Installing Windows 2003 on X4100

Hi guys,
any one have had experience installing Windows 2003 on Sun Fire X4100? if yes how do i get it to detect on board H.D.Ds. I have got the drivers but it does not recognize USB floppy drive after when i press F6 at the bigining of Windows setup.......
can any one help me out ????

Your question happens to be an OS question, not a hardware question.
Therefore it is outside the scope of these forums.
Having said that, the answer is the same as in this brief thread in
one of Sun's <u>OS Installation forums</u>:
http://forum.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=29841
which was opened less than a day before this X4000-series system post to that same forum.
... Microsoft will need to provide support on all issues with the OS.

  • Cannot install Windows 2003 as paravirtualized VM

    Hello,
    I'm trying to install Windows 2003 as a paravirtualized VM but I get:
    Starting install...
    ERROR: Invalid NFS location given: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/var/lib/xen/xennfs.0J0NeF/images/xen/vmlinuz'
    Before doing this I installed a CentOS paravirtualized VM without problems. I'm doing the same but changing the CentOS ISO for the Windows ISO. I've read some threads about this and the answer was that Windows cannot be installed as a paravirtualized VM. But these threads were old (1 o 2 years) and I think that now it's possible to install Windows as a PVM.
    Please, can anybody help me??
    Thanks.

    Let me explain...
    There are two Pools: One ( A ) that can execute guests in HVM and the other ( B ) that only can execute guests in PVM. I have moved some Linux VM from A to B without problems (well, I had some problems but I solved it easily). But by now is imposible to do the same with Windows VM.
    I created the Windows VM in the A pool as HVM and installed the PV drivers. Atfer doing it the VM config file content is:
    acpi = 1
    apic = 1
    bootloader = '/usr/bin/pygrub'
    builder = 'hvm'
    device_model = '/usr/lib/xen/bin/qemu-dm'
    disk = ['file:/var/ovs/mount/501740958A2C4EFC9482E5F3A1E6F282/running_pool/Chronos2/System.img,hda,w',
    +',hdc:cdrom,r',+
    +]+
    kernel = '/usr/lib/xen/boot/hvmloader'
    keymap = 'es'
    memory = '2048'
    name = 'Chronos2'
    on_crash = 'restart'
    on_reboot = 'restart'
    pae = 1
    serial = 'pty'
    timer_mode = '0'
    usbdevice = 'tablet'
    uuid = '20bb90fb-a8e1-4dfb-a1d1-450e669dd9eb'
    vcpus = 2
    vif = ['bridge=xenbr0,mac=00:16:3E:**:**:**,type=netfront']
    vif_other_config = []
    vnc = 1
    vncconsole = 1
    vnclisten = '0.0.0.0'
    vncpasswd = '******'
    vncunused = 1
    If I try to run it in A the VM runs as HVM. If I change builder = 'hvm' to builder = 'pvm' and try to run in A I get:
    Error: Boot loader didn't return any data!
    If I try to run it in B (moving the VM previously and changing the disk location in the config file) I get :
    Error: HVM guest support is unavailable: is VT/AMD-V supported by your CPU and enabled in your BIOS?
    And if I try to run it in B changing builder = 'hvm' to builder = 'pvm' then I get:
    Error: Acquire running lock failed: 256
    Well, and now I don't know what else can I do.
    Have anybody installed a Windows VM as PV (using PV drivers) in Oracle VM successfully?
    Thank you.

  • Installing Windows 2003 Server Standard/XP is very slow- how long does it take?

