command entered"
    Any other procedures to try?

    How do i install vmware tools? I am new to linux. Reading through various other posts, when i try to install headers i get an error message no package available.

    You are using the Oracle UEK kernel. Try yum install kernel-uek-devel kernel-uek-headers. For this of course you will need to have ULN access or public yum configured according to http://public-yum.oracle.com

  • Is it ok to install VMware Tools onto vWLC appliances?

    I have two vWLC appliances which I've noticed don't have vmware tools installed by default.  Is there a reason for this or am I ok to install it?  I'd also like to keep all my VM's on vmx9 but am not sure how this will affect the appliance.
    Is there any guidance on this anywhere from Cisco?          

    From Cisco's perspective our vWLC is just like any other VM running on hypervisor. So installing VMWare tools is no issue. You can install.
    There is no guidance from cisco on install vmware tools and you should check with VMWare support.

  • VMWare tools install for MeetingPlace 8.0.1 App Server

                       So, this may seem like a non-trivial task. Install VMWare tools in a Virtual environment? Couldn't be easier, unfortunately I have run into issues with installing VMWare tools in the MeetingPlace Application Server. This server runs RHEL 4 but when installed it is setup under Windows Server 2003. So, once powered on the server runs RHEL 4 but VM sees it as a Windows 2003 server and does not contain that tar.gz file in the VMWare Tools install folder.
    This is starting to give me a headache as it should be a simple task but I cannot figure it out. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Running vCenter 4.1.
    Cisco Unified MeetingPlace 8.0.1 Application Server.
    -Runs with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.
    -Virtual Client setup as Windows Server 2003, the only way that the OS would install.
    - When VMWare Tools datastore is mounted the only files available are for Windows, not Linux.
    Any ideas?

    The install guide that I followed on the Cisco Support page (here) instructed me to do it that way, also that is the only way that I could get the OS to mount in the VM. As for the normal way of doing things, I am unsure, I've only been working with MeetingPlace for about a week and have installed it twice now with this being the only method that worked for me.
    I tried navigating through the datastore but couldn't ever find the vmimages folder, may not have gone high enough. I then tried changing the Guest OS and was able to get it back up and running. Once it was running you were spot on, there it is.

  • Vmware tools for fc10 fail to compile some modules

    I'm running esxi 3.5 u3 - when I try to install vmware tools on fedora core 10 (linux kernel 2.6.27.5).
    vmmemctl breaks:
    os.c: 590  erro struct proc_dir_entry has no member named get_info
    vmghfs breaks:
    bdhandler.c:29:27:  erro: asm/semaphore.h : no such file or directory
    I have checked in the kernel include files, and effectively these errors are correct. When I lookad at earlier 2.6 kernels, for example 2.6.18, proc_dir_entry did have a memeber named get_info, but no longer.
    Is there anything I can do? (although this is not that critical) .
    Otherwise, vmware-tools compile ok.

    Priot to the current version of VMWare Tools I used to try and compile them and ran into issues.
    Now I find that they are much better supported (on Ubuntu at least) and so in the VM I click on Install VMware Tools from the menu, mount the "CD" in a virtual CD Rom and install them the normal way ...
    I would hope that something like this would work for FC - this is what I do in Ubuntu:
    sudo apt-get install linux-headers-server build-essential
    sudo mount /dev/scd0/media/cdrom0
    or
    mount /cdrom
    VM > Install VMWare Tools
    cp /cdrom/VmwareTools-x.x.x-xxxxx.tar.gz ~
    cd ~
    tar -zxf VmwareTools-x.x.x-xxxxx.tar.gz
    cd vmware-tools-distrib

    I am not a FC user so I don't know how much this will help ...

  • Open-vm-tools/official vmware tools not installing.

    I'm trying to install the latest offical vmware tools (16/9/2013) and open-vm-tools but both seem to always fail. I tried some of the patches listed on the wiki, but nothing got me anywhere. The big thing I'm trying to accomplish is to be able to use vmhgfs but, I'd like to have all the tools if possible. Here is what I did.

    Any idea what I should be doing?

    I have the same problem on ESXI 5.5 for over a month now, tried the patches, tried the LTS kernel which others say results in an immediate result without patches, nothing seems to work and nobody seems to be able to offer a solution.

  • VMWare Tools Fails to Install - Guest OS Windows 8.1 - vSphere 6.0

    Hi,
    I am having issues installing VMWare tools on a Windows 8.1 guest. I recently upgraded from ESXi 5.5 to 6 and used the automated upgrade. I logged on to one of my Windows 8.1 VMs and noticed that a glibc error was popping up related to VM Tools so I uninstalled and attempted a reinstall. VMWare tools now does not install.. I believe this is the relevant section of the logs before it rolls back:

    Can anyone shed some light on this? I think it has something to do with cscript.exe, when I attempt to run it from a command prompt I get an error that the program or feature cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64-bit version of windows. cscript located in syswow64 works, is there any way I can force it to use that?

