Installing WAS ABAP 6.40 on HPUX/Oracle with SR1

Anyone has installed WebAS ABAP 6.40 on HPUX Oracle with the latest SR1 package released in Dec/04? Would really appreciate if you could let me know whether you have encountered any glitches during your installation process.

It installed fine for me - SR1 was a godsend after the problems I had with an earlier release.
All I can really suggest is read the notes - all of them - and make sure you are using the latest installation guides.
You will fail if you haven't applied the HP-UX OS patches.

Why do need to install a Central Instance while installing WAS ABAP+Java :|

Hello all,
I've installed SAP WAS ABAP+Java 6.0 today.
In case of WAS ABAP+Java, there is one database but ABAP and Java have seperate schemas inside it.
Comparing the installation process with Installation of WAS Java (Java Stack/Engine only), wherein after installing few pre-reqisites like JDK, SQL Server (in my case) and then portal....I believe it created a schema for Java.
But in WAS ABAP+Java, what is the need to install a Central Instance first and then a database instance?

UPDATE... Gone onto the mac store today and now in the purchase tab Lion has been removed so looks like I have not even purchased it... I did a search for it in the store and instead of saying "Installed" - its giving me the selling price... Just like it does when you first purchase the software!!

Hi Bob,
Which is the version you are installing 04 or 04S?
In both cases, you can goto
http://service.sap.com/instguides -> Netweaver -> 04 and
04S -> Installation -> Hardware Requirements
For 04 you may need to see the planning guides and not the
installation guides.
For 04s abap+java min 5GB disk space and 1GB RAM is recommended.

I suggest getting a Basis consultant on site, someone, who knows HACMP, can have a look at your current configuration (quorum, clusters filesystem et al) and can give suggestions, what´s the best and safest way to setup an additional system and if you need downtime according to your configuration or not.

Installation WAS ABAP UC + WAS J2EE Add In..and XI

Hello everybody,
Could anyone help me with this issue ??
I am going to install WAS ABAP and WAS J2EE Add in and after that do the XI installation.
I am reading the installation guides and I have some doubts about "Hardware and SOft Requirements Section".
I am going to do a Central System Installation (WAS ABAP + WAS JAVA Add in)
I have read the two installation guides: WAS ABAP and WAS J2EE.
Somewhere I read that I have to add requeriments. For example, if I am going to install CI and DB on the same server, then I have to add RAM for CI and RAM for DB.
The question is:
In the installation guide for WAS ABAP, Database Requeriment Disk is 14 GB (Unicode)
And in the installation guide for WAS JAVA, Database Req. Disk is 14 Gb (Unicode)
Have I to add 14 + 14 ?? Or 14 Gb is OK for the database with the two schemas ??
Same is for Paging File ?? I am 64 bit server.

We have a ABAP/J2EE 6.20 system running with only 8GB ram total on the system and we do get some swapping but for a development I would say we see great performance.

I tried to decrease the parallel processes from 3 to 1 and I increased the variable shared_pool_size in the file init.ora from 67MB (proposed by the installer) to 350MB, but I get the same error.

Now the import has finished.
After rebooting the database couldn't really start (although the services were up!).

Error in WAS ABAP+JAVA installation

I have a notebook with WAS 6.40 ABAP stack running fine. Now I'm trying to install WAS Java stack (NW04 Sneak Preview SP11) in the same machine, but I always get this error in the 6th step of the installation process:

I've tried several times. I've tried to start and stop the WAS ABAP and all SAP windows services and I always get an error. Before any installation I uninstall previous incomplete installation and I remove all registry entries.
During the SAPinst previous parameters pages, sapinst ask for "reinstall or reuse the SAP MaxDB Web Manager" (or similar). I've tried both options without success. Which is the correct option?
I need to install EP NW04 in the same machine that WASP WAS ABAP to configure the SLD and run a webdynpro application at the portal.
Can anybody help me?

Agustin I think you probably have the same problem as I had which can be resolved by dropping the J2E database read my install log:
A major problem was that I kept on getting installation error where the message gave no indication on what is actually wrong. This was probably caused by the uninstall failure of another Netweaver installation.
To completely remove the installation manually I had to find and stop all the related services in order to delete the files, then I had to clean up the registry.
A another major problem was that the system still believed that there was a J2E database on the system although all its files were deleted. In order to remove (drop) the database I first had to install MaxDB in order to remove the database with the following statement dbmcli -d J2E -u control,control db_drop. Use statement dbmcli db_enum to view the databases on your system (go to the folder, probably c:\sapdb, were the SAPDB is installed before executing the command in a dos box).

