Installing windows xp on lion

Hello,
I have a 13" macbook pro 2011 with lion. I would like to install windows xp because I have a twidosoft program that is not compatable with windows 7, and according to the software company, it will never be compatable. I've tried windows 7 with the xp mode and virtual pc and it does not work. The program uses a usb cable that connects to a plc to communicate and edit or install new programs. I will partition 20-25 gigs for xp, software and the codes. I understand that Lion does not support xp but if I have to use parallels or vmware, by doing this will it let me use my usb cable to communicate with the plc.
I prefer to use bootcamp, I would only use the xp side to do this and the OS side for everything else.
Thank You for any help.

I have WIN XP and WIN 7 installed on my MBP with PARALLELS.
Both are working great even if I don't like them anymore.......
I can use all my old programs and all my accessories via USB.
When you try MAC OS yo can't switch bac to winzozz

  • Installing Windows XP on Lion using external DVD drive

Hi, this is my first time posting on a forum at all, so just keep that in mind when dealing with me.
I have recently attempted to install Windows XP by partitioning my drive using the disk utility (seeing as Bootcamp no longer supports Windows XP installations). The problems start when I boot from the installation disk; an error "no bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key" occurs. I am inclined to believe that this is due to me using an external DVD drive when doing all of this. I am using an external DVD drive because my internal DVD drive has been spoilt and is no longer useable.
Does anyone have a solution for me? It seems that it is not possible to install windows using an external DVD drive.

I am doing this after doing a full wipe of my hard drive and reinstalling lion.
Previously, I had lion, and made a partition using disk utility and booted from the disk (this time it was from my Mac's SuperDrive which was functioning perfectly at this point in time) and finished the installation completely fine. I then used the drivers that were in my Snow Leopard DVD (I have a Snow Leopard DVD from a previous Mac I purchased).
The only difference between then and now is that I am using an external DVD drive.

  • Can I install windows xp with lion OS or I should install windows 7?

I'm going to install Windows XP via bootcamp on my mac, but according to the guide I need  Windows 7.

Oh joy.  I just deleted my old bootcamp partition to re-create it and it wont do it.
I've been running Xp on a BC  partition for a few years on my 28"iMac  and it ran fine til recently.
I re-installed windows but was a bit flaky and I tried to restore an old copy that made it unbootable.
But now I am unable to re-create a bootcamp partition bevause I have updated to Lion.
Really wish I hadn't.   Seems sluggish, full screen is broken and now this.
So windows will have to wait until I can afford Windows7 just for a game, a simulator and a few apps
    for some RC Heli electrics.
Is there no way to get bootcamp to JUST create the partition?  I know XP works on his machine!!

  • Installing Windows 7 on Lion via Bootcamp, problems.

    Hello there,
After a while i finally decided to install Windows7 on a partition on my Macbook Pro.
I updated SL to Lion, dowloaded the Windows support software and putted it on a Extrenal HD.
But i have a problem: i don't have Windows7 on a CD, since Windows is often pre-installed on PC's these days.
Which means i don't have Windows7 on a CD, but i do have a legal product key for Windows7 (Found at sticker at the bottom of your PC).
So before i start the Bootcamp procedure i want to ask this:
If i download Windows7 from the internet, and put it on a CD.
And then use that CD to install windows, and when bootcamp asks for the product Key, i just use the one at the bottom of my PC.
    Will it then work?
I don't know if the ProductKey is unique, if so, i have a bigger problem.
Thanks for your time and help,
    Finn.

  • Can I install windows xp on Lion?

I have an xp disk, but my parents won't let me buy a new windows 7 disk. Does anyone know how to install windows xp onto my MacbookPro with lion software using boot camp?

All I can tell you is this: When I had Snow Leopard I installed WinXP on my iMac using BootCamp. I upgraded to Lion and XP still runs. Since the ability to boot into Windows is tied to the OS at a very low level, I doubt it is as simple as installing an older version of BootCamp in Lion.