    Has anyone successfully installed vmware-tools on arch? im curious if just symlinking /etc/rc.{multi,single} to /etc/rc.0-6 is sufficient to get passed that question in the script?

    It sets up those folders and other stuff for vmware workstation 5.5 and may help you.
    If Archlinux is running as a vmware guest system, did you install X ?

    You shouldn't need the kernel sources, just point vmware tools to the right location :
    What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running
    kernel? [/lib/modules/2.6.22-ck/build/include]
    Replace with usr/src/linux-2.6.22-ck/include/
    If you still get this error /tmp/vmware-config0/vmxnet-only/vmxnet.c:1058: error: too many arguments to function 'vmxnet_interrupt'
    see vmware tools 5.5.3, linux 2.6.19, vmxnet compile fix
    as mentioned at the bottom of the wiki page.

  • How To: Upgrade the VMware Tools in vCMA

    I am by no means a linux expert but this method worked for me.  I now have the latest version of VMware Tools from vSphere running in vCMA.
    0. Snapshot the vCMA machine so you can undo if there are any problems!
    1. Firstly download the latest linux.iso from your esx box to your desktop. Use WinSCP or other similar tool to download this from /vmimages/tools-isoimages
    2. Extract the tar.gz file using an archive manager such as 7zip. The vSphere version is called VMwareTools-4.0.0-164009.tar.gz so this is what I will refer to from here on.
    3. Upload VMwareTools-4.0.0-164009.tar.gz to the vCMA servers /tmp directory using WinSCP or downloading it from a webserver using wget http://server/VMwareTools-4.0.0-164009.tar.gz
    4. On the vCMA server console install the The World-Wide Web library for Perl. yum install perl-libwww-perl
    5. Extract the contents of the VMwareTools-4.0.0-164009.tar.gz file in the /tmp directory. tar zxf /tmp/VMwareTools-4.0.0-164009.tar.gz
    6. Uninstall the previous version of VMware Tools using the uninstaller from the latest version. The uninstall script wasn't left from the initial install. /tmp/vmware-tools-distrib/bin/vmware-uninstall-tools.pl
    7. Install the latest version accepting the defaults. /tmp/vmware-tools-distrib/vmware-install.pl
    8. Reboot the vCMA server. shutdown -r now
    9. If everything works correctly remove the snapshot.
    That should be all there is to it.

    You could also replace steps 1 - 3 with the following alternates:
    1. Shutdown the VCMA  guest and add a "client" CD ROM to the VCMA appliance and power-on;
    2a. Create a directory for mount point, "mkdir /mnt/cdrom"
    2b. Select "VM->Guest->Install/Upgrade VMware Tools" from the console menu;
    2c. Mount the VMware Tools CD, "mount -t iso9660 /dev/hda /mnt/cdrom"
    3. Copy the VMwareTools to the /tmp directory, "cp /mnt/cdrom/VMwareTools-4*.gz /tmp"
    Then proceed from your steps. Next Tools update you will only need to do steps 2b, 2c, 3, 5 and 7-9.

    I was looking for a solution to problems we have been having with Office 2003 and Sharepoint 2010 and I was able to fix it by installing Sharepoint Designer 2010. However I didn't want to install the entire Sharepoint Designer software on the clients PC
    so I just installed Office Tools from the installer but I can't figure out what it's changing for this to work.
    Can you give me an idea as to what exactly being installed in the Office Tools component of Sharepoint Designer?

    According to you description,my understanding is you want to know how it fixed your problem by installing Office Tools.If yes,please refer the below description.
    All Microsoft Office components from MS Office 2007 and newer contains a component (OWSSUPP.DLL) that implements full integration with SharePoint. Full integration is often noticed by the user in that it enables checking documents in and out from the application
    (as opposed to manually checking out and downloading the document, open the application manually and work with the file, manually uploading the file to the right SharePoint site and checking it in again).
    So when you install Office Tools in the Client machine,the above dll will get installed an enabled in the browser and user will get option to open the document/excel file from the SharePoint site using the local Office Product which was installed in the
    client machine.That dll integrates the SharePoint application with Office Product.

  • Vmware tools installed but not working.

    I installed vmware 9.0.2 from pacman and also installed vmware-tools but when I fire up windows xp (for brittanica encyclopedia) in vmware it asks me to download & install vmware tools,
    1. When i've already installed it with pacman ( it contained tools for freebsd, linux, windows etc. ), why is vmware wants to install it again ?
    2. When vmware asks to download & install vmware-tools, it downloads but gives error that "A software conponent failed to installed..." basically it fails to install.
    3. How to get vmware-tools working ?

    Make sure you are in bridged mode, not host only.
