Installing Webcenter Contetnt on linux

Hi,
I am new to linux and wants to install webcenter content. My linux version is 2.6.18.-194.el5, its a 64bit OS. I am not able to run the installer file since the user is 'root'. Even the installation documentation doesn't give me step on how to install with user other than 'root' or don't know if its possible using the 'root' user itself.
Can anyone put some light on this.

I would suggest that you have your linux admin review these prereqs if you're not comfortable with linux packages or OS configurations.

The documentation talks about how to best go about these tasks.
If you're manually downloading or building packages, I'd suggest against that. You should be using Oracle repos. You never mentioned the flavor of linux you're using. You should use whichever is the preferred utility for your flavor of linux (yum, apt-get, etc).
for changing the limits.conf file, if you're not comfortable or aware of the sudo or root privs, I would also suggest you not alter anything yourself. The syntax of these files is important (some more than others), so if they're messed up, you could cause yourself to really mess up the OS. Trust me, you don't want to see a linux system with a messed up sudoers file.
your install user (i.e., 'oracle') should not be in the root group.

Configure Webcenter Imaging domain in installed Webcenter JSK.

Dear all,
I am new to Webcenter. I am preparing an automated processing solution using webcenter (imaging & capture) and EBS. We have installed Webcenter Jumpstart Kit and we need to configure webcenter imaging domain. How do we perform this action. do we need to install imaging seperately or my set of software download's approach is wrong ?
appreciate your guidance or any pointer towards step by step process configuring the same would of great help.

I tried the following steps :
1. Created a directory in Linux , under a certain mount point - eg : /u90/ipm/input
2. Gave it read/write access , got the UNC path as \\<hostname>\\ipminput
3. I could access it from the Windows workstation where OFR is installed.
4. Before, setting the new directory as the input folder for IPM, I wanted to test if OFR can export it directly to this new folder created.
5. Next, I created map to this network drive in the Windows workstation, like Z:\
6. When I enter this path as the export folder for OFR, it fails to export and gives "Invalid export directory".
My question, can we use a mapped network drive as an export directory for OFR?

Hi everyone:
Im trying to install Webcenter Interaction 10g on solaris SPARC 32 bits but looking for the installation package in OTN http://edelivery.oracle.com/EPD/Search/get_form?results=1 It seems not supported for this plataform ... i'm right ??
Only a version for aqualogic Interaction but I think that's not works for my development.
I try to install a linux version and everything seems to went fine but when I try to run the config manager the shell programing detects the plataform with the command uname -s then the process "thinks" that it is on SunOS with 64 bits of course, and it can't go on.
I appreciate any help from you.

On Sun Sparc processor, WCI requires 64-bit OS (32-bit is not supported for Sparc):

Without RAC, you can only have one instance manage the database. One instance = one set of processes communicating via IPC.
Unless you know of a way to have processes use memory-based IPC across nodes, you need to pick a node and install & run the database software on that node.

Try locate (using find command for example) the libjvm.so file (I assume that is located somewhere under $ORACLE_HOME (probably jdk or jre directory)). If you locate the path where this library resides, try to add that path to $LD_LIBRARY_PATH enviroment variable.
Use copy&paste method (for error message) rather than link to image.
It is much quicker operation and it may help to other people because they be able to find this thread via search engine.

Error while installing OWB on Redhat Linux

I installed Oracle database on Linux , while installing oracle i got error
error while writing to directory /tmp/OraInstall<date> please ensure that this directory is writable and has atleast 60mb of disk space. Installation can not continue
then i did some thing and it went thru, now i am trying to install the OWB again i am getting the same error and i was browsing net past 2 days for a solution but i din't get one
while installing oracle i have not made any notes, that was my mistake
Please suggest me the possible solution or the Document which can guide me

Hi,
the problem is the logfile for the installation. Every oracle installtion writes a log file with this name in a predefined directory. Make the directory /tmp writable for oracle and extend the disk quota at least 60 MB.

