Installing Windows 7 (64 bit) in MacPro 2.6Ghz Intel Xeon - Impossible?

There is a list of machines on which Bootcamp apparently does not suport Windows 7 - and lucky me, having purchased my copy of 'ultimate' it looks as if mine is one of them.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3986
According to the list "*Mac Pro (Mid 2006, Intel Xeon Dual-core 2.66GHz or 3GHz)* " is not supported - now mine is mid 2007, not 2006, but it isn't clear whatis meant there - but I'm thinking it probably means from mid 2006 until the end of production of the 2.66Ghz Intel Xeon Dual-core model. Correct?
But, has anyone managed to get Windows 7 onto one of these, with or without BootCamp - if so, how?
When I use bootcamp, put the 64 bit disc in the drive, it then gets as far as trying to boot from the DVD, and gives a message:
1
2
*Select CD-ROM Boot Type:_*
at this point the keyboard (as supplied with the Mac Pro, apparently important) does not work, nor does a PC format keyboard, so there is apparently no way to select an option, and I wouldn't know which of 1 or 2 was the correct boot type anyhow. The disk sticks and can only be ejected by pulling it out of the casework and pressing the usually concealed button on the drive.
Any pearls of wisdom gratefully received - or do I need a newer Mac Pro for W7?
Thanks. Stephen.

I'm experiencing exactly the same. Found some articles about re-burning the DVD but it hasn't helped.
My suspicion is that the BIOS (or mac equivalent) does not support booting 64bit OS. I remember trying to force OSX Leopard to boot 64bit and it wouldn't work. I can't recall the exact issue, but I suspect its similar.
I am installing Windows 7 Ultimate x64 in a Fusion VM - but not bootcamp - just a regular old VM. So far that is fine. Its not done yet but it is loading.
It may be as simple as a BIOS update - but as far as I know - there are none for my Xeon 3GhZ based system.
oh well.

  • It's impossible to install Windows 64 Bits on my Macbook Pro, why?

    Hey everybody,
I was tryng for three days to install Windows (8 and 7 after) 64 bits version on my Macbook Pro and I can tell you that It's impossible...
It's doesnt matter what I do, the PC does not recognize the bootable disk or usb for Windows.
    I followed these steps:
    - I downloaded the Windows 7 official ISO image to burn a DVD Setup after use the Boot Camp Assistant.
    - When I used the Boot Camp Assistant, I tried to "Download the latests Windows support software from Apple" but 2 minutes after I chose that option, the assistant alert me that the Server doesn't have the files anymore... so I had to simply use the install option BUT it requires that I put the Windows Installation CD on my PC and when I put it on it... the PC doesnt recognize it! My "solution": I mount a Virtual Drive with the ISO image of the DVD and now my Mac recognize the Installation CD so I can continue with the installation...
    - After that the PC was restarted and thats the last step that I reach because when It's tryng to start with the Installation Drive it's doesn't recognize... again!! A black screen appears with a text that say "Insert a bootable drive and press any key"... or something like that.
So I'm stuck in this step because I was tryng to use another Installation CDs, burning it again and again, tryng with Windows 8 too and nothing happens.
I tried to make an USB Bootable too but my Boot Camp Assistant doesnt have any option to make it (I read that some macbooks have an a 3rd option in his Boot Camp Assistant that prepare a USB with the ISO of any Windows Installation CD) so obviously whitout it was completely useless.
I was tryng to make a bootable dvd with UDF format (cause I read that if the cd is not in that format It doesnt be recognize in Mac as a bootable drive...).
What can I do? I know that Windows 32 Bits Systems run on my Mac but It should support 64 Bits Systems too (I was reading the compatibility of Boot Camp and Windows versions and It should run!).
    Please help me
    My Macbook Model is:
    Macbook Pro 13-inch, Mid 2010
Processor 2,4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory 4 GB 1067 Mhz DDR3
    Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256MB
    Software: OS X 10.9.2 (13C1021)
    Boot Camp Version: 5.1.2 (481)

you can just download the bootcamp drivers manually
    http://www.apple.com/dk/support/bootcamp/
    and you can't
: I mount a Virtual Drive with the ISO image of the DVD
bootloader time nothing can read virtual drives you need a real dvd with the iso burned on it or to do the usb install way
have you tried to view some of the tons of youtube guides which show you step by step how to install windows on bootcamp ?

  • Installed Windows & 32 Bit But Drivers and USB ports NOT WORKING.

