Installing Windows using a different computers install disk

I am trying to install Windows using bootcamp. It says I need "
A Mac OS X Leopard installation disk, which can be either of the following:
Â
a Mac OS X Leopard disc (included with all purchased copies of Leopard)
Â
a Mac OS X Install Disc 1 (included with all Macs that have Leopard preinstalled) "
I am out of town and do not have either disc, but my Dad who has the macbook Pro (I just have the Macbook) has his original install disk. Could I use that disk?

No. Try Virtualbox by Oracle. No Mac installer disk needed, just a Windows installer disk that meets your 32bit/64 bit compatibility.

  • Is it possible to use boot camp to install windows xp from only an update disk?

    Hello,
I have recently come across some of my old windows applications and an update disk for windows xp sp1. All I have is the update disk and I partitioned my drive and booted into the CD. Whenever I got through some of the processes of the initial install it said that I had an update disk and prompted me to first install an earlier version of windows (in this case I do not own one). Is there anyway that I could bypass this part of setup and install windows using this disk (like I have on PCs with no operating system installed) or do I need to go out and purchase a copy. If there is anyway that you could help it would be appreciated very much because the way the economy is these days I would like to save a couple bucks here or there. Especially putting money to a company like Microsoft....it wouldn't suit my fancy. :D

Ok, so officially, you have to install it on your Mac's internal drive. Good, thanks for clearing that up.
I guess the only simple alternative to installing Windows on your Mac's internal drive is to buy another Mac, and install it on there instead I mean, you could have a Mac Mini or a MacBook, and have that running Windows under Boot Camp.

  • How do I install windows using BootCamp without cd drive fot the new MBP?

I need some softwares for my work (modelsim, altera, ltspices etc) but some of them only supports windows.
New MBP doesnt seem to have a cd driver.
How do I install windows using bootcamp without cd drivers?

You can use a USB thumbdrive to do this, assuming you have access to a windows machine to format the usb stick.
I installed Win7 on my MB Air (2011), which of course lacks a DVD drive altogether, using this technique.
Basically, you download a tool called rEFIt to your macbook. ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/refit/files/rEFIt/0.14/rEFIt-0.14.dmg/download ) When this is installed, it gives you a boot selector menu when you boot the Macbook ('Do you want to boot to MacOS or to the USB drive?')
Then you download and run an Apple tool called Boot Camp Assistant, which allows you to partition your HD for the two operating systems to share; it also pulls down all the windows drivers you need.
Then prep the USB thumbdrive on a windows machine to be a Win7 installer disk. You'll want a drive in the 4gb+ range I think. You have to set up the thumbdrive to be bootable (lots of tools for that available), and then copy all the windows installation files over to it.
Put the thumbdrive in the macbook and boot holding down the option key.
Choose the rEFIt icon on boot, then choose to boot from the thumbdrive, then format your new windows partition to something Win7 can handle, and install windows.
On my machine I followed a slightly more involved process and wiped out MacOS entirely. I would have kept it on a small partition if I'd had a bigger hard drive.

I was trying to install windows using boot amp but now I can't boot my MacBook  pro again

Go to the Windows Control Panel and select Boot Camp applet. In that applet there is a Boot Drive option. Select Mac OS X.
Or restart the system and hold down the Option key for a few second. A Boot Menu screen will come up. Select Macintosh HD.
Once in OS X go to the Sys Prefences, Startup Disk and select Macintosh HD Mt Lion 10.8.2 and click Restart then Restart again. the system will now restart in Mac OS X.
To boot back to Windows do the same, Startup Disk, and select Windows then Restart and Restart again.

Hello, I d like to buy Lightroom but first I want to know if this is possible to install it on two different computers? If not, what happen if I change my computer. Thks for your help.

The standard licence covers installation on any two computers - one being in use at any time.
If you change computers, simply uninstall from the old machine and install on the new - Lightroom doesn't use "dial home" activation and deactivation.

  • Can I install Windows 7 with Bootcamp without a disk

I purchased Windows 7 Home Premium when I also purchased Parallels 7.  My main objective was to use the Windows partition for games that Mac doesn't have (Everquest II for example).  I had no trouble installing Windows with Parallels but the games I want to play work very poorly on the virtual machine.  Is there any way that I can junk Parallels and install Windows using Bootcamp?  Note:  Windows was downloaded from the Parallels web site.  I am using a MacBook Pro with Lion, early 2011, Intel 2.2 GHz i7 processor with 4 GB memory.  Another 4GB memory is in the mail but hasn't arrived yet.  All software is up to date.  Another question.  Would upgrading to Mountain Lion solve the problem?  Please, if there is anyone who knows the answer, give me instructions on how to ditch Parallels for Bootcamp.  Thanks.

You can install Windows in BootCamp (it will be a fresh installation) and you can remove the existing VM installation. Windows will run faster in Boot Camp than it will in a VM (parallels is a VM).
Please note that MacBook Pro's have 2 ram slots, and they will both be occupied with a 2G chip in a standard configuraton, there will be nowhere to install the other 4G that is in the mail. Return it and order 2 x 4G chips and remove the 2 x 2G chips already fitted.

Re: can i install windows for pc on my mac or do i need the windows for mac?

There is no Lion DVD. Start Boot Camp Assistant and select the menu item to download the Windows Support Software.
Read and follow the Boot Camp Installation Guide. http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.7.pdf

  • Any way to install Windows 7 by copying the install disk to a HD first?

Any way to install Windows 7 by copying the install disk to a HD first?
I have HDs installed in my optical bays.
I can copy the Win 7 install disk to a new freshly formatted HD if needed.
I am unable to install from my Firewire DVD.
    It will not work.
I have a NTFS partition ready to go on an internal drive.
If there is a way to do this I would appreciate any help.
I really do not want to put my DVD back in if it can be avoided.
    Thanks ... Ken

I've done an install off a hard drive, but I was already running Windows on a separate drive partition.
People have put DVD on flash memory, though that is 'maybe' and depends on booting from USB devices.
I routinely put OS X Install DVD on a firewire hard drive and installs quickly (to say nothing of booting in under 60 sec).

  • If I use a USB stick for time machine, will I be able to install Windows (using bootcamp) from the same USB?

I have a 64GB USB Stick, and I am interested in usign it with time machine. My question is, firstly, is this possible? And secondly, if I do do this, would it be possible to install windows using bootcamp from the same USB. My mother refuses to let me install windows without a backup of Mac OS X, so I really need to know if this is possible???

You need to use a drive that is larger than your Mac's internal drive for Time Machine, so a USB stick will not work.  You need to buy an external hard drive.  It's worth it. Time machine is a fantastic backup system, keeping not just a single backup, but multiple versions of your files as well (hence the need for a larger drive).

    What DVDs are this ?
If it is OSX Snow Leopard Installation DVD then yes this disc contains the BootCamp Drivers version 3.x and is needed after the installation of Windows to install the BootCamp Drivers.
With OSX Lion BootCamp is at version 4.x and the BootCamp Drivers have to be downloaded during use of the BootCamp Assistant in OSX.

  • Can I sync apps to my ipad using two different computers + itunes

    Hey guys,
I'm having a bit of a problem. I have two computers (windows laptop + windows pc) which I use both for buying apps (my ipad isn't always connected to our internet), recently I bought an app on my pc and then when syncing it asked for me to 'Erase and sync'. So I did this and the app installed fine, but all my other apps were reset.
Is it possible to use two different computers to buy apps and sync with my ipad without having to erase and sync?

    Thanks for your reply,
Im a bit disapointed with this though, seems sort of impratical.. I dunno what to do now, what computer to stick with :/
