Installing windows 8.1 in my mac

Hellow there;
I, puurchased windows 8.1 from microsoft website and authorized me to download "WindowsSetupBox" with key license. After that I used Bootcamp 5. when i was on the step of installing windows. it asked  me to insert the disk of the what I downloaded but it did not recognize it. Would I need to have an older version before I get into 8.1
Thanks

Hello there;
I did exactly what you told me and I moved one step forward but stuck again. I burned "Windows ISP into DVD Cd using my Mac. After it showed me Cd burnned successfuly, I then start the proceadures of using Bootcamp Assistance.Because it would take a long time I, unchecked installing windows Support software because I have it in my USB and I caninstall later, so I only checked windows 7 installation. I then got red off of what I usaully see in the laster couple of days"Install Windows installer Disc and it proceadue to Disc Partionning and I made my choice. After that I got back screen and a dash __  prompt and kept there for long time. I switched that off and started again and this time it asked me"NO BOOTABLE DISC. INSERT WINDOWS BOOBALBE DISC." . I quit the process.

  • Can I install Windows 8 (DEMO) on a MAC and play windows based games ?

Can I install Windows 8 (DEMO) on a MAC and play windows based games ?

I installed the Developer beta with Bootcamp Assistant yesterday and was very impressed with the ease of the installation. Unfortunately, and I don't know if this is a problem with my video BIOS on my Macbook Air, but Windows 8 installs with two screens split horizontally - so it's effectively useless.
I tried 3 times and gave up. The same thing happens with Linux distributions, however with Linux I can pass "nomodeset" on the kernel command line which fixes it. I don't know how to do that in Windows.
This was happening with both 64x and 32-bit Win8 fwiw.
Oh, also...when I was trying to play around with Bootcamp.exe inside Windows 8, I remember a message popping up saying Bootcamp is only configurable with Windows 7 ISOs. But aside from the kernel graphics issues and some driver compatibility problems, Bootcamp loaded the Win8 ISOs fine.

There's been an update for OSX ML which addresses the issue for installing Windows 8 on bootcamp.
It's NOT recommended that you Upgrade.. However, the way to get the drivers is:
You'll need an external USB drive formatted as FAT for this.
    1) In OSX, start the Bootcamp Assistant
    2) Press Next
    3) UNTICK 'Remove WIndows 7 or Later Version'
    4) TICK Download the Latest Windows Support Software from Apple
    5) Insert USB drive
    6) Press CONTINUE
The drivers should download, and copy a WIndowsSupport folder onto the USB drive.
I did notice that Windows 8 still requires beta drivers for some aspects such as VGA (the Radio HD Card), which you can get on the AMD website.
Futhermore, why are you using Windows 8 "32" bit when you blatently have a powerful 64bit?
Anyway, hope this post helps ;-)

  • How to install Windows XP in parallel with Mac OS on a Macbook?

Can anyone tell me how to install Windows XP in parallel with Mac OS on a Macbook?
If I divide the hard drive into 2 patritions and install Win XP & Mac OS on each patrition, is it ok?

I don't think he meant "Parallels", I think he just meant "parallel", with a little 'p'.
There are three options for running Windows software on an Intel-based Mac:
Virtualization: you can install software such as Parallels or VMWare (along with a licensed copy of Windows) which will emulate the environment necessary to run Windows software. Performance is significantly degraded, but you can work with both Windows and Mac software simultaneously.
Dual boot: You can use Apple's Bootcamp to partition your drive and create a CD of Windows drivers for your devices, so that you can then install Windows on one partition of your drive. Your Windows software will run just as it does on any other Windows PC, but you have to reboot to switch between Windows and OS X.
Crossover: Crossover is a product that allows you to run Windows programs in OS X without installing Windows. Not all Windows software will work with Crossover though.

  • Dual Boot : Installing Windows XP on a Power Mac G5?

I am trying to figure out if it is possible to install Windows XP on a Power Mac G5? There are several Massive Multiplayer games that are only available for Windows/PC users. I need to have access to OSX also it is what I use for everything else. I saw Boot Camp -but it is only available for Intel Macs. It seems like there should be a way to partition the hard drive and upon startup to be able to select the disk I want to start up on. I did add a 500 GB internal drive that I can use as a second hard drive. [So I have two : one is a 180 and the other is a 500.] If I install Windows on one side of the 500 GB hard drive I am afraid I wouldn't be able to switch back to OSX.? Anyway I love Macs and I am not interested or able to buy a PC and I don't have the money to buy a new mac or Virtual PC software.? Any suggestions would be awesome?