I bugh an HP Pavillion TS 14 Notebook that came preinstall with Windows 8.1 64 bit which I hate so wiped the drives and installed Windows 7 32 bit and now I have a big problem.  None of my network drivers work and the 2 uSB ports where I plug my mouse and other SB hardware in no longer work.
I did a back up of the SW Set up file that has all of the HP dvers for my laptop but both the network and video divers won't install. And When I try to install the drives I get the eror message saying they are not compatible with this version of Windows.
I have loked on the HP website under my laptop model which s as above but HP don't do drivers for Windows 7 32 for my laptop. And I have looked on both the Realteck website for both the Realteck ethnet and Realteck wireless network drivers but none of them work or install on my operating system. The video drivers Intel don't work either. So I am really stuck a I cannot go back to Windows 8.1 as though that 32 bit Windows 7 would work on my laptop but most of my drivers are not compatible with the operating sytem And I don't want to install 64 bit Windows as I like 32 bit.
The drivers that are not working on Windows 7 32 bit are:
    Realteck RTL8188EE 802-11b/gn witeless lan
    Realteck ethnet die and
    Intel High definition graphcs driver
Which don't work at all on Windows 7 32 bit as they are 64 bit only drivers.
So can you please post me a link bth the network and Intel graphics drvers that work with my laptop. As I have tried lots of different Realteck and raphics drivers for Window 7 but NONE of them work on my system. And None of my USB ports are working either. So how do I solve this problem?

    Hi:
Should be no problem to get W7 32 bit to work on that model.
Just use all of the drivers and software from the HP Probook 450 G0 on your model except the Audio, BIOS and firmware files.
Your model uses the Intel HD graphics driver only.
The first driver you have to install is the Intel chipset installation utility and then reboot.

Audio:  Accept the agreement.  Download and install the first driver on the list.

If for some reason, the Intel HD graphics driver from that model does not work, then use this one...

  • Installing Windows 7 in a MacPro with three drives

    Hi all,
I wonder if it´s possible to install Windows 7 using BootCamp in my MacPro. I have two RE2 Western Digital drives a as RAID and another SEAGATE single drive. Can I install BootCamp in this drive? BootCamp is reporting RAID isn´t allowed! What RAID??? It´s a single drive!
    Thanks in advance,

Boot Camp Assistant is a very crippled partition tool that also isn't needed.
Just pull your RAID and boot from Windows 7 DVD.
When done with updates and all, pop the RAID back in.
AppleHFS driver in Windows Boot Camp 3.x that Apple Setup adds can't see or read your RAID and is known to be problematic at times.
You may have to set the default boot OS from Windows control panel (way way too many things are called "Boot Camp" that it gets confusing or seems like it, why not Windows Startup Disk? or "OS Manager" instead?).
    You'll be fine.

  • I installed bootcamp 4.0 4033, installed window 32 bit but can't install the drivers for some reason i keep getting error message. i have a macbook pro mid 2011 version. Please help

I installed bootcamp 4.0 4033 so that I can install windows 7 32 bit on my mac.  Everything works fine until I try to install the drivers and I get an error message stating the version of windows does not work with the drivers I am trying to install.  I have a feeling somehow I am downloading 64 bit drivers when I need 32 bit.  I spoke to Apple and they said I can't use 32 bit windows.. but that is not what the support site says (it says I can as long as I use bootcamp 4, not 5).  Also, my bootcamp assistant is version 5.. I have no idea if that matters.  Help please.. been searching online for hours.

What model/year is your Macbook Pro? What operating system version?

Need to know the Model Identifier or when it was manufactured.
It needs to have been released in Early 2008 or newer. Model Identifier 3,1 or greater.
Yours appears to be the original Mac Pro. It doesn't have the necessary hardware (64-bit EFI) to run Mountain Lion or Mavericks.

    Hi,
You must uninstall 32 bit version before you can install 64 bit version. Your machine MUST run 64 bit Operating system. Please also consider this:

  • 2006/2007 MacPro 2.66GH Intel Xeon. What version EFI should it have?

I have a 2006/2006 2.66GH Intel Zeon MacPro.  This version MacPro came with a 32 bit EFI firmware.  After having a new video card iunstalled at the Apple Store I found that my MacPro would no longer recognize bootable FW800 external drives or my eSATA external drives during an OPTION boot.  This function had worked perfectly before I had the video card switched out.  My FW800 drive DO show up on the desktop after boot and are accesssable... I just can no longer boot up my bootable SuperDuper backups as I had been able to prior to the video card switch.
My thinking is that the technician thought he was doing me a favor and upgraded my machine to the latest 64 bit EFI ... While the machine works fine my bootable backups are useless.
What version EFI SHOULD this machine have and how do I check the version to see if I am correct?  If this IS the case how can I restore the original firmware?
    Thanks....

