Installing Windows XP on Qosmio X305-Q701

Is it possible to install Windows XP on my Qosmio X305-Q701 without the need of a floppy drive etc?
I saw a few other topics about it.
However on different models, and my laptop does not have the option of putting my SATA drive in to compatibility mode.
Don't mind if i have to slipstream a few drivers, but I need to know if there are XP drivers available for it, for when i look on the drivers download page i can only find Vista drivers.
Any help is greatly appreciated
Kind regards,
Jorde Vorstenbosch
P.s. bought my laptop in the states, So it's the best buy version. (heard they only sold these at best buy, so that's why)

I managed to get Win Xp x64 installing right with almost all drivers in it.
I have upgraded to the 1.70 BIOS version and made a modified version of my Win XP Pro x64 using nLite in order to integrate both SATA and Atheros wireless drivers.
SATA and Chipset drivers are both found on Intel's web site.
Atheros wireless ones were a bit tricky to find, but I managed to do it searching over the net.
Bluetooth driver is the one form Toshiba.
HD audio drivers came from Realtek web site.
Almost all drivers I've got for Win XP 32 serve the x64 version as well.
I have bluetooth, wireless, high def audio and GeForce (laptopvideo2go) drivers installed.
And the best of it all: THE BATTERY PROBLEM HAS GONE USING THIS X64 VERSION OF WINDOWS XP!
Using the x64 version means that you got all 4 Gigs of RAM properly recognized.
I can put all drivers up in a single file and upload to rapidshare, for instance, for those who want them.

  • Qosmio X305-Q701 - Black Screen and sound loop while gaming

    Hi,
My Qosmio X305-Q701 has recently started crashing while playing any games. Never had a problem out of it until the past month. All games now from WoW and F.E.A.R. to solitare. It will just randomly go to a black screen and the last sound byte while loop over and over requiring a hard reboot.
Graphics card is Nvidia geforce 9700m gts series.
All drivers and directx is up to date running windows vista. I am not very tech savy so any help or expierence with this problem would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

I have the exacrt same issues, and have had them for some time. I tried all the software solutions, and mechanical solutions that I could perform myself ( cleaning the airflow vents, and cooling fan ) Nothing has worked. Sad thing is, no real solutions are ever given to this, so let me lay it down like this. The video card is a P.O.S. and is at fault. Only way to fix it is to replace it. Preferably with one equivelant, but from a different manufacturer. In all honesty, this is the worst computer I've ever owned. Even sadder is its the most expensive one I've ever bought. I've tried for help through the place I bought it ( Best Buy, which I am having my own difficulties dealing with ) and Toshiba support as well. No one has offered an explanation as to why this model isn't recalled, and or replaced because its a lemon. Good luck in getting it fixed. My own solution is to cut my losses, get a new computer ( which will never be a Toshiba again ) and chalk it up as lesson learned.

  • Can I install Windows XP on Qosmio G40

    Hello
I have one question. Can i install windows XP on Qosmio G40. Will it work?
On suport page have no drivers for windows xp.
    Thanks.

Why not?! You will be able to install the XP on Qosmio but possibly you will be not able to use some Qosmio features due to not available XP drivers.
If you need some common drivers like graphic driver, LAN driver, or WLan driver please use some from the chip manufacturer sites!

