Installing Widows XP SP.1

Hi,
I want to install Windows XP SP 1 on to my Mac OS X 10.6.8.
Is this possible or do i have tu use SP2 what was reccomanded by the mergent?

XP SP2 or better yet SP3 is the minimum for XP and BootCamp.
XP with SP1 or lower often results in a deletion of your OSX volume !!

The DVD may be working, but the ISO created from it may not be created correctly.
Please see How to install Windows using Boot Camp - Apple Support and specifically see Boot Camp: Creating an ISO image from a Windows installation DVD - Apple Support which allows an ISO to be created from the DVD used by Bootcamp Assistant on your Mac.

WHILE TRYING TO INSTALL WIDOWS MY MAC IS NOW FROZEN

ive tried to install windows on my new macbook pro, i didnt realize i was using a oem branded install disk, now i have the blue screen of death and cant get back to the apple side of the computer. what do i do now?

Hold down the "Option" key on your keyboard (to the left of your space bar) while turning your system on. Continue to hold it down until you are presented with the drive selection screen. You will be able to select your OS X partition here. Note that you'll need to actually press the mouse pad to get an actual click to make your selections as "touch to click" isn't enabled at this point. Once in OS X, you can go to Preferences and select "Startup Disk" and select your OS X drive. This will cause your system to automatically boot into OS X going forward. You can run the Bootcamp Assistant to get rid of the partition your created for Windows. You can run it again when you have the correct Windows installer.

Installed Windows 7 on my IMac, now I can't get Apple OS to work

Installed Windows 7 on my IMac, now I can't get Apple OS to work, I have tried booting with Snow Leopard disc in and nothing works. I had trouble from the start but now nothing works except Windows 7, sound wont work etc. etc.

I originally tried installing Widows 7 so I could run my Flight Simulator X on the IMac I got from my daughter and I used BootCamp and had partitioned it at about 4GB for windows and the first thing I got was I had to put a bootable disc in and neither the windows 7 or Snow Leopard would work. Then I got Windows 7 to work but I can't get Snow Leopard to run, when I put the disc in it says that it not supported. Of course windows wont show me anyother areas of the disc that I could try to get to, the other side of the partition I guess. I have tried holding the C key down on reboot and that doesn't work. I hope this gives you a little more insight as to what is going on. Thanks Bill

I can't bootcamp my macbook to install wnidows!

I’m using Yosemite OS and trying to bootcamp windows 7 on my macbook pro, when I restart my mac with alt, and choose the usb to install widows, I don’t have the option to choose bootcamp from installation windows, also I tried to using partition option in Disk Utility, but I could’t, because + option is not activated. so how can I fix this problem?

Can I use WIN 8.1 drivers for WIN 7 ?

I have HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-p147ne
it is coming with windows 8.1
I've installed widows 7 on it, coppied the drivers from win 8.1
now when I installed the drivers on win 7 , it keeps telling me that these drivers may crash the system
I continued the process >> updated the drivers after installation
windows is now working
The question is
Are these drivers (which are extracted from windows 8.1) will affect the hardwares of the PC ??? even if they are not designed for win 7 ?
will there be any problem in the performence ?

If the drivers are working, then you can reasonably expect them to continue working.
If you ever have a problem with the performance or drivers, etc., you can use all of the W7 x64 drivers and software from this model on yours except the BIOS and firmware files).

Itunes unknown error 0xE800000A

Yesterday I reformatted my hard drive and installed widows vista. I installed itunes and connected my ipod to my computer. it recognized it and started to install the 3.1 (I think the new one) ipod operating system but as I was downloading it the power cord to the computer was pulled out. now whenever I connect either of my 2 ipod touches to my computer it will give me this error message "iTunes could not connect to this iPod because an unknown error occured (0xE800000A)"
I have uninstalled my ipod drivers and reinstalled them. I have uninstalled itunes and all it's components and reinstalled them. I have tried to use the windows installer clean up program to remove itunes and install it again. I tried restarting the ipod itself. I tried resetting the settings on the ipod. all with no luck. I have never used any 3rd party applications. I have only put music and movies on it. I have no apps.

Windows 7 no internet in Parallels

Hello,
I have installed Widows 7 Pro in Parallels 7 on my late 2012 Mac Mini (Quad Core Ivy bridge, 16Gb Ram, Intel 4000 Graphics). Everything is working fine except for network/internet. Parallels/Windows is not finding a driver for the Mini's network card. I was wondering if anyone else had has this problem or knows how to correct it.