    Hello, I'm looking for some ideas here...  I tried installing Windows 2003 on my newly build computer, but after 3 hours it still wasn't installed, and seemed to just be really really slow, and not frozen.  I ended up giving up and tried putting windows xp on it, but after an hour it still didn't finish installing.  I figure there really has to be something wrong here...  The only thing out of the ordinary is that I'm using 4GB ram DDR2 667.  How long does it take to install windows xp on your system?!?
    Things that I've tried have been:
    disabled hypterthreading
    loaded optimized settings
    changed sata to mode II
    MSI 945G Neo-F Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 945G ATX Intel Motherboard
    Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 ST3160812AS 160GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s
    Intel Pentium 4 650 Prescott 800MHz FSB LGA 775 EM64T
    pqi TURBO $GB (4 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5400) Unbuffered Dual
    POwer: Ultra Xfinity 500Watt ATX +5v +3.3v +12v1 +12v2 -12v +5vsb
    BIOS 1.2
    Optial Drive: Generic Toshiba DVD

    1&3 and 2&4 seem to be working okay,  I've tested all these combinations (this is just plugging in the memory and looking at the cpu in task manager)
    mem1 in slot 1 okay (tested slot 1 okay)
    mem1 in slot 1
    mem2 in slot 3 okay (test 2gigs in duel channel first set of memory okay)
    mem3 in slot 1
    mem4 in slot 3 okay (tested 2 gig in duel channel second set of memory)
    mem1 in slot 2 okay (tested slot 2 okay)
    mem1 in slot 2
    mem2 in slot 4 okay (tested the second duel channel okay)
    mem1 in slot 1
    mem2 in slot 3
    mem3 in slot 2
    mem4 in slot 4 high cpu
    mem3 in slot 1
    mem1 in slot 2
    mem4 in slot 3
    mem2 in slot 4 high cpu
    I upgraded to the latest bios, no luck...  I haven't run any extensive memory tests, but through the tests i did, it seems that the memory is okay.  Given these tests do you think it is more likely a problem with the motherboard running 4 slots?  Or maybe some power issue, where the  4 sticks of memory are not getting enough power to work right.
    The power supply I am using is Xfinity 500W

  • Can we install Windows 2003 server in a macbook?

    Guys!!!
    Can we install Windows 2000 or 2003 server in a macbook?
    The thing is...i want to get SAP installed in my Macbook leopard, for that to happen u need windows server OS.
    soo...is thr ny way that u can install windows server OS in macbook?

    To clarify what was previously mentioned... you can only install 2003 Server using virtualization software such as Parallels or VMware's Fusion. You cannot install Windows 2003 Server using BootCamp which is the boot manager shipped with Leopard.

  • Installing windows 2003

    Hi,
    I am beginning with OVM 3.0 and I am trying to install WINDOWS 2003 SERVER.
    I have the original 2003 CD but I do not know how to use it for the initial installation.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks,

    I don't know of a way to use a real CD, but there may be one. Someone else may jump in here and show how to use the real disk.
    What I've always done is download the CD image from Microsoft (or whomever) and use that. There is software that will convert a real CD into an image (extension .iso); check the Google.
    After you have the 2K3.iso available, put it on a web server that the Oracle VM can see. On the Home panel of the Manager, click "Server Pools". In the right pane, click "Repositories". Select your repository in the top pane and click ISOs in the bottom pane. Import your iso. There is no menu for that - its the toolbar button that looks like an arrow pointing down into a rectangle.
    Now, create a VM and assign it's CD drive to that ISO image. Boot the VM and open the console, and you are off to the races.

  • Installing Windows 2003 Server

    I'm attempting to install Windows 2003 server using the 875P Neo.  The system boots from the CD and loads all of the Windows driver, however, when I get to the part where I have to format the HD, the system states that it's unable to format.
    Do I have to pre-load any MSI driver during the boot installation?  Like drivers to support the 875 chip set?
    Thanks,
    David

    Once Windows loads, I get the following msg: "Setup cannot format the partition.  Your computer may not have enough memory to perform this operation, or your Windows CD-ROM may contain some corrupted files."
    I've tried this with several disks.  It will work with my Windows XP disks.
    Has anyone seen this problem?  Is this a BIOS configuration issue?
    Regards,
    David