  • How-to: Installing Windows XP on Qosmio X300

Admins: please review this content, and make this topic sticky.
I decided to try out Windows XP on my Qosmio X300-130 laptop, that came with Windows Vista 32-bit pre-installed.
I bought XP Pro license + disc.
    Part A: Installation
    ===============
    1. Go to Intel website and download "Intel RST" drivers -- those are required to recognize the SATA disk. Unfortunately Qosmio X300 does not provide IDE emulation in it's BIOS.
    2. Download "nLite"
    3. Start "nLite" and choose option to slipstream the drivers, and choose to integrate Intel RST drivers, and create ISO. Burn the ISO on a CD-R.
    4. The new CD disc should be installable on our hardware
    Part B: Video
    ===========
Unfortunately, Toshiba modified GeForce used in the laptop, so standard NVIDIA drivers won't install on Windows. (they do install on Linux BTW)
PCI (and PCI express) code is made of several parts:
    -VENDOR ID (NVIDIA, main vendor)
-DEVICE ID (chip used, GeForce 9700 GTS in my case)
-SUB SYSTEM ID (Toshiba, secondary vendor)
After you installed fresh XP, go to device manager, and see devices under yellow question mark. (devices that Windows can't recognize)
Click on VGA (it is our GeForce) --> Details --> Device instance ID.
You need to search original NVIDIA driver for your DEVICE ID (that is, so it matches the chip in your laptop exactly, DEV_062A for me).
I had to change one single file from original NVIDIA driver:
    nvts.inf
    %NVIDIA_DEV.062A.01% = Section004, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_062A&SUBSYS_00011179
    -->
    %NVIDIA_DEV.062A.01% = Section004, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_062A&SUBSYS_FF011179
    Part C: Network & Audio
    ===================
    You need few drivers:
    -Intel WiFi 5100 drivers
    -Realtek PCI-E Gigabit drivers
    -Realtek HD Audio drivers
    -Technologov, 19.01.2011

    Very nice posting!
Thanks dude for this! I think it could be interesting for others!

  • Re: I can't install Windows 7 on Qosmio Q30

    Hi!
As I say, I have problem with installation WIN 7 on Q30. When I come to step to select on which HDD I want to install WIN 7, I don't see my HDD!!!

    Hello Toci
Obviously you need SATA driver. Which Qosmio G30 do you have exactly (G30-xxx)?
Maybe you will be able to install Win7 but problem is that this old Qosmio notebook is not Win7 supported and you will not be able to find all necessary drivers, tools and utilities.

  • Several issues with Qosmio x305-q701

So my laptop was running great and all that and it was running like a dream. Then it turned into a nightmare. I dont know what it is but it started when the CD drive would not open for anything.
I tried everything from pushing the button like 4534958345 times, then I tried right clicking and ejecting and that didnt work, I tried everything from force restart to regular restart, and then I finally manually opened it with the manual open on the CD drive. Then it was working fine from there.
So then like 2 days later, every time I play a game like call of duty to like Stronghold 2 it will lag after about 5 minutes and I dont know what it is. The only games that dont im guessing is Warhammer online or World of Warcraft because they are straight on my hard drive. I erased a bunch of programs that I have never seen before, etc etc system restore and defragment, disk cleanup all that stuff, and it still is not happening at all.
now, Im guessing that its something to do with the CD drive itself but the thing is I had problems with the CD drive before and I called tech support and there was a file I looked up in the search bar and I had to delete 2 files. When I did that it magically worked again. Now Im in Iraq though so my internet is limited and I cant call 1800 numbers from here which is so annoying. Can someone please help me its very important?
Also when I hit the function key it used to have a drop down menu from the top. idk what happened but that isnt happening anymore I think that has something to do with it. Is there a link where I can talk directly to Toshiba or can someone please help me fix this problem?

    Hello
You have bombarded us with questions and different issues and it is not easy to make a choice and start with some concrete issue. To be honest, who knows what you have done with your notebook last days and how to offer some magic solution.
In my opinion you should make clean operating system installation and see how it works with factory setting. I am pretty sure the Toshiba will say the same. Probably you have installed so many different stuff and nobody here will be able to say for sure what to do.
I recommend you to make clean OS installation, optimize it and start to install your favorite games.
I am also sure the optical drive will work well again.

  • HDMI output not working on Qosmio x305-Q701

My laptop stopped putting sound out through the HDMI port even though it shows as if it were playing sound;  none of my TVs which used to output my PC's sound do.
Do remedy this I tried reinstalling drivers, which didn't work; I even ended up reinstalling my operating system, which also didn't work.
    Can someone please help me?

