Installing windows without the actual disk, but a .exe file
Hello all,
I am new to this forum and new to macs in general. I just got my Macbook over the weekend, and am still trying to learn all the differences from windows.
Anyway, I have obtained a free copy of windows XP software through the MSDN academic alliance, and the only way to get the software is to download a .exe file. However, when bootcamp runs, it asks for the installation disk to be inserted, so I am a little confused as to whether or not my executable file can be used.
I tried burning the file to a disk, and trying to use that disk as the windows installation disk, but that didn't work. My brother told me to make a proper disk, I need to use an app like Toast or something similar. Should I obtain this software and try burning another disk? Or is there another option I am not aware of?

Disk Utility will burn an .ISO just fine.

Yes, Toast etc or Nero are excellent but you may not need to, have to confess have never been faced with an .exe and of course you would need to run it on Windows of course. I download Vista 64-bit build but came in ISO format.

How to install windows without the cd drive?

I have a 2009 iMac that I want to install Windows 7 on. I have both a Windows 7 iso and a Windows 7 DVD. However, my cd drive is a mess, and upon trying to install Windows 7 from the DVD, the installation failed miserably 3 times at expanding windows files 0%. From there it just freezes for more than an hour and then gives me an error.
Now, my Bootcamp Assistant has an option to create a windows 7 install disk, but unfortunately it is greyed out.
My question to you guys: Is it possible to install Windows 7 on the iMac without using the cd drive?
I am using Lion, if that is helpful. Also, the Windows 7 DVD works fine, as I have already installed Windows on my 2011 iMac from it.
Thanks!I'm in a similar situation. Attending an online university and I need to use Access. But of course, Microsoft doesn't make a Mac version. I can get Windows through the university discount program, but only as a downloadable .iso file and a verification key. My drive works fine, I just don't have an actual CD/DVD to put in there.

Installing Windows without Leopard Disk
Just wondering if there was any way I could install windows without the leopard disk. I'm at work right now and was hoping to install windows vista but my leopard disk is at home.

If you have a copy of Windows Vista with you, you can use Boot Camp Assistant to create a Windows partition and install Vista on it. The only point is you cannot install the necessary drivers at this time since you do not have the Leopard DVD. -
Hi! I've got CS3 Design Standard - the actual disks and Software License certificate. It was installed on my laptop which crashed and could therefore not be uninstalled. I have now installed it on my new MacBook Pro, but cannot get it registered with the serial number. Is it because it wasn't uninstalled on the previous laptop? What to do now?? Thx!
Maybe this can help someone else... I simply had to properly uninstall CS3 and reinstall it again after that. I think that sorted it! I also remember having a similar issue with Macs at work a couple of years back. Not sure whether the same applies to CS5/CS6. However, the real issue is why the program is not working. Did you install anything recently?
When you tried to re-install from the disk, did you shut off the antivirus program temporarily?
Have you tried a system restore to a point in time when the program was working properly? -

This seems to be a commercial product. For the best chance at finding a solution I would suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support!

I tried installing Windows 7 using Boot Camp, but it didn't work.
Although it didn't work, the memory is still divided. So I looked for Boot Camp in aplications, but it literally vanished...
So I tried downloading it again, but I only found EXE files... they don't work on my MacBook Pro...
It's very new... Bought it recently...

How you remove Windows from your computer depends on whether you installed
Windows on a second disk partition or on a single-volume disk.
If you installed Windows on a second disk partition: Using Boot Camp Assistant as
described below, remove Windows by deleting the Windows partition and restoring
the disk to a single-partition Mac OS X volume.
If your computer has multiple disks and you installed Windows on a disk that has only one
partition: Start up in Mac OS X and use Disk Utility, in the Utilities folder, to reformat it
as a Mac OS X volume.
To delete Windows and the Windows partition:
1 Start up in Mac OS X.
2 Quit all open applications and log out any other users on your computer.
3 Open Boot Camp Assistant.
4 Select “Remove Windows 7,” and then click Continue.
5 Do one of the following:
a If your computer has a single internal disk, click Restore.
b If your computer has multiple internal disks, select the disk with Windows on it,
and then select “Restore to a single Mac OS partition” and click Continue. -

If you have a Mid 2010 model: Computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery. If later then see below:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
If you have an earlier model:
Clean Install of Snow Leopard
1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer. Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the "C" key. Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.) Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X. You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. -
I was installing windows 7 on my imac but the installation was not completed and now I cannot boot what shall I do?
Provided you used BootCamp to do the installation, with your machine off, press and hold down the "Option" key while turning it on. Hold the key down until you get the screen where you can select which OS to boot into. Select OS X (you'll need to physically click the button here... tapping won't work if you have it enabled). Once in OS X, go into System Preferences and Startup Disk. This is where you set the default OS to boot into. Change it to OS X. Relaunch BootCamp Assistant to remove the failed installation of Windows. You can try again if you wish.

Installing Programs Without The Disk Drive Icon Loading On Desktop

I am super anal and don't like any icons on my desktop and I am wondering how, when installing programs, you can install them without the disk drive icon being left on the desktop?
Thanks.Oh, right, sorry, one thing I didn't mention. I DO like to have CDs and DVDs and such show up on the desktop when I (seldomly) have them in my computer.
So, is there any other way? If I uncheck the CDs and DVDs line then this solves the disk drive icon but also gets rid of my CD icons. -
Do I have to buy Lion or snow lepoard or is there a way to updated from OS X 10.4.11?? I have a new ipod that will not work without the ne itunes, but the new itunes will not install without a newer vesion of Max OS X. Help please
Need to know your Mac model. If it's a PowerPC, the max OS is Leopard 10.5.x. If it's an Intel procesor, you can upgrade to Snow Leopard (for $29) & later to Lion.

How do I reactivate and install Adobe Acrobat on a new computer without the original disk?
I am moving to a new computer and the Acrobat disk I used to have got lost somewhere in the office environment... so, how do I deactivate Acrobat on my old computer and activate/install it ion my new computer without the original disk?
If you were using the same serial number then, yes. You are only allowed two installs and they should be on computers used by the licensee (you).
You would need to deactivate on any additional computers if this is the case.

Try using Firefox. Flash usually works on Firefox when it won't on Safari. I noticed that the Safari does not show the same version as Firefox does. Iwonder if that could be the problem. Safari on the left shows 10.1, Firefox show 10.3