Have you installed Boot Camp drivers? You need them to make your Internet connection work on Windows.
To download them:
1. Press X key while your Mac is starting to start into OS X, and open Boot Camp Assistant.
2. Select the option to download the Windows support software, and follow the steps to burn them into a DVD or USB drive.
3. Start into Windows and install drivers

Diagnostic error problem

I am getting hardisk error when the laptop is stated. Below are sequence of errors RU0FM3-7LM7N0-MFPWLJ-608803 After refreshing / reformatting - error is as below RU0FM3-7LM7N4-MFPWLJ-60A803 After installing widows updates and HP updaes including diagnostic tools et.. below is the error code RU0FM3-7LM7N8-MFPWLJ-60C803. HP says harddisk need replacement - my PC is underwarrenty - problem is I am in India, customer care here refuses to attend quoting that this model is not yet launched so they can't provide help. Is there any solution which I can fix myself - I strongly believe its not fatal, need some clearver fixing. Please help

Success with 7 - now a Calendar

Ok friends, here's the rare success story...I beat my way thru all the issues installing Widows 7 RC on my MacBook, and it actually works rather well, so far as I can tell. I got a free email program, Thunderbird, from Mozilla which looks a lot like Mail on the OS X side, so now I need a program like iCal - I need it to be able to subscribe to the iCal Mobile Me calendars, and not much else as a minimum and not much else.
Any recommendations?

I would also download and install Windows Live. Live Mail is what I use (along with T'Bird). Live Photo Gallery etc.
But Office 2007 gets half my time and attention.

Audio in Windows 8 Boot Camp not working

I have installed Widows 8 using boot camp. The audio was perfectly fine until recently, it is not working anymore even with my earphones (though it works if I connect to an external speaker using Bluetooth).

Probably...but how come when I use Windows 8 from Mac OS, I still have to restart again so that it will work? But if my Macbook pro is opened using Windows 8 directly it has no problem (until a point where I'm not using the audio/speaker for a period of time when it will not work again).

Ok following are the steps I took to setup Win 8 Pro RTM
Created Windows 8 Pro RTM USB Boot image
Disks
Disk 0 SATA (Data drive docs and files)- 2 TB Seagate
Disk 1 SATA (OS, Apps, Software Installs) - 2 TB Seagate
Disk 2 OCZ Agility3 (Games) - 128 GB SSD
Disabled disk 0 and 2 to insure win 8 system partition created on Disk 1 - previously issue with Win 7
Installed OS - Everything booted up fine
Re-Enabled Disk 0 and Disk 2 - Everything fine
Installed VS2008 + SP, VS 2010 + SP, VS 2012
Installed SQL 2012 Developer
Enabled Win8 Hyper-V - troubles began - couldn't update - after a couple reboots ended up with the Windows 8 blue logo - had to refresh
Refresh worked - However didn’t disable Disk 0 and Disk 2 for the Refresh
Installed Windows Media Centre - ended up paying for key as the free key didn't work - suspect possible issue with the feature activation on the Australian Windows Store
Installed Splastop Desktop windows 8
Installed Office 2010
Trusted the PC
Installed Hyper-V again - troubles again couldn't boot - same blue windows 8 logo screen – this time unable to Refresh repair.
Attempted restart from USB Boot image. I can get to repair screen however can’t move forward from this point as it says the
drive is locked.
I’ve no idea how to unlock in Windows 8, I can probably do this from the command prompt, assuming its possible to unlock from there, just don’t know how to do it, which is what I need help with please.
At this stage if I can get Win 8 refreshed(without file loss) I plan is to copy my software files back to my Data Drive and then do a fresh install of Windows 7, which works well. To be honest little disappointed with the new Frankenstein
Win8 Classic/RT experience. Love the fact that Hyper-V is available in 8 (if it works) but might wait for SP1 and possibly a Start Button/Orb on the Desktop
Anyway any help in unlocking my drive would be greatly appreciate.

I'm not as tech savy as you, would you mind telling what command prompts I need to enter to see my drive mappings and how to enable/disable them?

Let me see if I can explain. I’ll say right up front there are certainly going to people on this forum who understand this a much better than I do, so if I get something wrong hopefully one of them will jump in to explain a little better.
Essentially your Physical hard disk drives, I have three can be broken up by logical partitions. When you install Windows it creates a small logical partition called “System Reserved” this logical partition of drive space is hidden on your hard disk (you
can’t browse the files), but contains some of the files needed to boot windows and also some software utilities to try and fix things when they go wrong.
Let me say it’s certainly possible that your physical disk has errors, sometimes so bad that it’s a write off. If you look through that link I posted before the guy mentions doing a chkdsk (Check Disk utility), which is a good idea. He also goes on to mention
virus checking which could be another issue.
For me and possibly for you the drive was fine no errors, Windows Repair/Refresh couldn’t find the drive I installed Widows onto. At least it couldn’t find it the second time I attempted to Refresh and this could be your issue also
This is how I had things setup when I originally installed Win8
Basically I physically removed the drive cable to insure Windows could not see Disk 0 or Disk 2 (in grey). This means Windows has to install its hidden System Partition and Windows itself on the only drive available to it Disk 1. After installing Windows
I then reattached Disk 0 and Disk 2, all good.
Windows then assigns logical drive letters, to your logical partitions not the hidden partition. The drive you installed windows on becomes the C, so for me after attaching the two other drives I get: Disk 1 assigned “C:” Disk 0 assigned “D:” and Disk 2
assigned “E:”.
When I installed the Win 8 Hyper-V, and things started going wrong
I had to use my Windows install disks (my case a USB Key) to “Repair” things I didn’t disable the drives as I’d done when I originally installed. This means when Repair utility runs it assigns logical drive letters Disk 1 assigned “D:” Disk 0 assigned
“C:” and Disk 2 assigned “E:” (0,1,2). For some reason the first time the repair utility fixed things for me it found the drive I’d installed Windows Disk 1, the second time it failed it couldn’t.
To fix my issue I disabled Drive 0 and 2 again and ran the repair this time the Repair utility defiantly looks at the correct drive I installed Windows on Disk 1 and fixes things up.
My guess is that in some cases people install Win8, then go buy and add a second hard disk to their PC. Disk 0, 1 and 2 assignments are set by the order the drive cables are connected to your hard disk, and can also be changed in some PC BIOS settings, I
think. So when things go wrong and the repair runs the first drive it sees isn’t the one with the System Partition or where Windows is installed. So if you do have other drives attached that you are you could physically drive cables to other drives (make sure
PC is OFF J) and then try the repair CD/USB.
As far as figuring out what is going on at the command line all I did was type drive letters and realised what was going on. There use to be a utility called FDISK