Sorry if there's an edit button, I couldn't find it.
But to clarify, the picture itself is working fine through HDMI, but the SOUND isn't.

  • Qosmio G20 Vista drivers? Not needed to install Windows Vista

    Hello,
I am new at this forum. My name is Francisco and I live in Brazil. I own a Toshiba Qosmio g20_105 and it is running Windows Vista Ultimate EN RTM 6000 without problems.
To do this, you must perform a fresh install of Windows Vista. The drivers for network (Intel PRO100),for audio (Soundmax), for TV (Toshiba PCI Tuner), modem (toshiba modem), Alps pointing device are installed directly from microsoft. You must install Toshiba nvidia display driver, Toshiba Bluetooth (monitor and stack), Toshiba texas flash media driver, toshiba RAID (driver and utilities), toshiba remote control manager and ConfigFree for Windows Vista.
You must have the Toshiba RAID drivers to install from the windows Vista DVD. Otherway, Windows does not recognize Toshiba RAID 0 and RAID 1.
Below some pictures of my G20 Desktop screen:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen1.jpg
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen2.jpg
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen3.jpg
And here is an example of using deskscapes animated backgrounds with Windows Vista, called dreamscene.
    It is in paused mode
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen4.jpg
To perform a fresh install of windows Vista:
Please, download the Toshiba RAID drivers from here:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/raid.rar
    1. Copy the contents of this archive onto a floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive.
    2. Insert your Microsoft Windows Vista Edition Bootable DVD.
    3. Power on your computer and press F12 to display the boot menu.
    4. Choose the option to boot from the CD/DVD drive.
    5. On the first setup screen, choose your language options then press "Next".
    6. Press "Install Now".
    7. Type in your Product Key then press "Next".
    8. Accept the license terms by checking the box then press "Next".
    9. When asked "What type of installation do you want", press "Custom (advanced)".
    10. When asked "Where do you want to install Windows", make sure your media containing the Toshiba RAID drivers is connected to the computer, then click on "Load Driver".
    11. Browse to the location you have copied the RAID drivers to then press "OK".
    12. Setup will return to the previous screen, but it will show that you have selected the TOSHIBA RAID driver.
    13. Make sure the TOSHIBA RAID driver is selected then press "Next".
    14. Continue the installation of Windows Vista as normal.
Now you will need the Toshiba drivers for your Qosmio G20:
    See the Device manager info:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmiodrivers1.jpg
    Drivers:
    1. SD memory controller
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/SD_memory.rar
    2. Bluetooth monitor and stack
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/bluetooth_mon.rar
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/bluetooth_stack.rar
    3. Nvidia display driver GeForce Go 6600
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/nvidia97.52.rar
    4. Texas FlashMedia controller
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/flasmedia.rar
    And finally the Toshiba utilities:
    Toshiba Configfree
    Toshiba Assist
    RAID utilities
    Remote control manager
    Toshiba SD Memory utilities
    That's it...
So I must tell to you that Toshiba Qosmio G20 is Windows Vista Ultimate capable, indeed.
Hope this helps people who need and want to install Windows Vista Aero on their Qosmio G20 machines.

    6. Reboot your machine and follow with the steps below.
    DRIVERS YOU MUST INSTALL:
    1. Alps pointing device driver (This is from Alps and working fine with your Qosmio G20)
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/alpsdriver.rar
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmioalps.jpg
During the installation, Windows will complain that you are installing an early device driver. Do not attempt to this, Install it anyway.
This is because the Windows driver for this device is originally installed with a more recent date and version from that you are trying to install.
But the driver posting here is the correct from the Alps for your Qosmio g20.