  • How do I install windows XP on Lion

I want to install Window XP English Version to my Mac. I need to use this operating system to comunicate to my Air Condition System Manager

Have you looked into using Bootcamp to accomplish this?  I just loaded WIN 7 using it and it was flawless. You need to pay attention to the instructions in each window as you go and you should be good to go.  You will need a thumbdrive or a writable CD, and a lisenced version of XP, that's it.  Make sure you are using the most recent version of Bootcamp.  I did this on a late 2011 MBP 17.
    Hope this helps.
Ps there is a lot of help in these forums that can assist you in accomplising most anything,
    Good luck

  • Installing windows 7 osx Lion 10.7

    Hie,
I'm having trouble installing Windows 7 Pro on a MacBook Pro (Intel 2009). First steps works great to 94% of unpackaging Windows files....
Then nothing, it's locked at this step.
The iso file is working great, i can install Seven in VMware but not via Boot Camp....
    Any idea?
    Thanks a lot
    JC

Give a good reason why? because you tried and got an error message and don't understand it? because you don't have backup plan then you should take care of that.
The forum is littered with those that tried, some good knowledgable folks.
If your intent is to have 'extra' partitions, that can cause trouble and more complex.

  • Can't install windows seven on lion...

    Hi!
    Configuration is:
    macbook pro 15" 2011
    mac os Lion 10.7.2
    bootcamp is 4.0.1
My windows Seven licence is a MSDNAA licence with sp1 included ...
    I can't install it.
I define 30Gb partition for windows using bootcamp. It formats the partition then reboots and problem occurs at this step.
    On display, following message occurs:
"No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key"
I tried differents ways...through dvd or usb key but each time problem occurs...
Windows seven is an iso file downloaded from Ms website. Using bootcamp, I select the iso file and choose USB 2.0 flashdrive (4Gb) as target.
    any idea ?
    thanks in advance
    Nicolas

    ## Burn the iso to a dvd using Disk Utility, burn at the slowest speed
hi, thanks for your answer  and for your inputs about partition size.
btw at that time I can't install os.
before to burn again a dvd, what kind of file, bootcamp will manage as source file? operating system as an iso file ?  operating system boot disk ?
the first option of the bootcamp menu stipulates you have to provide an iso file (as source) and an usb key (as target). That's what I made. result was an usb key with OS distribution inside (files and directories and subdirectories.
I test it on a windows laptop. it works as bootable usb key .....
but not with bootcamp on my macbook Pro!!! After partitioning when bootcamp process reboots, the message is
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key
but yes it, it's bootable usb key !!!  it seems to me  it only checks dvd device but not usb key device.
if we do not use usb key but dvd, what kind of file bootcamp is waiting for ? iso file, bootable disk ??
    not clear for me ....
    Regards

  • Anyone know how to install windows 7 and Lion with more than 1 partition?

Hi guys, hope this is in the right place, it's my first post, I did search the forums but to be honest it's my first mac so half the time I don't understand what I'm reading.
Basically, what I would like is, a partition for mac os, a partition for windows 7 os and a shared partition using say FAT32 so I can use it to store Music, films and other things which will be accessable to both OS's.
However Bootcamp will only let me create 1 partition with Lion, so to bootcamp, it's bootcamp and a mac os partition or nothing.
so any help getting what I want would really be appreciated. I did find some similar articles about the subject but they were all aimed at snow leopard and vista and other windows OS's. I couldn't find one dealing with exactly what I have.
If anyone has the answer to this please remember i'm new to Macs, so please write your answer in a way I can understand.
    Thanks to anyone who helps.
I asked this question on macrumours, out of 500 views, not 1 answered

My profile: bookmarks - I added one of someone that did manage, it does take planning.
take a look and good luck, it is not supported or standard but can be done.
NTFS and HFS drivers to write back and forth may be easier and better though.
or 2nd hard drive - and use NTFS along with HFS driver as needed.

