X60 Tablet users: Windows 8 upgrade experiences?
I have an X60 Tablet (6363-5BU) with Windows XP Tablet Edition SP3. 2GB of RAM and 250 GB HDD. I'm thinking about upgrading to Windows 8. There are plenty of anecdotes about Win 7 upgrades but not many Win 8 upgrades. It would be nice to find out what issues, pitfalls and workarounds have been discovered and gathering them all here on this thread...
T60 Tablet; T60 Widescreen; T60; T40; 701C; 3 x Apple Newton MP2100; 2 x HP 200LXWorks great
It all worked perfectly right after install.
Im trying to get the buttons for quick screen change to work as they are unrespsonsive but to be honest I never used them much before. So they're not quiet the priority.
It is considerable faste rthan windows 7, I'm sure you will love it.

this WCf service. I had run this setup in my local machine and was successful. Now i need to install this this entire setup in a windows 8.1 tablet which neither has a Visual studio nor developer cmd prompt, how would i achieve this . Kindly Help...
MJHi,
For this situation, if you use windows 8.1 tablet, it should have the cmd prompt. You may try to use the system cmd prompt to install the windows service.
About how to install Windows service on Windows 8.1 tablet, you could ask the windows system forum.

Want to install Windows 8.1 Enterprise on my Yoga 2 10 tablet
I would like to install Windows 8.1 Enterprise on my Yoga 2 10 tablet. The tablet came with Windows 8.1 with Bing preinstalled. This upgrade will require a full reinstall as there's no upgrade path to the Enterprise from the preinstalled version. Unfortunately, there are no dowloads for drivers or the bundled software on the Lenovo support site for the Yoga 2 10 tablet (1051F). Will the drivers & bundled software eventually be available for download or are they something I need to purchase?
Hi all,
I finally figured it out. I have the 13" with the 64GB drive Yoga 2 Tablet.
Here's what I did.
1. I used Double Driver to scan my system and backup ALLof the original drivers to a flash drive.
2. I attached a USB 2.0 hub (Must be 2.0 to avoid additional driver issues during 8.1 enterprise install)
Attached a standard keyboard, mouse, and 8GB flash drive with Windows 8.1 Enterprise on it.
(the flash drive must be a standard flash drive and must be created to booth via UEFI. I used ISO2Disc to do this)
3. After I was sure the drivers backed up I shrunk the partition of the current windows drive to 20GB and created a new partition
4. I restarted and boot into the bios and turned secure boot OFF(after you push restart hold the volume up button until it brings you to it. Here you'll find the boot manager, BIOS, etc.)
5. I then restarted again and boot to UEFI USB that had my windows 8.1 enterprise (x86 only - x64 is not supported with these devices/BIOS that I know of)
I installed 8.1 Enterprise on the new partition that I'd just created out of the remaining space I took from the original windows install - It would not allow me in any way to install 8.1 OVER the previous windows install.
6. I installed windows as normal and then used Double Driver to do a restore of ALL the previous drivers I captured from the other partition with windows on it. I had to click through several "Publisher not found, do you want to install anyway?" prompts, but it worked out really well.
7. I did a restart and ensured that everything continued to work as expected.
8. Then I booted back into the Enterprise install and in Disk Management deleted the old partition of the previous windows install and recommisioned it as a new simple volume.
*At this point there are likely tools that would combine the partitions for me but I didn't have one nor could I get any good recommendations so I preceded to do it the only way I knew how and went to step 9.*
9. I went back and repeated Steps 5-7 but this time installing Enterprise on the Original partition.
10. After a restart and ensuring the drivers worked I did all the windows updates and checked to make sure everything was good.
11. I used disk management to delete the FIRST install of Enterprise and then expanded my SECOND install of enterprise to reclaim the unused space.
12. Installed all my normal programs, joined to domain, and treated it as a normal computer from here on out.
Note - I left the 100MB EFI untouched as I'm pretty sure this is what fuels the BIOS and boot. Also the ~5GB Recovery partition untouched in case I ran into any problems and needed my original factory image back. -