To install the nvidia 97.52, you must do it manually:
    open the Device manager
look for the Video adapter/nvidia Gforce go6600
    Driver update options
Look for a driver in computer
Choose a list of device drivers in computer
    With disc...
Lool for the place you've extracted the nvidia 97.52.rar
Find the nvts.inf and open it
You will come to the following screen:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmionvidiainstall.jpg
From a list choose your video card (go6600) and install it.
If you think it is difficult, please see the VIDEO Nvidiainstall.avi:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/nvidiainstall.rar
After the extraction, play it with Windows media Player
    4. Texas FlashMedia controller
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/flasmedia.rar
5.SoundMAX integrated digital audio. Driver 5.12.1.5410
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/soundmax5.12.1.5410.rar
run the setup.exe and at first remove the driver you have installed on your Qosmio G20.
    reboot the computer
Run the setup.exe again and install the new driver. At some install point, Windows Vista will need a confirmation, if you trust Analog devices incorporated to goes on..
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmiosoundmaxinstall.jpg
Continue with the installation and after finishing the process, test the functionallity of the new driver
    OR
If your G20 model is using the Sigmatel HD audio chipset, so you must install other driver than the Soundmax integrated digital audio
It is the SigmaTel HD Audio Driver for Windows Vista Version: 6.10.0.5324

  • How to install Windows XP 64bit on my Qosmio G30-219

Problem.....how to install windows xp 64 on my qosmio G30-219? seems that Toshiba doesn't support it! Or have i missed something?
    Help please!!!!

Of course you can install it on the Qosmio G30.
The problem is that you will not find any Toshiba 64bit XP drivers on the Toshiba driver page!!!
    Why???
Well, Im not sure why but I presume the Toshiba notebooks were not delivered with 64bit OS and therefore 64bit drivers dont exists.
I assume you cannot install the 64bit XP on the Qosmio because you have not included an RAID driver!!! Am I right?
The RAID driver is need and important to recognize the HDD!!!
You can include it pressing F6 during the windows setup installation procedure
    So its one little hint!

  • Problem installing windows 7 on a Qosmio X875.

I just got a new Toshiba Qosmio laptop X875 with the virus known as Windows 8 installed on it.  I want to install Windows 7 Ultimate on it.
I have already set the boot order to dvd drive first, but it refuses to see the dvd in the drive.  The disc is known to be good, so it is not the disc.
I also want to use my Intel SSD drive in it too.
Has anyone installed Windows 7 on their X875?
Is there some trick that I am missing?

Being super active is never a requirement

    Here are the procedures.
Before you begin, make sure there are adequate Windows 7 drivers and utilities for your model.
Windows 8 Pro comes with downgrade rights (to Windows 7 Professional). Otherwise, you will need to pay for activation.
In order to boot using UEFI from the Windows 7 installation media, follow this procedure.
-Shut down Windows 8 while pressing the Shift key to completely power off.
-Power on and press F2 while the Toshiba logo is displayed to enter the UEFI Setup Menu.
-Go to the Security tab and set the "Secure Boot" setting to "Disabled".
-Go to the Advanced tab, enter "System Configuration" and set the Boot Mode to "CSM Boot."
-Press F10 to save and exit.
In order to successfully install Windows 7, you need to remove the existing GPT partitions during Setup and create new (MBR) partitions.

  • Re: Qosmio F20-137 - After I installed Windows 7 I got no sound

I have Installed Windows 7 on my Qosmio F20 and all drivers were installed by windows update after I connected to Internet.
I can play musik and videon files in Windows Media player but there is no sound in the inbuilt speakers or if I connect headphones.
If I look on the driver for the sound in devicemanager it says everything is OK. Does anyone know what the problem is?
I have also reinstalled Windows 7 but still same problem.
    Regards,
    Henrik

    > I remeber that I muted/disabled the sound in Windows XP before I isntalled Windows 7
    This could be a problem!
I think you would need to install the Win XP and would need enable the sound again (unmute). After that you could install the Win 7 again.
I found also this Toshiba document:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB7C021B0001R01.htm
Maybe it will work for you if not follow the advice above.

