Installing Win7 pro 64 bit on GT70 dominator pro 888

After fighting with the pre-installed Win8.1, I broke out the brand-new Win7 Pro 64 bit I had laying around and tried installing it.  After fighting with the system for a while, I finally got angry enough to manage to get into the command prompt and formatted out Win8.1.  Now, on trying to install Win7, I get error code 0x80070057.  I understand I'm not the first person to encounter this, but trying to download fixes from M$ has proven...problematic.  Not all files from them will download.  I'm trying to get whatever it is I need to a DVD to move to the new machine, but, as I said...problems.
Anyone have any better ideas?  Waiting on MSI support on this as well.

props to MSI service--got it.  Having trouble with the drivers disk, but Win7 pro 64 is now on my machine.  Yep--now having to fight with figuring out how to get the drivers installed to get the most out of it, but this is a HUGE first step:

Gotta add the www to the beginning yourself, as MSI won't allow a post to their own website here.

  • Maximum External Display Size for GT70 Dominator Pro 889?

Hey all, new to the forums. I tried googling the subject question but cant seem to find anything. Just got my GT70 Dominator Pro 889, it has the 17.3 inch display, GTX 880 8 GB, 16 GB RAM, i7-4810, and a TB HD with a 128 GB SSD. I figured I'd test it out on my Samsung 60 inch LED TV. It has a refresh rate of 120 HZ and is full HD 1920x1080. I assumed the laptop could handle it but this would be the first time I tried something like this, I always used to use desktops that I build for gaming till now. I ran Max Payne 3 all graphics to the max. Now on just the laptop screen I get insanely solid frame rates, no question about that. I tried using my big screen and the game chugs and struggles with FPS under 20. My question is is my TV wayyyy too big to handle gaming from the laptop or is there something I'm missing? I know this is meant to have an additional 3 screens running at once but I figured why not with the TV but I'm aware 60 inches is a lot of ground to cover.

    Hi,
What I think is that it's mainly because it's @120Hz, rather than standard 60. 1920x1080 should be easily handled, as even with my low end notebook (nvidia gt315, i3) I was using my TV @1920x1080 with 60Hz and the only fps drop was around 5 in game like Modern Warfare 2.
Also: it is capable of 3 screens, but not really for such heavy gaming. Even highest end GPU won't handle game at highest settings and with 3 screens; lower video settings a bit from highest and see how it goes. Also make sure that NB's screen is not going to be used while you use TV.

  • GT70 Dominator Pro Kyeboard and buttons bug

    Hi there
I have just bought the latest GT70 Dominator Pro 3 days ago and problems already start to occur.
This morning the keyboards started acting funny as steelseries app will launch and led will light up under my keyboard, but the keys are not working, i have to restart the laptop 2-3 times for it to work.
Also the touch buttons at the top with fan(ramp up fan speed) and airplane mode, all the soft buttons stoped working, they were all fine yesterday. Maybe there is a bug or something but for a topend expensive gaming notebook I didnt expect something like this to happen!
Can anyone here help me to sort this out before I run to MSI to make a complaint.
    Thanks in advance

Update to the new EC Firmware and SSE from msi website should solve your problem.

  • GT70 Dominator Pro GPU question...

Well, this might be a stupid question, and I apologize ahead of time, I am still trying to learn computers and hopefully one day build one.  Either way, I have a GT70 Dominator Pro 2PE, running with NVidia 880M 8G GPU, was curious if this thing was able to fit and support running SLI 880M's.  I kinda want to upgrade.  I know one 880M is amazing and I run every single game i've come across on Ultra, I just want more power really.
    CPU: Intel i-7 4910MQ
    16G Kingston Ram
    256G Crucial Raid-0 SSD with 1TB HD
ANY help would be appreciated on this matter, thank you all in advance!!  Oh and, if it is able to support SLI, would it be plug and play or is some serious config required??

Thank you both for the replies!  They have been helpful for sure.  The main reason I did not go Alienware(I have a desktop from them) is because they were 1200.00 more for a computer with not near the spec's that I have with the MSi.  This computer is an absolute beast, as i'm sure you can see in my first post with the spec's.
As far as SLI, maybe I will save it for the desktop that I'm going to build and just use this for on the go gaming.  Shame that MSI didn't make it so it could handle SLI.
Random question, as new GPU's come out, will I be able to upgrade my GPU or am I stuck with this??  Also, I currently have to SSD's in Raid 0 but I've been thinking about adding the third SSD option they have on their site, would something like that be plug and play since I'm already in raid 0??
Once again, thanks for the replies, they have been super helpful!!