Installing windows 8.1 on X60...is it ok ?
Hi...
My laptop is an old lenovo thinkpad X60
I want to upgrade XP to windows 8.1 ( if it is not possible...then maybe windows 7 )
I already got an official answer from lenovo service center that it is ok with 7 but not ok with 8.1
but...
I found some experiences of X60 users that it is ok with 8.1
so I am really confused...
anyone who can give me solid information based on expert level knowledge or real personal experiences...?
if your answer is ok with 8.1...how did you install 8.1 without no bios update support from lenovo...?
thanks...Hi Jaejoonlim,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are looking for Windows up-gradation for your ThinkPad X60.
Your system is not supported for Windows 8.1, because there are no drivers available for that version, and some hardware may not work without the supporting drivers. Hence we won’t suggest installing Windows 8.1.
Hope this helps!
Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

Hi,
I need to install windows 8 64bit on a 64bit architecture Tablet(acer iconia w4-820) by removing the preloaded 32bit windows 8.1 or should make it as dual boot. For a project purpose.
I tried booting the tablet from windows 8 64bit DVD for installation but it does't even detect the DVD Drive. when i insert the recovery DVD which came with acer it gets detected.
The windows 8 64bit DVD which am trying to install is volume licensed which we use to install on our laptops. That works fine with Laptops.
Is their any different version of windows 8 do i need to try for installing on Tablet(acer iconia w4-820) or where am i going wrong.
Thank for your help.SM
DISCLAIMER. I would contact Acer about this to be safe, but if you only have one HD in the tablet you are going to have to do a clean install by formatting the HD. You cant run 64 bit & 32 bit on the same drive AFAIK.

Installing Windows XP to Thinkpad X41 (Not Tablet)
Alright so I got a used IBM Thinkpad X41 from my uncle which had windows xp installed on it. He asked me to reformat it so his companys information and other data would be fully erased.
Some specs on the X41:
Does not have CD/DVD Drive so I can't install windows that way.
Does have USB slots, so I think that will be the only way to install (correct me if I am wrong).
Me being a complete newbie, I full erased the hard drive (so there is no OS). The laptop still turns on but when i let it run it says:
Media Test Failure, Check Cable
Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM
Operating System Not Found
Luckily the Bios still works and I can access it but there is nothing I can do to restore it back to factory state or recover.
The Bios does detect my usb drive and I have placed that in the number one spot for boot order.
If there is anyway I can get an OS installed onto my pc I would be grateful. Note I don't need to install XP on the first install, If installing windows 98 or 95 will be faster and easier we can do that.
I can take it from there as all I will need is the xp install files which i have copied from my cd to my computers share folders.
Thanks again hopefully there is a solution to my problem, I'd really like to have this laptop for school as im going into grade 12.Welcome to the forum!
Fastest and probably least painful way around this is to buy or borrow a USB CD-ROM and take it from there...
Good luck.
Cheers,
George

HP Omni 10 5600eg: Install Windows 8.1 Pro x86
Hi,
is it possible to install Windows 8.1 Professional (32 bit) on the Omni 10 without problems?
Are there any how-tos available?
Regards
AndreasHi @AndreasN , welcome to the HP Forums. I understand you are looking for an instructional to install Windows 8.1 Pro x 32 on your Omni tablet.
If you are saying that you want to install a retail copy of Windows on it, I do not have an instructional for you and I have never done it on an Omni tablet. I cannot guarantee you wouldn't have any problems, but I can give you a few things you will need. Here are the drivers you will need:
HP Omni 10 5600eg Tablet Drivers
If you have Windows 8.1 DVD's you would need a computer to make an installation USB drive to get it on your tablet:
Create installation media for Windows 8.1. There are many other instructionals out there as well, if you need more info.
If I am wrong, and you just mean to do a factory reset, these instructions cover that: Recovering Software on Your HP Tablet (Windows 8)
I hope this helps.