VPC's CPU emulation speed depends on the speed of the Mac CPU being used. That being said, on my G5 Quad @ 2.5GHz, VPC reports a 533 MHz "686" CPU. Video memory is limited to 16 MB.
I have not seen performance to be anywhere near as bad as you've experienced. It's definitely laggy, but any delays are at most a few seconds. I have all the WinXP eye candy disabled to speed up the interface as much as possible.
In any event, the OP won't be able to use it for games as it lacks 3D acceleration (even if it were otherwise fast enough). I had tried to run the original Grand Theft Auto game (2D), but even that was too slow to be playable let alone a modern game. GTA 2 refused to run due to the aformentioned lack of a 3D accelerator card.
MS will no longer be producing VPC now that all Macs are Intel-based. There's really no more market for it now.

  • Install Windows 8.1 Pro on Mac Mini Late 2014

I'm trying to install Bootcamp on my Mac Mini.  Windows reports that it cannot install or create a partition on the drive after formatting the BOOTCAMP partition as NTFS.
    This is my setup:
    1. Mac Mini Late 2014 with 2TB Fusion Drive.
    2. Windows 8.1 Pro x64 full version ISO downloaded from Microsoft Store.
    3. Sandisk Extreme Flash Drive (I have tried both 16GB and 64GB).
    4. Bootcamp partition = 500GB.
    5. Other USB devices plugged in: Corded USB Mouse and Apple Extended Keyboard (both of which are required to enter the serial number and navigate the installer window).
    6. No additional storage devices of any kind are connected aside from the internal Fusion drive and the installer drive.
    7. Booting from the EFI portion of the Bootcamp created Windows installer.
I have read that I should try using a USB 2 flash drive rather than a USB 3 flash drive, so I will try that next.  I fail to understand how this could make any difference.
If you have any other tips, please let me know.
I have installed or helped other people install bootcamp many times over the course of the past 2 years.  Every single time it has caused endless headaches and literally weeks of wasted time.
I have read endless posts on what is causing these problems.  I will consider summarising these for anyone else having the same problems.  Everyone has their theory so far about this Bootcamp nightmare, but so far there doesn't appear to be any one magic solution.
Apple's inability to address the issue suggests that the problem may be with the Windows installer.  Perhaps Microsoft is deliberately causing this?
I suspect the two most likely causes of these issues are the downloaded ISO or the Thumb Drive.
If you have any better idea, please let me know.
On another topic, how to I rename the NTFS partition back to BOOTCAMP?  All options to rename this partition are greyed out in Disk Utility...
    Cheers,
    Paul

The FAT32/NTFS partition is usually not adequate for an EFI install. You can delete the BCA-created partition and create a Disk Utility partition which is formatted as Free Space. This will be split into an MSR and MSD. Fusion drives create problems, especially if the BC partition lies outside the traditional MBR 2TB boundary.
Before you delete the BCA-created partition, please post the output of
    diskutil list
    diskutil cs list
sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0
sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk1

Windows installers up to W8.1 do not have USB3 drivers. These are installed after Windows is installed and BC drivers are in place.

The requirements are pretty strict when installing Windows. Any deviations cause headaches and grief.
I suspect the two most likely causes of these issues are the downloaded ISO or the Thumb Drive.
The USB is usually the issue.
On another topic, how to I rename the NTFS partition back to BOOTCAMP?  All options to rename this partition are greyed out in Disk Utility...
After Windows is fully installed and BC drivers are in place, log into Windows, right click on it and rename it on the Windows side. It cannot be renamed on the OSX side with diskutil renameVolume. Here is an example sequence. You cannot rename volume during the installation process.

  • How do I install Windows 8 on Mountain Lion (mac mini) 2010 Server using bootcamp with out Optical Drive?

I have a 2010 Mac Mini server running 10.8.4 (12E55).  I just bought a brand new copy of Windows 8 from micrsoft.  I have tried using boot camp and it will not recognize a burned DVD in my remote optical drive on my laptop running windows 7 or my macbook running Lion 10.7.5.   I have had Microsoft on both of my computers remoted in for about 8 hours and they tried just about everything that I've tried.
Microsofts tech support has made me a bootable DVD and a bootable Flash Drive through remote desktop (awsome good job microsoft tech support).  I have even tried formatting my mac mini's second 500GB hard drive to FAT32 using this whole disc as my windows partition.  I know that when I go to install windows 8 it is going to reformat the drive to NTFS but all the articles that I've found, say this is what you have to do to get the drive formatted properly to get the ball rolling and get windows will fix it when it goes to install by reformatting to NTFS.
Ok so right now I have my second 500GB hdd on my mac mini formatted to FAT32 and I have tried to reboot holding my option key like I do on my mac book.  If I want to boot to a different hdd on my macbook all I do is hold the OPTION key during start up and you get prompted to choose one of the bootable disc that is on your computer.  Well if I put my USB drive which is bootable on my macbook into my macbook and do this right now its not showing up.
Now I just put the DVD that they made me in my macbook and it shows up as bootable disc.  But the USB doesn't.  (1 hour later)  I just got microsft to remake the USB drive and am going to try that again so ta ta for now and I'll come back on to post to tell you if it works.