  • MSI GT70 Dominator Pro Inconsistent Frames

I have MSI GT70 Dominator Pro and I noticed that there has been slight decrease in game performance after playing the game for 7-8 hours. I am currently playing Tomb Raider 2013 and before I started playing the game I did a overall performance test of my laptop with a built in benchmark.
    My Specs:
    Intel Core I7-4800mq
    Nividia Geforece GTX 880M 8GB
    1920*1080 LCD 17.3 inch Screen
    16 GB Memory
    1TB 7200RPM-128GB SSD
Initial Benchmark before playing the game.
Tomb Raider (2013) on Ultimate setting (Tressfx on)
    Min-34
    Max-68.0
    Avg-49.1
Post Benchmark after playing for 7-8 hours
Tomb Raider (2013) on Ultimate setting (Tressfx on)
    Min-28.2
    Max-58.0
    Avg-40.7
Note: GPU and CPU same temperature on both initial benchmark and post benchmark. GPU (max-76C) and CPU (Max (55C). Same background programs and same video card drivers and same game version. I would like to know why there has been decrease in performance even though the factors are the same.

Welcome to the MSI club buddy! ....there have been quite a number or threads about inconsistent/low frame rates. I too own an MSI GT60 with GTX870M and seeing inconsistent frame rates. Hope some vbios update fixes this

  • MSI GT70 dominator pro 890 For workstation

Ive posted this on the 'workstation' section, as it would fit better there, but my laptop is technically the gaming. So, yes it is a double post one in each forum.
Wanted to know if my laptop was good for rendering, if there were any tips or tricks for using my laptop for video editing, or any tips or tricks for using vegas pro 13 in general. Newbie to this program, normally use cyberlink powerdirector 12.
     MSI GT70 Dominator Pro 890
     i7 4810mq (4900)
     32gb ram
     3x 480gb crucial m500 msata (non raid - 1 OS - 1 media source - 1 scratch disk)
     1tb Samsung evo 840 2.5" (partitioned 50/50 split - 1 Media export - 1 Regular data)
     Gtx 880m 8gb gddr5
     bluray burner
Thermal paste was repasted with antech diamond 7
     normal 17" tn 1080p panel
Question of the rendering process. If I have gpu accelerated turned on in normal preferences, but render using cpu only in the actual final render as options screen,, my 15 min movie takes about 22 min. Temps skyrocket cpu wise for first 5 seconds then calm to 90c (80c with turbo fan), gpu gets to 70c (60c with turbo fan). CPU is around 80% resourced, gpu core max, memory clock max, gpu load 15%.
But if I have same gpu acceleration on main preferences, and change to gpu rendering only under the actual final rendering as options, it takes 28 min, cpu is at 68% (80c max fan), gpu core and memory max, gpu load up from 15% to 30%, memory controller up from 3% to 11% (65c temps).
So what I see is that gpu rendering preferred options but render cpu only, uses some gpu but more cpu, and gives faster results, than total gpu rendering with more gpu power and less cpu.
Shouldn't gpu rendering be far quicker than cpu? I know my cpu is good, but thought that the 880m would definitely beat it out in rendering.

Normally I would like to say this is very good choice, but since MSI have real workstation, I recommend you check below link to find the real machine for OpenGL graphics works!!
    http://www.msi.com/product/workstation/#?category=GT Series&category_no=1151
Yup, great recommendation, and also what I thought and spent about 2 weeks researching before not buying. The most often supplied k2000m chip is crap. What it does for professional programs could be compared to the gtx 755m. The k3000 gpu is a decent mid range chip, but the k3000m is a low end. I'd compare it to the gtx 765m for gaming. Only real benefit would be specific drivers. The k4000m is the equivalent of the 870m but for professional. But isn't offered until you hit the $3000 mark. Reading so many reviews and watching several youtube videos showing side by side geoforce vs quaddro, and some programs like photoshop and vegas pro are actually rendered quicker on the geoforce. While Autodesk and maya were within a min of each other.
I know you probably saw this chart
I saw it to, which in the very beginning of my laptop search I thought I had found the perfect laptop. But after reading user forums, talking to/with people first hand, then watching some you tube showing side by side 780m vs 3100m rendering. I decided that until I could get the 4100m at a decent price, the 880m would suite me well.
The 'workstation' laptops are also 4700mq not the 4800-4810mq.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGP0ga6salw
    Heres one of photoshop comparison
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryf4b6BMjNk
heres a 2 year old maya comparison. While this one is a little off. I found one a few weeks ago that was perfect and I really should've short cutted it. But for maya and solid works, the geoforce is either right behind or right ahead for speed. But when it comes to quality, the quaddro's cant be touched.
When I use solidworks/maya for a project, normally its just something really quick. In which 100% detail isn't important, but speed is. If/when I need a perfect product, that's what the pc is for. My major projects even on a k4100m (the best mobile chip) it would take countless hours to render. My pc, dual titan black, would take 30-60 min. So I  could use laptop to start and work with project, the 880m does a great job at in project editing acceleration, then i save file/settings export. Load on pc, make sure everythings still good, and render on there. But typical large projects are better done on high dpi mouse, mechanical keyboard, and larger monitors.
I'm not slamming you at all. Thanks for the comment, typically you'd be 100% correct. And if i didn't have a full out rendering pc, that would be my only option. Plus, i hope you or anyone reading this learned a little something. Or if im wrong somewhere, i can be corrected and learn something.