Here is some information for you.
You don't even say what video card. And the EFI in your sysem 1,1 or 2,1 isn't going to change into UEFI 2.x instead of 1.1 (which was developed in 2005, and doesn't have room to be flased to, nor would the motherboard be happy).
The rest, if you bought a card from Apple like ATI 5770 is not from having a new card.
That card requjres 10.6.4-1/2 or later, meaning you won't have a 10.6.5 DVD to boot from and can't use older DVDs. Or clones.  You need to find a way to update your backups.
In the past I could run a combo update against clones while booted from another drive. Last time I tried that, seems 10.6.x made that impossible, and harder to apply and test.
Only 2008 Mac Pro and later have the EFI64/UEFI (2.x) - that supports things like Nvidia GTX 285. There were two versions of Nvidia 8800GT (1st gen EFI32, and 2008+).  ATI cards work in all Mac Pro models - as long as the OS has the proper minimum build..

  • How to install Windows 7 on extra Internal Disk

Apple's latest "Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide" does not provide clear instructions to accomplish what I believe to be possible. A review of this forum for past articles provides more clues, but still leaves me wondering what are the actual steps to achieve my goal:
Install Windows 7 on my MacPro on an internal disk that is not in the first hard drive bay. I want to make the Windows disk it's own single partition, and keep my MacOS on it's own drive as it currently exists.
Here's what Apple's latest guide states:
"If you have a MacPro with more than one internal disk and you want to install Boot Camp on a disk that isn't in the first hard drive bay, remove the drives in the lower numbered bays. You can reinstall the drives after you install Boot Camp."
I have a call in to Apple Support and it was immediately bumped up to Engineering because none whom I spoke with were able to answer the question. In fact, they told me that no one had ever asked the question before!
So I would like to understand the actual steps. Could I boot from the Windows CD and choose the internal disk I want to install it? Do I need Boot Camp to load and install the Apple supplied Windows drivers?
    MacPro 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Xeon, 8 GB 1066 MHz DDR3, 3 internal drives. OS X 10.9.4

The disk I want to put Windows on is named "Windows HD". Here is the diskutil list from my machine:

      2:                  Apple_HFS Time Machine Backups    2.0 TB    disk3s2
Does this mean the Windows HD disk is already in the first hard drive bay; /dev/disk0?
My lack of clarity stems from the Apple instruction to remove my OSX boot drive. I have Windows 7 DVD install disk. Thank you for the help.

  • How to install Oracle 9i (9.2.0.2) in Windows Server 2003 x64 - Intel Xeon

I have tried to install Oracle 9i (9.2.0.2) in Windows Server 2003 x64 Enterprise Edition with Intel Xeon (EM64T) processors.
When I run setup.exe I get an error: "The image file C:\Documents and settings\administrator.SERVERNAME\my documents\92021 win64_disk1\setup.exe is valid, but is for a machine type other than the current machine".
I have to install Oracle 9i in that server but I can't run the installation. Is there a way to solve this problem, is there a patch that can solve this? Anyone know something about this problem?
    Thanks a lot!!!
    I'm desperated!!

    Hi,
    reply to my own question:
In the docs provided with the downloads for Oracle Database Server 9i x64, I found that this version requires either
    - Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition for 64-Bit Itanium 2 Systems
    or
    - Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition for 64-Bit Itanium 2 Systems
So I guess, the only X64 platform being supported under Windows Server 2003 (both Datacenter / Enterprise Editions) is Itanium CPUs ...
... though this is not (!!!) clearly stated in the download link (other/newer versions are listed more precisely - I guess it's a matter of an old link: no Intel Xeon / AMD Opterons were available (???) when Oracle 9i database server was published).
So I'll give it a try with 10g database server ;-)))

  • No bootable disk after installing Windows

I tried to install Windows 7 with Boot Camp on my Intel Single Core Mac Mini, and after having an error message I couldn't boot anymore. All I was getting was a black screen with the cursor flashing. I took the opportunity to upgrade to a bigger hard drive. I got the older hard drive out, deleted the windows partition, and cloned the original mac partition onto the new hard drive. All I get now is instead a "no bootable disk - insert bootable disk and press any key" error message. I have tried to boot from the original Install DVD, but no key combination works on start up. I tried C, Option key, Command-Option-Shift-Del, but it still goes to the black screen. The mouse is still working, as I can get the DVD out if I click the left button on start up but no keyboard seems to work (I tried to original Apple ones). I have got the new hard drive out, put it in an enclosure, formatted it with my laptop, and tried to install OSX from the disk but still can't boot from disk and still get error message. Any help?

While we all have MacBooks in this forum not all of us use BootCamp. There's a BootCamp Support Community where everybody uses BootCamp. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.