know.
Waka, sorry for a really long post mate, hopefully it’s not all totally wrong. So suggestions:
run chkdsk at the command prompt and try the other suggestions on the link I previously posted. If you have added a second drive, or if you have more than one drive disconnect all but the one Win8 was installed on, and then run the Repair/Refresh
utility, this worked for me.

Tecra Z40 - 2 Windows 8.1 Pro DVDs - No DVD reader

Hi.
I just got a nice Toshiba Tecra Z40. I want to install Widows 8.1 and according to the instructions I have to boot on the DVDs that were supplied.
There is one problem. *The laptop does not have an optical drive, so I can't boot from the DVD.*
I tried to access the DVD over the network (my other windows computer has an optical drive), but there is no usable program on the DVD.
Please help

According notebook specification your Tecra was delivered with preinstalled Win7 and additional Win8.1 recovery DVDs.
Before you do anything create recovery USB stick using preinstalled Toshiba recovery media creator.
Win8.1 you can install using bootable Win8.1 recovery discs.
What you need is external USB optical disc drive. Such USB ODD is not expensive. Buy one and you can use it for Win8.1 installation but also in many other situations.
Two years ago I bought external USB BD ODD for 45 Euros. I also borrowed it to my friend with the same situation. He got Satellite U940 without optical disc drive.

VM Ware or Parallels

I have a few questions I'm trying to help the son with. He has a MacBook Pro (17 inch) and a PC. He uses the PC for a few programs that are not available for the Mac. He's getting tired of the Windows slowness and constant security updating and use of memory.
He knows about Boot Camp and partitioning the HD to install Widows. I suggested before he did that, he consider either Parallels or VM Ware.
If I am correct, both of these programs do NOT require HD partitioning?
Which is better, VM Ware or Parallels
I should also add, the MacBook Pro has 3 years of college work on it.

VMware Fusion and Parallels are virtual machine applications, so they don't need a second partition. The virtual hard drive they use is a file stored in Documents folder.
Before trying them, I suggest you to use VirtualBox > http://www.virtualbox.org This application is free and will work correctly.
If you need more features or you don't like it, I prefer Parallels instead of VMware Fusion, although some users report performance problems with it. You can try a trial of both applications and decide which one it's better.
I recommend you to have 4 GB or more of RAM to run the virtual machine. You can check how much RAM you have in  > About this Mac

Problems with build in wifi card in DV6-2190us.

Hi am trying to see if someone can help me out with a problem am having with my WIFI and also LAN on my laptop.
The problems am having is with connectivity and speed on WIFI and also problems connecting to a network with a Ethernet cable.
The problem am having with my wifi is when trying to connect to a network it takes me about 5 to 10 minutes just to try to connect to the network and once connected it will continue to say unidentified network and it will take 5 to 10 minutes to connect to the internet. Once connected to the network and the internet the connection will start fast and slow down to a crawl even do am 10 to 20 feet away from the wireless router and I have full bars. After the connection slows down I will get disconnected from the network and it will take me 10 to 20 minutes to get back on it.
Also when I try to connect to the network using a Ethernet cable I will get connected but if I unplug the cable and try to connected again I won't be able to connect to the network or the internet and I would have to restart the laptop with the cable plugged in.
All of the drivers on the laptop are up to date and also windows is up to date I really don't know what's going on.
I have formatted and installed Widows 7 done all of the updates I have also updated all of the drivers for the laptop but the problem continues to come up.
After talking to some of my IT friends we removed the build in wifi card from the inside of the laptop and changed it with a wifi card of a same model laptop to rule out problems with the card, but the problem continues to happen with the new card installed on the laptop. The card that came out of the laptop with the wifi problems was installed to the second laptop and the wifi problems came up but after installing the original wifi card the problems went away.
The thing that trying to figure out is why the card that came out of the working laptop won't work correctly on the laptop that's having problem with.
If anyone has any ideas on what maybe causing the problems please reply to this post I really need to have this problem fix before I start taking online classes.

You are posting on an iMac forum. I'd recommend posting a MBA forum, however I think you best bet is taking it into your local Apple store or AASP to determine if the Wi-Fi adapter is damaged and if it is then checking to see what options you have.
