  • How to install Windows Server 2008 (dualboot) on a PC with Windows 8.1 already on it?

Hi, I bought a new PC with preinstalled Windows 8. Now I need to install Windows Server 2008. Anyone can advise me how to
do it? It has to be in dual boot, in Virtual Machine the display is way too small

You should check out the Boot-to-VHD capability.
Here is how we do it in a lab environment which we got from a Microsoft lab:
-Verify your computer is running Windows 7 or later.
-Verify you have full administrator rights to your currently installed operating system.
-Verify hard disk encryption or other pre-boot security is turned off.
-Confirm that hardware virtualization technology and memory protection are both enabled in your computer's BIOS setup.
Now we just setup the a VHD with an operating system on it (can even use a downloaded server 180 day trial VHD if you are in a rush). Then go to Disk Management and select Attach VHD and point to the file. Note the drive letter that is assigned to the
    mounted VHD.
Run a command prompt as administrator and type: " bcdedit /export BCDBackup.bak " to create an exported backup of your boot loader configuration. Now type bcdboot [drive]:\windows.
Now to test your dual-boot configuration, restart your computer and select the new OS boot option.
An optional last step would be when complete to restore your boot loader by running "bcdedit /import BCDBackup.bak" and delete any VHD files.
A more detailed guide written for Windows 7 but still applies for Windows 8 can be found at:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/video/windows-7-boot-from-vhd.aspx
    Hope that helps.

  • Help, I installed Windows Server 2008

Please advise me on what to do. I installed Windows Server 2008 on my laptop for networking class. This past summer I had upgraded it from Windows Vista to Windows 8 then 8.1. I want to take Windows Server 2008 off, but I cannot seem to get my windows
8 to work. When the computer is in command screen mode I have to option to start in Windows Server 2008, or Windows 8. But Windows 8 will not come up, I get an error stating a file is missing. I cannot seem to connect to the internet IN Windows Server 2008
    either . Help!!!!

Okay this is what you need for a basic setup.
    Servers:
1 main host server - install Hyper-V role on this
    2. 1 guest server to act as a domain controller - also install remote desktop licensing role on this server
    3. 1 remote desktop session host server that you install your applications on
join the remote desktop server to the domain
leave your hyper-v host server off the domain in a workgroup
install applications on remote desktop session host server
install remote desktop licences on the license server - role that you have installed on your domain controller
configure any settings - including the licence server to use - on the remote desktop session host
users connect to remote desktop server using RDP client on their computers
NB: this is the minimum setup you could use

  • Installing Windows Server 2008 on Sun Ultra 24

I have a Sun Ultra 24 that I previously had Windows Server 2003 64 bit installed and working fine.
I am going through the process to install Windows Server 2008 R2 64 bit, and it is failing at the last step of completing the install, saying that windows failed to install components.
Prior to installing, I loaded the drivers for Intel ICH9 SATA AHCI Controller from my Drivers and Tools 1.4 disk and formatted the drive that was previously used. I am not attempting to install RAID and there are no additional hardware components in my system.

when restaring the windows after that it give me the below message in the attached image from the KVM consol

  • Client can not connect to Server installed window server 2008 and using 8.8

    HI all!
I have a problem when Client  log in to server that installed window server 2008.It can not connect to this server even when restart and key in IP or Server name,...
I try disable Firewall of window 2008 in server machine and client can connect to server. But when i disable firewall, it's mean  i can not use Remote desktop or terminal service..
Now, how i can do in order to solve this problem.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Take a look at the admin guide (Page 75, 119, 159):
If you installed a firewall on the license service computer, make sure that the firewall is not set to port 30000; otherwise, the license service cannot work.
If you are using Port X, make sure that you open Port X and Port (X+1) in the firewall. For example, if you are using port 10000, make sure to also open port 10001.
The default communication port is 1143.
The default port of the SAP Business One license server is 30000 for license communication and 30001 for the license naming service

  • When am trying to install Windows server 2008 OS. Error msg was coming 0x80070070:"not having enough space for installation"..Even though i have 20GB space?..Pls resolve this issue earliest.