Oui-10207error while installing oracle 10g on linux in vmware

Hi,
I have installed vmware on windows 7(64 bit) on which i have installed Oracle Enterprise linux 5. I have set all the variables correctly. but when i try to install oracle 10g on linux, i get the error
OUI-10207:there is not enough disk space in the OUI swap area /tmp/OraInstall2011-10-17_03-44-48PM.Please make atleast 529KB of space avaivale and retry.
but i have around 95bg of space. My partitions are as follows

Not able to Install Webcenter site 11g R1 (11.1.1.6.0) in my local PC

1. I downloaded hsqldb 2.2.8 and set up the database, the connection properties are
     TYPE      :     HSQL Database Engine In-Memory
     Driver     :     org.hsqldb.jdbc.JDBCDriver
     URL     :     jdbc:hsqldb:mem:.
     USER     :     SA
     Password:
2. I started the database server and created a sample table 'emp'.
3. Downloaded tomcat 6.0.35 and in context.xml i did the below entry to make the hsqldb connection, and copies hsqldb.jar into lib folder of Tomcat

I don't have mac o/s so am using Windows XP. I tried to open "Download the scripts and instructions here" from your blog but
it is opening a new window in the browser with some gybrish characters.
Here is what i did, as i explained it in my earlier post, now also i am facing the
same issue while setting up the server in GUI mode but in the log file it is showing
different exception now compare to the earlier one. I will explain the step by step approach of mine
1. start the Hsqldb2.2.8 in webserver mode (will the latest version cause any issue here?)
2. started the tomcat 6.0.35
3. As explained it in oracle site document for "installing webcenter sites in Tomcat" i did
the below changes
1. i downloaded the installation zip file and extracted it in my local m/c. Note:
this is not my installation folder.
2. then i went to cs-cache.xml,linked-cache.xml, ss-cache.xml and cas-cache.xml and
maintain the unique entries for multicastGroupAddress, multicasegroupport and timeToLive.
[I did the modification in the extracted folder thinking that it will get copied while
doing the installation, and my assumption is correct in the tomcat while deploying later i
saw all my entries in corresponding files ]
3. In jbossTicketCacheReplicationConfig.xml i modified mcast_addr="239.255.0.0" and
mcast_port as 4447
4. Then i started installing the content server, i gave the host name and port "localhost"
and "8080" wherever it is asking.
5. i clickec express installation instead of Custom settings
6. After installing it fro 73% again i got the same issue
7. When i was going through all the issues logs i found below issues.
a) it was not able to identify cache bean reference inside ticketRegistry.xml so i
commented out JBossCacheTicketRegistry and started using DefaultTicketRegistry in ticketRegistry.xml

Again i restarted the Tomcat server.....

The first thing you should do if you get ANY (almost) error when
installing Oracle Server in RedHat Linux v6,0 is to read this

After hours of struggle it finally worked for me :-)))))
Only two things to add here:
1) If you want to be able to connect to the Linux server
(telnet) and running utilities like sqlplus locally on the
server, you should copy the ".profile" file to the users home
directory, add the user to the group "dba" AND make sure that
the $ORACLE_HOME directory has execute permissions for members
of the "dba" group (mine had default ONLY permission for the
owner to execute).
2) The file "listener.ora" was (for some reason) written
with "oracle_sid" where it really should say the real SID name
that is in my case "ORCL".
I just can't thank the guy who wrote the step-by-step

I suggest you use Oracle Enterprise Linux on your lab. There are a lot of step-by-step guide to install RAC on OEL. A good example is by Tim Hall, search Google for "Tim Hall Oracle Database RAC Installation".

Dual booting pre-installed Windows 8 and Linux?

I just bought a G780 with Windows 8 pre-installed. Ideally, I would also like to install some flavor of Linux. I've been searching but not finding much info on how difficult or time-consuming this would be, or if there are any special considerations or anything. I've found some guides on dual-booting Windows 8 and Linux but they were all for installing Windows straight from a disk, not anything where it's already pre-installed, and some indicated they thought it might be problematic to use a pre-installed version of Windows. Anyway I was hoping that if anybody has done this on the G780 or even a similar laptop that you could share how it went and any difficulties you encountered. I'm open to using any Linux distro if it'll be easy to install. I would appreciate any info you could share. Thanks.

I had issues with Windows 8 as pre-installed on my G580, my employer at the time was using Windows 7 only and would not allow upgrades for security purposes. I deleted the entire drive (including hidden) knowing at some point I would re-install Windows 8 or later from retail disk when needed.
Linux can resize partitions during the install process, but be careful not to disturb the hidden partition or the windows boot loader in the process. Linux Mint is the best yet for this purpose, OpenSUSE and Fedora failed, CentOS failed and Ubuntu was not able to boot, but did not "hurt" the windows partitions.