- go to the install dir (/tmp/sapinst_instdir/NW04S/SYSTEM/ORA/CENTRAL/AS/install)
- unpack the J2EEINSTALL.SAR via
/sapmnt/FND/exe/SAPCAR -xvf /sapcd/java/J2EE_OSINDEP/J2EE-INST/J2EEINSTALL.SAR
then retry. It works!

Uninstall for WAS ABAP 6.40 - Lost R/3 4.6C

I have a problem; on the same server I had one SAP R/3 4.6C system instance and an WAS ABAP 6.40.
I uninstalled yesterday the WAS 6.40 and now the 4.6C doesn't work anymore, I dont have any SAPOSCOL and SPASID_00 services, so I cant use it anymore.
Are there any possibilities to recover my ABAP source codes directly from the Oracle Database?
I dont know exactly in which tables I can find the Development Classes or the contents of ABAP reports.
Could someone help me please?

The problem is with the starting of the SCS instance by sapinst, on AIX the port that we used (SAP default) 3901 during the input step for SCS was in usage at AIX by some application
nimsh 3901/tcp # NIM Service Handler
nimsh 3901/udp # NIM Service Handler
I had to free up the port for some time, stop processes running on the port and then continued with my installation. After the installation was complete, I changed the port number of SCS to 3601 and gave the port back to AIX application.
Beaware that you have to change the port number is various places, including Config tool, all the JSPM, Configtool properties
Check if this helps to resolve your problem, else I will have to recollect if I resolved it differently.

Unable to install Full ABAP Edition-Trial

I am unable to install Full ABAP Edition-Trial.
When it comes to more than 80% (status message shows : initializing database connection), after sometime it starts uninstalling.

It was the firwewall. I shut them down and it worked.

If you have still problems with uninstalling SAP here is the way I did it:
1. Delete folders SAP and sapdb. If you can not delete them, restart
 your windows in save mode. Then it is possible to delete them (I
 know it is not a sensitive method J ).
2. After that runt the RegCleanTool with prompt (sapstartsrv.exe u --
 this is the way you have to do it)
3. Then you can have a new try for installing SAP

Not able to access remotely to sap was abap sneak preview (trial version)

hi all
i have recently installed sap netweaver 2004s was abap sneak preview which is downloaded from sdn.sap.com. but the problem is i am able to access layout tab from server machine only, not from any other client machine. the layout tab shows that "page can't be displayed" mode of internet explorer. i am using explorer 6.0.
are there any security settings needed in either of the machines?

i have one doubt. r u accessing from client machune , or that trial version is installed on ur system it self.
if ur accessinf from client machine .. u need to do some settings in ur client machine so that it should not hit ur local browser .. where as it has to hit ur servers browser. in my problem.. my client machines are hitting my their own systems browsers . . plz let me know what that setting is

Additional instalation for ABAP Webdynpro

Dear Collegues, I'm on the way to decide which technology should I choose for company developing web application. I was wondering about PDK for .NET as the company has invested a lot in .NET technology so far. But I realized that it is possible to use Web Dynpro ABAP, as far as I know I have ECC 6.0 version of SAP on WAS 7.0 just installed, but as far as I know I can access Webdynpro for ABAP on SE80 level, but when I go there I do not see any possiblity to create Webdynpro components. Could you please guide me what should be additionally installed within ABAP Workbench enviroment. I know that for Webdynpro for Java I need Webdynpro Developer Studio (I was programing some time ago in it) but what about Webdynpro ABAP? Do I need any additional isntallation? Do I need any additional licence? Or maybe some components should be attached in installation of SAP Netweaver 2004s?

WAS ABAP+J2EE - Portal - client copy

I have installed a WAS ABAP and now doing the J2EE add-In.
Do i have to make a different client. The sapinst asks for a rfc connection to a client , the default is 000. Which can be ok for using the abap programs but afterwards I need to install the portal. Does this portal needs a client ?