  • K8N Master2 FAR: Windows 2003 doesn't recognise install to RAID SATA

    Summary for those that cant be bothered reading:
    PCI slot: 1 gfx card:
    SATA 1+2: WD HD.
    Raid 1 used.
    -Trying to install Windows 2003 small business server premium.
    -Installed SATA drivers (both from floppy).
    - Generally windows will stop at 'Setup is starting windows'
    It has gone past that point and gets to the drive select/install screen BUT:
    -- Using the drivers from the floppy disc, the RAID1 array shows up, but shows boths drives. From my experience it should just show one drive, the array. Both bus/ID were the same and it said they were on nvatabus.
    -- Without using the drivers from the floppy it shows both drives, same bus/ID but on atapi.
    Tried installing windows but it won't boot after install. No matter what I choose to boot from (Tried NVida array first but I got desperate and tried booting from every other device using ESC @ boot).
    Mainboard faulty?
    END SUMMARY
    K my spec should be in my profile sig so thats sorted.
    The problem I'm having is driving me insane(er). The two WD sata drives are plugged into sata1/sata2. raid is enabled in the bios and on the sata channels. Made the drives mirrored using RAID 1. Ok thats all ok so far.
    Start the windows 2003 small business server premium and press f6 so it asks for the raid drivers. Select both the raid driver and nvidia storage controller drivers (I've tried just choosing only 1 as well).
    Ok so after this it carries on until it gets to "Setup is starting windows" (something like that). Generally at this point it will hang. I've left it for a while incase for some weird reason its going slow - nothing happens. So I read the MS KB and it said to disable and remove everything not needed. Well there wasn't anything to remove physically from the board so I tried disabling bios stuff. Disabled: lan/audio/1394/serial/parallel i think that was all. So I tried again.
    Same thing happens. Try a few more times, using both drivers on the floppy disk like before. Strangely enough once it worked. HMMM. Next problem is when it got to the drive select screen, there were two drives there  . From previous experience raided drives show up as one. Both drives were though on the same ID and Bus and on nvatabus...(something...) . So I thought, maybe thats just the way this board works.
    Installed windows fine, reboot and won't boot. The raid array is marked to boot. Tried manually choosing boot device with ESC. Tried reinstalling again not using the floppy raid drivers and it picks up both drives, this time same id/bus but on atapi, not prefixed with nv.
    Why is this such a problem? I just want to raid 1 two drives and install windows to them!

    Thats the whole point. The two drives were set as raid1 in the raid bios, as described in the manual. The raid1 array was described as 'healthy'. Windows install kept seeing the 'array' as two seperate drives. I've used raid many times before and never had this.

  • Java 1.4.2_03 support on Windows 2003 RC2

    I installed Windows 2003 RC2 64-bit onto a Sun X4100.
    Put in all the drivers and tools and everything works fine.
    There is a cool tool called "LSI Logic MyManager" that utilizes java to monitor the status of the hardware OS mirror on the LSI controller.
    However, after my customer installed some of their applications, the LSI Logic MyManager couldn't start anymore. Further investigation found out that the java went quiet.
    Below are a few findings:
    1. After new installation, when java was still working, the command "java -version" will show the correct java and version installed. But now, the same command just skips a line and back to prompt.
    2. When I start the LSI Logic MyManager, it shows an error saying "Couldn't find the correct java version (1.4.2_03)"
    3. Tried installing newer java like 1.4, 1.5 and also 1.6 but the software specifically looks for 1.4.2_03 only.
    4. Tried uninstalling the software but erred with "Couldn't find the correct java version (1.4.2_03)" too
    5. Tried installing the software onto another server (the application is able to start, as well as java) and copy the whole directory back to the server with problem. Application behave the same, shows error, and java has no response (like dead).
    6. There are no newer version of LSI Logic MyManager available that hopefully supports newer java version.
    So, that'all above things that I tried to solve the mystery. Anyone, any advice or solution will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Sorry for the duplicated message. It's my first post and I messed up a little with the right section.
    A new downloaded copy of the file or other versions of Java failed to install with the same error message.
    I've learned there is a product ID in the registry that must be present for the installer to run. I'm searching for this "mysterious" product ID and how to set the right Windows XP Registry entry for the JSE 1.4.2_03 version.
    I'm still not sure this will fix the problem.
    Thanks for replying.

