Installing Windows with system disk from Viao?

I already had my doubts about this but wanted to confirm:
You cannot install windows with the system disk from a Viao, Dell,
Hewlett Packard, etc...??? You must have the plain Windows disks, correct?

Hi,
since most of the Windows Discs that are bundled with a PC are not full versions, but merely 'restore' discs, they simply won't work.
Apart from that these Windows Licenses are tied to the computer with which they were bought, so that from the legal point you are not able to 'Activate' them again.
Sorry

  • Windows 7 System Disk from W500 to W520 -- will it boot?

    Hi All,
I have had a painfull time getting everthing "just right" on a W500.   I have a good stable Windows 7 fully patched image, and dont want to rebuild/reinstall on a W520 that I have to move to soon.
Has anyone attempted to boot a W500 Windows 7 System Disk on a W520?  Does it work, or BSOD or Freeze?      I dont mind doing some driver tweaking....to make this work.   I would not like to reinstall my apps and get personalizations setup again from scratch.
Thanks for any help or pointers.
    Jim

In case anyone see's this post, since nobody else replied -- here is all you need to do --  it worked for me perfectly.
    1) Create clone of original W500 Win7 Enterprise Boot Disk  (I always have one anyways)
    2) Insert disk in to W520, and boot from it
    3) OS will fail to boot (verify this), and suggest doing a Repair from Original Windows Media
    4) Keep install disk in W520, insert Win7 Original Media into CD/DVD Rom and boot from that
    5) After giving localization --  click on Repair the Windows Installation.        Windows will look for and find valid Window installation and attempt to fix it.   The "fixing" process literally took about 1 second!
    6) After fixing it, windows will boot....but all the drivers will be wrong/messed up -- no worries (it will be in VGA mode).
    7) Run Windows Update and let it do what can.....it will load lots of things...and ask for several reboots.  Keep running until nothing is left that is needed.
    8) Make Sure Lenovo ThinkVantages Tools is loaded....and run a scan....it will pick up all the things that are missing for the W520 Laptop.
    9) Windows 7 will insist on re-activation.....after these hardware changes...so you will need to do that too.    Just go into properties on the My Computer icon, and scroll down to the activate area (assuming you have a valid KMS server), otherwise you may need to call it in or use our keys.
Whole process (not including cloning the original disk), took only about 45min ....and went smoothly.   It saved me hours of painstaking reinstallation and customization. Windows7 has greatly improved for ability to move boot disks......much quicker than in XP

The Mac SuperDrive built into your Mac is the Optical drive.
    1. Insert your Windows DVD in Optical drive. Disconnect any external storage.
    2. Insert a USB2 Flash drive. This will be used to hold the BC drivers.
    3. Start BCA. Check the options to download software and Install Windows. You do not need to download Windows. The BCA will download the BC drivers to the USB.
    4. Partition your drive.

  • Installing Windows 7 System Builder w/External Disc Drive?

I'm looking to buy Windows 7 so that I can install it on my Mac Mini (using Boot Camp) and I'm looking to buy this:
    http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-SE-506BB-TSBD-External-Blu-ray/dp/B00AO1XFM0/ref=s r_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1399919388&sr=8-1&keywords=samsung+external+bluray+mac
I'm wondering if the drive in the link above is able to install Windows 7 System Builder? I know there are a lot of threads and posts stating that install Windows 7 on a Mac isn't possible with an external optical disc drive. I want to install Windows 7 System Builder on my Mac Mini, but I don't know what I need to install it before I buy the Win7 System Builder install disc. Please help me. Thanks!

Hi, I'm not sure what system builder is, but I believe Win 7 can be installed from an external drive or even a Flash Drive.
I wonder if you might get a better answer over here...

I tried tonnes of method already, and the apple guide method absolutely doesn't work for MacBook Air, 10.9.1
Did you even tried it yourself????!! with Maverick 10.9.1 you will NOT be able to get pass the bootcamp first page:"install window 7". It will give an error msg saying "The installer disc could not be found"
My usb confirmed bootable! I created it with bootcamp, and tested it on a different macbook and it works. But doesn't work on MacBook Air. (Even startup disk doesn't detect it as bootable in Air)
anyone else has a real solution to this problem?
Thousands have successfully tried it themselves and installed Windows on a Macbook Air. Perhaps if you provided some details about what you did and what errors you observed we could help you. The Boot Camp instaructions, if followed, will produce a successful install.

do you mean Addition, or Edition? Is it a 32-bit version of Windows 7, or a 64-bit version of Windows 7?
Why don’t you give it a try, and report back on whether you’re able to or not?

Windows concerns are in Windows, OS X in OS X. They do not co-exist because only one system is operational at a time.
Office 2011 is the OS X version of the suite. Look for it here.

  • New windows 8 recovery disks from HP installed but won't work

I installed a new hard drive in a friends Dell G6-2249WM. She didn't make recovery disks so I ordered them from HP.
They seem to install fine, I click "Finish" and the notebook shuts down. When I start it I get:
    Boot device not found
Please install an operating system on your hard disk
    Hard disk (3F0)
    F2  System diagonstics
    for information, please visit: www.hp.com\go\techcenter\startup
I've run Hard drive diagonstics, it passes.
I've reset the bios to default.
I've hit Esc at start up, then hit F11 - the notebook then just goes back to the above "Boot device not found" screen.
I've removed all formating on the drive (on another computer). Reinstalled the Recovery disks and still have the same problem.
I received 3 Windows 8 Recovery disks and 1 Application and Recovery DVD from HP.