    Hi Guys
I have an issue please help on that earliest.
When am trying to install Windows server 2008 OS. Error msg was coming 0x80070070:"not having enough space for installation"..Even though i have 20GB space?..Pls resolve this issue immediately.
    Regards,
    Shiv

Is this a clean install or an upgrade?  20 GB, though greater than the minimum, is pretty minimal.  How much memory do you have on the system?  2008 would try to create a page file of 1.5x physical memory, so if you are building on a large
memory system, you could be having an issue there.
    "Pls resolve this issue immediately"

  • Problem installing Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 Multilingual User Interface Language Packs

I downloaded Windows6.1-KB2483139-x64-en-US.exe but when I ran it on my Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 (as Administrator) it does not run properly.  I noticed it created a new cabinet file named "lp" briefly, then deleted it.  Nothing else
    appears on the screen.
My goal is to install Chinese display fonts on my server.  Please help.

    Hi,
First of all, if you want Chinese display language, you need to choose chinese in the drop down list on the download page. Here's a direct link in case you need it.
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=2634(chinese simplified...)
Windows6.1-KB2483139-x64-zh-CN.exe is the file name for the Chinese simplified language pack.
    1. The exefile extracts the file cabinet lp.cab which is the file you need to import the language pack.
    2. Start lpksetup.exe and Point out the cab-file you just extracted.
If you want to do it with cmdline, you can do it with dism in an elevated command prompt as well:
    Dism /online /Add-Package /PackagePath:C:\test\lp.cab
Note that you still need to create a policy or change default language in some way for your users.

  • Cannnot use 3TB hard drive to install Windows Server 2008 R2

I am trying to install Windows 2008 R2 on a server with a 3TB HDD, but I can only create a 2TB partition on the hard drive, leaving around 800GB which I cannot even access. I can install Windows on the 2TB partition, but even after installation, I cannot
physically access the remaining 800GB. When I right click on the 800GB unallocated partition in Storage\Disk Manager, I have no options to create a new partition. If I right-click on the existing 2TB partition, I have no option to extend it using the remaining
    800GB.
    Motherboard details:
    Asus Veriton S460
    Product Name: EG31M
    System BIOS: R01-C2
    BIOS Release Date: 11/27/08
Can I do anything to use the remaining 800GB?
    Thanks.

    Known Issues/Limitations
Because the transition to a single-disk capacity of greater than 2 TB has occurred fairly recently, Microsoft has investigated how
Windows supports these large disks. The results reveal several issues that apply to all versions of Windows earlier than and including Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 with Service Pack 1.
To this point, the following incorrect behavior is known to occur when Windows handles single-disk storage capacity of greater than 2 TB:
The numeric capacity beyond 2 TB overflows. This results in the system being able to address only the capacity beyond 2 TB. For example, on a 3 TB disk, the available capacity may be only 1 TB.
The numeric capacity beyond 2 TB is truncated. This results in no more than 2 TB of addressable space. For example, on a 3 TB disk, the available capacity may be only 2 TB.
The storage device is not detected correctly. In this case, it is not displayed in either the Device Manager or Disk Management windows.
Many storage controller manufacturers offer updated drivers that provide support for storage capacities of more than 2 TB. Contact your
storage controller manufacturer or OEM to determine what downloadable support is available for single-disk capacities that are greater than 2 TB.

  • Can I install Windows Server 2008 R2 using Bootcamp? I do not want to install native, but may consider if that is the only way....

I already have Win 7 on an internal Bootcamp drive. It so far has worked well, Bootcamp performance drag is minimal, if at all. Now I want to install Win Server 2008 R2 and load a bunch of virtuals using Hyper-V Manager. The virtuals are already created. This is to practice for a certification test....
Running Mountain Lion, 2010 MP 2 X 2.4 (8 core) 24 GB RAM, all HDD slots full.

Works like a charm. Apple Supports says you can have multiple instances of Bootcamp. Win Server 2008 R2 is up and running, drivers installed (except issues with Bluetooth) and accepting Windows Updates and Service Packs.

  • How to get CAL license type from installed window server 2008 r2

    Hi,
we have domain controllers which is installed with windows server 2008 r2 datacenter. now we need get the cal information of that servers like whether its per device or per user. can I get the information from an installed server. any scripts?
    Thanks, Venkatesh. "Hardwork Never Fails"

    Hi Venkatesh,
As Diramoh suggested, we do not need to install CAL in Windows Servers unless it is RDS CALs. You can put the document into your administration papers.
However, if you need further assistance about license, it is recommended to visit the Volume Licensing Microsoft Licensing Center.