USB ports don't work after resuming from standby with Windows 8 on X230 tablet
I have just done a clean install of Windows 8 on my X230 tablet. Before installing Windows 8 I installed the most recent BIOS for this machine (version 2.50). After installing Windows 8 I installed System Update from the Lenovo Website and downloaded all the recommended drivers and other files. I've also installed all the latest Windows 8 updates.
Here are the symptoms of my problem: After resuming from standby/sleep mode, my USB ports do not work. My computer has two USB 3.0 ports and one USB 2.0 ports. All exhibit the same behavior. After resuming from standby mode I have tried inserting both my mouse and a USB thumbdrive, but neither are recognized. After restarting Windows, the USB ports work again... until I resume from standby mode again.
I hope there is a solution to this issue. It is very frustrating. Thanks for the suggestion about tweaking the "Allow this computer to turn off this device" feature. I un-checked that box for every entry I could find under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" in the Devide Manager. Unfortunately, the same symptoms of my problem persisted.
I went back and looked at the README file associated with the BIOS 2.50 download on Lenvo's support site. At the bottom of the file it gives a "Summary of Changes". Under version 2.03 of the BIOS (the version just before version 2.50), it says:
- (Fix) Fixed an issue where USB device might not detected when system resume from sleep mode.
This indicates that Lenovo support was already aware of such issues. The problem was intended to be fixed in version 2.03 of the BIOS. However, the issue persists on my machine, even with the latest BIOS.
Hopefully someone from Lenovo can comment here. -
How to install windows 8 on a Lenovo IdeaTab K3 Lynx
Hello all,
So the warranty on my 3 Lenovo IdeaTab K3 Lynx is expired and all restore partitions are corrupted, although the hardware is in good sound condition im left with paper weights. I have contacted Lenovo Support and spoken to about 12 people in a matter of 3 days. Lenovo options are: 1. purchase extended warranty for $400 (this according to the person i spoke with) 2. Send my Lenovo IdeaTab K3 Lynx to a repair center for an initial cost of about $100 plus whatever they find wrong with the tablet. I would much rather install Windows 8 and all the drivers for the Lenovo IdeaTab myself. Lenovo Ideatab support unlike Toshiba support refuses to sell a recovery USB or ISO.
I have tried to boot a windows 8 USB with EFI but no success. ALL Recovery partitions are corrupted, to there is no other way but to reinstall a copy of windows on to the Lenovo IdeaTab K3 Lynx. Ghosting the tablet also did not work.
at this point i would be happy to install Linux as well.
anyone have any ideas?
Thank you,
Fabian

Problems installing Windows 7 from a USB stick
I have got a brand new W510 that i am doing a clean install of Windows 7.
However i have faced major problems with installing from a USB stick attached to the W510.
Please notice that there isn't any problem installing Windows 7 to my other PC from this USB stick, this problem is only present with W510.
I have the BIOS from Lenovo v 1.35, Bios settting are reset to default to isolate any faulty settings.
In the readme file the say they have fixed some USB detection problems by Windows. bug still present??
Version 1.35 (BIOS ID: 6LET74WW) [for BIOS ID 6Lxxxxxx-based computer]
[Problem fixes]
- Fix an issue that a USB device is not recognized by Windows connecting
to USB 3.0 port.
Below is picture of the problem.
First i choose to boot from my USB Stick Sandisk Cruzer which Windows 7 files are placed, i know these files and the USB stick works with my other computer.
Picture 1
Next step when it boots
Picture 2
I press Install Now
Picture 3
This warning message comes up, can't find driver device
Picture 4
I click browse and try to find my USB stick, none of my USB sticks are listed, is this a Lenovo BIOS bug or Windows 7 Installation detection problem??
Picture 5I think you need to fix your links, you seem to have maybe copied the post from another board / forum, the link style you have inserted doesn't work here.