Sorry, your right, the one I'm working on is a HP G6-2249WM. MY laptop is a Dell. I did reseat the drive after the first install try. The hard drive test says it passes. I just tryed reinstalling the disks without the 4th "Application and driver disk".  still didn't work. It formats and loads all the files on the disks but then won't start the recovery after shut down.  I took the drive out and connected it to my desk top computer. I has 2 partitions, one with 18.9 gb with one boot.sdi, one boot.wim a seperate RM folder containing several base.swm files and one bild.wim file. The other partition is empty. Is there a way to force the recovery partition to unpack and start?

  • Replaced Hp with new hard drive but now i cannot install windows 7 recovery disks

Ok, so my laptop is a hp pavilion dv4-2165dx that has a broken screen and sometime after best buy tried to fix it the hard disk blew. I bought a new hard disk and put it in the computer and i got the official recovery and installation disks for windows 7. The hard drive is recognized by the computer and does start the recovery manager but it gets to 1% and does not go further. I let it run all night and the next morning it said that the cd failed. Did it fail because i have to connect an hdmi cord to my lg tv to see anything? Or was it because of something else?
I researched and found that with a new hard drive i will have to partition it and then format it to work with windows 7.
My question is, if the computer doesnt boot or let me use windows how can i partition and format the new hard disk? I have an older hp laptop as well that works efficiently in regard to its age (7) yrs. i wonder if i can buy a usb to sata/ide cord and attach the new disk to my old laptop and partition/format it there? Idk

Hello CaptianNike, welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you're trying to install Windows 7 on a replacement hard drive. I will try to assist you with this.
You definitely could use another computer to format and partition the drive. I'm not certain about the cables you've mentioned though (looked with goolgle and you can get usb to sata cables). If the computer is a desktop you should be able to connect it internally to just do the format/partition.
If the recovery disks worked correctly, then you should have the option to do the format and partition via Windows. This could be an indication as well that there's an issue with the disks.
Which leaves you with the option of obtaining another set of disks to try, or trying to partition first then installing. The easier would be the latter.
    I hope this helps.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.
I worked on behalf of HP.

  • Is there a way to install Windows (with programs) on an external drive and run it from the Pro?

I have a 1TB Seagate Goflex that I am using to backup the Mac, but I want to partition it and run Windows and Windows Apps from it, rather than risk my HDD.  Does anyone have any experience doing that or have any ideas on how it might be done?  I am willing to risk the Seagate external drive, but not the laptop.

    Bob,
you could put a virtualizer such as VirtualBox or Parallels Desktop on the external drive, and install Windows and Windows apps in the virtualizer.

  • How can I install windows 7 in bootcamp from the install CD using superdrive

    Hey Guys.
I'm a pilot and want to use flight simulator X which is a windows only program. So what I want to do is use bootcamp but when I go into bootcamp assitant I cant partion or install windows from the install CD its asking for a ISO file the following error occurs. "There is no USB drive connected to the system. Please insert a USB drive to continue " but the thing is I dont want to install from USB I want to install from USB Super Drive with the Installation Disk
    Thanks

Make sure that the option to create a USB installation drive is unticked. Also, Boot Camp Assistant allows you to download the Windows support software onto a USB drive, that you will need after installing Windows to make the computer run correctly. You should do that.
Apart from that, you should be able to continue with the Windows installation. Follow the Apple's steps > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf

  • Install EBS on local disk from remote win 2003? Can't pass file space check

    I have a portable 250G hard disk on my poor performance win xp,I want to install EBS 12 on my portable hard disk,but I xp system's performance is poor,so I connect to a fine performance win 2003 through mstsc and I can access my 250G hard disk from remote computer win 2003;
But when I indecate to use remote hard disk "\\tsclient\M\ebs" as my base directory,I meet some err log like below:
RW-20012: Error: - Free disk space on system returns zero:
probable cause - mount point does not exist.
RW-20013: Error: - Not enough free disk space on system:
    Database ORACLE_HOME = \\tsclient\M\ebs\db\tech_st\10.2.0
    required = 3280.0
    actual = 0.0
    If I choose local disk as my base directory ,It pass the file space check;
Can anyone meet such problem? Please help me ,thanks in advance!

Instead of using "\\tsclient\M\ebs\db\tech_st\10.2.0" as a directory path, map this network drive as any other free drive (i.e. F:\, G:\ .. etc). You should be able to proceed with the installation then.
If you need more details about mapping network drive, please refer to:

  • Installing windows with parallels

    Hey,
I wond to install windows on my mac with parallels buth when I put the windows installation cd in my mac and start the installation progress, the installation cd disappears out of the finder.
Can someone help me to resolve this please

I have VMWare Fusion and Oracle VirtualBox currently on my Mac, with a total of 10 different virtual machines. Never used Parallels Desktop, but the principles are similar.
You need to start Parallels up and locate a button or menu item for a New VM. It will start up a wizard that will ask you what kind of Windows you want to install and how much resources (CPU, RAM, hard disk space) you want to allocate to it. I believe that by default it will capture the CD/DVD device automatically.
Once the VM is created, it is like you created an imaginary computer for your Windows system. Now you have to install Windows on it. Put the Windows install media in the drive and start the VM on Parallels. It should "capture" the drive (the icon will disappear from the OS X desktop) and start running the installer on the VM. From thereon, it is a straightforward Windows installation. When finished, Parallels should offer to install the driver additions on Windows, so it will work and interact better with the Mac.