  • Need Optical Drive To Install Windows 7 With Lion?

The latest support article regarding Boot Camp 4.0 states that only Windows 7 can be used for new installs using OS X Lion. Further on, the article states a "compatible external optical drive" must also be used. They don't mention exactly what compatible means or the general requirements of the optical drive. I was thinking of purchasing a new Mac Mini but I would also need to have something more for Windows 7 to run. Who could I ask about this "compatible external optical drive"?

Windows on Mac is never going to be 100%, close, and for many, the hardware today 2011 is powerful enough to use VirtualBox and whatever guest OS.

  • Re-installing Window 7 on Lion

Recently had to erase my hard drive & re-install Win 7 from my thumb drive.  Pressing Option while booting, showed the Win. 7 drive, but would not boot saying "boot mgr missing", Control-option-delete but would not boot.  So erased win 7 partition to reinstall win 7 but get this msg.
The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved.
Back up the disk and use disk utility to format it as a single Mac OSX Extended (Journaled) volume.
Restore your information to the disk and try using bootcamp assistant again.
Is this telling me I have to completely erase Lion & then re-install it.  If that's so, seems like I will be back where I started
since I re-installed Lion from the thumbdrive anyway.  Would it have the same info that I now have (or did).
What did I miss or am I reading it wrong.
    Any help would be appreciated.

You should not find installing to be difficult, you will learn if you do it yourself and gain confidence.

  • Boot Camp won't install windows support software

I have a MacBook 2006 with 4 gb of memory and a 2.0 ghz core 2 duo processor. It has a 7200 RPM 750 GB HD with a single partition running a clean install of os x lion. I have been trying to install windows 7 since Lion came out. If I tell boot camp to download software, It is almost done when I get an error telling me that software can't be installed. If I choose not to download software, I try to partition my HD and I get another error that I can't remember because I haven't tried in a week. I will post pictures in a day or two, but until then, PLEASE HELP ME!!!

From what I've read the "Download Update" option as you install Lion only works for some MBAirs and it's a hit or miss on all others. (mostly a miss).
You might do a Search on the error you get as there are quite a few discussions on those problems.

  • How do I install Windows 8 on Mountain Lion (mac mini) 2010 Server using bootcamp with out Optical Drive?

I have a 2010 Mac Mini server running 10.8.4 (12E55).  I just bought a brand new copy of Windows 8 from micrsoft.  I have tried using boot camp and it will not recognize a burned DVD in my remote optical drive on my laptop running windows 7 or my macbook running Lion 10.7.5.   I have had Microsoft on both of my computers remoted in for about 8 hours and they tried just about everything that I've tried.
Microsofts tech support has made me a bootable DVD and a bootable Flash Drive through remote desktop (awsome good job microsoft tech support).  I have even tried formatting my mac mini's second 500GB hard drive to FAT32 using this whole disc as my windows partition.  I know that when I go to install windows 8 it is going to reformat the drive to NTFS but all the articles that I've found, say this is what you have to do to get the drive formatted properly to get the ball rolling and get windows will fix it when it goes to install by reformatting to NTFS.
Ok so right now I have my second 500GB hdd on my mac mini formatted to FAT32 and I have tried to reboot holding my option key like I do on my mac book.  If I want to boot to a different hdd on my macbook all I do is hold the OPTION key during start up and you get prompted to choose one of the bootable disc that is on your computer.  Well if I put my USB drive which is bootable on my macbook into my macbook and do this right now its not showing up.
Now I just put the DVD that they made me in my macbook and it shows up as bootable disc.  But the USB doesn't.  (1 hour later)  I just got microsft to remake the USB drive and am going to try that again so ta ta for now and I'll come back on to post to tell you if it works.

Parallels, Fusion, and VirtualBox are available from their respective sites. Read their installation instructions which explain how to install Windows.