  • Qosmio G30-204 - Should I install Windows 7 32bit or 64bit?

    Hi folks,
I have a Qosmio G30-204. I've upgraded the RAM to 4GB. It has Windows Vista 32bit currently installed.
I'm planning on installing windows 7.
Can I install Windows 7 64bit or would it have to be the 32bit?
What is the difference between 32bit and 64bit anyway?

    Hi
If you have upgraded the notebook to 4GB RAM you should install Windows 7 64bit. On all 32bit OS you can only use ~3.2GB due the 32bit limitation.
Thats also the difference between 32bit and 64bit, the supported RAM size. ;)

  • Qosmio X505-898 about install windows 7 in solid state drive

I've just bought X505-898 recently, and it came with SSD. My friends suggest me installing windows 7 in the SSD, but I'm not good at this part. Could anyone give me a clear instruction to help me?

This special buttons control is controlled by different Toshiba tools and utilities, so after clean OS installation you must download and install all necessary drivers and Toshiba specific stuff.
All this you can find HERE .
By the way: have you created or get Toshiba recovery installation DVD (recovery disc)?

  • Qosmio X305 will only boot in safe mode or when the graphics card disabled

    Hi All
I am having a very concerning issue with my laptop (Toshiba Qosmio X305). It will only boot in safe mode or if I disable the graphics card.
Awhile back I upgraded the drivers for the nVidia 9800M GTX from the nVidia website, it worked fine for awhile, but then it started crashing randomly by giving me a full screen of random color then switching off. I fixed this by rolling back to the previous version of the drivers (the drivers that came with the laptop software).
After that it working perfectly for months but yesterday my machine started crashing and I could not get it to boot correctly.
I have completely deleted (not just a quick format) both the hard drives that came internally in the laptop and I have installed a clean version (the out of the box option) of the x64 Vista that came with the laptop from the recovery disks I created. After I did the install, it boots fine as only the standard VGA device is used, as soon as I installed the driver off the drivers and applications disk it would not boot correctly:
Just after the status bar comes up and it is about to show the windows logo, just before login, I get a black screen. I can hear that it is booting fine and I can even log in to windows and by memory make things run, but I can't see anything. I then got the latest drivers, again from the nVidia website and they are not helping at all.
My system is as follows (nothing has been added, its is just how I got it):
    Vista Ultimate x64
    4.00 GB RAM
    Intel Core 2 Quad
Like I said previously it is a clean install of the operating system, I have not added any programs, except for installing and then updating the display drivers.
Any help would be much appreciated!

    Hi buddy,
It seems that this is a typical example, that only pretested display drivers from Toshiba should be used. Why?
The nVidia drivers are not pretested and they dont have an overheat protection. So for me it sounds like that the nVidia driver has destroyed your graphic card. That means no driver will help you and reinstallation of the whole system too.
I think the only option is replacing the graphic card. Therefore you should contact an authorized service provider in your country. Here you can search:

Explain the whole story and then you will see, what the technicians say. If your notebook is under warranty, hopefully this will be covered too. Normally other display drivers you have to install on your own risk
    Good luck! :)

  • Qosmio X305-708 - Solved: Media Buttons not working after BIOS update

I had this problem so I thought I would share in case anyone else encountered the same problem.
Basically after installing BIOS 1.70 (in Windows 7 64bit) on my Qosmio X305-708, the media buttons remains on partially, as in they were dim, and they didn't work at all. The light even remained on when the computer was off (strangely only when plugged in). To solve this problem I reinstalled the BIOS through a boot disk (USB key), since then its been fine. Must of been a corrupt install I suppose.

    Hi mate,
Wow, thats really good work! :)
Im pretty sure that this would be interesting and very useful for other Qosmio X305-708 owner!!!