  • Slow response on Windows 2003 with web forms

    We are current running Oracle web forms on thin clients on Windows 2000 terminal server. We have installed Windows 2003 on one node of the cluster. When we run the same application on 2003, it is very slow and the screen flashes a lot. It takes 1-2 seconds to echo a keystroke. This is true for Jinitiator 1.3.1.25 and 1.3.1.18. We are using 1.3.1.18 on the Win 2000 terminal server. When I try form=test on Win 2003, the screen has colors and has poorer resolution that running the same on Win2003. The form has a grey background on Win 2000 but is magenta in Win 2003 and you can barely make out the hammer in the prompt. This happens when running from the same thin client with the same resolution and colors. Is there a setting on IE that could be causing this? Is there a problem with Win 2003? The Oracle application server is 9iAS but we see the same probelm with 10g.
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Copying my response from this thread:
    Report in Designer fast, in Viewer extremely slow
    Thread is now locked.
    A "cool" issue, form my perspective as this may be something new to think about / figure out. Not so cool from where you sit...
    Anyhow, a few things to check:
    1) Compare the runtime of your dev system and the Citrix system. Use Modules to do the comparison.
    2) Not sure what runtime was installed, but the most recent MSI / MSM are from SP 1.4:
    MSI
    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100004610752009E/cr2008_fp14_ri.zip
    MSM
    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100004610922009E/cr2008_fp14_mm.zip
    Trying the FP 1.4 runtime will be worth a shot.
    3) How is the performance on the Citrix when you actually sit right on the server, and not on a work station?
    4) Where is the slow down occurring (unfortunately this will require a bit of temporary code modification)? But the bottle necks typically are at:
    -report load
    - connection to the data source
    - setting of parameters
    - actual report output, be it to a viewer, export or printer.
    I suggest a possible way of tackling this in the performance article (page 4):

  • [Windows 2003]Audigy 2

    Yesterday I installed Windows 2003 (Standard Edition) op my pc, and I did all the Windows updates that were available (including SP ).
    Everything is working at the moment, except thing:
    My sound. I've got a Creative Audigy 2 NX (external usb), and I installed the driver-cd that came with it, without any problems. But, the only thing I hear right now, is a very annoying cracky noise. I can't 'hear' the original music in it, it's like a tape-recorder played on /0th speed. It's only if I play a MP3 or some music, if I stop it, the noise stops too.
    When I test the speakers with the Creative Software, I hear with 'whisper-mode' the normal whispering from all speakers. On the 'normal-mode' I hear the strange noise (which should be a voice...)
    I've used a well-known site to turn my 2003 into a workstation, and also did the sound-instructions from that site. ( http://www.msfn.org/win2k3/sound.htm )
    So I also started the dxdiag and put the hardware acceleration on Full.
    All chipset drivers are installed, and the Audio Server from Windows is started too. If I mute the 'master channel' (ie: everything) the strange noise stops, I really only hear the noise when I should be hearing music.
    I've got a 5. speakerset, from U.S. Blaster. But it's not the speakers, I tried several other sets, and all the same result.
    My other hardware:
    Motherboard: ASUS K8V Deluxe
    Harddisk: WD 0k rpm 6 mb cache s-ata 74 GB
    Screen: 20" WS Acer AL 205W
    Some time ago (before several reinstalls) everything just worked sweet with the same setup, but right now, I just can't get it going !! Please any comments / help will be h?ghly appreciated.