Parallels, Fusion, and VirtualBox are available from their respective sites. Read their installation instructions which explain how to install Windows.

  • To install windows 8 or 7 on mac pro (10.9.5)

    Hi
I'd like to install windows 7 or 8 on my macbook pro(10.9.5).I tried reading how to do that but there's no success could anyone tell in detail how to do that?

    Howdy rbannaii,
It sounds like you are wanting to install either Windows 7 or 8 on your Mac.  Since I do not know specifically what resource you were using before, I would recommend the information in the following link to help you get Windows installed using Boot Camp:
Boot Camp Help: Install Windows on your Mac
Here are the initial system requirements and preparations that need to be made, and once everything is verified, click the link and follow the instructions in there:
    Install Windows on your Mac
With Boot Camp, you can use Windows 7 or 8, or OS X on your Mac.
To use Boot Camp, you need the keyboard and mouse or trackpad that came with your Mac. (If they aren’t available, use a USB keyboard and mouse.)
To install Windows using an installation disc you need the following:
A built-in disc drive or a compatible external optical drive. For information about using your Mac with an external optical drive, see the documentation that came with your Mac.
An installation disc with the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro, Windows 8.1, or Windows 8.1 Pro.You must use a single full-install Windows installation disc. You cannot use an upgrade version of Windows.
An external USB drive formatted as MS-DOS (FAT).After you install Windows, you need to install support software that lets Windows work with your Mac hardware. You can download the support software to an external USB drive. To format an external USB drive as MS-DOS (FAT), use Disk Utility, located in the Other folder in Launchpad.
You may be able to install Windows using an external USB drive that contains a Windows ISO image (a disk image that contains the entire contents of a DVD) downloaded from Microsoft and Windows support software. To find out if you can install Windows using a USB drive, open Boot Camp Assistant, click Continue, then see if the option “Create a Windows 7 or later install disk” is available.
To install Windows using an external USB drive you need the following:
An ISO image of the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro, Windows 8.1, or Windows 8.1 Pro downloaded to your Mac.
An external USB drive that is 8 GB or larger.Boot Camp Assistant erases the external drive and copies the Windows ISO image and support software to it.
If you need help determining the best size for your Windows partition, refer to your Windows installer documentation. For Windows 8, create a partition that is at least 30 GB.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • How to install Windows 8.1 on Haswell Mac?

Just bought the 15" Haswell Macbook Pro Retina and I'm trying to install Windows 8.1. I'm relatively new to Mac so the instructions that I found didn't really make sense to me and seemed like they were skipping steps. My school gave me the downloadable Windows 8.1 for Mac Version that says it has to be used with an external USB. Here's the steps I've followed leading up to my problem in the best way I can explain them.
    1. Downloaded this file: English_windows_8_1_professional_upgrade_w64
    2. Plugged in 8gb flash drive
    3. Started boot camp assistant
    4. Clicked 'Create a Windows 7 or later version install disk'
    5. Chose this for ISO img: /Users/.../Documents/English_windows_8_1_professional_upgrade_w64/English_windo ws_8_1_professional_upgrade_w64.img
    6. Says it's formatting drive
    7. Prompted with this: Your bootable USB drive could not be created
Any insight on what's going on? I have a feeling it's because it's an upgrade? But what does that have to do with the USB drive? I've used 3 different flash drives and get the same message every time.
Also, I did do all the updates on the computer immediately upon opening it. Talked to some tech people and they said the update made it so that you don't need windows 7 first? I don't know...

After 3 hours I've successfully installed windows 8.1. Everything seems to be working fine but I'm too tired to try running any programs on it yet. I basically ran into most of the problems that I read about on the forums. Here's what I did since running into the problem listed.
One thing to take note of that I noticed a lot of people did because I've seen it in some install guides was to use two separate USB drives. One for the drive files and one for the ISO. I DID NOT follow those directions. I noticed many people had some sort of blank screen if they did or something like that so I'm assuming what I did bypassed that problem. So put everything on one USB. Mine was an 8gb toshiba nothing special.
    8. After getting that prompt I logged out (making sure to uncheck the option to open any applications back up)
    9. Logged in and restarted boot camp.
    10. Let the program do it's thing clicking continue etc along the way.
    11. As the computer restarts hold the Option key.
    12. Now here's where things messed up for me again. I went to the windows boot and continued through putting in the key etc. when asked to choose which partition all of them were GPT servers. Honestly I have no idea what that means. I tried formatting as the option was highlighted but still didn't work.
    13. Restart the computer, again holding the option key. This time load the EFI drive.
    14. Resolution was different and everything was tiny but it's all the same thing that was just done before. When prompted for the partition I chose 4* or bootcamp and then everything installed successfully.
That's all I can think of so far instructions wise and hopefully this works for others who haven't found any solutions! I'm not super techy just did a lot of trial and error and determination.