Have you played around with overclocking?
Ive played with cpu overclocking. Got 4.0 on 4 cores during boost only. Had what I thought was a great overclock, ran realbench benchmark and intel tuning utility benchmark and got a worse score. No idea why, so I just left voltage stock, and upped boost clocks.
My gpu (I think all) run around the 90c mark while max settings gaming. So any gpu overclock will just bring the thermal limit quicker. But the msi 880m seems to automatically boost to 980mhz ish, which is higher than the normal 940mhz. With throttling, normally I just see it throttle the boost and bring me down to lik e920mhz. No biggie. If I turn on max fan boost, then typically still run high 80's c, but don't feel the need. I seldom play games, I use more for 3d and video rendering which was main point in buying laptop. But when I do game, its titanfall and/or borderlands 2. Both those games are pretty much max settings, 60fps with dips down to 40's while the whole screen is blowing up with explosions and such. But don't notice any lag or anything, so no complaints. My g750 js/jm models were quieter during gaming, but that said, the msi is noticeable fan, and seems every 20 seconds or so the fan kicks in higher for like 5 seconds then back down. Normally during daytime cant notice, but at night while in bed with wife, then that's where the fan noise starts to worry me. Ive only had this laptop for less than a week, but after the last few nights of rendering (which leads like absolutely no fan noise) and gaming (noticeable fan noise but not disturbing).

  • HP 2000 - 2c12NR: Removed Win8, Installed Win7 64-bit; Touchpad Problems

    Greetings HP forums!
My name is Bob and I am having an issue with an HP 2000 laptop.  A friend requested I remove Windows 8 from a laptop, and install Windows 7 since he was much more familiar with the old GUI.
I installed Win7 64-bit and am having issues with the touchpad consistently working correctly.  I have let Windows use its generic drivers, and have installed the Win8 Synaptics touch pad driver/utility.  Both drivers produce the same problematic results.  The strange issues I am having are as follows:
    - Touchpad works fine for 5-30 minutes
    - Touchpad becomes inoperable for varying amounts of time; 1-5 minutes
    - Touchpad starts working again, but requires higher than normal pressure to work OR only works on the RIGHT side of the touchpad
    - Touchpad stops working again, and then after swirling/twirling my finger around the touchpad it will start moving itself without any further input to the Touchpad at all.  Everytime it starts moving on its own, it exhibits the same behavior.  It moves only vertically, in  a perfectly straight line, roughly 2/3 the heighth of the screen, and is very choppy skipping up and down; This lasts for 10-30 seconds.
    - After it's done 'ghosting' the cursor up and down, the Touchpad is usable again, but is very finnicky.  It requires excessive pressure or response is very laggy/inaccurate to the touch you are inputting.
    - Typically after a reboot it works perfectly fine for a short amount of time, and then starts acting as I have described above.
I have tried altering any and all of the settings in the Synaptics driver utility to no avail.  I have uninstalled/reinstalled, enabled/disabled the hardware/drivers numerous times.  Each time either drivers are removed and installed it will work fine for a short amount of time and then go back to acting crazy.
I thought the ribbon cable may have been loose, so I opened the laptop up far enough to check the ribbon cable for the Touchpad.  All was well, everything was snug.
At this point I am thinking there is an issue with the Touchpad itself.  While I am waiting for a reply I am going to try reinstalling Win7 since I have exhausted all other ideas I have.
Any and all information is greatly appreciated.
    Thank You,
    Bob Melchert
    ChicagoLand Geeks
    *EDIT*
I just started the process to re-install Windows.  Once files were finished loading and the initial install screen had loaded, (where you select Language, Time/Currency Format, and Keyboard input method) the Touchpad immediately started moving vertically on itss own.  Once it stopped moving on its own, I am only able to move the cursor vertically in the spot where it was moving itself; Any input to the Touchpad only allows vertical movement.  This is the first time I have encountered this issue.  Since this is happening with Windows loaded into RAM, I am becoming more certain this is a hardware issue.