[SOLVED] ACPI handler.sh no longer working (Thinkpad X60 Tablet)
Hello there,
I recently did a few updates on my system to reduce power usage and get hdaps working. For some reason one of these changes must have broken ACPID in some way so that what I wrote in handler.sh no longer has any effect when I e.g. press the configured buttons to lock my screen or shut down, but I have no clue which.
I'm not really familiar with where ACPI and ACPID keeps all their logs either, and which parts in there might mean something for me. I don't even know how I can check if ACPI is running properly and just ACPID isn't, for instance (both are running thought, confirmed with ps -A).
Here's what I can remember of what I did:
-full system update
-install cpufreq to redcude power usage with acpi_cpufreq
-install HDAPS with Thinkpad driver, as described on the Wiki
-tweak my laptop-mode settings, e.g. disable VGA output when in laptop mode
-enable AHCI for my hard drive in kernel image and BIOS
Would be great if you could help me troubleshoot this somehow, as I really don't have a clue on how to fix this. Here's some output that might be helpful for starters:

"Purchase couldn't be completed" on Windows RT 8.1 tablet. Error 0x80240017
I'm trying to get Revel installed on a Nokia Lumia 2520 (Windows RT 8.1 tablet), and it keeps throwing the error message "Your purchase couldn't be completed: Something happened and your purchase can't be completed. Error code 0x80240017."
The tablet is fully updated as of 11/28. I checked UAC and that's turned on, as well as automatic updates, and I even wiped the device out and reloaded everything. No dice.
Also checked, and KB2887595 is installed, so it's not that...
Any ideas?Revel is supported on windows 8 tablets and compuers, but is not currently supported on Windows RT.

Unable to install windows 8 Pro (64bit) on R61, 7755jm1
I have an old thinkpad, the R61 series, model 7755JM1.
And I tried to install windows 8 pro (64bit) on it, hoping to have a taste of the new OS's touch features through remote control on my tablet.
However, the installation has never been successful.
I was able to finish the installation process. Yet whenever it starts to "setup my device", it was never able to finish, and it usually stopped at 65% or 84%.
then my thinkpad would restart on its own, and threw an error message telling me my computer is restarted unexpectedly and the installation is not succeful, also suggesting me try to install again.
This is very frustrating. I have checked on intel's website and other online sites that my CPU (core 2 dual process T8100) supports intel64, and execute disable bit (in my BIOS I think it is by name of "execution prevention"), and sse2, sse3.
In my BIOS, I enabled execution prevention, set SATA mode to "AHCI", and enabled "extended memory test". I format the partition every time I tried to install.
I have installed windows 7 pro on my thinkpad before, and it was just fine.
Do anybody have any idea what is going and how should I solve this?
Many thanks.
Lee.Hello,
According to the Lenovo, the specs for your R61 (MT: 7755-JM1) as it shipped are as follows:
T8100(2.1GHz), 1GB RAM, 160GB 5400rpm HD, 14.1in 1400x900 , 128MB nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11agn wireless, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ether, UltraNav, Sec Chip, FPR, Camera, 4c Li-Ion, WinVista Home Basic 32.
As you pointed out, the T8100 is a 64-bit CPU, so there should be no problems with that. I did notice that the unit originally shipped with 1GB of RAM, though.
From looking at Microsoft's Windows 8 System Requirements page, I see that 2GB of RAM are required for the 64-bit edition of Microsoft Windows 8, so if your R61 only has the original 1GB of RAM in it, it will need to be upgraded..
The R61 officially supports 4GB of RAM in the form of two 1GB PC2-6400 800MHz DDR SO-DIMM modules, and apparently can unofficially be upgraded to 8GB using two 4GB modules with the same characteristics.
If you already have 2GB (or more) of RAM installed, the other suggestion off the top of my head is to make sure you have the latest version of the BIOS firmware installed:
Name: BIOS Update Bootable CD for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bit), XP, 2000 - ThinkPad R61, R61i 14.1 inch widescreen with IEEE 1394, ThinkPad T61, T61p
URL: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS013943
Version: 2.30-1.08
Released: 02 Apr 2012
If the issue still occurs, please let us know and we can try and help you troubleshoot it further.