    Sommelier,
    Unfortunately none of our cards are supported under Windows Server environments. Due to the differences between the way multimedia is configured in standard Windows environments and Windows Server environments, we cannot guarantee that the cards will function properly when installed in them. This is why none of our cards mention WIndows Server 2000 or Server 2003 under our minimum system requirements.

  • Upgrading Oracle 9.2 (32bit Windows 2000) to 10.2 (64bit Windows 2003)

    Hello all,
    We currently run SolMan v3.1 on aged 32bit hardware and we plan to upgrade this to SolMan v4 on a new 64bit infrastructure. As part of this task, we would also like to move from Windows 2000 to Windows 2003 x64 and from Oracle 9.2 to Oracle 10.2
    The current situation is that the new server is built to Windows 2003 x64 level only. Nothing else is installed on the new server at this time. My plan was to install Oracle 9.2 and SolMan 3.1 and then take a system copy of the existing database and then upgrade it to SolMan v4 and Oracle 10.2 (leaving the old system as-is for recovery reasons, should we run into problems).
    Has anyone any experience of doing this in a Windows and Oracle environment who could help me with getting this right?
    Many thanks,
    Arwel Owen.

    Hi all,
    As this is a fairly low-priority upgrade, we decided to try to experiment a little to try to avoid the ORacle 9 to 10 upgrade. We decided upon the following approach:
    1) Install Windows 2003 x64 (on new server)
    2) Install Oracle 10.2 x64
    3) Install SolMan v3.1
    4) Export existing SolMan v3.1 database (from existing server)
    5) Import existing SolMan v3.1 database (onto new server)
    6) Upgrade to SolMan v4
    We have installed Oracle 10.2 and applied 10.2.0.2 Patchset 1 and all seemed okay. We are now installing SolMan v3.1, but SAPinst crashes out after specifying the SAP system directory and transport host and just before starting the database-dependent cations. The error message is:
    <b>ERROR: MDB-06168. Oracle is not installed on this host. Install Oracle before continuing.</b>
    Oracle definitely IS installed, but it appears that SAPInst for SolMan v3.1 may be too old to recognise Oracle 10.2.
    I thought I'd ask for advice before I go and butcher the KEYDB.XML and ORADBPAR.XML files. (It's only a test install!)
    Thanks,
    Arwel.

  • Problem about partition on window 2003

    Dear All
    Why I can't see Oracle Cluster Registry (OCR) and Cluster Synchronization Services (CSS) Voting disk When I re-install cluster ware, event though I re-install Window 2003 operation system and delete all partition on share disk then re-partition.
    Could you show me how to clear these partions(Oracle Cluster Registry (OCR) and Cluster Synchronization Services (CSS) Voting disk) before re-installing CRS
    Thanks so much

    There are 2 things you must do.
    1, you must remove the symbolic link name using the oracle tool guioracleobjmanager
    2, you must format the partitions using logpartformat (or use the clean all command from diskpart)

  • Windows 2003 on Sun X4200

    getting out of range on video when installing Windows 2003, right when it says starting windows GUi for the first time, no way in bios to turn resoultion down, tried setting S/W bios memory hole enabled. Please help I have 6 of these beast to do.

    Hello Lewis. It sounds to me that the problem is between Windows and your monitor, not the BIOS. Usually, an 'out of range' message from the monitor indicates that either the horizontal or vertical frequency being used by the software (Windows) is beyond that your monitor can handle.
    This is usually caused by improper initial detection by Windows, or the wrong parameters input during installation. If you have a plug-n-play monitor (which I'm assuming), Windows should easily poll the monitor for specifics and make base settings accordingly. Usually this works fine.
    I recommend you bring up the system in Safe Mode, and make settings adjustments. If your particular monitor is not matched properly in Windows (it does not contain explicit model information), you will have to hand-enter the particulars. The best way to go about doing this is to first set it up as a medium resolution VESA standard type, say at 800x600x256 colors. Reboot the system normally, and make changes and adjustments once running the GUI, which you can save or back-out from.
    Let me know how you make out with this, pm..