    Hello disgrntld,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand there is no audio coming from the computer. Before anything else, I would suggest a manual uninstall and reinstall of the sound driver:
    1. Go into Device Manager, then "Sound, video and game controllers".
    2. Look for the Audio driver. Right-click on it and select "Uninstall". Do not restart the computer.
    3. Restart the computer. It will force the computer to detect the hardware and install an appropriate driver.
Please let me know your results. Thanks!

  • Msi gt70 dominator pro /win 7

Hi just bought the gt70 and i,m looking to install windows 7 instead of win8.1
    is there any drivers/utilities for win7 ?
    thank you

Hey take it from me man Windows 8.1 kicks windows 7 arse on this machine!
In playing around with 8.1 it seemed a bit sluggish to me, not to mention i greatly rely on the start menu. (yes, i know i can download a multitude of "start menu" programs for 8.1).And In all fairness, there are a few things i like about 8.1, like the expanded task manager., and easy access to various recovery features (like booting directly to BIOS), but all in all, i still love my windows 7.
In any case, if anyone is interested i have a GT70 2PE Dominator pro
i was able to successfully install Windows 7 in UEFI mode, so i have a dual boot Win 7/Win 8.1 machine now.
All the windows 8.1 drivers had win7 drivers in there too. The only thing i couldn't install was the ENE Tech hardware radio button, because there are only 8 drivers for it. Not even sure what's it's suppose to control, as all my buttons at the top seem to work fine.
SO far, everything is working great, and i have no "unknown devices". I even installed most of the MSI "extras".. Battery calibration works, Dragon Center works, SSE works, Sound Blaster Cinema works, i didn't install the SCM or the supercharger though.
SO for anyone who wants 7, it's an easy install (in legacy mode). Just make sure you grab all the drivers before you install because you won't have any internet access until you install the killer network drivers.
In UEFI it requires just a little bit of work to change some windows 7 files to allow it to boot into uefi, of course i also made things doubly hard, because i also just had to use a USB 3.0 flash drive in a USB3 slot (which requires even more tweaking of the windows 7 files).
In the end i got it all to work, so far.

  • MSI Gt70 dominator pro connecting second monitor questions

I have the new dominator pro, when I plug in my monitor (23" asus ips) it automatically runs off my gtx gpu. Light turns on, heats up (not hot but not idle). Is there any way to change this to run off intel? I'm not doing anything at all that would require descrite power, right now im just trying to have vevo on monitor for my son to watch videos while I work on my laptop screen.
I know with my asus g750 laptops it was always defaulted to intel gpu when connecting second screen.

    Quote from: Dblkk;108055
Yea, I tried that. That's how I always set up multi monitor (then I have the extend/clone/ect options. But when I did that, the resolution was horrible, the picture was a good 4 inches from each side (left/right) and all the way top to bottom. All settings were full screen, regular resolution, eveyhing exactly the way it runs on my other machines. Just total crap on my msi, and NVidia graphics were still on.
I searched all settings and everything looks legit, but NVidia graphics are in charge. Maybe that's just the design of the msi, whenever a second screen is used, it just defaults (without user control) to NVidia. Maybe bios or something hidden?
Not a huge issue, just wasn't sure if it was a common msi thing with an easy fix or not.
I forgot to ask something as well. How is the monitor connected? HDMI? DVI? DP? Maybe a diferent cable might change the result? I'll try the monitor thing on my demo unit when I'm back at Memory Express on Sunday and update.

  • HT5639 Can I install Win7 32-bit from a bootable USB-Stick on iMac using Boot Camp?

I would like to run Win7 32-bit on my iMac 8,1.
    I have a bootable USB-Stick to install Win7.
Does Boot Camp support the installation from USB-Stick?
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can only install Windows from a USB drive in one of these Macs:
    - MacBook Pro with Retina display.
    - MacBook Air.
    - Mac mini (Mid 2010 and newer).
    - iMac (Late 2012).
As you don't have any of those Macs, you have to install Windows through a DVD. Also, the only iMac that can install Windows using a USB drive only supports a 64-bit Windows 7 and 8 version with Boot Camp

    1. 60GB or greater
    2. 2GB or greater
    3. Read the directions thoroughly and backup before you start.
    4. You should have a wired mouse and keyboard available, just in case.
